details/specifications of the new 2000 Silverado PU? What are the major improvements over 1999 model? And the price compared to 1999 model?
Thanks.
e.g. Long Bed vs. Short Bed, engine size, 2 WD vs. 4 WD, differential wheel lock vs,. none, suspension and shock requirement, best rear axle ratio (for gas economy)
Also, can someone order a Silverado(from the factory) with the truck raised higher, like some of those PU's you see on the street. What kind of option is that? Do you need to have someone put it in (special suspension) after you bought the truck from the dealer?
Thanks.

which suspension package did you order on your 2000 silverado? we just tried to order one this week with the Z85 suspension and the dealer is saying we have to get the Z71 package, can't get the Z85 package.
Both are options on top of the base suspension.
There should be no reason you can't get the Z85 instead of the Z-71.
Your dealer is full of S#@T!!
I knew the dealer was wrong...what you said he says this time sounds a little more like it..
Who told you about the seats??..same dealer??
Duno what to say about the seats?
Don't worry about the zx3....4WD is much more important...and will give WAY more resale value
Tim
thanks for all your info. did you compare gmc to chevy before you bought your silverado? any thoughts?
thanks,
kelly
I know they have some options not available on the Chevy..Like 2 tone LT (SLT) paint .
I just plain like Chevrolet Better.
Tim
So if he sells it to you on order (from factory) for 500 over invoice, her profits 1,100, right.
I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast and dealers in the Mobile Al- Pensacola Fl. area are not very cooperative.
Thanks!!!
I would drive farther for a good deal.
I NEED A VACATION ANYWAY!!!!!!!
Good dealer...90% of sales are trucks
I noticed (from kbb.com) that the 2000 LT shortbeds are about $1000 more than the '99s. ($700 to start, another $300 to get the same/similar tires and suspension). Glad I gor my '99!
I guess Chevy figures that if a Toy truck can sell for over $30,000 than a real truck can have the price raised somewhat (and still be a better truck at a better price).
Tim
You didn't mention Ext.Cab...thought I'd bring that up.
Good luck
Tim
dealer + $250, delivery on the spot, no hassles, arguments, zip, nada!
Smiling!
Anyone else encountered this situation - or seen firm pricing on the 2000 Silverado's yet?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Thanks Guys... (whoops, and Gals)
Horsepower and torque are up slightly in 2000; most other things are the same as 1999, and I doubt you could tell the difference looking at both year models side by side.
Either year would be good. I have 1500 miles on my '99 LT in four weeks. Solid truck, nice drive.
very observant. I would put my money on the former.
or wait. That was msb19981998. You may want to switch salesman in the future, however.
What model is your GMC?
There are no Silverados available around here, and FEW in all of Los Angeles/Orange counties ... absloutely NO LTs. Again, I seriously doubt a rebate will be connected with a truck that can't even be found easily. Rebates go on slow sellers ... like the S-10 and the GMC equivilent. Why give rebates when you are already behind demand?
that they won't offer a rebate on such a hot seller as the new truck. My only point was that
your salesman said "never in 10 years" which is wrong. Since you asked, my '98 GMC is a K1500 Z71 extended cab SLE (5.7L engine) with all the goodies except leather and overhead console. Got it for $22,105 (including tax, title, & fees) after the manufacturer's rebate ($750), my GM card rebate ($2218) and the college grad rebate ($400).
That price was one of the reasons I chose to get the '98 instead of waiting for the '99. There is no doubt that the '99 is a better truck design in just about every way, but for $4000 or so more (subtracting my two other rebates from the '99 price) than what I paid. I also went on the assumption that the '99's would have troubles since they're the first iteration of such a drastic new change. That seems to be the case based on what I'm reading here. Finally, I just plain preferred the looks of the '98.
(Sorry, I didn't mean to give you my life story, but my fingers just kept typing).

