Woo.. You got a great deal too. When did you buy it and got the 4.9%? in Feb? Can you share your buying experiences in detail? Did you do all the work over internet? how many quotes you got? did you need to negotiate the great deal? I am seeing the price is going down a bit when summer is approaching. Thanks.
Well, its been a week and today is the day. The minute they start giving BS, I'll get up and walk. Hopefully they don't force me into buying gap insurance/extended warranty. If anything, the only thing I will be buying is wheel locks and rear splash guards. Thinking about running boards or side steps, what do you guys think?
One final question, does the floor mats and cargo net comes with the EX model?
If you are putting less then 20% down on the vehicle I would consider GAP insurance. If you total the vehicle in 6 months you will be left with a burden that could have gone away for a simple $100 policy.
Call your insurance agent today and ask them to quote you on a GAP policy. Then you can compare this amount with what the dealer can provide you. I was one to always shun the GAP but with today's high cost of vehicles and the rapid depreciation, sometimes this provides nice protection if you are putting very little down.
They will try to get you for about $300 on the wheel locks and splash guards. Once again, tell them you don't want them..then go into how you are worried that the splash guards when removed will leave a hole in the body so give you a new car. The bigger the PIA you are, the sooner they will just leave these items on for you.
What I might recommend is to get the cargo shade so you can cover any belongings you have in the back of the vehicle.
Remember, you don't have to GET UP and walk at this stage, you just have to be UNWAVERING. Don't let them bully you about lost profits, they can't do it. They will try to do there thing - which is make money. Don't fault them, just let them do thier thing BUT don't give in.
Once they realize you are not giving an inch, they will just want to get you out of there so they can find the next person..but give them an inch..and now they will put the full court press on you!
Thanks for everyone's advice in helping me prepare for my new purchase. Just got back from the dealer. The whole transaction took less then 1 hour. Went in sign everything, give him the check / Trade in title / credit card to pay the balance and out the door. Did even ask me if I wanted any options or anything. Went very smooth with no hassle and no questions ask. Once again, Thanks everyone. My out the door price with tax+title+registration+Dest = $29800.
Looking for advice on demo car... Honda Pilot 2006 EX 2WD with 5,000 miles for $27,200 (29,400 walkout). Good deal? Bad deal? What should I offer? Need to buy today!
highlander123, i bought the car on president's day and drove it off the lot that day. i actually got an internet quote from Open Road Honda a few days earlier which i thought was already pretty good ($29,400 not incl d&h). so i decided to call two other dealerships the next day. (didn't share this first quote though just to see what they would give) I sort of followed the 10 steps to buying a car guide I found on Edmunds. Pretty helpful! I made sure to call and ask for the Internet Sales Dept each time. the first dealership (DCH Academy Honda) quoted $29,389 incl d&h so i decided to visit them on saturday but while we were getting our trade-in appraised, another salesman sold the car to somebody else. they only had one in the color we wanted. but i liked the numbers so much that we negotiated everything else and put down a deposit to have them locate the car.
after we left Academy, we drove down to DCH Kay Honda and they had the car we wanted parked in the lot (in Red as well). I called them on President's day and made sure to put down a deposit this time. I gave them the numbers Academy gave me only I lowered it a bit to see if they would be willing to work with me. Otherwise, I wasn't going to waste another four hours and end up leaving without the car. so before we drove down there, I gave the salesperson the numbers to have her check with the manager. (for the options I gave numbers I thought were reasonable based on what I saw they were selling for aftermarket and what msrp was.) I called back 15 minutes before we went down there to see if they would match and they did. Overall great experience with both DCH Academy and DCH Kay Honda but it just happened that Kay had the car and I drove it home that same day! I had to go back for them to put on the side steps and cross bars but everything was done within the week.
Oh and on the 4.9%, this was something they were doing for February. Good luck!
for $600 more, you can drive a Pilot EX AWD. I did an inquiry on a 2WD and its about $800 cheaper, so you are looking at ~$29000 out the door for a pilot that is under 10 miles as to 5,000 miles.
