vibrations or porpoiseing, no clunking in seats,
so far so good, handles great and i am very satisfied with it so far. let me know when you get your truck. jim k.
I bought a 2WD LT Ext. Cab in Pewter. Ordered it in mid-Sept 1998 and got it just before Christmas. The deal was $300 over invoice w/o much haggling.
The dealer later told me that the only LTs they'd gotten in 1998 were specially ordered by customers.
Still looking for the replacement locking tailgate handle to go with my rolltop cover. I don't buy that story about the gov't forcing GM to drop it from their accessories catalog (sorry huntman). If that were correct, since almost all of the accessories offered by GM are availbale aftermarket as well, they couldn't sell much of anything for THE TRUCK. I haven't given up yet.
I don't like the Pop-N-Lock setup- what a pain to remove that little cover every time you open the gate. The powerbolt from Pace-Edwards might be OK ($100 installed), but I am concerned that it might fail if the handle were pulled hard.
320 bucks. Get ready to rumble!! ordered mine today
Oh, well. In the scheme of things it probably doesn't matter much. An extra few hundred on a truck costing $27,000 really isn't a bug deal.
Now if I knew an employee ...
Richard
(I'm getting either black or peuter)
Where I live, there's only one Chevy dealer in town. This is where I purchased my current truck, a '96 2500.
When my lease came up, I wanted to get an LS 2500. They wanted $6,000 over invoice!!! A few weeks later they called me and offered $2,000 over invoice. I offered $1,000 over, and they wouldn't go for it.
I wound up keeping my '96 (took the purchase option at lease end). Just as well, because I'm trying to decide if I want a diesel or not in my next truck (in which case, Chevy isn't an option).
Best of luck
Huntman
No need to be envious. Just keep shopping! They can't sell anything without buyers. Even if they are charging $2000 over invoice, someone must be paying, or they go out of business. Remember, buyer has all the power. Walk in there with the money and watch them salivate!
bdon,
I saw a beautiful Dark Carmine Red over Sunset Gold Metallic two tone, with medium oak interior. Why not have your cake and eat it too?
For true dual exhaust you have to have dual cats also. By the way, the Hypertech firmer shift points are hard on the transmission wet clutches. I have used it on my Z28. That, and the power tuning is worth a tenth or two at the track, but I went back to soft shifts to save my tranny.
Does the 5.3 have only one?
the 6.0 also has the MT-1 heavy-duty trans. So it should handle the firmer shifts. I'am replacing everything from the cats back with dual split-side exits. Looking for some AWESOME exhaust tips .
All this says is that we are at the mercy of the individual dealers or the individual sales people. It is not a Chevy, GMC, Ford or Dodge thing. You get good ones and bad ones. So it goes...
Not saying I told you so, but....
Congrats!
The only conclusion I can come up with is: 1 they a protecting their allocaton by shopping around the other dealerships. 2. They have no allocation. Or, 3. They thought I wasn't serious and they would wait me out.
In fact when I canceled out the order, they (the dealer) still hadn't received the order, or received a preference, so they said.
The GMC dealer told me that there just are no Sierras for stock available in the entire southeast region. The trucks are being sold as soon as they are taken off the transport.
I had been to this particular GMC dealer before, but decided to go to Chevy first. That's my first mistake. However, I'm happy that the GMC dealer gave me the allocation and build date as fast as it did. I couldn't believe it would only take 4 days from the first visit until I walked out the door with the allocation and build date in my hand. Now it's just the waiting to contend with. I just hope my trade-in makes it til then.
So how did the Chevy and GMC compare price wise? Did you get somewhere near invoice on the order? I had went by the local GMC dealer yesterday (here in Albuquerque) and thought maybe I would give them a shot at my business. The way I see it is price is about the only bargining point as between my business going to the Chevy dealership or the GMC place, that is unless I feel like the Chevy place is treating me like they treated you and then I would go to the GMC place.
I plan on ordering within the next few weeks. I still want to go drive a 1500 with bucket seats to see if I want to go that route. Any feedback on this or other issues would be appreciated. I am planning on the 1500, 4x4, towing package, Z-71, 5.3l engine, automatic, autotrac. As I said above I don't much care as between Chevy/GMC. I will likely choose the LS or SLE trim level.

