Only can have one CD Player ata time. There are two aux inputs in the back. One for Tape..one for CD. Now perhaps you could dump the tape??

I put an after market 10 disc in my last truck. It hooked in through the radio antenna input and worked great.

    Good Luck

I am looking for a Pewter/Graphite LT Ext Cab 4WD with the towing package and 4.10 ratio in Southern California. I am seeking a good dealer recommendation, expectation over invoice and biggest selection. I just read the prior 165 posts or whatever it was and I believe the market is quite different in LA. There are dealers here adding $2000 to MSRP and they are scarce.

autobytel sent me back an email saying, "those are allocated, but if you want an S-10, give us a call."

    Thanks

I'm sorry about my previous post, the prices are over invoice.

The best I could do was $800 over invoice at two dealers on my ordered '99.

You might go just a little North to Ventura County or even go as far as Bakersfield if you want a better deal. There are more trucks out there and dealers might actually deal.

We have been thinking about heading out to Bakersfield, as they also have a little lower sales tax rate, I believe. When searching on Autoland, there are about 10 trucks in So Cal and about 40 at a single Menlo Park dealer.

Call me silly and nostalgic, but I sure wish i could build a relationship and buy a truck from my local Burbank dealer.

    Thanks all,
    Peter

My LT order executed (order number in hand)this week after two weeks delay. One week due to no allotment and once for lack of seat availability. Salesman says delivery in six weeks. I'll believe it when it happens. The ride control option was not accecpted. I'm not sure it will ever happen. The deal (West Texas) is at invoice with only sales tax, 6%, and registration additional. California seems to be more difficult and of course supply and demand can mean more money.

Is it or is it not available on 2000 models? What's the dealer cost? Has it finally passed side impact crash tests? Have heard Ford and Dodge quads have crinkled roofs.... would appreciate any useful information. Like Chevy more than the competition but three doors is a real drawback.... gotta get a truck soon..... thanks. BC

bc7, yes it will be available starting on mid-year 2000 models (hopefully) :) You can start ordering with that option anywhere from mid-november to january depending on who you talk to, unless things change. Supply might be tight.
I'm waiting for that option, then I'll order. Yes, I have kids, and 3 doors would be fine for them, but I want the 4th door so I have easier access to that area.

I just ordered a silverado 2000 Ls I have a order # but the guy at the dealer says he has no production date yet? What does he mean anybody?
And also where can I get info on the order #
    Thanks-
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
You can't get info anywhere except the dealer

Order # means it has been picked up and recognized by GM so to speak..

Build date (prod. date) means it is scheduled to be built and all parts are guaranteed to be available for your truck that week.

have to sit back and wait for the build date now.

No time can be given as to how long....probably about 4-10 weeks

    Good Luck

I am about to order a 2000 3/4 ton 4x4 LT with a couple of extras. I am looking at using the autobuying club through my work. They will sell any vehicle at 100 over invoice. I have seen the invoice and the price is 100 over. As far as I can tell this is a pretty good price, except for the one person who stated they got the same truck at approx 1300 -1400 under invoice.

Are there any hidden costs that I need to try and find by going through this buying club. The fellow I have talked to said there is nothing hidden here.

He also told me to expect a 6 - 10 week wait on this truck. It seems that 3/4 tons are taking longer than that. What can I expect with this truck.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
I can tell you one thing. Order first and then yak here. Every day you wait now...is adding several days to your wait for the truck. The 3/4 LT is a great truck. Don't be surprised if it takes 4 months or more to get here though..

    Good luck

Thanks for the quick response Tim.
I took care of the deal around noon.
They really wouldn't say much about how long it will take. He said if we are lucky 6 - 10 weeks.
But maybe closer to 12. I sure don't want to wait 4 months. For one, that is a long time to be excited to get your truck. Also I have just sold my last truck and I am now driving a beater. And that wont be pulling any snowmobiles when the snow flies.

He said that they do have room to put in this order as they have not used up their allotment for the month. (or something along those lines) He said that should help a little.

Well, the countdown begins now I guess.

    Thanks

    I waited 5 months...started with a 99 and got a 2000.

    Good luck

(In post #187 I meant repost of #186)

I originally had a regular GM card starting 10/92. Wasn't able to max it that year. But found out about the gold card $1K per year, switched and maxed it each year until they dropped that back to max of $500 per year. I also had some pretty large partner bonuses when they were still doing that (extra 5% that did not count toward the ceiling for certain airline tickets, Mobil gas, etc.).

