Can anyone give me the web site which gives
details/specifications of the new 2000 Silverado PU? What are the major improvements over 1999 model? And the price compared to 1999 model?

    Thanks.

Can anyone advise me on the needed equipment or options for carrying a Camper (say sleeps 4-6 people)on the Silverado?

e.g. Long Bed vs. Short Bed, engine size, 2 WD vs. 4 WD, differential wheel lock vs,. none, suspension and shock requirement, best rear axle ratio (for gas economy)

Also, can someone order a Silverado(from the factory) with the truck raised higher, like some of those PU's you see on the street. What kind of option is that? Do you need to have someone put it in (special suspension) after you bought the truck from the dealer?

    Thanks.

Hey you all! Looking to buy a 99 Silverado in the Tampa area. Will also consider dealers in Orlando, Sarasota & Jacksonville areas. Can anyone recommend a dealership??? Also, should I buy a 99 model now or wait for the 2000 model?
  • mtbh2oskimtbh2oski Member Posts: 13
You'd be doing pretty good to get an order # in two weeks. The factories are closed right now for their annual summer shut down, so the dealers aren't getting any allocation info during this period (until next Tuesday, I think?). Once things start back up, your dealer will get a listing from GM for vehicles available to them for ordering, and if you're lucky they'll be given an allocation for a truck like yours that they can turn into an order, and then you'll get your order #. If they don't get any allocations for 3/4 ton extended cabs, then they'll have to wait until the following week when the next report comes in (& so on) until they can match your order with an allocation from GM. They get the listings every Tuesday morning. Hope this helps!

hi. i'm new at this, so i hope i'm doing it right.
which suspension package did you order on your 2000 silverado? we just tried to order one this week with the Z85 suspension and the dealer is saying we have to get the Z71 package, can't get the Z85 package.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    Huh??

Both are options on top of the base suspension.

There should be no reason you can't get the Z85 instead of the Z-71.

Your dealer is full of S#@T!!
  • cluckcluck Member Posts: 14
my dealer just called back and said he misunderstood his boss. the problem was that i couldn't get the P265 tires unless i got the z71 package. also, do you know anything about the 6 way power seats (AG2) being on the contraint list?
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
I've heard something...but not sure what....This old mind can only retain so much..

I knew the dealer was wrong...what you said he says this time sounds a little more like it..

Who told you about the seats??..same dealer??
  • cluckcluck Member Posts: 14
yeah, same dealer told me about the seats. do you know anything about the ZX3 suspension not being available with 4WD? that's the suspension that you can switch between smooth ride and firm ride.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    ZX3 is 2WD only....that is correct..1500 only too I'm pretty sure

Duno what to say about the seats?

Don't worry about the zx3....4WD is much more important...and will give WAY more resale value

I have always liked the Chevrolet Grill and Bowtie better.
I know they have some options not available on the Chevy..Like 2 tone LT (SLT) paint .

I just plain like Chevrolet Better.

just put oder in for v6 ext 2wd, was wanting to know how it will be. 600 bucks for an additional 15 ft.lb of tourk seems like alot bagged mine for 20800. auto,air.....
  • bone2bone2 Member Posts: 1
I just want to make sure we are all talking about the same thing when we talk about how much we paid over or under dealer invoice. Now, if the dealer pays 20,000 for the pickup and options, then he gets the rollback money, 3%, for Silverados, in 90 days after receipt of vehicle. So dealer pays 3% below dealer invoice or $19,400
So if he sells it to you on order (from factory) for 500 over invoice, her profits 1,100, right.
  • craecrae Member Posts: 2
Does anyone know of a dealer in Al, Fl, Ga. or Mississippi area that sells Z 71's for a few hundred above the invoice price?
I live on the Alabama Gulf Coast and dealers in the Mobile Al- Pensacola Fl. area are not very cooperative.
    Thanks!!!
I would drive farther for a good deal.
    I NEED A VACATION ANYWAY!!!!!!!

$24100 LS regcab 5.3 4X4 HDTP, and everything else I ever wanted...ordered Feb - still waiting!! Highly frustrated, trying to remain patient. Currently sitting at event 3000 - Dealer indicated that other trucks ordered in same era took steps backward from event 3000 moving to event 3400, not sure what the gig is! - but I would like my truck now please.

