    How many miles per year?
What was your out of pocket at signing?
Does the $649.97 include tax? If so, what is the tax rate in New York?
  • brianm4brianm4 Member Posts: 33
    vsaxena,
Do you know the residual and money factors of the 325 and 330 ci's?
Both 12k and 15k miles per year if you know them.

And, do you think I should do better (or maybe worse) then $1,000 over invoice.

I am in San Diego if that makes a difference.

    Thanks.
  • mikeebearmikeebear Member Posts: 13
    Hi and thanks for answering

It was 15k miles per year. It was the bare minimum paid up front, I believe about $1135 total.

About the taxes, since the car was purchased in connecticut would we not be paying connecticut taxes instead?

    Thanks!

Hey guys, I tried some calculations and wanted to first verify if these are still accurate. A dealer in the South Bay Area has promised $1000 over ED invoice.

    325i $26150
    Steptronic $1210
    Comfort Acc. $455
    Xenons $730
    Power Rear Shade $525
    Premium Package $2640
    Destination $695
    ==========
    Total Invoice $32405

    Dealer Profit $1000

    330i $30975
    Steptronic $1210
    Comfort Acc. $455
    Power Rear Shade $525
    Premium Package $2640
    Destination $695

PP should be cheaper on the 30's. It should only be $2K.
  • wco81wco81 Member Posts: 594
    Why you're right!

So it should be $35,840 ED invoice and $36,840 plus the $1000 profit.

BTW, a couple of dealers have said they will do it for $1000 over invoice. But one guy said they would charge me .00270 instead of what they would usually charge, which would be .00290 for their markup.

Now we'll see what kind of MACO and other fees they try to tack on.

They seem to be ignoring my request for additional security deposits to lower the MF further.
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
No MACO on ED cars. Zero. Don't let them slip that in. The car is sold directly to you so there are no MACO fees attached to it on the invoice.

My dealer ignored the MSDs too. Sit the dealer down and explain MSDs to him. Seriously, most salesguys don't understand MSDs and think it hurts their bottom line. It doesn't. But because they're ignorant they try to play you.

Also do not sign on the lease until 14 days before you pick up. No matter what they say, it's 14 days. Anything earlier and you're cutting your lease shorter.
  • brianm4brianm4 Member Posts: 33
What is MACO? I was just quoted $300 for it. I was also quoted $850 for bank fee's on the lease, are these negotiable?

The deal is supposedly $950 over invoice.
    325i Conv

    Sport Pkg
    Auto
    Heated seats
    Xenon headlights
    Harman-Kardon Sound System
    MACO $300
    Training Service Fee $180

    MSRP 47,870
    Invoice 44,150
    Sale price 45,100

24 month lease, 12k miles, 72% residual, .0023 money factor.

$1952 due at signing (1st payment, license, $850 bank fee)
    $675 per month.

Do you think I can get them down another $1,000? This would reduce the payment about $50/month.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,419
$44,150 invoice? Is that the number they are giving you, including MACO and training fee? Or, is that the number you looked up?

Either way, a selling price of $45,100 vs. MSRP of $47,870 is pretty good on a 3-series convertible...

I'm not sure what the money factor is this month, but the bank fee (aka acquisition fee) is $625.. Anything over that, and the dealer is marking it up for extra profit (usually, they can't over $825..I'd check that $850 number). Since they are bumping the bank fee, I'd assume the money factor is marked up as well.

Using your numbers, I get around $626/mo. + tax.. which makes $675/mo. seem about right..

    1) Make a $700 security deposit.. this will drop the money factor by .00015, and knock about $13/mo. off your payment... You'll get the deposit back at lease end.

    2) Check back in a day or two for the money factor... If it is being marked up the maximum, then getting them to use the base rate would save another $34/mo..

    3) I don't think you'll get them down another $1000..that selling price is pretty good, already.. You can always try the "get the price down to $650/mo. and I'll take it" routine, and let them worry about how to get there... It can't hurt..

    Good luck!

    Thanks for your help.
$44,150 is the invoice they gave me including MACO and training fee.

The bank fee may have been $825, not $850.

I agree the price on the car is good, but I am more worried about the "extras". I will try (and will be very happy with) $650 a month.

i'm looking at a used certified 2001 330cic (convertible) w/premium, sport packages, automatic, xenon - 42k miles, $31,800. I have owned bmw convertible in the past - loved it.

do you all think it is worth that? i'd like to get for closer to $29K...

    thanks!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,419
The base money factor on the 325Cic is .00175.. To get to .0023, they are marking it up the maximum to .00215 and then adding .00015 for the security deposit waiver, bringing it to .0023 total..

