Youngs service on Main St. in Wharton was 1.08 for regular. The same price at the BP one block away on the same street.

Dont feel so bad up here in Alaska we are still paying $1.57 a gal and we have more oil than we know what to do with. British Petroleum (BP) was trying to defend their price gouging up here by saying that because the market up here is so small they have to charge more for gas, this morning on the radio the DJ called some little town in Oklahoma that has one gas station and 350 people their gas was $1.05. Hopefully the gas prices up here will drop sometime soon.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Hey, a fellow Alaskan!!! I know what you mean about gas prices, I just filled my Jeep up this morning in Nenana and it was 1.819 for reg unleaded.......ouch!! Normally I fill up in Fairbanks, but its still spendy. I can't understand why we pay so darn much, I mean we have the oil right here. Oh well, gotta love livin' in Alaska.
  • cyranno99cyranno99 Member Posts: 419
my guess is that you don't have an oil refinery nearby... besides... you make a significantly higher salary in Alaska anyway so don't complain :p
  • lariat1lariat1 Member Posts: 461
We have a refinery right next to us, the oil company just likes to stick it to us, also we do not get paid any more up here than people do down south. I heard this morning that Alaskan crude is down to $15 a barrel, the last time oil was that cheap was 1999, the price for a gallon of gas up here then was $1.20 which leads me to ask why is it $0.40 more per gallon now I dont think inflation has been running around 30 percent has it? Up here we are trapped and at the oil companies mercy.
  • cyranno99cyranno99 Member Posts: 419
Geez.. and I thought the cold was your only problem... yeah, I wonder what Bush will do with the oil reserves. He wants to increase the amount in stock to the number 8 years ago... hmmmm
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Amen to that. I filled up at Fred Meyer this afternoon......$1.499/gallon, not too horrible but still high.
  • lariat1lariat1 Member Posts: 461
Wow the price finally came down, its about time. I still think gas should be around $1.10 a gallon at the most.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I agree, I think gas prices here in Alaska are nuts. I just traded a 2001 Jetta GLS 1.8T for a 98 Grand Cherokee........30 mpg vs 18 mpg, BUT I don't have to pay 1.789/gal for premium unleaded anymore.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
regular is still $1.359-1.459 in the north side of Chicago; if you leave Cook County, the price is lower; if I lived on the southeast side, I'd buy in Indiana, it's typically 30-50 cents cheaper.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
On the way to mom's (never made it, really bad fog), I bought gas in Lowell, IN (~60 miles SE of Chicago):

    $1.099 87 octane
    $1.199 89 octane
    $1.299 93 octane

Southern New Jersey, Regular unleaded $0.979 per gallon. And full service.
  • mykemmykem Member Posts: 203
That gas prices will soon be as low as 80 cents in some states.

and 'even with the high taxes imposed in Illinois, prices might fall to under one dollar.'

Supposedly this is to happen this week. Happy Thanksgiving.

$1.249, 1.349 and 1.449 in Aurora (DuPage), IL.

I have crazy IL, Cook County AND City of Chicago taxes. I would be happy paying $1.25 at this point.
  • cyranno99cyranno99 Member Posts: 419
Well.... I definitely don't mind lower gas prices ....

Wall Street is also happy about falling energy prices. Cheaper oil and gas bills mean consumers, whose spending accounts for two-thirds of the economy, have more money to spend on other goods and services

today saw the lowest around $1.07 for reg--$1.17 for mid grade--my 300M runs on low test, but I use the midgrade for slightly better performance and gas mileage

1 dollar a US gallon at the pumps around here but when you take into account lots of that is imported from from the middle east the true cost must be astronomical. R Fruth Houston

I hear that. We just went to Anchorage today and it was hanging right about the same as Fairbanks, although diesel was quite a bit less at $1.299. I swear these prices are nuts.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I can only think of one station on the north side of Chicago you can even buy it.
  • lariat1lariat1 Member Posts: 461
I didnt understand that either diesel is $0.40 cheaper in Anchorage than it is in Fairbanks.....strange, BTW on the way home I had to wait for a train headed for Anchorage loaded with gas.

After jumping up to $1.079 a gallon for 87 octane about a week before Thanksgiving, prices have gone back down to $ .999 a gallon at the Quik Trip on the corner.