"I gave them the numbers Academy gave me only I lowered it a bit to see if they would be willing to work with me. "
I dont know, I must be misunderstanding you. Do you mean that you had the quote but then lowered it yourself when you told it to DCH? Or did you tell them the quote and then offered less?
As in, did you lie about the quote you received??? Please say it isnt so.
thebill, i told them the quote but told them what i was looking to pay and if they would match it, i would buy from them.
the difference was only a couple of hundred $$'s. the price was still reasonable. i knew nobody was going to go any lower than $29,300. that's a pretty good price in my book! let me know if anybody out there disagrees. thanks.
Have you ever noticed that when a customer says "I have a quote will you match it" that the numbers are all even numbers?
The customer says "I have a quote for $19,000 on the road, will you match or beat it?"
I dont think I have ever priced a car that is an exact even amount for an OTR price. When someone says that to me, it is very obvious that they are just fishing.
you could be right OR it could be they actually got a quote for 19,257.65. But that just takes waaaaaaaaay to long to say and if you come back with 19,026.19 NOW the guy has to break out the sheet of paper and carry the one, do the long math to see how much he is saving.
So, maybe they just round and say- Hey, can you beat 19,200 *bobble*
I had a friend that even took that mentality to another level. Every check he ever wrote was for an even amount and a multiple of $5. If the electric bill was for $62.37 he paid $65.00
Repair man at your house total bill $198.19 - he got a check for $200.00
He alway said he had more important things to do than account for every penny and this was a far easier way to keep his check book balanced.
I was quoted a price of $27,956 for the 2006 Pilot LX 4WD (Blue Metallic) with fog lights and black side steps from a dealer in Doylestown, PA. This price does not include tax or tags, but I believe includes the destination charge. I've been doing some Internet research, but after reading some of these forum postings, I was hoping the collective group could give me some insight. I'm getting 5.74% 60-mo. financing from my bank, which I believe is a pretty good rate right now.
I would greatly appreciate anyone's insights into whether I should counter and if so, how much?
5.74% for 60months is excellent. The lowest I have is 5.75% from capital one.
As for the Pilot LX 4WD. I was debating between the LX and the EX but pickup the EX. The LX the dealer had quoted me for is $26100 (includes the destination). I think the sidebars goes for $800 installed and foglights are around $500 installed. So the price from my dealer would be $26100+$1300 = $27400. I would counter them with something around this ballpark if not lower.
Providing that I just bought the truck and it's currently parking in the street. Do I have to be concern with any of its part being rip off overnight? I had a 2003 maxima and had it less then a week and my headlights was jacked. Got it back and a few weeks later, almost got jacked again, took them out and put back the old headlights. Is there anything on the 2006 Honda Pilot that is an Hot Item that I should be worry about. Currently I don't even have a steering wheel lock on it.
I have a deal on the table for an '06 Pilot EX-L 2WD with no DVD or Navi. Price negotiated is $29,202 from Hillside Honda, NY. I need to add tax and $149 for dmv/reg/tire recycle. They are also willing to give me $1,500 for 1994 Accord with 133,000 miles. Is this a good deal? It's basically invoice plus tax.
I think I just got a great deal on a new Blue Metallic AWD EX-L in NJ. I had the 2005 EX-L Pilot so wasn't too sure whether we would be making this purchase. Dealer ended up giving us full KBB price for 2005, with only paying the difference in tax from the trade in I couldn't have even sold it privately and saved. So ended up with the new 2006 EX-L with pro pack for 29,530 which included destination. With the great trade in price we ended up lowering our payment by $30 a month so I think we got a great deal.