Please keep us posted.
Just to let you know the Silverado and the Sierra are built on the same assembly line!
Chevy and Gmc trucks come down the same [non-permissible content removed]. line. We get chevy trucks that will have a gmc horn pad on them or stickers will be on the wrong truck. They are exactly the same now. Didn't use to be long time ago but now they are the same. Sounds like the chevy dealer was a smuck.
Thanks in advance.
Second: I keep my back seat folded up most of the time and I was wondering if there are any good mats that would cover the whole back area, even under where the seat would be if it were down. Maybe even something with a lip, where I could throw my gear, boots, etc. Also, are there any quality carpet/rubber mats out there specifically designed for the '99 Silverado?
Check topic #624 There are a few of us with the noise you talk about! I am looking for the same Rubber mats for the rear area. Have not found them yet but Husky has mats for the new truck. I plan to call and see if it covers the whole area.

Black LT with Med. gray leather, towing package, locking 3.71 axle. High capacity air cleaner, even.
Dealer says it will take about 8 weeks. More time to buy things with my GM card ...
Thanks for the tip (I have bookmarked it's web page), and I will consider it. However, I would like to see other models and types before I make up my mind.
Does anyone know if an after market auxiliary tank is available for the Silverado (2500, ext cab, sb)? I could really use another 10 or so gallons for long trips and forays into the back country.
Ordered a Pewter over Gray two tone ½ ton Silverado 4WD LS equipped with a 5.3L, 3.73 rear end, Z71 and trailer'ing packages, as well as manual bucket seats, fog lights, and big tires. Got the bucket seats instead of the bench seat because the center part of the bench seat can't be moved and is therefore unusable except for small kids. My teenage son tried the center seat and his knees were in his face and he was sitting on the seat belt receptors. I tried it also and found it unbearable. The cup holders that attach to the dash also get in your way. My son decided that if he was going to ride in the truck it would be in the passenger seat or back seat and he wanted the rear vents the console had for when he was in the back seat.
Based on the squirming the sales manager did and the stories I've seen here, I think I got a decent deal. Am paying invoice plus about $500 plus sales tax. The $500 covers 1% advertising fee ($300) and $200 D&H fee. (I figure the D&H is profit for the dealer but I've heard the advertising fee really does go to the regional headquarters and not into the dealer's pocket.) Also have to pay $28 state registration fee. The state waits till you go to get your plates and then really sticks it to you for registration. Visited two different Chevy dealers on opposite sides of town (bought on return trip to the first one) with numbers in hand (invoice, holdback, MSRP) and had the deal done in about two hours including driving time. Fastest deal I've ever made on a new vehicle. Both dealers really wanted to order the truck for me.
Those plates are going to add about 400-500 bucks. Your deal works out about like mine was. The ad fee is added to their invoice. They do have to pay it, but it gets passed along to us. Welcome to Colorful Colorado! Hope you got it from Burt!

Good luck.
We must be thinking alike. Since this is a NEW truck I thought the extended warranty would be a good investment. I got some prices and took them with me when I picked up my truck. The GM Major Guard plan is about 25% higher than most of the others like Warranty Direct. While completing the paperwork in the finance guy's office he pitched the GM plan. When I mentioned the others he said most dealers would not honor them because of the way they pay and the prices they set. I asked him if this dealer would and he said they only honor the GM plan. The service manager affirmed this. The finance guy said he would take $200 off of any of the 6 year plans. The 72/60 plan was $1015. Less $200 would be $815. That plan would cover my truck during payoff plus 1 year. I told if he would give it to me for $700 I would take it and he said OK. When I got the paper work and warranty card from GM in the mail it was for the 72/100 plan. Hope it's their goof and not just a typo. More importantly I hope I never have to use it!
What it didn't include was the little pigtail that connects under the dash plug to my brake controller. It is a little plastic plug that all Silverados have mounted just above the parking brake, and just below the plastic dash. My parts guy can't seem to find it to order it........
Anybody get one of these pigtails with their truck. Have a part number?
(Every Ford I have purchased comes with this pigtail when ordering a trailer)
That'll give me a starting point for my negotiations next week. If they give me any flak I can tell 'em that I know someone who got 72/100 for $700.00 and surely they don't want another dealer to undercut their price! Still a lot of money but I just don't like the idea of being out of warranty while I'm still making those payments! Just about any little problem and you've made your money back. Where is your dealer?
Best of luck and let's hope that money's wasted!
