Were you just being an ignorant consumer when you bought your '96 Blazer? Or did the American automakers not have to go as far to "adapt" to the Euro/Japan competition in '96?
Looking for the best deal available for the Tundra- Im looking for V8, 4wd, Access Cab, poss. ltd/trd. MSRP+2500 is the best Ive done so far, in limited search. Did somebody say List +$1000?
That tindra has got no haul at all. Test drove that one they call the limited. Thats not V8 power! Drive a Chevrolet and do a compare. There is no haul on that tindra. You haul, you break it. They say haul not even covered on the warranty! Its a toy for a boy. Get ya the full size haulin one from Chevrolet.
First, why are you posting on this site. You dont have a tundra or even interested in buying a tundra. This site is for constructive comments and criticisms regarding the tundra specifically. The whole ford vs. chevy vs. tundra has been beaten to death. If you are satisfied with your chevy, fine. I believe that the toyota has the ability to tow to its stated capacity without any difficulty at all (despite its drive shaft size, blah, blah, blah). I also believe that the toyota's reliability will prove to be better than those offerings from the big 3.-----By the way, why in the heck cant chevy figure out how to make 4 doors in timely fashion----questions of structural reliability being a reason for its delay is embarassing for gm.
Well, I read your response that slipped in while I was typing my last comment.
Regarding the toyota's "haul". My opinion is that the 4.7 liter V8 is, by far, the smoothest engine I have ever driven. Its power is seamless. Seems as torquey if not more so than the 5.3 liter of GM and shifting is barely noticeable.
The Ford 5.4 liter is the closest comparison to the toyota in terms of smooth operation, etc.
No doubt, all of these engines are fine, but the toyota can easily "haul" up to 7100 lbs without difficulty.
If you haul a tindra it will break. Not an opinion just a fact. Haul it yourself, but you have been warned. That limited some say will break the quickest. What say?
Only educated people buy quality product. Others buy to fit their political image and because they have the money to throw away. And others buy because it is the white thing to do.
I like that www.tundraoutlet.com too, but they only service the NW of the country. Good thing we have that dealer in Marshal, TX that can service the Texas, Arkansas area.
Well, you Tundra guys have finally convinced me! The Tundra is as big and comfortable as its competition. . .oh, and it is superior in every other way including looks! (wince)
And in case some chevy nut brings it up, IT CAN PROBABLY OUT-CORNER A CORVETTE TOO!
Quad, It was a '95 Blazer and YES it was IGNORANT(stupid is a better description) to buy it. Especially after swearing I'd never buy a Chevy again after owning an '89 S10. I regret having bought it and vow never to own another one(unless some miraculous changes take place). Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, no way...I'll take the Toyota. You will learn your lesson also! Trust me.
My Zaino polish arrived today. Would you two like to come over and help me detail the Tundra? I'll even let you drive it. Just be careful with the throttle...it may get away from you!
They have no haul in em. If you want to break it, then do the haul, it will break quick now. You pay alot for one with no haul. Get the Chevrolet for the haul, the toy for breakage. Lets here from those who haul? Heard they break quick on first haul so watch it now. That's not full size, its more like dakota, only fragile. Just don't do the haul, then trade em quick before the word gets out. Good luck now.
How can a truck like that work for you if it's in the shop or being recalled, or on fire like the late 80 and early 90 tranny problems. You must really be disappointed with your truck or you wouldn't be spending so much time here. How long is it going to take the "big boys" to get it right. Is that why you're on this site? Trying to learn something? I never go to the GM or Ford or Chrysler sites, I couldn't care less what any of you guys have to say about those rattle traps, so again, why are you here? Like blue boy says "can't go, no tow, big blow." I'll type slower if it will help. Zing back.
That limited one has no tow. If you tow it will break quick. No haul, now no tow. Sure its a truck? Not the right size, to small for a truck. Needs a V8 not some lexzy engine. What is a lexzy anyway? Heard that lexzy engine build in Mexico, that explains much.
Well since you've admitted to ignorance in the past, you can't be faulted now for not owning 4 wheel disc brakes, locking axle, tow/haul mode, or a factory trailering package. Did you know that the heavier Silverado stopped 6 feet shorter than Tundra, and accelerates as quickly when carrying a #1000 pound load? Or that Silverado has a tighter turn radius? Gets better EPA gas mileage with its V8's? Pretty good for a full size truck. Technology works! (P.S. Wonder how it would have turned out with a #2000 pound load?)
