I'm looking to purchase an '06 525i with the navigation, heads-up display and cold weather package. I can either purchase it in south Florida (where I currently live) or in the Chicagoland area, where I'm going to be moving at the end of the year. Any ideas as to the lowest price I could negotiate in either area? I'm not looking to buy for another 6 months, but I will have $20 to $25k for down payment and don't want monthly payments over $420 if it can be helped.
I know everytime I post on this forum, I simply repeat myself. But I am convinced, the best way to buy a bimmer is by ED. I was in almost the same exact situation as yourself. I am moving to So. Cal from NYC 1st week of July. I ordered my ED '06 525 3/2005 from a Southern Calif dealer. The car will likely arrive in So Cal. just prior to my move.
Subtract approximately $6000 off your US MSRP and you're in the ballpark of ED. Think seriously about it.
Live in South Florida. Want to purchase/lease an 06 525i w/Premium pkg and Auto transmission. MSRP: $45,770. Dealer offered $44,770. Should I wait a few months? Figured since they just came out, dealers not willing to negotiate. Shooting for $1500 over invoice. Am I dreaming?
Yeah, I picked up my car in Munich on 5/2/05. Drove around Munich and Austria on the autobahn. Due to the need for break-in, I only got up to 120 mph. The car is great. absolutely no complaints. Should arrive stateside July.
I don't think you're dreaming. You need to ask your local dealers to wake up and smell the coffee! Currently, the mid-size luxury car segment is a killing field where BMW is not too strong presently. With very competitive offerings from Infiniti, Acura, Lexus and Audi the teutonic arrogance on price should be a thing of the past.
I'd bargain real hard ask let them know that you're seriously condisering the competition as well.
I'm sure the drive on the Autobahn must have been great! I'm surprised that its ok to speed up to 120MPH. I thought 60MPH was the max permissible speed during the break-in.
I assume you drove to Salzburg from Munich - how long was the drive?
When I did ED back in 2001, the BMW rep advised that I stay below 4500 rpm and 130 kph (or about 80 mph) for break-in, or the first 1200 miles. This was very tough to do, especially with all the BMWs, MBZs, Audis, and Porsches who went flying by me at 130+ mph. Luckily, on our return trip to Munich, we exceeded the break-in mileage and I was able to run the car up to 130 mph before the electronic limiter kicked in. Great fun!
For the break-in period, you should stay under 4500 rpm and vary your speeds. I drove on the romantic road to vary the speeds and take nice turns. I only hit 120 mph once and was under 4500 rpm. I may never get the opportunity again to take a brand new bimmer up to speed in its homeland. Then again, I'm seriously considering doing another in 6 mos.
Can someone tell me if this is a good deal. I ordered my 2006 BMW 530i about 30 days ago before I discovered this website. I believe I paid $1,600 over invoice. This is how the invoice breaks down:

This appears to be high compared to what I have read on here. I am wondering if I purchased bad "invoice" information.
Also, my dealer told me that the "sport package" no longer includes active steering which is why the price is less this year and I had to add it. Does anyone else know if this is true? Or did you even notice. The sport package is much less than in past years.

What is the breakdown on the $1872? Do you have to make a security deposit, or is that waived because you are a returning lessee? Are the taxes and/or acq.fee in the upfront money, or rolled into the payment..
If you are getting a $3500 discount on an '06, even if they pad some of the other numbers, you are still getting a good deal (though I don't like it done that way)..
The fact remains, passort is not doing NOW what you claim they did in the past. They like all the other arrogant BMW dealers are trying to rob 2006 buyers. I am waiting for them to begin offering MSRP ++ deals next.
With so much competition in the mid-sized luxory market, anything over $1500+ invoice is robbery.
I was not talking ED. If I was, I'd expect $6000 under MSRP.

