Do not buy the Pilot 2011 under any circumstances. I bought one in October and it has been nothing but trouble. It has been out of service for over 17 days. The car has a bad Torque converter. Remember the Acura MDX. Same with this car. Vibration at 1500 rpm at 35 MHP steady state driving. When the torqeu converter kicks in you get a bad vibration.
Been in twice: Dealer felt it and reported it. Honda Engineers say it is "as designed". I called Honda and spoke with the Legendary Customer service and they did the following things:
1. Acknowledged that there was a vibration 2. Stated it was acting as designed 3. Stated they did not know the cause (Getting the picture) 4. Since they did not know what it is they would do nothing but it was as designed. 5. Refused to provide in writing that it was acting as designed 6. Refused to provide an extension of the transmission warranty 7. Refused to allow any contact with anyone in design to certify that it was per design 8. Acknowledged both that they had multiple other complaints with some cars 9. Acknowledged that I had also driven others without the vibration. 10. Refused to provide a copy of the case file and their notes on my complaint 11. Refused to provide any engineering specs on the car to show it was as designed. 12. Would not allow me to speak with anyone other than the "guy on the phone" Chris 13. Would not consent to the phone conversation to be recorded as later proof when this tranny went the way of my Acura that they know of the problem.
I thought I'd pay it forward as this site has been a great pricing resource for me through the years. I just bought a 2011 EX-L w/RES (silver with black leather).
It is worth noting that the dealer would have gone much lower with the current inventory, but we had our heart set on the silver w/black interior. As it was the dealership had to work out a deal with another dealership to get what we wanted.
Here's the breakdown:
MSRP: $37,975 We negotiated $36,200 plus the following accessories for "free": Chrome side steps $700 Rubber floor mats (essential accessory if you live in the North East) $400 Crossbars for roof racks: $200 Ski Attachements: $170
So essentially we got the $37,975 MSRP for $36200 + about $1400 worth of accessories.
Not the best deal on this board, but the imporatant thing is we're happy and we got the exact color combo that we wanted. Had we gone with "dealer inventory" I'm pretty confident we could have gone another $700-$1000 off without too much "negotiating".
Bought at Charlie's Honda in Augusta! Very friendly and knowledgable sales staff (seems like the other Honda dealers we went to it was our salesman's first day).
I am about to ready buy a new SUV, and my target car is 2011 Honda Pilot. Does anyone knows what the fair price or the best price you paid for the 2011 Pilot in Orlando or Central Florida area?
We just bought a 2011 Pilot EX-L for 30,400. Most dealers stayed around 31,000 but Coggin Honda in Deland helped us out. Be sure to get it in writing and bring it to another dealer! There are plenty around Central, Fl.
Whats the best OTD price for a 2011 pilot EX 4WD in the central NJ area? Best quote so far has been 28,689 + dest + taxes/reg etc., but I feel this is way too much. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Is that your OTD price for EX-L Pilot 2011? I just received a quote for $34,914.15 OTD for 4WD EX-L 2011 and I'm not sure if it's a best deal. I hope to hear from anyone of you guys and thanks.
First I would like to thank everyone on the forum for the advice on the prices paid. Actually this forum led me to the best deal I could have gotten. The mention of a Dealer in Dayton Ohio (Matt Castrucci Honda) on another post intrigued me to search them out and see what they could offer.
So here are the details: 2011 Honda Pilot 4WD Touring Edition MSRP: $41,175 Invoice: $36,577 (source: Edmunds) Selling Price: $35,476.81 Sales Tax: $2,392.36 (6.75%) Total Price: $37,869.17
Also took advantage of the 1.9% interest from Honda too!
First I would like to thank everyone on the forum for the advice on the prices paid. I got mine from Prime Honda, Boston MA
So here are the details: 2011 Honda Pilot 4WD Touring Edition
MSRP: $41,175 Invoice: $36,577 (source: Edmunds) Selling Price: 36,500 (Paid $32000 $36,500 - $4,500 Trade-in) with Remote start Sales Tax: $2,000 (6.25%) Total Price: $38,500 with aftermarket remote start installed and full tank of gas + one free oil change.