I purchased an 06 EX standard equip 2WD for 27,200. A fair price I thought. I went with the Honda Power Purchase (or whatever they call it). It's similar to a lease, but the title is in your name. In MY situation at least, it was a total no brainer. The best rate I could get on conventional 60 month loan was somewhere around 5.7%. I would recommend giving this a look. If you crunch the numbers, there's really no reason to do a conventional loan on a Pilot, even if you do plan on keeping the vehicle for a long period of time. To me at least.
I forgot to mention on above that the APR for "lease" is 2.4%. To expand..I plan on keeping this vehicle for many years after paying off. So once we agreed to a sales price, I calculated total out of pocket on the conventional loan i.e. 450/mo X 60 mos (not actual figures). So we looked at the "lease". Take your monthly pmts across the 36 months of the lease. Then take the residual (balance of loan on vehicle)at lease end and that amount can still be financed at 2.4% if you decide to keep the car. Sum your total lease payments plus your total payments on financing the residual balance of car at lease end and compare that to the total payment on conventional loan, and you can see that you'll save quite a bit of money going the "lease" route. Again, the title stays in your name. Just thought I would expand and offer my thoughts.
I just purchased a 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD for $29,700 plus all fees and taxes. I was told that the sticker price was pretty accurate and that I would be able to get some money off of it, but not thousands. I told the salesperson that I would be willing to pay the Carsdirect.com (my favorite website for pricing) price of $29,700 and that was it. I left my card and went for a quick bite. I came back and they met me half way between my price and the sticker. I explained that this is my price and that I'd like to buy the car from them and that it was nothing personal, but I'm sure someone would sell me the car for the Carsdirect.com price. The salesperson told me that she wouldn't get paid a fair commission and that she couldn't budge. I kindly offered my deal one more time and even told her that I'd give her a day to think about it before moving on to another dealer. All parties were friendly and I'd reccomend the dealer and the salesperson. I really wasn't looking to haggle and explained that I didn't have time to go dealer to dealer and low ball the price, which I'm sure I could have done and saved a little more. I spent maybe 30 minutes selecting the car, and maybe 30-40 minutes closing the deal because I paid cash. I just got Bank of America approval at 5.79 over 5 years, so I will finance it myself tomorrow. My overall tone was apologetic for having to offer the price that I did, but a deal is a deal and I know that we can get this done. Nice car! I chose amazon green with the olive leather. I heard they may discontinue the color which sounds nice because the car will look unique. I like the new boxiness of the 2006 model and I'm pretty sure I got a good deal for the limited amount of time and total lack of frustration during the purchasing. My out the door was $31,500 ish. I bought the mud flaps and wheel locks that were already installed. I work in a mountain development where there is plenty of mud, so the flaps will be well suited. I have to say that I was going to get the LX 4WD and have aftermarket leather installed for $1400, but the way that that the EX looks with the handles, mirrors, etc matching the body paint sold me. It looks much more luxurious, and the 6 disc changer with factory leather won me over. Good Luck and Good Hunting.
The lease deal is indeed very good... and you could well make out decently by leasing first, then buying out your residual at the end of term..
However, Honda Finance will not guarantee you the same rate on financing the buyout as you got on your lease.. If someone told you that, they were mistaken..
" However, Honda Finance will not guarantee you the same rate on financing the buyout as you got on your lease.. If someone told you that, they were mistaken.. "
Correct, on the buyout you get market rate or what you qualify for. You can also finance that buyout with a credit union.
"The lease deal is indeed very good... "
Please don't tell my wife...she has the "Igottagetmeones" for the Pilot right now and I just paid off the CR-V
On my "Leadership Purchase Plan" I was assured I could refinance at 2.4%. I hammered this point over and over with the finance guy. However, since you've said this I will have to investigate a little further.
I would get the agreement in writing that you can purchase after your contract is over for the same rate as yor contract. When I say in writing I don;t mean by the Finance guy, I mean where it is stated in the contract.
I remember about 5 years ago it was either Audi or Lexus who came out with the a similar "hybrid" lease purchase.
