In my opinion - No. If you read the fine print in the manual, it should state that maintenance at 3750 miles is recommended if you do mainly stop-and-go driving or in dusty conditions. Otherwise, you can change the oil every 7500 miles. If you break-down the costs of the 7500 mile maintenance (and other recommended maintenance plans), you will see that you are paying a lot of money for services that you do not need at every oil change. I would save your money and just pay for regular oil changes and then maybe every second or third time, paying for the regular maintenance.

I am going to buy either the Goodyear LS for $160 or the Cooper (not sure which one) for $148. These are for the rear (235/50/17). Just don't know which is the better tire. I have a feeling the goodyear is better than the cooper.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
The Cooper Lifeliner SLE is a much better value at $108.00. If you want one more option, the Avon Tech M550 A/S tire is a really good choice, but is only available from Tire Rack.

I will be replacing my 05X Goodyear RSA's with the Cooper or the Avon when it is time!! I don't believe the Goodyear is necessarily the better tire. I have had some experience with the Cooper on a Chrysler LHS. Nice riding and handling tire, with very good wear characteristics.
  • area123area123 Member Posts: 22
Those are really the only two the tire place can get, I'll check around though. I'm pretty sure the cooper's they quoted me were the lifeliner, but the $148 includes installation and tax, etc. I don't think I can really order the tires because I don't think I would able to fit two of them in my trunk to get them installed.

If I can order from tirerack I like the Kumho ECSTA ASX, they get good ratings and are $111. I didn't see the cooper on their site though.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
Tire rack sells the Avon's not the Cooper's. Cooper you have to buy from a local re-seller like Discount Tire etc. Tire Rack will have an arrangement with a local tire store. They will ship your order there and you can paythem for installation.

What is the recommended tire pressure for 2003 G35? There is no sticker on the door and my owner's manual is telling me to go by the max. pressure requirement on the tires itself..that can't be right...
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
I don't know about the 03, but my 05 X asks for 30/30 F/R. I prefer 34/34. Crisper handling and should be a slight mileage gain. No difference to my butt on smoothness.

i turned it off as soon as i got the car home from the dealer -- 2005 coupe 6mt. i also reprogrammed the key fob so the horn didn't beep when i shut down. who needs that light if you know how to drive a stick. it's for morons.

These are the new touchless car wash where you drive thru and there are various sprays. No brushes or touching of any kind. Anyone know of one in the Los Angeles area?

Has anyone found a way to get rid of scratches on the black door "sills" (the easily scratched black plastic along the bottom of the sides, front and back on sedans)? I'm prepping to sell my 2004 G35x and the scratches on these sills are bugging me! :-)

    Thanks. gil20
  • guest123guest123 Member Posts: 27
is this on the aluminium strip? If it is, the aluminium strip usually has a very thin plastic film on it and may still have it. look carefully, maybe your car still has it. if you try to peel off from the edge of the sill, you may be able to find a very thin plastic sheet sticking to the aluminium. The strips can be replaced.
I know you can get the skyline strips. maybe you can also get the Infiniti strips. If you do, please post here and let us know.

it's not even three months and I already have a small but noticable paint chip on the hood. it's not so much a chip that it is a deep small scratch. However,
it has reached deep. Deep enough for scratch removers to not work.
Is there a way to fill this up with some kind of protective coating so water doesnt
get inside and start peeling/rusting around this scratch (crack in the paint)?

Anybody try using a fuel additive?

In my previous car, I used 104+ to amp the octane in my gas a bit. It had a noticeable impact on the responsiveness of the car. Any experiences with these here? Any reason to think it wouldn't be safe to use?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to Edmunds.com Forums!

It would be most appreciated if you did not use all capital letters. It is very difficult to read and appears as though you are SHOUTING.

    Thanks for your cooperation!