As a former MB owner, I was shopping both MB and BMW. The MB experience was 100% better in terms of haggling. I was give a straight 4% off msrp. Once decided on the BMW the first offer was $750. off msrp, then the next BMW dealer said $1500., I wanted at least $2500. off msrp and had to go back and forth at least three times, ugh! But in the end I got what I wanted, which isn't bad I suppose for a special order purchase, but I didn't think car shopping was like this anymore. The dealer started talking about how they have sold over the msrp. The car is on order and I can't wait to get behind the wheel.
has anyone in the NY area been able to get around $1000 over invoice on a 06 e60? seems to me the norm is around 1700 over. please let me know. many thanks
I have worked out a tentative deal on a 2006 550i 6-speed, when they become available for ED ordering as follows:
Car configuration: 550i 6-speed, sport package, navigation, premium sound, cold weather package.
US list on comparable 2005 545i = $64,145. U.S. invoice = $58,625. European Delivery invoice = approx. $54,900.
Price to me on 550i = $1,500 over the ED invoice (approx $2,300 discount on ED price) = $56,400 + whatever invoice price increase may occur between 545i and 550i. Expected availability will be October.
I realize that 5-series pricing has increased significantly since I was last shopping in 2003. At that time, I could have gotten a well equiped 530i sport for around $42,500 through European Delivery. However, with the prices being paid in this forum of $50-$53k for a 530i, I just can't see not jumping up to the 550i for around $57,000. According to my dealer, the improvement in performance and general feel of the new 8 cylinder is very noticable, based upon his drives of the outgoing 745i vs. the new 750i.
I am in southern california. My post #1743 is what I paid.
I would be interested to know if you think this is a good deal as well.
By the way, I only found one dealer even willing to work with me on price for the 2006. It is on order and currently "en route". I expect to get it mid-June.

Sorry, I didn't realize that it was you who had responded. I went through Sterling BMW in Newport Beach. I contacted about 10 different dealers and they all kept trying to sell me a 2005 except Sterling. I think its a fair price.
They were incredibly easy to work with. I paid $60,487.21 out the door with taxes and dmv fees.
I still think it's a lot of money for a car but I guess that's what it takes. Please let me know if you know of a better deal. I can always cancel my order without a penalty
Do you have any knowledge on the active steering. Why did they take it out of the sport package.
I'm probably the wrong person to make the following statements - since I'm on the list to get an M5 at $90,000 +/-.
However, I fail to understand the value of a 2006 U.S. delivery 530i at $55,000+ when, as "habitat1" pointed out above, a 2006 550i can be purchased for well under $60k though European Delivery (from a dealer that discounts ED prices / not all do). Several excessively priced 530i options are standard on the 550i and the choice of transmissions is essentially a no cost option.
Don't get me wrong, the 530i is a fine car, I just don't believe it is a good deal anymore, at any of the prices posted above. If I were really on a budget, I'd drop down to the new 330i and save a bundle. If I could afford a 530i, I'd check my spare change box and figure out some way to jump up to the new 550i.
New to BMW and considering 5 series b/c enjoy the 8 cylinder performance. Will most likely consider purchase in next 3 months. Question whether to go for 2005 545 or 2006 550. Conventional wisdom tells me I should be able to negotiate a better deal on 2005 (about 2K over invoice price). Any thoughts appreciated.
Your conventional wisdom of getting a better deal on a leftover 545i sitting on a dealers lot (if you can find one to your specs) is probably right, vs. the 550i when it first appears at the dealerships.
However, going the ED route, my only difference in price will be the actual invoice increase of the 550i vs. the 545i. The best I could do on either would have been $1,200-$1,500 over ED invoice - and the 545i was discontinued for ED pick up a couple of months ago. Not to repeat myself, but my discounted ED price on a 550i will likely be about $3,000 LESS than your $2k over US invoice on a leftover 545i.
The sales manager at my hometown dealership deterred me from the 545i the day he drove the first 750i they delivered severla weeks ago. He had expected the difference in the new V8 to be minimal. He now believes that, equiped with a 6-speed, the new 550i will approach the former M5 in both actual performance and engine responsiveness. I drove a 2002 M5 for a weekend a couple of years ago and that analogy was music to my ears.
So if your passport has expired or your averse to flying to Germany for a long weekend, a leftover 545i may be the best you can do. But I would look for MUCH better than $2,000 over invoice. I could have purchased a former 540i in 2003 for $4,000 UNDER invoice when they had dealer incentives to make way for the new 545i. The 550i is not a redesign, but the difference may still warrant some factory incentives to move out leftover 545i's.

I don't think the 550i is even being built yet.. You can still order an '05 545i... So, I doubt they have much info to give you, or can even place an order yet.. Certainly, they don't have pricing information..
On any lease, you can roll the acquisition fee and taxes into the payment.. You can also waive the security deposit in exchange for an increase in the money factor (not recommended), and probably roll in all the other registration fees and costs, as well..
In fact, this is the way I like to do it... Nothing but 1st payment and security deposit upfront.. That way, my monthly lease amount reflects the exact cost of the vehicle.

If you are leasing... the '05 545i will be hundreds per month cheaper.
And, they aren't leftovers, yet... There isn't an '06 V-8 5-series available until this fall.. They are still producing the '05 545i.
