About gas mileage, my Z71, 5.3l, 3.73, G80 is getting 15mpg around town since I drove it off the lot. I'm on my 5th tank. As for the Autotrac, haven't got to try it much being in Texas. I have'nt had any trouble with the brakes. They work fine. Can you elaborate some about the the rear rotors? I haven't heard anything about this.

Regarding build dates and production: when did the delay until Feb. for 2500's get changed? Glad to hear you have a build date of yesterday. Mine was to be built on 12/21, but I did not really believe it - too many posts about delays and changed build dates. Would really like to hear about your truck (or anyone else with a 2500) when you get it.
except for two very disappointing interior
qualities which when I took them into an
authorized GM dealer, they told me to go back
to your original selling dealer for service. They
said they will NOT service my vehicle unless it
is either mechanical or something is broke. You
can bet I'm contacting the Better Business
Bureau and filing a complaint against this
Chevrolet Dealership! Has anyone else out there
been told to go back to your authorized GM SELLING
dealer for service because they refuse to do
warranty work? I'd be interested to find out!
One problem that this dealer says 'every 99 truck
does' is when going to a complete stop and go
situation, the drivers side power bucket seat back
clunks and shifts back and forth enough to feel
the shift and more importantly, hear the clunk
very clearly! The other problem is with the plastic center console you get with a CD player
and bucket seats. Everyday under 40 degrees for
the first 10 minutes or so of driving, the
center console rattles/buzzes uncontrollably until
the interior warms up. If you put your hand on the
console, the buzzing goes away. As soon as you
let off, the noise reappears EVERYDAY! The same
dealership claimed to have tightened four bolts.
When I left the dealership, the noise reappeared
and when I called them back up to take another
look at it, they refused to ever see me again.
They claim Chevrolet does not pay them for this
kind of warranty work and therefore, they refuse
to see me! I say since they know the rattles/noises
are there, fix it! Since they refuse, I'm going to try to nail them to the wall!!!!!
I'm interested if anyone else out there has these
two complaints and had similar NON-REFUSAL of
warranty work at an authorized GM dealer?
to push over! I had a long talk with the local
district service manager and he said an
authorized Chevy dealer CANNOT refuse warranty
work. It is in their franchise agreement with
Chevrolet. NO ONE needs to be that rude to a
customer when they hang up on them! I hope others
take my advice and stay away from getting the
power bucket seats with the cheaply made center console! Both are extremely annoying
and made of very poor quality - no ifs, ands, or buts about it! For one, the seats are made exactly
the same (fit, design, and comfort) in both
split bench and bucket seats. For two, the power
seats take longer to move forward than just simply
pressing a lever on the manual seats in order to
get to the extended cab. For three, there is much
more front interior room available with split
bench seats over buckets since the cheap and bulky plastic center console takes up way too much room!
Words of advice for potential buyers! Take it for
what it is worth (a penny?)
See the new Nissin sut strange but cool . and the Mercury (MY) interesting. No news om my Sierra 2500 yet! Will let you know first thing don't worry be happy!
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one waiting for a 2500. My order went in Nov.5 and it finally got a build date of Jan 11. Most of the chevy dealers around here haven't gotten very many in.But I did read that production at the plants are up to speed .That strike didn't help the intro. of the new truck at all. I have been test driving as many as I can. It was hard to order something you haven't driven. Now I know what I'm getting. I ordered a 2500 4x4 LT ex-cab sb with 373 diff.I didn't go with the firm ride susp. or 410 diff. because I don't plan on loading this truck down alot. Some towing but not alot. The 410 was impressive at the lights, and the brakes are great. My wife drives a 99 1/2 suburban and the brakes were gone in 10,000 miles.I'm glad they fixed that. It's going to be worth the wait. Good luck