My 2005 6 speed sedan has a door sticker that recommends 33 pounds all around. I run it at 35 pounds, which provides a firmer (harsher to some) ride and slightly improves fuel economy. When I autocross my car I use 40 pounds per wheel to reduce sidewall flex during hard cornering. I bring the pressure back down to 35 pounds right after the event.
Remember to check your tires when they are cold. If the pressure is low and you drive the car first, the sidewalls will flex more, creating heat and raising the pressure. You will then get a higher pressure reading, but not one you want. The higher temperature will cause the tires to wear faster.
Also, remember that tire pressure goes up one pound for every 10 degrees of ambient temperature rise, so check your tire pressure often as the winter approaches. If your tires were at 33 pounds when it was 75 degrees out, they will be at 28 pounds when it is 25 degrees out.

Hello everyone. I have 2005 6mt g35 coupe. according to manual the oil has to be changed 3 months or 3750 miles. My car has 1500 miles but it is almost 6 months i bought it. What do yo recommend? Change now or at 3750 miles?
    Thanks
  • jayellesevenjayelleseven Member Posts: 150
Man I envy your low low milage.. I got 4k at my 6months. Change it once you reach 3000 or more miles. I had the same concern and my friends dad is a mechanic, said time does not matter unless you don't use the car for weeks on end (since the oil is jus sitting) They jus want 2 get you in for more mainenace but you do not need it, the needed maintence comes from usage of the vehicle and obviously yours is till clean cut and new.

Just bought a 2005 G35 sedan, RWD, A/T but it came without splash guards. I would like to get splash guards to protect the paint. Does anyone know if these are easy to self-install. the Infiniti web site claims that splash guards have "no drill" install. I would appreciate any info from someone who has installed these.

I have a 03 Sedan Premium/Areo, with 30,000 km (18,000 miles) I am getting ready to sell. I just picked up a 05 x used with 395 km (240 miles!) Thought about something different on the 05 but for the money I did not find what I was looking for. Live in Canada & definetly wanted AWD.

What is the recommended tire pressure for 2003 G35

30 - 33 lbs, depending on model - tires) it is on the sticker inside driver's door.

Has anyone found a way to get rid of scratches on the black door "sills"

If it is the alunimum then there is a film, peel it & apply a new one such as 3 M (easy to do your self). If it is the plastic, use black shoe polish.

I already have a small but noticable paint chip on the hood. it's not so much a chip that it is a deep small scratch. However, it has reached deep. Deep enough for scratch removers to not work.
Is there a way to fill this up with some kind of protective coating so water doesnt get inside and start peeling/rusting around this scratch (crack in the paint)?

Touch up paint to color match & fill, just dab it a& let it fill the hole.

Has anyone used Wheel Wax on their wheels in order to alleviate the brake dust problem?

Any wax helps, I use car wax. The problem is far less on the 05's.

In my previous car, I used 104+ to amp the octane in my gas a bit. It had a noticeable impact on the responsiveness of the car. Any experiences with these here? Any reason to think it wouldn't be safe to use?

Might void your warranty, there is something in the manual about not adding any engine additives including fuel injector cleaner.

HI! I REALLY WANT TO WORK ON MY NEW G35 BUT I'M LITTLE WORRY ABOUT WARRANT.IF I DO THE ALL THE WORK MY SELF (OIL CHANGE ,15.30.45K SERVICE) WHAT I HAVE TO DO AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

Keep all your reciepts along with a log indicating the date, & mileage, as long as you used the right oil & filter no problem.

Easy to install, you have to drill 1 hole on each side. You order them color coded, they are not usually a regular item. On e-bay I have seen them in the US for $80.00. My dealer sold them to me for $200.00 for four. I also put a piece of 3 M along the bottom of the side behind the splash guards on the front.