I'm looking for a 99 Chevy Silverado, loaded, 4 door, no 4X4 if possible, fleet side. I'm told that they are unheard of. Let me know if you get yours

Does anyone know a cooperative dealer in west Texas (Abilene area?) Looking for a loaded LT.
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
All LTs are "loaded." You can add trailering and locking differential, and that's about it.

I noticed (from kbb.com) that the 2000 LT shortbeds are about $1000 more than the '99s. ($700 to start, another $300 to get the same/similar tires and suspension). Glad I gor my '99!

I guess Chevy figures that if a Toy truck can sell for over $30,000 than a real truck can have the price raised somewhat (and still be a better truck at a better price).

This reply is to Wheaton. We've been doing some research and shopping around for a 1999 Silverado and haven't had much luck this late in the model year. I do know that the 4th door is going to be an option on the 2000 model but it was not offered on the 1999 model (according to my dealership and the internet). Good luck finding what you are looking for. It looks like we are going to by a 2000 unless anyone knows where we can find a 1999 LS EXT cab with a V8 engine. I swear, I have checked every dealership in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and everywhere in between and no one has any V8 2x2. I guess we waited too long.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Too Bad You are not near Michigan...The dealer here has at least 30 LS's...Almost all V-8's.

I hear all these good stories, now my sob story. Ordered Silverado 1500 SB 2wd LT with Ride Control 10/5/99. Was told to expect 12 to 16 weeks. Still don't have it. First thing was the Ride Control didn't go into production until Feb99. Then delay after delay due to various constraints. Last call to customer support line checking on order, was told order had been 'Red Flagged', check with dealer. Dealer said it would not be a 99 truck and that it had been removed from system. Reason I have hung in so long is, I have 1% over invoice deal. Now I am being told that the order will need to be re-entered and that I will get price protection (same price as agreed deal) plus an additional $1000 off for hanging in there. At this point I have nothing in writing Does anyone know if the dealer can actually enter an order in the system now? Also I wonder why the order just didn't carry over to be a 2000?

    All LT's are Extended cab.

You didn't mention Ext.Cab...thought I'd bring that up.

    Good luck

Getting ready to order a new 2000 model Silverado LS 4x4 Ext Cab with the GMO Option 1 discount. Ironically, while dealers are accepting order for these vehichles - they have been unable to show me prices. My local dealers have told me to ensure delivery within 6-10 weeks of production start (EOM July) I should place the order now. They expect roughly 3% increase in price over the '99 models - but cannot tell me when they will have firm prices for me to order from.

Anyone else encountered this situation - or seen firm pricing on the 2000 Silverado's yet?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

A 4th door - while in the works - WILL NOT BE AN OPTION in the 2000 model year for Silverados.

Okay, I am looking for a '99 or '00 LS 1500 Z-71 X-cab with the 5.3. I can get invoice today, but I have heard rumors that in August, the dealer's will get a rebate or special interest rates on the 1999s. Does anyone have any confirmation of this? I am planning on buying in Aug/Sept and would also be interested in hearing peoples' opinions on whether to buy '99 or '00. email Matt at msb19981998@yahoo.com

    Thanks Guys... (whoops, and Gals)
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
My salesman said that, in his 10 years of selling Chevy, he has never once even heard about a rebate or special financing for full size Chevy trucks. They sell so well, GM apparently never discounts them. Since '99s were in short supply, I doubt waiting would be worth it...there is even less chance for discounts. Since prices are going up for 2000 (up to $900 on an LT short box), waiting may cost you more.

Horsepower and torque are up slightly in 2000; most other things are the same as 1999, and I doubt you could tell the difference looking at both year models side by side.

Either year would be good. I have 1500 miles on my '99 LT in four weeks. Solid truck, nice drive.
  • powerisfunpowerisfun Member Posts: 358
Your dealer is trying to get you to buy right now, because it's to his advantage. I bought my '98 GMC with a $750 rebate (Chevy's also had the rebate). Not that that's a spectacular rebate, but it proves your dealer is either a liar or not
very observant. I would put my money on the former.
  • powerisfunpowerisfun Member Posts: 358
Sorry, I mixed up two messages. I thought you were the guy that was wondering whether to buy now
or wait. That was msb19981998. You may want to switch salesman in the future, however.
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
You received a rebate on a full size truck before it was "discontinued" (before the new models were released in 1999? The only rebates I gave seen have come on the old models. They MAY have done something after the strike, but it certainly didn't appear on the new models.

    What model is your GMC?