Also took advantage of the 1.9% interest from Honda too for 60 months.
We received a quote of $35,850 + tax/title for a 2011 Touring? Does this seem like a fair deal? Also, how much luck has anyone had with countering or requesting an additional amount off on an internet quote? Thanks!
For an LX, with no options, I have been quoted $25,450, $25,415, and $25,350. These are about $1,000-$1,100 under Edmunds' TMV and $3,400 under MSRP.
For an EX, with no options, I have been quoted $28,175, $28,025, and $27,900. These are about $1,100-$1,200 under Edmunds' TMV and $3,700-$3,800 under MSRP.
These quotes are also under what Edmunds says are the invoice prices.
I'm wondering: is there a non-advertised Honda rebate dealer's are getting right now to be offering these seemingly low prices under invoice? If so, anybody know how long it would last? (Perhaps Pilots aren't selling well?)
Just drove home with our Pilot EXL with RES - 33325 (incl dest) + TTL. Longest negotiation I ever had - Ended up with Edmunds on the internet with the salesman to close the deal.
Wow... I wish that I had seen this a couple days ago...
I just bought our Pilot Touring for $35,799 + tax from Atamian Honda in Tewksbury, MA.
I still feel that it was a good deal. We ended up using the zag site from American Express as well Edmunds to get quotes from the local dealers. Then I negotiated down with 5 dealers to get to the lowest cost possible - just walk in and sign, no stress... We also bought the 8 year / 120K mile Honda coverage for $1485 based on a internet quote that the "finance manager" at the dealer matched...
All, I am looking for EX-L model and wanted to know what you all think should be OTD price for EX-L 2WD. The lowest OTD quote (with 7% tax )I got so far is 31,900. Please let me your thoughts if you think its a good price or not.
I am currently looking for an EX-L as well. The best quote I have gotten is $31,299 + TTL. I thought that was pretty good, but I am not sure now after seeing your $31900 OTD.
If you are in Georgia, can you share the dealership name? I might want to check with them before I purchase. Thanks!
I am in the beginning stages of shopping around for a new 2011 Touring Pilot w/ navigation and dvd (which I hear are standard), and wanted to find out what the best offering price would be. I live in CT, and we have a 6% sales tax. I see in some of these posts that are coming from jersey and mass, that some people are getting pilots (touring 4wd) around 36k or 36,500. Is this a deal? Where should I start my negotiations? I would like to end up adding running boards, a cargo mat, remote car start and honda care. Is it realistic to think I can get this all for 39k?
Look at the Weymouth Honda pricing that's posted on here many times; you should set that price as a maximum that you'd pay.
Feel free to start your negotiations at $1000 less than that, and see if a dealer will match it.
Worst case, if you're close to MA, just drive over there and buy it from Weymouth. They post pricing publicly on the website, and it's not half bad. For those that don't like to bargain (and even for those who do) it's a very easy and straightforward solution, and also a good data point to force your local dealer to a more reasonable price.
Comparing OTD prices is useless; taxes and local fees can change. You need to focus on the price of the car plus any dealer-specific fees, of which, honestly, there shouldn't be any.
You shouldn't "hear" about anything being standard or not; go to Honda.com and study about the car you're thinking about buying; for spending almost $35k you should take 30 minutes and study up on the car in question. No offense, but asking for basic information on here that's readily available on Honda's website suggests you aren't interested in looking yourself.
Thank you for your advice, however I have done a lot of research on my own! This is my first purchase of a new car in 8 years and I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to put in too low of an offer. With all the features I want, the honda site says a price of "42,598". I wanted to find out what a good starting offer would be on the touring 4wd model, and then I will just add about $1500 to that to cover the accessories. The other reason I asked was because I was kind of shocked that some people were putting in offers for around 36k. Another blogger said that that was insane because the dealership wasn't making any money on the car. Edmunds gave me a price of 37,700 (w/out accessories). That was the reason for my post, initially I was going to offer 37,700 plus the 1500, but when I saw the other posts on this board I thought maybe i'd try to offer 36,500. I was just checking to see what others had to say.