Hope that helped a couple people. :)

Your brake dust problem is the brake pads wearing away. If they fix the brake pad issue thent you won't have brake dust on your front wheels.
  • joeshanjoeshan Member Posts: 70
    Thanks, folks.
Just two weeks ago, I was at the dealer (Pepe) for service and asked one service consultant about solutions to brake wear problems. He gave me some song and dance about how they now have to use semi-metallic pads because of the asbestos problems of old pads and they have no solution to the dust problem.
Last week I had to go back and spoke to another consultant in casual conversation regarding brakewear, as I had to have pads & rotors replaced (warranty)at 7K mi. He said that (NY)city driving eats pads and that the rotors are too thin (to save unsprung weight) to cut. He also said that Infiniti will replace them free up to 3Y/36K, then they're on me. Additionally, I asked about using different pads to alleviate the brake dust, and he suggested caution be used in choosing alternative pads because they might have a "cheese-grater" effect on stock rotors.
Back in the '80s, my then mechanic said that this was a big problem with the European cars of that time.
PS: snowy Apple yesterday and I noticed a little intermittent sort of burning smell on the way to work. I thought that it may be from the brakes because of the VDC so I turned VDC off and smell went away. Just a little slippin' and slidin' with my 14k (7/32) RS-A's.

Hi everyone, i recently bought used 2004 G35 sedan from BMW dealer when it had 15200 miles on it, now i have 16200. i was thinking of getting 15000 schedule maintenance. the quote i got from dealer is $ 590 plus tax, i have certain question which i think experienced user out there can answer and help me out...
    1. is it really necessary to get 15000 service or i can just have oil changed from dealer and inspect all the fluid levels myself.

    2. if i dont get it, will it void my warranty.

    3. if i have to go for the 15000 service, which one should i pick, premium maintenance, schedule 1 or schedule2.

    thanks for the reponse :)

Any recommendations on products that protect/condition the leather. Have a G35x. Have heard good things about Zaino, Lexol, and Leatherique. Just wondering what others are using.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
I think you should change it after 6 months. I change mine every 4 months because I only put about 3200 miles/4 months.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
"schedule maintenance" is a wast of money. What they do is just check this and that. I owned several new cars in the past 10 years or so, Camry, Avalon, Altima and I never done those schedule maintenance. I did not have any warranty issues when I need to fix something.

This is my first Infiniti and I plan to do the same.

    Hi guys,

Anyoen have the wheel lock accessory that Infiniti sells? Specifically the for the G35 Coupe. Are they built to offer more security for Rims/Wheels? Seems like a good buy for 30 bucks. Thanks.

I just bought a New 2005 G35 Coupe Sand color.
thinking of Waxing the car at a detail center.
Any Pros or Cons of waxing a new car.
    How long it last.

What price range should I be looking at.

Last time I wax/leather treatment my new maxima at the dealer cost me $500. Certainly I dont want to go that route.

On 11-21-05, my brake pads were changed at 8801 miles and the rotors were resurfaced at my expense at Pepe Infiniti. The service consultant said it was my driving habits.
Looks like they owe me a refund. Have to get working on that this week.
    Thanks for the info.

Hi, all. My mother-in-law has the basic 2003 sedan and is constantly worried about whether her tire-pressure is low. I came across a really cool monitoring system at Pep Boys (individual monitors screw onto your air valves and change from green to red as your tire pressure drops), but I need to buy the appropriate set for her pressure-range.

I want it to be a surprise, so I can't just ask her what her pressure is, and b/c she's obsessive-compulsively afraid of losing her keys, I can't get ahold of them while she's visiting to sneak a peak at the doorjam.

Anyone tempted to tell me to review the board, please know that I've checked it, but got confused by the posters who discussed keeping at a pressure in excess of the recommended - I just want to kow the recommended pressure. Thanks.

I have had my 2005 g35coupe for a little over 3 months and for as long as i can remember their has been a pinging/ Crakling noise coming from under the car when i shut the car off after parking. I just disregarded it until today when i read that there was a similar problem with the new M-Class. This isnt normal is it?? Does anyone else experience it, should it be fixed. Thanks.

The dashboard plastic scratches very easy. My key slipped
and scratched the area near the ignition key. The scratch is not deep but it shows up as a white line. Is there something that can remove this scratch?