I could live with the selling price and the marked up acquisition fee, if you could get them to use the base money factor of .00175... Go ahead and make the security deposit (Payment rounded up to the next $50 increment), and get the base money factor, and your payment should drop at least $45/mo..

Great News, did better then expected!

Final deal was $1921.95 drive off, $597.92 ($644.26 with 7.75% tax).

They came down on the money factor to .0019.

    Drive off included:
    First payment 645
    Reg 352
    Acquisition Fee 825
    DMV transfer fee 28
    CA Tire fee of 8.75
    Tax on Acquisition fee 64

    MSRP of 47,870
    Sale Price 45,184

I ended up sending e-mails to several dealers, then offered the first dealer (closest to my house) the option to match my best deal, she ended up beating it by $5/month and saving me a 2 hour drive to the other dealer.

I am happy with the deal, probalby could have played them off each other for another $5 a month, but it was not worth $120.

I picked up the car last night and love it!

Any people have experience in ordering a BMW before it's official released? I live in New York now but will move to Houston in a few weeks, I will need a car when I get there. I talked with a few dealers in Houston, they all urge me to put in my order in the next few days, so that i can pick up the car in the first 2 weeks in Aug. And they said there won't be much of a discount, pretty much just the MSRP price, not much room for negociation at all, so I'm wondering if that's that's the best price I can get in this kind of situation? Do BMW dealers usually offer leasing options for new model cars?

    1) I don't think you can order now, and expect the car to arrive in the first two weeks of August. Even if they have a slot that they can change the configuration on, four weeks is a little slim... Maybe by the end of August or the first couple of weeks of September.

    2) It is hard to bargain on a car that doesn't exist, yet..

    3) They will offer leasing options.... but, leasing programs aren't announced until the beginning of the current month, so you won't know until August, at least..

Dear kydfx, need your help on this one.

330i, Auto, Prem Pkg, Heated Seats, Rear Sunshade, sparkling graphite, beige leather.

3 years/15k mile per year lease.

    MSRP: 42,225
    Invoice: 38,500
    Selling Price: ??
Out of pocket: 6100 (4400 - 8 MSDs, 1st month pymt, Acq fee, NJ state fee - 200)
    Monthly pymt: $522

Please let me know if I can do better; another dealer is offering me 650 over invoice. What would be the lease pymt on that given I am ready for 7 MSDs?

    Thanks a lot

    Okay..

If they are using the base money factor (.00195), reduced by .00049 for the MSDs... resulting in an MF of .00146, and assuming that NJ tax is around 6% of the payment...

Then, I put the selling price right around $40,400..

Also, from your total due at signing amount, it looks like they might be charging $825 for the acq.fee, instead of the base $625..

With a selling price of $39,150 ($650 over invoice), and using the base money factor with the MSD reduction, the price would be about $456/mo + tax.. (around $483/mo. with 6% tax..

So, it might be worth exploring the other dealer... But, low prices can be offset pretty quickly by the dealer marking up the money factor..

If you can get the first dealer to knock $900 off the selling price, it will knock the payment under $500/mo., and knock your 8 security deposits down to $4000, from $4400.. A small matter, but everything helps!!

So security deposits are a certain percentage of the selling price (or MSRP)?

    What percentage?

    Neither...

The monthly payment, rounded up to the next $50 increment..

Hi all, in the next few months I will be purchasing a new car. I am wondering what a fair price would be on a 325i with the cold weather package only, manual transmission. The cars that I am shopping for are the volvo s40, jetta GLI, acura TSX. I don't care for the Audi A4 because of the very tight rear leg room.
    thanks all

Thanks a ton kydfx; this really helps. I did a calcualtion on the Edmunds calculator and it was giving me a pymt of $505 (incl tax); so maybe I was doing it wrong.

I have contacted various dealers here in NJ; most of them seem to be pretty laid back/uninterested and the response is much weaker than I expected. Maybe they have a lot of buyers; I am not sure.

On your original post, I took your payment of $522 and divided by 1.06 to get an approximate pre-tax payment of $492/mo..

    $42225 MSRP
    $40400 Cap cost
    62% Residual
    .00146 Money factor
    36 month term
    $395.01 monthly depreciation
    $ 97.21 monthly finance charge
    --------
    $492.22 monthly pre-tax payment
    X 1.06 6%tax
    ---------
    Approx. $522/mo. total..