There are no Silverados available around here, and FEW in all of Los Angeles/Orange counties ... absloutely NO LTs. Again, I seriously doubt a rebate will be connected with a truck that can't even be found easily. Rebates go on slow sellers ... like the S-10 and the GMC equivilent. Why give rebates when you are already behind demand?
  • powerisfunpowerisfun Member Posts: 358
Yes you're right that my rebate was on the "discontinued" model. You're probably right
that they won't offer a rebate on such a hot seller as the new truck. My only point was that
your salesman said "never in 10 years" which is wrong. Since you asked, my '98 GMC is a K1500 Z71 extended cab SLE (5.7L engine) with all the goodies except leather and overhead console. Got it for $22,105 (including tax, title, & fees) after the manufacturer's rebate ($750), my GM card rebate ($2218) and the college grad rebate ($400).
That price was one of the reasons I chose to get the '98 instead of waiting for the '99. There is no doubt that the '99 is a better truck design in just about every way, but for $4000 or so more (subtracting my two other rebates from the '99 price) than what I paid. I also went on the assumption that the '99's would have troubles since they're the first iteration of such a drastic new change. That seems to be the case based on what I'm reading here. Finally, I just plain preferred the looks of the '98.
(Sorry, I didn't mean to give you my life story, but my fingers just kept typing).

  • powerisfunpowerisfun Member Posts: 358
Wow, now that's a rebate ($3560)! I use my card for everything I can that I would normally use cash or a check for (what terrible grammar!). Groceries, gas, etc. Then I just leave the cash in the bank and pay the balance every month with no interest. What a deal! I had the gold card, but then they changed the limit down from $1000 per year to $500 per year (which is the same as the regular card), so I went back to the regular card to avoid the annual fee.
What tax rate do you pay and in which state is it? Here in New Mexico, there's no sales tax (which is 6.1% in my county) on cars. There's only an excise tax which is 3%. I was happy with that (saved me about $650 verses the sales tax rate).
Yeah, the old trucks did stop selling when people knew there was a new truck coming. I started looking at dealers in my area around mid-July '98. Every time I went past the dealers,
I noticed all the same trucks there
even till the end of August when I bought mine.
That made me think I could get it for a steal with enough bargaining patience (and my rebates). I eventually bought the white one with the third door. I think the silver-gold color (can't remember the official name of it) is the best looking color, but they didn't have one with the third door. What color did you get? Did you have a preference?
  • rwagonerrwagoner Member Posts: 338
    Tim:

I used the card for almost everything too (except for things where I wanted to double the warranty). It did take 6-1/2 years, but worked out well. I always pay in full each month (I think the card people hate people like us).

The tax rate in Los Angeles County (CA) is 8.25% License was about $500 or so. Unfortunately, CA treats the GM Card rebate as a down payment, so I still had to pay tax on the rebate amount (someone on this board long ago said that the GM card rebate was not taxed)

My preferences were peuter and black. I liked the green but thought it would be dated too quickly. My '91 S-10 was black and it held up well, and I really like the look of black, so that's what I got. Interior is gray.

If you read an earlier post, I was really pissed at my dealer for changing the deal (he charged a regional advertising fee that was never mentioned). Turns out that it was a misunderstanding on both our parts on a regional ad agreement that the dealer entered into after I placed my order. I am no longer angry and they have bent over backwards to make me happy (short of refunding the ad fee) ...

I also got a LoJack. Don't know if it was worth it, but I did have a '67 Camaro stolen -- never recovered -- in 1987 (while I was on a date of all things) and since the truck is not garaged I figured it might be a good idea.

I really like the new truck, but I still have to get used to the size (extended cab short bed ... same size as a Suburban) and mileage (averaging about 14 city, 18 highway). My dogs love the camper shell and BedRug. Even my wife likes riding in/driving it.

One problem: My insurance is set for 7500 miles per year or less (I work 1 block from home and try to split the mileage bewtween the truck and a replacement '67 Camaro) ... but I already have almost 2000 miles in one month on the truck!

My post about being angry with the dealer was in another topic. Doesn't matter now anyway.