What tax rate do you pay and in which state is it? Here in New Mexico, there's no sales tax (which is 6.1% in my county) on cars. There's only an excise tax which is 3%. I was happy with that (saved me about $650 verses the sales tax rate).
Yeah, the old trucks did stop selling when people knew there was a new truck coming. I started looking at dealers in my area around mid-July '98. Every time I went past the dealers,
I noticed all the same trucks there
even till the end of August when I bought mine.
That made me think I could get it for a steal with enough bargaining patience (and my rebates). I eventually bought the white one with the third door. I think the silver-gold color (can't remember the official name of it) is the best looking color, but they didn't have one with the third door. What color did you get? Did you have a preference?
I used the card for almost everything too (except for things where I wanted to double the warranty). It did take 6-1/2 years, but worked out well. I always pay in full each month (I think the card people hate people like us).
The tax rate in Los Angeles County (CA) is 8.25% License was about $500 or so. Unfortunately, CA treats the GM Card rebate as a down payment, so I still had to pay tax on the rebate amount (someone on this board long ago said that the GM card rebate was not taxed)
My preferences were peuter and black. I liked the green but thought it would be dated too quickly. My '91 S-10 was black and it held up well, and I really like the look of black, so that's what I got. Interior is gray.
If you read an earlier post, I was really pissed at my dealer for changing the deal (he charged a regional advertising fee that was never mentioned). Turns out that it was a misunderstanding on both our parts on a regional ad agreement that the dealer entered into after I placed my order. I am no longer angry and they have bent over backwards to make me happy (short of refunding the ad fee) ...
I also got a LoJack. Don't know if it was worth it, but I did have a '67 Camaro stolen -- never recovered -- in 1987 (while I was on a date of all things) and since the truck is not garaged I figured it might be a good idea.
I really like the new truck, but I still have to get used to the size (extended cab short bed ... same size as a Suburban) and mileage (averaging about 14 city, 18 highway). My dogs love the camper shell and BedRug. Even my wife likes riding in/driving it.
One problem: My insurance is set for 7500 miles per year or less (I work 1 block from home and try to split the mileage bewtween the truck and a replacement '67 Camaro) ... but I already have almost 2000 miles in one month on the truck!

Anyway I want a '00 X-cab 1500LS 4x4 Z-71 w/5.3. I want that extra 15hp! Also you can only order a '00 now. I have $500 in my GM card rebate account. I used $3400 last year in Sept. on a 1998 Camaro V-6, which was sort of like having a 1 year lease. I should get slightly more on trade or selling it than what I paid for it, as there was a $2,000 factory rebate at the time after the strike.
I didn't want to buy a 1999 truck last year in Sept. 98, as they were getting sticker price and I didn't want the first batch built. If I get a good one I plan on keeping it for many years, so I think it'll be worth the $27K or $28K price I'm looking for.
Also a political message: being a happy resident of New Hampshire I urge you to fight for lower taxes. We have no sales tax here - 0%. We do have a town registration every year based on the value which will run me this year about $600 - but that is deductible from the Fed. taxes. Other than that a $40 state registration.

My wife and I had testdrove a '99 Z-71 1500 a couple of weeks ago at Talarico in Milford, NH. They didn't even get our names, just tossed us the keys to the truck we wanted to drive (they have a bunch of trucks with 100 - 200 miles for some reason). Anyway that was decent.
When we went in today we went with the printout off the Kelley BlueBook website. We had Hi-lited every option and price we wanted. The salesman checked on the computer and showed us the options and prices. Kelley's was right-on with the GM prices - to the penny. Unless we could get extremely lucky we told him we wanted to order the truck. We specifically didn't want bucket seats - and you'll save $350, if you opt for the bench. Also I skipped the power seats which is another $400!
Anyway he said they have an allotment right now for 8 trucks, 2 of which were sold. He said they could get them in and sell them for $1500 over invoice. Since they had a definite sale and I had the pricing we negotiated $500 over invoice plus a 1% advertising fee + $115 administration and title. I do have a $500 credit card rebate, and there is no sales tax here in NH. I have until 8/3 to make any changes, and the order should go in that day. They said about a 2 month wait. I'm figuring about 3, as I want gold ext., which I haven't sen many of, and don't think they load the paint guns up with too often.
Also does anyone have a good price for a bedliner?
The dealer will put 1 in for $280 - an over-the-rail Duraliner with tailgate guard.
dealer invoice + $250, last week of June, through Autobytel. Saw dealer on Wed Drove truck home on Fri. Very pleased with process no hassles. Truck is great
I'm still undecided as to which truck to get, too many choices. I have heard the dealers around the Flemington area are pretty good with making deals.
Did you go to the dealer directly or through a service like autobytel?
Would you list the configuration of you truck..ext cab, 4x4,etc...
I will probably go for an ext. cab, 4x4,z71,3.73 lim slip rear, 4.8l, manual trans, short box...and a few more goodies.
This will be my first new vehicle and wish to get a good deal.
Good luck
Bob
I didn't get anything fancy it's a standard cab with a long bed V-6 auto with air, it's pretty utilitarian and not much different from the 90 Chevy Work Truck I have now. To buy it I went directly to the dealer told them what I would pay and was out of there in about an hour. I tried using gmbuypower.com and I had a real bad experience with Pine Belt Chevy in Lakewood. It seems the trucks they have listed on GM's site aren't always the ones they really have. I had the distinct feeling they were either trying to pull a bait and switch on me, or they are completely unorganized. And after the way I was treated they would have to go way below invoice to get me to buy a truck, but thats another story. By the way the dealer in Flemington is on route 202 not 22. Hope this info is helpful and good luck with your new truck.