I'm using a simple spreadsheet.. Some on-line calculators factor in amounts that you don't enter.. Also, I'm just assuming the tax rate and method... If it is NJ, it should be something close to that..

Thanks a lot kydfx; you have been a great help.

Well, I am very happy to let you know that I pulled the trigger yesterday evening on a sparkling graphite 330i with the same options mentioned. Car had to be ordered and will be in in 4 weeks. I am so excited.

Regarding the pymt; two things happened - NJ state tax went up to 7% (coming Sat) and the invoice price I had given you was less. I reconfirmed on Edmunds and the invoice was 38,800. I closed at selling price of 39,800, I could have get an additional 200 less from another dealer, but that dealer is fast and I decided that let me just go ahead before I change my mind. No trade in is involved. Pymt came to 509 pm, 7 additional MSDs and total due at signing 6002.

    Thanks a lot, again...

I dont think this sounds like a good deal. I am closing on a new 2006 330i today for $1000 over invoice with Sport, Premium and Auto for $39,875. Compared to the 2001, the new larger faster 2006 have to be worth $8-$9K more than a 5-6 year old car with 41K miles.

I have an offer of 3% over invoice for 40885 with Sport, Premium and Auto for 330i Sedan with Sparkling Graphite or Titanium Silver (cant decide yet) The 36 month prepay lease is 22,734. Its appealing as my trade is covering 70%, so I lay out $6600. The residual is then $26,610. My other option is a 5.99% new car loan and own the thing out right in 30 months with $791 a month payments after paying $6600 along with my trade. Does the lease look like a good deal? Thanks to everyone's help as these boards and test drives have swayed me toward my first Bimmer !! jim

This forum has seemed so helpful as I have read through it, but hoping somebody can give me a leg up when I go to negotiate purchase price and lease terms for a 2006 325i. The MSRP on it is 37,145, and I believe this is with the premium package. I have had a bit of trouble identifying what invoice is for a vehicle at this trim level is, and I'm starting to get lost in determining if I should put money down or not, what money factor I should be hunting for, and trying to identify whereelse the dealer might try to stick it to me. What kind of numbers should I be looking for? (this is in Southern Arizona)

    Thanks!

I just picked up a 330i for $895 over invoice. I was at 3% per previous posts, and then got them to throw in $295 window tint for free. BMW also sold me the 5 yr tire warranty for $638 and then lowered my interest rate to 5.79 to get me to buy it. Overall $19 more per month. They offered 6.9% originally, but when I showed up with a Capital One pre-approval at 5.99%, they met it, then lowered it to 5.79 to get me to buy the tire warranty. Overall a very pleasant and easy experience. With solide credit, you can get the Capital One 5.99% in 5 minutes.
Very happy with my first Bimmer !!!!!

I just moved to Houston as well. My advice is to steer well clear of Clear Lake BMW. I was just there a few days ago and was talking to a sales guy "with 28 years in the biz" with BMW.

They didn't want to budge from MSRP and wanted to mark up the money factor to .00320 (from .00225). He said crazy things like no BMW dealers ever sell cars for the BMW advertised lease rates, like the base 325i for $399/mo with $2500 down + fees. They wanted me to take a 325i with an MSRP of about $36k for $670/month. I was quite polite the whole time but towards the end when he realized I wasn't going to bite, he started making comments about me wasting his time.

They operate under the Advantage BMW name, the same one that is in midtown so I don't know if that one would be better. There are also Momentum BMW and BMW of Houston North. I don't know how reputable they are, but there are lots of dealers at which to compare.
  • badbrefbadbref Member Posts: 2
I made the purchase (well, the lease) today. I got out of there with the price at 36,100, the MSRP was actually 38,425. It is a 325i with premium and sports package. It has the steptronic, which disappoints me a bit, as I wanted a manual, but they didn't have a single manual (they don't even order them.) Seems like a shame, but I really wanted the car. I paid 1900 to get out of the door, but that was first month, plus some other fees. They told me the base mf for this from BMW was .003, and I'm hoping they weren't lying because the guy seemed like a decent fellow. I'm on a 24 month with 12k miles for $623 / month. Hoping I got a decent deal, because I'm thrilled with the vehicle.

In one of these threads, I think you said you had a lease which worked out to like $5700 a year or something like that?

    What was the actual figure?

Was that for 15k miles and included all the taxes (over the life of the lease), driveaway costs, disposition fees, acquisition fees, etc.?
  • maulanamaulana Member Posts: 55
    hi folks.