I had a similar problem with my TL. It took 2 or 3 coats of Armor All (or a similar product) - wipe it down one; let dry; wipe it again, but it got back to black.

The dealer tells me I have to use there oil filter's and suggest I buy them from them and get receipts from whoever changes the oil.(dealer is 100 mi. away)I always liked NAPA gold filters made by WINN.They have excellent media. understand I may need proof of maintiance. Anyone use filters other than Infinti? :confuse:

Just bought a 2006 Laser Red G35 Coupe, I have 2600 miles on it and purchased it on January 3, 2006. Within a month of having the vehicle I had over 75 rock chips on the hood of the vehicle, Grubbs Infiniti in Euless told me that this is "normal wear and tear". Well, we had ice on Saturday February 18th and while driving in the left hand lane of traffic with all of the sand on the road and after being out for about 30 miles of driving, I have ended up with over a thousand (that is being generous) rock chips on the passenger side of my car, that isnt including what the hood looks like now. I am going round and round with Infiniti on this issue and trying to make them be responsible for this crappy paint job. I have contacted a lawyer, called the BBB Auto Line any other suggestions or anyone else have a problem with the paint on their vehicle ?
  • guest123guest123 Member Posts: 27
I hit a post and got a whole lot of scratches in the paint on the side of my G35. There are no dents but it looks like the scratches are deep into the clearcoat. They are along the height of the car.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to fix this? Should I go to a body shop or can the infiniti dealers fix it?
I want to fix it while the car is still new so the paint match is easy.

I just took delivery of a new 06 G35 Coupe with 6MT with the aero package. Real nice car but when I drove it home from the dealer, is can feel every bump and even parts of the road. It has the 19in rims and those poor Bridgestone Potenzas on it.

Is the car suppose to ride like that ? My 2002 Nissan Maxima SE drives much smoother to me.

And I also noticed that the car while driving had a burnt oil smell, as if it had to much oil in the engine.

Has anyone else experienced this ? or the ride ?
  • raizelgsraizelgs Member Posts: 84
I have a 2005 Auto Coupe with the sport tuned suspension. Same tires and wheels as yours. Same suspension. Yes it is very rough riding, but you do get used to it. The upside is that the handling is great.

If you live in the snowbelt, be prepared to buy a new set of wheels and snow tires for the winter months. The Potenzas are terrible in the snow/ice, and it is next to impossible to find 19" snow tires to fit.

Hi, I need your help. I have '03 G35 4D and finally drove more than 36,000miles-no more free brakes. I want to try some aftermarket brakes (pads and rotors) which would make less dust and last LONGER but hopefully wouldn't compromise the braking performance. I welcome all suggestions and especially past experience. Thanks in advance. :confuse:

you need to have a clear bra installed when ever you do get your car fixed. I have them on my front and rear bumpers!! They work great! I live in Brooklyn NY where we parallel park and my bumpers are hit all the time. There are no marks on my bumpers!!

I,too, have a 2006 Laser Red G35 coupe, purchased Jan. 6 from Grubbs Infiniti in Euless, TX. It currently has 5,500 miles on it and the front end looks like it's been sandblasted (despite the fact that I've touched up at least a hundred chips since we got the car). I went by the dealer today & the service mgr. told me it was a problem with the red cars because they have gray primer which shows more when there's a chip. Also the front is lower. I countered that my son's 2000 Corvette, which has been lowered, has 70,000 and looks nowhere near as bad as the G35. His solution was that I should touch up all the chips and have the clear bra installed. I agree with cam1586 - the paint job is crap, totally unacceptable on a car of this type. I'd be more than happy to lend my voice, name, etc to any proceedings.
  • vinvipervinviper Member Posts: 11
Do dealers do touch up? Need it done on my bumper...someone hit me with their license plate. Nothing major though... Do they do a good job?

Sorry to hear of all these paint chip problems. I got the 06 Coupe in Diamond Graphite. Have a small scrath on the hood but thats about it. Probably from a truck. I am keepin an eye out on it though with all these posts.
