From what I can find, we have 296 CNG buses.

Apparently, Arizona law mandates alternative-fuel buses only.

Bill Shaeffer, executive director of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition, calls the Phoenix area “a hub of clean-fuel use,” with 20 million gallons of alternative fuel used annually. Nearly all Valley Metro buses run on LNG. Scottsdale runs its entire fleet of trucks and ambulances on biodiesel. Sky Harbor Airport has the largest CNG fueling station in the U.S. The police departments of Phoenix and Mesa currently run a majority of their vehicles on CNG.

Then your mass transit statements good.

    I think we disagree.

Which cars will be gotten off the road? People driving economical Civics? Sequoias at 12 mpg? Insert your favorite car from each class. If the economical, clean cars are the ones off the road, macht nichts. I'm not sure that your syllogism is true.

    We disagree.

    think we disagree

I doubt it. If my guess is right I would say it is the cheapo high mileage cars that are left at home for a ride on the bus. If your place is anything like it is here in San Diego the streets and highways are jammed with big SUVs and PU trucks. About half are lifted with tons of bling bling. Makes you feel real vulnerable even driving around in an LS400 Lexus. I would not drive a Civic sized car on our freeways. Too scary for me.
  • larsblarsb Member Posts: 8,204
Even if it's fuel efficient Civics getting replaced by bus transit, a CNG bus with 4 passengers is cleaner than 4 gasoline-fueled Civics.

    CNG buses are rated SULEV.

One CNG bus produces about 23 tons of GHG a year.

A gasoline Civic by itself produces 6.3 tons.

    Four Civics is 25.2 tons.

Let's not even compare about if 4 Sequoias were replaced by mass transit.

Why don't we just admit I'm right and move on? :):)

peruse. Here in hot and dusty little Willcox, AZ, the highest price for 87 no-lead is $3.19/gal at the Standard Chevron. The low price today in Willcox is $3.10/gal. at Mustang gas station.

The current national average is $3.21/gal for 87 no-lead.

The lowest price nationally right now for 87 no-lead is in San Antonio, TX, and that is $2.39/gal. The highest price in the nation right now is at Needles, CA and that price is $4.09/gal for 87 no-lead. Ouch!

    $3.29
    $3.39
    $3.49

    Diesel is holding at $2.99

I almost filled up but decided to wait and see if it drops a few cents after the holiday gets going. Plus this time of year I try to go a full month between tanks and I last filled up on 4/27 so I'm a couple of days early. :shades:
  • larsblarsb Member Posts: 8,204
The lowest price reported by www.sanantoniogasprices.com is $2.85.

If there is a station there selling it for $2.39, I bet they have a line of cars around the block for that price !!!

Where'd you find the page that listed those low and high prices?
  • stuckinohiostuckinohio Member Posts: 26
We're still at 3.49 for regular. E85 at the Troy Kroger was at 3.19. I'd certainly opt for that if I could.

try this link. It's MSN Autos-click on gas prices on the bottom right side of the page.

    http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=85643

You may need to configure it to your local zip code in order for it to calculate your local ghastly prices, larsb.

    Thanks for the link.

That explains it - It's a misprint on the MSN gas prices site.

    CITGO
    EZ MART # 582

    602 FLORIDA ST
    SAN ANTONIO, TX 78210

    Regular
    $2.399
    05/24/07

    Plus
    $2.999
    05/23/07

    Premium
    N/A

See the misprint? It should be $2.899 not $2.399 based on the Plus price, which is ten cents higher on most of the other stations on that page. Sixty cents difference in the 87 and the 89? Not possible.

Someone put a 3 when they wanted an 8. Misprint.

more hybrid GM buses around lately. I dunno how much they actually reduce pollution and fuel usage, but they're sure a lot quieter than the regular Diesel buses. Lot less stinky, too!

Now if they'd just do something about these damn school buses!
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
indeed it must be a mis-print. $2.39/gal for 87 no-lead seemed way too low for this late date, eh?

And from San Antonio no less? The place where the pushy Spurs basketball team comes from? Once more the Spurs have proven that thuggery will get you somewhere in the NBA playoffs. What a joke.

So I guess in comparison to the rest of the country, we're not doing too badly, as $2.99 87 is available here in Central VA.
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
no, you guys are below the national average of $3.21/gal for 87 no-lead, so you're doing pretty good over there.

$3.38 in Pullman, Mi. Fennville, I paid $3.75 for 93 V-Power today on my way to moms. Gas prices average in the $3.50 range for 87 from the Michigan, state-line to Grand Rapids. Cheapest gas I saw was in Missouri $3.19. Mom and I filled up the Impala. We averaged around 33 mpg all the way home. Dad got about 15 mpg in his 98' Chevy Z-71 truck pulling the U-haul trailer with my stuff in it.

    Rocky,
Wondered where you were hiding. That is great mileage on both vehicles. I would be tickled to get 15 MPG pulling a trailer cross country.

87 octane is "only" $2.849 in Salisbury (Smallsberry), Md., hub city of the Delmarva Peninsula, state of Delaware, Eastern Shore of Maryland, Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Price has held for about three or four days now.

Went to a graduation in Indy this weekend. Fuel prices were very similar to what I pay near home. Cheapest I saw was $3.39 at a station outside of Indianapolis but the average in Indy was $3.50. Not sure what the price was in downtown Indy as Carb Day and the rest was going on. Along I-65 the prices were running similar as well, $3.50-range for regular unleaded, dipping into the mid $3.40-range the farther south you went.