Whereas, the agreement took the form of a lease for the first three years, at the end of the lease the buyer had three options. a) to excercise the purchase option with cash or the pre-arrainged financing option which financed 100% of resdial over 3 years at the same rate offered on the lease. b) excercise a cashless buy and trade-in on a new vehicle or c) walk away.
There was also a funky mileage thing. I remember pouring over the contracts for clients to verify the details. I was unaware that this "program" was still out there?
Is this a Honda lease or a 3rd party?
How long are you going to finance the car for after the lease? I would just be careful, that if you are going to lease the car and then finance it for 5 years, you are now talking about an 8 year loan on a vehicle, which may not be the best financing solution for you in the long run.
If your intentions are to keep this car 5 years or more, you may be better off in the long run just purchasing the vehicle and get a 60 month loan *shrugs*
This is through HMFC. I do plan on keeping the car for more than 5 years. At the end of the 36 month lease term, I plan on refinancing the residual amount for a term of 2 years, or possibly 30 months at the most. Assuming I refinance the residual at 2.4%, this is a more economical way of purchasing the car over a standard 60 month loan. By my calculations, $1700 less out of my pocket over the term of the lease/loan to payoff. My mileage is at 15,000 per year. I have never put that many miles a year on a car so I'm not concerned about mileage. Of course, if I decide to keep the car, mileage isn't a factor anyways at lease end.
Hello everybody, I just received an internet pricing quote from Continental Honda in Illinois for an EXL Pilot AWD and DVD entertainment package for 31118. I do believe that this the vehicle I'm looking for, but is the price "jump on good"? I am hoping to buy in the next 30-60 days, but maybe sooner if the deal is worth it. Any helpful comments? Please help. Thanks.
Unless there are no dealer incentives out there I am unaware about that looks like a price that was better than most people in the Chicago area posted on the prices paid board. MSRP is what $35,595?
Golic, Thanks for your response to my post. I'm trying to gather as much information on this purchase price before I set one foot in the door of the dealership(the sales side atleast). Once I determine who is willing to sell for the lowest I will buy from them. Continental Honda is located in Countryside, Illinois(near 5700 S. LaGrange Rd.) I have been having my '92 Accord serviced there since I bought it in '02(private sale). I have been impressed with their service deptartment so I am hoping this will be another reason to do business with them.
I got an Internet quote from Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. Is this a good price?
The Internet Price for the 2006 Pilot EXL 2WD with Navigation is $31,179 which includes freight and the Running Boards with Installation cost $795. The Processing Fee is $299, Virginia tax and Price william county tax (3.12%) is $1006.91 and Tag and title is $44.50.
Here is the Honda lithmus test for Chicago. Get a quote from Jacobs Twin internet "special accounts" on Grand Ave in Chicago. They will truly have THE lowest price.
I have heard mixed stories about them for the posters here, some have had great experience and others have said they are slime.
If Continental is within $250 I would get it from them and save yourself a trip to the city and a potential hassle. I have bought/leased 3 Honda's so I know much about the Chicagoland dealers, email if you want to discuss off the board.
I am in Pittsburgh A dealer is giving me a price on a Pilot EX AWD with Leather for 30980 which is $700 over invoice and I guess that is a pretty good deal? But he also has a demo with 2000 miles on it. He is willing to sell at invoice. This is $700 less that the brand new car. I know nothing about buying demos. I would think that a car with 2000 miles would be discounted more than $700 over the new car. Or am I wrong? Anyone think this is a good deal? Demo with 2000 miles at invoice $30280? ....... :confuse:
----I would think that a car with 2000 miles would be discounted more than $700 over the new car.----
That all depends if you are selling or buying *wink*
When I was in college, I had friends who worked as car salesman who drove demos (grant it, this was years ago) After seeing what any adolescent would do to a "freebie" provided car that wasn't his, I have strong convictions of ever buying a demo car. *shudder*
I would forgo the demo and work on getting the new car closer to invoice.
Demos should be considered as vehicles with free miles on them.