Most Chevy dealers have a person who is in charge of monitoring vehicle deliveries to that dealer. Find out who it is at your dealer and keep in touch with them.
I expect you'll have the truck within the next week.
I appreciate the replies to the questions I had about the 1999 Silverado issues. I plan to get my truck in the next few months, however, I am going to wait 1) for the new design bugs to work themselves out, and 2) to make a bigger down payment.
This forum has phenomenal growth which proves the intense interest of the subject matter and the desire of its participants to share good info, opinions, and advice.
Thanks.
only when there is 30 plus m.p.h. winds while
driving over 60 m.p.h.. The huge rear quarter
pop out windows do not latch tight like the
1998's and previous C/K Silverados did. Yet another flaw in design. I must say that even
though, so far with only 3,000 miles on it, the
engine and transmission are good, the interior
components suck big time! Huge disappointment
in quality production from the Oshawa, Ontario
Canada plant who built my 1999 Silverado EXT. CAB! I have other minor design problems with the
1999 trucks, but I doubt Chevrolet will listen
to me. My main problems are still with the cheap
center console and power bucket seats!
I'm glad I went reg cab with vinyl 40/20/40....
Anybody even seen vinyl seats on a new silverado?
Got a build week of Jan 24th for my plain jane 1/2 ton 4x4. About a month from when my order got preferenced. Not too bad. Do any of you all have guesses as to when the vehicle will show up in Flagstaff, AZ?
The only disappointment so far has been the tires (OWL) that came on the truck. I've been back twice now for re-balance. Vibration at 65-70 MPH won't go away. Last visit two days ago, dealer said there is a TSB on those tires and they would order me a new set if 2nd balance didn't cure.
Otherwise, a really nice truck to own.
LEATHER BENCH SEATS,TWO TONE PAINT, EVERY OPTION.
DURING THAT TIME I SAW MANY SILVERADOS THAT WERE NOT PUT TOGETHER RIGHT REGARDING FIT AND FINISH. WHEN MINE CAME IN IT APPEARED EVERY THING WAS OK,
BUT AFTER TAKING IT FOR A TEST DRIVE I STARTED TO SEE PROBLEMS. THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF ALIHGNMENT, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS CROOKED, THE INTERIOR PANEL OVER THE REAR SIDE WINDOW WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY, AND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR POP OUT
WINDOW HAD A HUGE AMOUNT OF WIND NOISE,OBVIOUS
WEATHER STRIPPING PROBLEM. THE DEALER AND I AGREED
THESE SHOULD BE EASILY FIXABLE PROBLEMS AND I WOULD COME BACK IN A FEW DAYS AFTER THESE AREAS WERE TAKEN CARE OF AND TAKE DELIVERY.UNFORFUNTLY
THE WINDOW WEATHERSTIPPING ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN A
PROBLEM FOR ALOT OF OTHER SILVERADOS AND HE SAID IT COULD TAKE UP TO 4 WEEKS SINCE IT IS ON BACK ORDER. THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS GOING TO TAKE DELIVERY, WHY BUY SOMETHING THAT NOT RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE? THE DEALER HAD TO PLACE THE TRUCK
OUT ON THE LOT THEY COULDN'T LET THE VEHICLE SIT
UNSOLD FOR 4 WEEKS WAITING FOR PARTS, THAT WAS OK
WITH ME. I THINK I WILL WAIT FOR YEAR 2000 MODEL
THEY SHOULD HAVE THE BUGS WORKED OUT, I GUESS IT IS TRUE WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT FIRST YEAR VEHICLES,
ONE LAST THING THE Z71 OPTION SEEMS MORE FIRM
THE PREVIOUS MODELS. IF YOU LIKE BOUNCING AROUND
GO FOR IT, TRY ONE WITH THE Z85 FIRM SUSPENSION OPTION, IF YOU DO PRIMARILY ON ROAD DRIVING.
Also, was gonna try to convert the center seatback to fold down.
I ordered a 1/2 ton, 4x4, reg cab, base trim, 4.8L, 5speed, camper mirrors, LT245/75 tires, limslip, AC, sliding window, cruise, 4.10, skid plates, big air cleaner, no carpet. Have a Reese Class IV hitch and a Penda bed mat on order.
Thinking about doing the Rhino lining just for the tailgate (go in with my buddies SD and get the tailgates done at the same time hopefully for a discount).
Anybody look at the front bed rail and decide how to reiforce it? Anybody seen a diamondplate cover for the front of the bed? Two dirt bikes tied down tight seem to eventually bow even the american truck beds.
Think I should ask my salesman to see if I could go on the initial ride-around (I think he called it a 'P&E')? I'd hate for the 'guys in back' to womp the heck out of that brand new 4.8L.
One area that I could use some help with is use of the block heater. Does it heat the oil or coolant? Can I leave it plugged in all night or should I plug in an hour or so before driving? Is ther any possibility of engine damage from using the block heater, or is it better to use all the time? Is there a temperature below which you should use the block heater? Any advice would be appreciated.
Maybe #198 (Silverado Problems) would like to
test drive my truck and see for himself what
an un-perfect truck Chevy makes! I am a consumer,
and as a consumer spending nearly $30,000 on
a vehicle (1/2 a house in some parts of my area
and more than I make in salary in a year), I
DEMAND perfection on my vehicle right from the
factory! Unfortunately, Chevrolet does not!
I can guarantee anybody if they drove my truck
for one week, my interior noise, etc. would
absolutely drive them insane! My suggestion to
anyone who is completely happy with their 1999
Silverado to keep it forever, because from what
I'm hearing from others, there is a lot of minor
and major quality of workmanship going into these
new trucks.
And yes the Z71 ride is very stiff, but my wife likes it that way;)

Block heater - heats coolant, leave it on forever with no damage, probably really important at temps below 0 deg F. If electricity were free, I would plug it in always
Dave40 - great idea on the center seat!