Now the "theoretical" max is actually a little more than $3500 if you have a gold card since they also apply the annual fee toward your rebate (annual fee of $39). This year (and last year) I maxed it and added $539 to the rebate total each year. So a GM gold card actually costs you nothing and you have the extras that come with gold.

i know it popped up before, but i can't find the post. can someone shed light on how you get a "gm card" and what it does? i'm planning on buying a 2000 ls z71, so i know it won't help a lot now. but if getting one now means i'll be set when i buy my *next* truck then i guess i'll do that. thanks in advance for your help...

    werking

The GM Card is a MasterCard credit card that allows you to earn 5% on each of your purchases. You can earn $500 per year over a 7 year period for a total of $3500. These earnings can then be used toward the purchase of most GM vehicles.

Try their web site at www.gmcard.com.

first time responding-hope it's not screwed up!
    info for Peter (evilsofa)
Got a referral from invoicedealers.com to fleet dealer Ken Morgan @ Glendora Chevrolet-Autocenter Drive in Glendora. $500.00 over Invoice-they take holdback; make about $1200 on the deal-no dealer prep, advertising, etc.
Called quite a few Dealers in So. Cal. Most don't want to give you the time of day when you talk about "over invoice" deals. Silverados are HOT!! obviously. Had talked to a Silverado Owner who had bought (3) from Lake Chevrolet in Lake Elsinore for $300 over invoice earlier in the year. Called the salesman-now wants $1200-$1500 over invoice.
So I visited Ken Morgan on 7/3-gave him $500 to order a 2000 3/4 ton LS-5300, extended cab, 3.73, Z85, locking diff., Z82, yada, yada. Factory hasn't accepted the Order yet due to shortage of locking diff. parts (at least that's what the salesman is telling me) Shortage confirmed @wheels.com. Don't know if I'll ever see my Silverado, but I'm getting a helluva deal for So. Cal.!!

Ordered a 2000 Silverado LS, Z-71, extended cab, 5.3 L, Auto, Locking differential, Trailering Package, Bucket seats, Aluminum wheels, sliding rear window, deep tinted windows, P265/75R-16 tires. Price 27,621. Shamrock Chevrolet, Milton, FL

Just ordered a 2000 1500 short box, 4wd, ext cab, LT, loaded with flares, Z71 off road,Z82 trailering, locking diff, 265/75r-16 tires, and cell phone hook-up, in SOUTHERN CAL with a MSRP of 33,395, and invoice of 29,277. Dealer added $500 over + advertising of $329 for a total of $30,106. Ordered on 8/20/99 @ 9:00a.m. and he said the computer took the entire order included in his allotment with a build date on Sept 20, 99. He said it should be in his dealership the first or second week of October. Easiest truck I ever bought. It took all of 10 minutes to write him a check for the deposit and walk out. Not bad for Orange County, Ca! Everyone else out there is right about most dealers not giving you the time of day out here. You know, I really believe my truck is going to be here as ordered!

After market mud guards with the bow tie are available through dealers and other places too. I think they look good.

I also like the after market crome around the wheel wells.

    JohnS,

Try Schumacher Chevrolet in Little Falls, NJ. My brother-in-law, his business partner and myself have all purchased trucks through them. Mine just came in, 2000 LS 4WD ext cab. They are a small family run shop. I paid 700.00 over invoice. Not bad.

just priced a 99 silverado 4x4, auto, 4800, air cond.out the door 23900 out the door + tax.also saw another by you in roscoe up state a2000 model 2wd, auto. msrp about 21500.both were exended cabs. good luck.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
Are you sure it's $500 over MSRP?

$500 over invoice is a lot less. My price was $450 over invoice which was $2000 under MSRP.

I would think $22-22.5K plus tax and license is a lot more reasonable. If your dealer won't come down, try another dealer or try AutoByTel.

I have an order for the same style. I live in Wilton, NH which is 15 miles west of Nashua.
    The price was $27,250 which was invoice + $500 + 1% advertising.
This was with manual benchseat (big savings), rear def., heated mirrors, trailer pkg, 265 tires, alum. wheels, and Autotrac as options.
Dealer was Talarico in Milford, NH. Expect to get the builddate tomorrow, and get the truck n 6 weeks?
  • hillrwhillrw Member Posts: 11
Without dealer incentives and/or rebates on 2000 models, you have done quite well. It is my understanding that local/regional advertising is no longer included in the invoice price of GM vehicles this year (unlike other companies... check out wheels.com). The $500 over invoice that you are paying covers the 1% (probably) advertising fee on MSRP that GM charges the dealership. Of course the dealership is also picking up some profit from the holdback (3% here).
  • dmr3dmr3 Member Posts: 119
All four of the other dealers we went to, were charging a ~$450 advertising cost, (although one was only $200 above invoice, but ended up more with the ad costs)that came up on the GM software, when they printed out the invoices for us..so around here they are still charging for them. They all offered to beat the cheapest price we got..but we stuck with the original because we liked the integrity of the salesman. This dealership was the only one who told me they had no 3/4 ton Suburbans in when I called to check..the other dealers seemed to want a visit, although when we arrived, none had the Suburban. Decided a truck was a better buy anyway, this time around.