The warranty starts on the day of delivery and is extended further. I believe its 6 mo and 6000 miles. So a Honda would be 42mo and 42,000 miles bumper to bumper and a powertrain warranty for 06's.
VERIFY THIS INFO BEFORE YOU SIGN ANYTHING, there may be terms and conditions that may apply.
Dont let the miles scare you. I do agree that you should research who drove the vehicle.
Ok heres the deal on the Leadership Purchase Plan.
I sat with one our Business Mgrs and we went through the Honda books to verify.
The Leadership plan is a balloon program. The BUY rate is 8.89% Buy rate means what WE get it for, the customer would be approx 9.95%. There are no tier levels with this plan...there is only ONE rate.
Now the term is variable from 24-48 months, at the end of your term IF you want to keep the car...you make the same dollar payments, but the term is extended to the current interest rate at that time.
In other words, lets say that you pay 400 per month for 36 months. At the end of the term, your payment stays the same (400) but you might have to go for another 36 months to pay off the note. Or longer or shorter..depending on the prevailing rate at the time the term is over.
You were fed a line of crap about the 2.4% and the refi at that rate.
Comments
Base Price $29,300 (incl D&H)
Wheel Locks $50
Cross Bars $150
Blk Side Steps $500
Rear Splash Grds $50
Doc Prep Chrge $129
Reg Transfer $48
NJ Tire Tax $7.50
I also got 4.9% financing over 60 months.

I'm considering a 2006 Honda Pilot EX 2WD (cloth)with 5000 miles on it. Is $27,212 a good deal (29,400 total finance including fees)?
Appreciate any help!
Thanks for everyone's advice in helping me prepare for my new purchase. Just got back from the dealer.

Looks to me as being dead cost. 27,290.65 is dead cost. Sounds like a good deal to me.
after we left Academy, we drove down to DCH Kay Honda and they had the car we wanted parked in the lot (in Red as well). I called them on President's day and made sure to put down a deposit this time. I gave them the numbers Academy gave me only I lowered it a bit to see if they would be willing to work with me. Or.. "My trade and $17K, tax and all."
I always tell him that he could be leaving $500-$700 on the table in his quest for round numbers, but it makes him happy....
My guess is there are a lot of people like him...
So, the dealer may not offer those kinds of prices... but, customers make those kinds of offers..

There for a while we were hit extremely hard in our area...on air bags. They'd steal the car and strip out the airbags then sell them to body shops.
There might be some more on the table there, but I am not that up to speed on the 2WD.

Isn't AHFC the official finance arm of Honda? *headtilt*
If what you say is accurate, it is a nice plan wich gives you some options at lease end.
So, I guess it is possible that they will guarantee an APR for a buyout at the end of the term.. but, I doubt it..

Unless there are no dealer incentives out there I am unaware about that looks like a price that was better than most people in the Chicago area posted on the prices paid board. MSRP is what $35,595?
Where is Continental Honda?
Thanks for your response to my post.

Total is $33,324.41.
A dealer is giving me a price on a Pilot EX AWD with Leather for 30980 which is $700 over invoice and I guess that is a pretty good deal? But he also has a demo with 2000 miles on it. He is willing to sell at invoice. This is $700 less that the brand new car. I know nothing about buying demos. I would think that a car with 2000 miles would be discounted more than $700 over the new car. Or am I wrong? Anyone think this is a good deal? Demo with 2000 miles at invoice $30280? ....... :confuse:
That all depends if you are selling or buying *wink*
When I was in college, I had friends who worked as car salesman who drove demos (grant it, this was years ago) After seeing what any adolescent would do to a "freebie" provided car that wasn't his, I have strong convictions of ever buying a demo car. *shudder*
I would forgo the demo and work on getting the new car closer to invoice.
A backwards ARM, fascinating. *headshake* Any borrow who takes this should have there contract signing arm bent backwards....IMHO.