Good point, no want haul whole family and all belongin' when need run from car possessor. Stick with chevy, hard to find in sea of crap on highway. You be spotted in a shiny Tundra and maybe scratch metallic pearl bed with big dog in back with grandma. The limited has no toe?, some fok'l never loose a tow but then again some fok'l like rubluetooooooo - - the slack jaw yok'l...NO TOE!
Hey Boy, I hear you can take a big load in your rear. Is that right? Bet some guys down at the prison would like to put a big load in your rearend. Do you like saying "chevy hauls, chevy hauls, chevy hauls", while getting that no stumpy tail-end of yours filled to the brim?
Why in the heck have you wasted your time on this site when you evidently own a chevy. Do you not have anything better to do than to try and convince yourself and others that you made the right choice. Surely you would be happier on a chevy board where you can stroke your own as well as others egos.
No....the tundra is not quite as big and no it does not have the things that you mentioned, but that does not mean that the tundra is bad or that the chevy is better than the tundra. It will still do all the work of the chevy just as well and without as much reliability worries. At least they had the know how to incorporate 4 doors right away. GM has yet to produce one and when they do it supposedly will cost extra!?!?!? That should be STANDARD.
I think 'powercat' hit the nail right on the head. Why are these Chevy lovers here. I think they may have some regrets about their purchase. I know I do not visit the Ford, Dodge or Chevy sites. I, too, could care less what they have to say, good or bad, I love my Tundra, have had it over three months, have over 7100 miles on it and really enjoy driving it.
As far as 'rubluetoo' is concerned, he is loser that is just trying to stir up trouble. We should just ignore him, soon he will dry up and blow away.
Every vehement anti-Tundra buffoon I encounter on these boards convinces me further that I made the correct choice in buying my loaded black SR5 4x4.
The very fact that they dedicate so much time here spreading false rumors (e.g. fire hazards, exploding axles, etc.), sowing discontent over pricing (e.g. watching my pocketbook for me when $30k for them may be the equivalent of $500 for me.), and generally acting like patriotically-wounded character asassins over a Japanese company's early efforts to invade the American full-size market (read: penis envy) with a damn-good quality product proves that the Tundra is indeed a winner.
Consider: Raiders fans just hate the Niners because their team has been a crappy, often-homeless team with a flawed history, where the Niners have been blessed with success...
...Which is precisely what goes on here with Domestic rubes attacking Tundra owners.
Compare the Chevrolet to the tindra, side by side. That tindra won't do the haul now will it? How bout that limited one? The tindra is just a dinky one when you do the compare. How bout that t100 now? That was a good one too! I mean no attack on the tindra owner, I was just doin the compare on the trucks, and the facts are facts on this one. If I have offended any owners of that tindra then I apologize, but for discussion on that tindra, it just won't do a haul and people should know this first. Get the Chevrolet for the haul, tindra if smaller one is your need.
I DO own a vehicle with 4-wheel disc brakes. I have NO need for a locking axle...and I suspect you don't either. Chevy trannys SUCK(my 95 Blazer proved it). The tow/haul mode is just something else to break on your Chevy. My Tundra has a slick Reese hitch and wiring harness that will do all I need it to do. You obviously have buyer's remorse. No other reason for you to be in our topic. Maybe you can trade UP to a Tundra for your next vehicle and cure your illness.
Let me just say that I just ordered my Tundra two days ago and can't wait to get it.
But as far as I'm concerned Bobby Joe (rubluetoo) has as much right to state his opinion on this site as myself, a Tundra owner (let's not forget which country we live in).
He has stated stuff that I didn't know: when I get my truck, I'll measure the drive line to see if he is right about the thickness of the driveshaft; Bobby Joe, I promise you will be the first to know if I snap my driveshaft.
I've waited for the Tundra for over a year. Earlier this year I almost bought a Chevy, until I noticed that there was only one rear door. I have two kids, and I am NOT going to try to buckle up one of my sons from the other side of the cab.
The lack of the forth door shows the lack of innovation of American auto engineers.
- Bobby Joe you keep posting your opinion here: This is America!!!