Me and my wife currently have a 99 Astro AWD. After having the vehicle for 4 mos we have had nothing but problems w/ the awd system. The dealership where we bought the vehicle is willing to work w/ us and give us a 2K silverado LS extended 2wd w/ limited slip at invoice. I live in the Cincinnati area and wonder if limited slip is sufficient for slight snow in the winter or should I get the 4wd system? Can you only get 4wd in the Z71 pkg? Also we noticed that the rear window was not a slide, we want to get a fiberglass shell and that solid window will not due. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My email is cdrmr1@cs.com

I have done a little number-crunching as to how much can you deal on a new Silverado. The difference between MSRP and invoice is 12.5% on all Chevy trucks. The Wall Street Journal stated that the GM factory gets $8,500 profit on each Suburban sold (that is an average figure). If we apply the same logic to the upper-end Silverados, the profit margin to the factory is approx. $7,000 (calculated by taking the average Silverado MSRP divided by the average Suburban MSRP). The 3% dealer holdback and advertising fees are above the vehicles' profit margins that GM is not willing to negotiate or discount (even though they say that they are 'losing money').

The bottom line is this: If you deal close to or at invoice price on an order, you are probably getting as good a deal as GM and the dealer will allow. But the dealer is not doing you a 'favor' by selling you the truck at 'invoice'. He'll get his (hers) and GM will get theirs. They are not 'sweatting bullets' by giving you a teaser discount. As a matter of fact, some runs of trucks, such as red, white, or black trucks SHOULD be cheaper due to the high production runs. But we hungrily go to the dealer hellbent on getting OUR WAY! Sometimes, it's better to just sit back and let the dealer go thru the frustrations. It also helps to go in the sales office with your own calculator (intimidating) and deal on ALL fees (except TTL). As in hunting, it's not the trophy but the KILL! Have fun in your deal. YOU are holding the flush so wear your salesman down. Leave. Let him (her) call you for a better deal. Good luck.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    Creid,

Limited slip will help for light snow. It does not replace 4WD..but helps. Pulling power on the front tires is much better in my opinion. The Z71 is an option after 4WD...it is not required. As for a slider...many after market ones are available at many places.

    Good Luck

Did anyone pay for extended warranty on a Silverado of any year? Is it worth buying the extended warranty? Please respond
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
I tend to avoid all extended warranties. I figure that they wouldn't be offered if the manufacturer, dealer, and/or insurance company didn't make money on them. Most cars will go 60,000 miles with no problems; most will also go 100,000 miles with no major problems. I'd rather take my chances, since the likelyhood of anything major going wrong is rather slim.
  • kernickkernick Member Posts: 4,072
Exactly right rwagoner. The companies selling the warranties set the prices high enough to make money. On average you will lose money. They take your money upfront, invest it and make money, and then give some part back.
This is the same principle at department stores, and the biggest industry of this sort - insurance. Everytime you buy one of these warranties or insurance realize that ON AVERAGE, you will get back less than if you invest the money yourself.

Unless you buy a Chrysler! We used to own 2 dodges. 89 and 98 Voyagers. Both had there share of problems. After going through 3 a/c compressors, a/c hoses, evaporator core, starter on the 89, I bought the extended warranty on the 98. BTW, the three speed transmission locked-up in our driveway with only 15,000 miles on it..thats right...15,000 miles. Hopefully not a sign of things to come. I swore to my wife that we will no longer buy chryslers. I'm getting my Silverado next week. I will take my chances and not get the extended warranty.

  • jimmcdjimmcd Member Posts: 16
It is good to remember that dealers buy at wholesale and sell at retail. Trade-ins are not in the best interest of buyers. I know it is easier and the money is needed to make the trade at times but it is better to sell the old vehicle oneself. By selling between wholesale and retail prices both the buyer and seller save money.

I am a financial counselor and all of my sources discourage purchasing an extended warranty on anything. The Chrysler factor may have merit. I too will never own another one of their products. We should have a support site to air the horror stories.

Thanks renenevada for the number crunching. Companies, dealers nor sales people suffer or make so little they cannot feed their families. Buyers rarely get the "best deal" they could get.

    Cheers - Jim

We were told they are not available (just the tube ones are). Our dealer told us they had a problem with them. Guess we will go after market. We had an appointment today to order, and our salesman called in ill. Tomorrow will be the big day. He said when he called today, still looks like a 20 week wait.