That is great... Just my 2 cents from just going through my own purchase of a Honda Touring;
1. Get them to e-mail you the quote and explicitly state what is missing from that number (plate, registration fees, dealers fees, etc)
2. Use that quote and e-mail 2 other dealers to see if they can beat it (not just match it)... in addition ask them for the same (what are their fees)...
3. Lastly call your local dealers and see what they are charging for the accessories that you want to install and negotiate that price as well from wherever you will end up buying...
If you are going to look into buying extended warranties... that is negotiable as well do your search and then walk in with a price that you have in mind to negotiate with the "Finance" person at the dealer...
Hope that this helps... buying a car at this price point was nerving for me so using the tips from others in this forum has really help me getting a decent deal...
Just picked up my Pilot lx 2wd from Round Rock Honda(Texas). Paid 25400+ttl at 1.9 for 60. We shopped Houston, San Antonio and Austin, and Round Rock quickly matched the best quote we got. They unloaded it off the truck on Tuesday morning(my wife was excited she was the first and only one to test drive it). I enjoyed working with our sales guy and the finance guy was easy going and did not push for useless extras. Overall great experience and I felt it was a fair price.
I just picked up a 4WD EXL today at Buckeye Honda in central Ohio. They wouldn’t budge from asking $33,676. Add to that a document fee of $250 plus +TTL. (Edmunds True Market Value for this area was $33,384.) I was going to walk, but they gave me a very fair trade in offer and included the following: 1) Trailer Wiring Harness installation, which retails for $240. 2) Installed the missing rivet nuts so I can self-install the Honda Premium Running boards ($418 OEM on eBay) 3) Gave me a forever powertrain warranty (some limits together with maintaining the service schedule with an authorized dealer).
Not the best deal I’ve seen posted, but I am quite happy with the vehicle.
I live in NJ and I just bought a 2011 Honda Pilot Touring yesterday. The MSRP was $41,175 but I paid just $36,495 plus tax+title+etc... and 1.9% for 5yr. The dealer I went to was in Philadelphia named Main Line Honda. My sale person was Lucy Hu but I mainly talked with the sale manager Nino. You can go to their website mainlinehonda.com to find out more. You can mention my name Hung Nguyen so they know the deal was.
What were the best prices you were quoted in Houston? I posted some quotes I received last month for the Houston area, but have not heard back from anyone. Here's the best I've found so far:
For an LX, with no options, I have been quoted $25,450, $25,415, and $25,350. These are about $1,000-$1,100 under Edmunds' TMV and $3,400 under MSRP.

I will probably pull the trigger by the end of April.
It's going to take me 16 hours round trip to Weymouth Honda. With the time consuming and high gas prices like this I am not up to it. Beside that I had a trade in 04 Toy 4Runner Limited with 75K and they gave me 15.5K for my trade in. I have been shopping around for sometime and none of the dealers I went through (5 Hon and 1 Toy) gave my trade-in this much, and the Toyota dealer was the least that offered me just 13K (my first choice was the 2011 Toy 4Runner Limited that they quoted me for 38.6K).
I know it was not the best deal posted here, but I am very happy with my purchase.

OTD was ~38.
~300 in fees
6.25% ma tax.
no other accessories.
I am wanting to know what would be a solid place to start with negotiation on this particular car.
If this price is right, what could be some other things that could be negotiated into the deal (options/accessories)?
'11 Pilot EX-L with RES 33027.29 + 2329 taxes + 250 Document Fee + 34.50 for Title/Tag. Grand Total: $35641.74.
This by far is the best price I have seen. What do you guys thinK?

Or is Edmunds TMV too high?
Any ideas? Thanks.
has a good baseline of what the dealerships should be quoting. Granted, upper NE area, but it's a great data point for what we _should_ be paying.
Looks quite a bit lower than many of the quotes I see on here.

That's what I see on their website. Dest fee included.