Thats the good one now! A Reese on that tindra is a waste of a good Reese. Your gonna break that toy, not nearly enough haul in that tindra for the Reese. Soon to be broke when you haul with the Mexican built Lexzy engine. Is that one the limited? Here tell that the limited breaks on the first haul. Best of luck on this one.
If you need one for the haul you can order that 4 door Chevrolet now. Its a looker, do the compare over and under. That tindra just not gonna cut it if you need the real truck. Go on down to that Chevrolet dealer, cut yourself a deal on one. You will regret that tindra when it breaks out from under you, leaving you and yours stranded.
Bobby Joe, Just checked the GM web site. I didn't see an option for the 4th door. Are you sure about it? Why would you make a 4th door an option anyway?
If I'm going to buy GM, the only GM I would buy is a GMC.
Back on comment #416 a former Toyota dealership employee stated that he had seen a lot of head gaskets replaced on the 3.4L V6. According to him besides the Tundra, this engine is also used in the 4Runner and the Tacoma. Does anyone else know of or have an opinion on this? If true, has this been fixed on the current 3.4L V6 engines?
I am still waiting on my Autobytel dealer to quote a SR5 Tundra. Not really sure what to expect. It looks like SR5 discount can range anywhere from $1000 to $3000 off msrp. These trucks are no longer hard to find and there is no reason to pay anything near msrp! Some of the posts mentioning $$$ over msrp must be Toyota dealers. Has anyone purchased their Tundra through Priceline.com? You configure the vehicle and post what you are willing to pay. I will give it a try if the Autobytel quote is a disappointment.
If you are so happy with your stupid Shitvrolet, why are you doing in a Toyota Tundra website? I ve been in the internet for more than three years, and never stopped to see a Shitvrolet website. I dont like Chevys, I hate them.
You know, I originally was considering buying the chev around march but really wanted 4 doors (or at least the 3rd on the drivers side). I still think that it is a fine truck and compares very favorably to the ford and dodge.
However, the tundra rides and drives more like a car but fulfills my truck needs which includes light hauling and medium duty towing (5-6000 lbs). At the same time I really believe that I will be more comfortable with its projected reliability.
To pcheng: You are absolutely correct about rebluetoo's right to post here. I just wish that he/she would say something more constructive than he is
Question: I was originally gonna purchase a limited until I saw an sr5 with aftermarket wheels. There was a huge improvement in appearance over stock size. Now Iam considering ordering an sr5 with the base radio and base wheels in order to replace them with aftermarket. Does anybody know anything about aftermarket wheels for tundra (sizes, compatibility, etc).
Bobbie Joe, What do you mean "clean that up, lets keep it between the trucks". Are you some kind of pervert or something? All I was asking about was how big a load you can take before you break.
Here is a question for you Tundra owners. Does the 60/40 Bench Seat have adjustable seat backs? Would like to know cause my order goes in next week. Thanks in advance.
I suspect that light haul for that tindra fine. Just watch it close, as not to break it quick. You are correct on that car like ride. Get the tindra for the ride, the Chevrolet if haul is a factor.
I'm to tired of hauling to look back at all the posts....who was the one with the problem getting the door panel off for the aftermarket speakers? Did you get it off? What are you installing????need details....any ideas on subs????
Thanks for the site rebluetoo, now my suspicions as to what really goes on in a Chevy owners head are confirmed. Tundra owners alert: Steer clear of those broken down Chevy's, Fords and Dodge's on the HW. Unless'n you got a perty mouth.
This is funny reading! I thought this was for info about the Tundra. What is all this chevy stuff? Oh well ... I guess I'll weigh in. I own a 93 T-100 4X4 and in the past 5 years it has been in the shop twice. Toyota replaced the motor free of charge because of a defective head gasket that had ruined 1 cyl. Also, a part went out in the starter. That is all. My wife's Firebird Formula had to have service twice in the past two weeks (head light door motor and parking brake lever)and we just bought it 3 weeks ago. She likes it anyway because of the horsepower so oh well. I drove a new 99 extended cab 4X4 Chevy and in my humble opinion, the ride is not as sure or smooth as my 93 T-100. Especially on rough pavement. Yep it is a little bigger than the Tundra. Probably has a tougher body as well. There are more options available. If you haul bed loads of rocks and gravel on a regular basis or if you need to take 4 adults .. get the Chevy/GMC. If you want a great ride, customer service, and don't want to see yourself coming and going every where you look ... get the Toyota. And prices are comparable. As far as the dealerships go, my dealer has a great service department (the 2 times I had to use it anyway) but their sales staff is kind of hard to get along with. No matter, there are lots of dealerships to shop! Truck on!