As a side note I think the fuel prices did have an effect on things this weekend as going and coming the interstates (I94-I80-I65) were dead-empty. I’ve NEVER seen these interstates as empty as I have for a holiday weekend, or non-holiday weekend for that matter. There were only a couple of spots where traffic was backed-up and both were due to construction on 94 and 80/94. And even during the traffic “jam” we were moving, never at a stand-still. Also, people were driving either at or a little higher than the speed limit (70mph). I was clipping along in the Explorer @ 70 ~ 73mph average, only speeding up to 75 or so to pass trucks/slower traffic. There were a few speed-demons out on Friday going down, and a couple on the trip back, but for the most part 70mph was the norm. Coming back it was more empty on the interstates and roadways. Usually coming back home I-80 is jammed from the time you get on from I-65 North all the way to Torrance Ave., but we breezed through there without so much as a hiccup. Even the Dan Ryan, with all the construction going on, was pretty open.

By me (home) it’s averaging $3.52 at the Citgos, Meijers and Jewels, with the BP, Mobil and Shells averaging $3.59.

Get this...At the top of the hill the independent station was charging $3.06 this week-end. At the bottom of the hill the Citgo was charging $3.19 for the same 87 octane grade. (Upstate NY)

Sounds like Hugo Chavas is sticking it in our eye for the holiday.

I doubt if the vast majority of drivers have any idea where Citgo gets their gas. Maybe if they get gas at 7-11 they know about it?

Holding at $3.29 in Boise at most spots - a few spots, like the Flying J truck stop, have regular at $3.24.

    South Central PA -
    $2.99 - $3.05 - Harrisburg area
    $3.05-$3.09 - York Area
    $3.02-$3.07 - gettysburg area

I filled up at the Sam's Club in York at $2.92 last Thursday. I'll have to go back there tomorrow. At $0.13 less then the average price in town, you can pay for your membership in a few fill-ups.

$47 even, at $2.99 per gallon for 87. Still not the highest per gallon paid. This was in my '04 Camry.

I'd hate to think about how much that dualie diesel F-350 pickup next to me would cost to fill.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I know the feeling - paid $54.29 to put 16.455 gallons in the minivan yesterday.

Regular is $3.299 here at the Chevron here.

Don't you love the way we're out to three decimal points now? :P

Well, my dually diesel Ram 3500 came in at exactly $77 at the above mentioned $2.679. 450 miles of mixed driving on that tank (25% city, 75% highway).

Local Costco selling regular at $3.17 the day after Memorial Day. The ARCO stations are dropping to $3.19.

Better get that new Expedition or Escalade while the prices are still low.

Gas prices have "plumetted" here in York, PA.

Regular unleaded has dropped to $2.95. And Sam;s Club is down to $2.89.
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,021
local Citgo is still holding at $3.119/$3.219/$3.299. I topped off my '85 Silverado last nite with 93. I had been putting 89 in it, but nowadays have been trying to alternate fillups between 87 and 93.

I had gone about 116 miles, and it took about 7.6 gallons to fill up. So I'm up to about 15.3 mpg. Yay. :P
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
It is going down almost as fast as it went up. Down to $3.11 today. That is 4 cents less than yesterday.

Last year it was $3.12 on 6/10/06 went to $2.99 on 6/26 before going back up around the fourth of July.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
87 can now be had for $2.89 at several places. Diesel is holding at $2.79 at the Sheetz station.

Well, crude was up today so who knows?

OPEC threatens to skyrocket the price of oil - seems they don't like the idea of ethanol. Talk about it over in the What will you do when gas price rises above $4 a gallon? discussion.

Boise is staying flat at $3.29 for regular.
  • tpetpe Member Posts: 2,342
That's an interesting position for OPEC to take. In the past when there was any threat from alternatives it seemed that OPEC just flooded the market with cheap oil and development of these alternatives was quickly abandoned. I believe this change in tactics or at least rhetoric is very significant. What I'm hearing is that OPEC no longer has the capacity to flood the market. With the exception of Saudi Arabia all the other countries are pretty much producing at their max.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
OPEC knows what you and I know. It takes as much oil to grow corn and produce ethanol as you get back, or darn close. So they cut oil and ethanol costs more to produce and the government tosses more money at the Mega Ag Corps to keep the price down. It is a case of who calls uncle first. I think OPEC has the upper hand. I still remember the lines at gas stations in 1973.

the other day, I noticed the local Shell station dropped its price for 87 a few cents, to $3.149, from $3.179. I don't know what Citgo's going for though. Last time I filled up there it was $3.119, but their new digital sign burned out a few days ago, and hasn't been fixed yet.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,669
$2.79 is low with $2.839 being the price in the area with usually the lowest gas prices along I75.

Prices dropped from the $3.499 fiasco price slower than they went up, but that's normal.

Why do I feel like I'm getting a bargain at $2.839 per gallon. What was the price one year ago with all the threat of terrible storms again devastating the oil rigs and refineries again--that didn't occur?

gasprices.com shows $2.79 to $2.60 as the price last June for the average across the area. I believe the price was substantially better in the war zone where I can usually fill up on an errand near the area.

Filled the Lexus at Costco today. 91 octane was $3.29 and regular down to $3.05. I expect a rise before July 4th. It is 7 cents cheaper than last year on this date.

"gasprices.com shows $2.79 to $2.60 as the price last June for the average across the area."

The way prices are dropping, is it out of the question they'll be in that neighborhood again in a couple of weeks?

BTW - I'll be in the Dayton (Springboro, OH) neighborhood for a couple of days next week...so batten down the hatches... ;)

Eastern Shore: $2.87 is the lowest, $2.89 is very common.