I'm going down the local Chevy dealer this Sat. - last day of the month. Hopefully they can use the order to make some sales number for July and I'll get a good deal. But maybe since I'm not buying off the lot it won't matter to them.
Anyway I want a '00 X-cab 1500LS 4x4 Z-71 w/5.3. I want that extra 15hp! Also you can only order a '00 now. I have $500 in my GM card rebate account. I used $3400 last year in Sept. on a 1998 Camaro V-6, which was sort of like having a 1 year lease. I should get slightly more on trade or selling it than what I paid for it, as there was a $2,000 factory rebate at the time after the strike.
I didn't want to buy a 1999 truck last year in Sept. 98, as they were getting sticker price and I didn't want the first batch built. If I get a good one I plan on keeping it for many years, so I think it'll be worth the $27K or $28K price I'm looking for.
Also a political message: being a happy resident of New Hampshire I urge you to fight for lower taxes. We have no sales tax here - 0%. We do have a town registration every year based on the value which will run me this year about $600 - but that is deductible from the Fed. taxes. Other than that a $40 state registration.

Please let us know how you make out. I was hoping to order myself the same (just about) truck this weekend, but got called in to work to do a transport from KS (that'll take all weekend and we have Blue Laws in my county which kills Sunday anyway). Thanks.

Which dealer in NJ did you place your order with?
  • mkijekmkijek Member Posts: 3
Circle Buick, Chevy, GMC and probably a couple more on rt 22 Flemington. Salesmans name was Chris and I can't remember his last name, if you need it let me know. They also have a very attractive saleswomen there by the name of Beth. If she would have been my salesperson I would have ended paying MSRP I'm a sucker for Blue eyes.

See my post #82. Ordered 2wd LT Ext. Cab, short box, with Ride Control, 10/5/98. Still don't have it. The option wasn't put into production until Feb. The order was accepted by Chevrolet and a production date of late May was posted in the computer. For what ever reason, it was never built. It has since been removed from the computer by Chevrolet, and I am being told by the dealer that they must re-enter as a 00 and I will get at same price as 99 deal (1% over 10/5/99 invoice) plus for hanging in there I'll get an additional $1000 off. I don't know for sure that any Ride Control Options were actually ever built. But because of the deal, I guess I'll stick around.

I just got back from the local dealer. I decided to stay there as they seemed decent as I'll describe.
My wife and I had testdrove a '99 Z-71 1500 a couple of weeks ago at Talarico in Milford, NH. They didn't even get our names, just tossed us the keys to the truck we wanted to drive (they have a bunch of trucks with 100 - 200 miles for some reason). Anyway that was decent.
When we went in today we went with the printout off the Kelley BlueBook website. We had Hi-lited every option and price we wanted. The salesman checked on the computer and showed us the options and prices. Kelley's was right-on with the GM prices - to the penny. Unless we could get extremely lucky we told him we wanted to order the truck. We specifically didn't want bucket seats - and you'll save $350, if you opt for the bench. Also I skipped the power seats which is another $400!
Anyway he said they have an allotment right now for 8 trucks, 2 of which were sold. He said they could get them in and sell them for $1500 over invoice. Since they had a definite sale and I had the pricing we negotiated $500 over invoice plus a 1% advertising fee + $115 administration and title. I do have a $500 credit card rebate, and there is no sales tax here in NH. I have until 8/3 to make any changes, and the order should go in that day. They said about a 2 month wait. I'm figuring about 3, as I want gold ext., which I haven't sen many of, and don't think they load the paint guns up with too often.
Also does anyone have a good price for a bedliner?
The dealer will put 1 in for $280 - an over-the-rail Duraliner with tailgate guard.

    Thanks for the dealer info.
I'm still undecided as to which truck to get, too many choices. I have heard the dealers around the Flemington area are pretty good with making deals.

Did you go to the dealer directly or through a service like autobytel?

Would you list the configuration of you truck..ext cab, 4x4,etc...

I will probably go for an ext. cab, 4x4,z71,3.73 lim slip rear, 4.8l, manual trans, short box...and a few more goodies.

This will be my first new vehicle and wish to get a good deal.

    Good luck

    Bob,
I didn't get anything fancy it's a standard cab with a long bed V-6 auto with air, it's pretty utilitarian and not much different from the 90 Chevy Work Truck I have now. To buy it I went directly to the dealer told them what I would pay and was out of there in about an hour. I tried using gmbuypower.com and I had a real bad experience with Pine Belt Chevy in Lakewood. It seems the trucks they have listed on GM's site aren't always the ones they really have. I had the distinct feeling they were either trying to pull a bait and switch on me, or they are completely unorganized. And after the way I was treated they would have to go way below invoice to get me to buy a truck, but thats another story. By the way the dealer in Flemington is on route 202 not 22. Hope this info is helpful and good luck with your new truck.