Rube, Exactly what language are you speaking? How many times can somebody actually use the phrase "the haul" in one sentence? It's either a total act, or just downright scary.
Did ya the haul and lost an engine. Told you that toy will break on the haul, maybe now folks will take heed on this one. Was it that limited one spoke on earlier? Bet it was. Franklin saids it broke fast on the first haul, and Franklin know his trucks well. Is that one true? That tindra has the car like ride and the car like (no) haul. Sounds like the truth is coming out on that breakage to! Sell em quick before the word gets out. If you want the haul, get that Chevrolet, its the looker now!
I'm speaking whats called American, same as that Chevrolet birth place now. What part of the breakage you not clear on? I will explain in great detail:
1) haul with that limited one 2) get yourself new lexzy engine
Franklin tells that lexzy V8 is built in Mexico, and Franklin knows his trucks now. I think that explains most of it.
Take a good look at the driveshaft on the tindra. Do the compare to a Chevrolet. Thats all I'm askin. If its got the haul in it then why do they keep breakin quick? I mean no insult to the tindra owner, just talking the facts here. Tryin to get the word out to others who should hear the facts first, then do the compare for themselves.
Here are the facts on that tindra gleaned by my buddy Franklin who know them trucks well.
Customers words not mine:
A look at the Tundra’s dimensions indicates that, while it sits on a 6.5-inch longer wheelbase and stretches out 8.4 inches longer than the "mid-size" T100 it replaces, it’s closer in size to the Chevrolet S10 than a Chevrolet Silverado. Toyota calls the Tundra a full-size and wants you to think of it as full-size, but it’s really a slightly larger mid-size pickup.
I would recommend the Tundra but not if you plan to tow alot. I really like the way it handles. I had a 89 Legend LS that was lowered a couple inches to improve the handling and looks and I was amazed by how well the Tundra handled for a truck.
It's reliable - but a bit of a wimp!
The Tundra is underpowered and is difficult to have stay in cruise control in hilly country. It's a bad matchup of low power and auto transmission that also results in (relatively) poor gas mileage. 16-21mpg.....the 21 is the result of lots of downhill travel, ie, going east from New Mexico. Other than that, it's reliable, well suspended, and has a great sound system. Not bad looking either.
I like it alot, but wish it had more power (bigger engine)
Great design and smooth reliability on and off road. Needs more power and the guage of sheet metal the body was made with is slightly tougher than aluminim foil.
Love the vehicle, hate the dealer.
It's ok. Gets me to work and back. Needs to be more roomy because i tend to live in my truck-driving 60 miles one-way to work each day.
I like my truck quite alot - The only thing I wish is that it had more engine power. It has so far been very dependable, and seems well put together (built).
IT'S OK, BUT THE BODY IS CHEAP AND WILL BUCKLE EASILY. PLUS THE AIR CONDITIONING SUCKS.
A good fit for my recreational needs and reasonable for my daily needs. I could use a greater towing capacity. I like it a lot.
My Tundra has some truly bizarre transmission problems. Probably if I could take it to a real mechnaic instead of the dealership bozos, I might have the problem corrected. Off-road it is a gem, smooth and reliable and it scares people in the city.
Like Toyota reliability. Would like bigger engine. Have 2 other cars, why don't you ask about those?
It sucks!!! Had a 95 T 100, never a problem. This Tundra, 4,000 miles and been back to the dealer for a vibration problem that they have been trying to solve by balancing the tires. It's been back 6 times. LEMON!!! The rotors were turned at 3,000 miles for being out of "specifications". The AC fan makes a sound I can't describe. The driver's window rattles when lowered an inch or so in hot weather. THIS IS TOYOTA QUALITY?????
Comments

Of course, you know that the limited is no different in chassis and drivetrain than the sr5.
The only thing that needs to be said is that your point is well taken and you need not post anymore.