I am pretty close to leasing a base model BMW 325i, without sports or premium package. I would appreciate the help. I know a lot about prices of cars and purchasing them, but am a bit new to leasing.

By Edmunds' calcuations, a new 2006 w/0 packages would mean MSRP $31,595 and invoice $28,995. I have seen this lease posted on BMW's website:

    Vehicles registered outside of N.Y.
    $399 First month's payment
    $2,500 Down payment
    $400 Security deposit
    $3,299 Cash due at signing.

I am located in North Carolina. Is that about as good of a deal as one is going to be able to get, or are there better ones out there? Any recommendations on particular dealerships?

    many thanks.

    Hi all,
I live in eastern MA and I am interested in a imola red 04 e46 330i with performance package (ZHP), steptronic, and xenons. Dealer quoted me 20500 plus trade (02 jetta 1.8T with 35k miles, the trade-in value is about the same as private party sales price). You guys think I still have wiggle room on the price, considering it lacks the cold weather package here in NE? The sales rep worked on the amount they are willing to give me on my trade rather than working on lowering the price. Just want to know if it's a fair deal and if the dealer's sales tactic is common. thanks!!

Has anybody shopped or bought a 2006 325i in the Dallas Ft. Worth area recently? Reading posts from a few months ago, it appears that it's difficult to get more than $500 to $1000 of MSRP. I'm looking for a base model or possibly with Nav option. Apparently there are only about four BMW dealers in the area.

Any recommendations or shared experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am looking to lease a 330i. Got a quote from a dealer, that I think is a bad one, and wanted to get some guidance on rates.

I was quoted for a 330i with a few options $2,000 over total invoice, or approximately 40,000. I think this is too high - I believe that $1,000 over invoice price for the car and options is more reasonable. The dealer would not show me his lease calculations, but doing it on my own, he seems way to high.

Total cost - $40,000 (I would pay fees up front)
    Lease term: 36 months
Residual value: 58% (using 15K miles per year)
    Money Factor: 0.0025
    Sales Tax: 7%

Even with these numbers (which I think are aggressive), I come out to $620, but the dealer kept quoting me $720.

Any guidance on what I should expect for the MF and Residual Value on a 36/15K lease? Do you agree that $2,000 over invoice is a bit much?

    Thanks!

I just ordered a similar lease and was helped by the folks here, especially kydfx and carman. There are a couple of things that you need to correct before signing anything with this dealer. This lease seem far too high.

For the 330i, the BMW Money Factor is .00195, not .00250. Your dealer is marking this way up. Also, the residual for the 330i for 15k miles per year is 62%, not 58%. $1000 over invoice was what I got, other have got a bit less too.

In addition, you should go the Multiple Security Deposit way, you can pay 7 additional deposits (refunded at the end of the lease term). Each deposit is equivalent to a monthly payment (rounded off to the next 50). For exmaple if your monthly payment works out to be 515, each deposit will be $550. Each additional deposit will lower the money factor by .0007, so 7 additional will lower it by .00049, bringing your MF to .00146. This should help you bring the payment doen substantially, if you have access to approx $5k for the deposits. If not, even then you should get a better lease payment with the .00195 MF, 62% residual and aprox $1k over invoice.

Also, my advice would be to add tax to your monthly payment and not pay it up front, as in case your car is totalled, you will lose all the tax payments.

You mention 7% tax, that makes me think you are in NJ. If yes, let me know as I am also in NJ and got a pymt of $525 pm for a 330i with prem, sport, heated seats, rear sunshade (~$1k over invoice)

Is that $525 per month including the 7% tax?

What was the MSRP and the selling price?

    What was the driveoff?

The exact pymt is 527 pm including 7% tax. Term is 3 yrs/15k miles per year.

The inovice was 38,800, selling price was 39,800 (I think MSRP was around 43.5k, don't remember exactly). Car is 330i, prem pkg, sport pkg, metallic paint, heated seats, rear sunshade.

Drive off is 6k (4400 sec deposit, 527 1st monthly pymt, 625 acq fee and reg fee etc.)

    03accordman and wco81:

Thank you for your reply on my question. Clearly I was getting hassled on the lease. They were quoting over $700. The MSRP was over 41K. They were oferring around $40K, including destination charge of $695 and another charge of $495. I was going to pay all other fees up front. I was surprised that your $527 included the 7% tax, but you also mentioned the security deposit to buy down the money factor. Thank you for your help - it will be interesting to see if they will negotiate. I did think a .0025 money factor and 58% residual was a bit greedy.

    Thanks!
