Go to GOOGLE and type in GM OEM extended warranties or Chrysler OEM extended warranties. Plenty of good info out there. I had a Chrysler PT Cruiser and bought an OEM Chrysler warranty from a dealer in (I believe in Indiana) at a great discounted price. Hope this helps.

Which company did you use for the warranty?
  • penonepenone Member Posts: 11
I'm looking to get a 2007 lexus and noticed on the autotrader posts some of them say - "Vehicle sold as-is. Extended warranty available.". The particular car I am looking at is a Lexus 2007 with 19K miles. I thought that a factor warranty would transfer over until either the time or mileage runs out? Is this just a way for the dealer to get me to buy an extended warranty from them? Also, can I check with Lexus and see what is left on the warranty on that particular vehicle using the vin number?

    Thanks for any help.

Lexus has a 48 month or 50,000 "bumper-to-bumper" warranty that should transfer to you. This means that you have 31,000 miles or the balance of 48 months from when the car was bought. If the original owner bought it in Jan '07 you have coverage until Jan '11 or until the car has 50K miles. There is also a warranty on the powertrain (engine, transmission and drivetrain) until the vehicle has either 70K miles or 72 months from it's original in service date (1st owner).
If you are interested in extending the "bumper-to-bumper" portion of the coverage to match the powertrain (6yr/70k miles), you can purchase "wrap" coverage. This will cover everything except the powertrain (since the manufacturer is covering the powertrain) and is usually inexpensive.
Look on line for someone selling discount wrap coverage from either the manufacturer or a large bank or insurance company (if it's not the name of a huge company that you recognize like GMPP, GE, Allstate, Wachovia, don't buy it)
You have to buy it before the 3yr/36K coverage expires - hope that answers the question

    Thanks carnetguy!

So the part on the ad where it says:
    Warranty Information
    ✓ AS-IS
    ✓ EXTENDED WARRANTY AVAILABLE
This Vehicle is Being Sold "As-Is."

doesn't mean the car is out of warranty - it just means that they (meaning the car dealer) do not offer any additional warranty. Gotcha!

    Thanks!

I am buying a pre-owned '05 X5 from a private person and the warranty is still active till 60,000 miles or at the end of the 2009.

The seller mentioned that i can take this vechile to the any BMW dealer and get it Certified? Also, i guess the only place to get extended warranty for BMW is at the dealership?
  • carnetguycarnetguy Member Posts: 16
The manufacturers warranty is 48 mo or 50,000 miles. As long as the vehicle is within that period you can purchase a warranty at any number of online sellers. After the 48/50 runs out you have no coverage. Doubt that you can purchase a certification on a vehicle not sold by the dealer (it is a tool subsidized by the dealer to help him sell more cars). Some may sell bmw warranties online or you can look to save some $ by checking out reliable aftermarket companies like Wachovia/GE, Allstate, Zurich, etc.
Also you should check out when the car was bought. It could have been Jan of '05 in which case the car is already out of warranty

AS members of this forum will tell you,,Never ever ever buy a 3rd party aftermarket warr.these are worthless and dont cover anything. They are all rip offs and they nevver issue any claims.
Always buy a original manufacturer ext warr. ,,In your case buy a BMW ext warr issued by BMW.You can buy it online from any BMW dealer or you can buy it from your local BMW dealer.
Search BMW forums on Google and look for Ext warr in those.they have a dealer listing that sell BMW warr.
Again, never buy an aftermarket warr...Always buy Manuf warr..

commercials that Rusty wallace and his son are putting out for (I believe is U>S>Fidelity Warranty?? They are really pitching it.
Comments please. No, I am not buying one, just think it's amazing what people will do for $$$$$.

    U. S Fidelis has more than 1100 complaints with the BBB. It is structured so that it appears that Clark Howard endorses it. Shame on you, Clark, for doing nothing about these thieves who don't pay claims.

I would love to know how much Rusty wallace and son received and now that this info is out....how they feel about pitching their product??????

I recently bought a new Chrysler and as part of the F & I song and dance they offered me an EW for only $1395. (What a bargain). Just to be nice I said I would think it over and asked to see the details to review over night. The F&I guy ripped the cover page off the contract and handed it to me but nothing else.

Later I looked over this piece of paper (which had very hard to read fine print) and saw that some parts referred to other pages which the guy had not given me. Of particular interest was mention of "exclusions" which of course were on the pages not given to me.

I also noticed that nowhere on the paper was the name "Chrysler". This led me to believe that I was being offered a third party warranty not backed by Chrysler.

So my question is this: does Chrysler offer it's own extended warranty?

I've been offered EWs in the past and never had such a bad presentation. The F&I guy acted very hurt when I mentioned this but even if I had wanted an EW I would have never bought it from him.

I had purchased my 3rd warranty, 1--original, then I had an extended at the dealer, and then a 3rd. I paid $2600 for it over 2 years ago and have yet to need it. But I was reading today in my newspaper about a lady who took her car in for warranty work and found out she had NO warranty. it was Continental Warranty, the SAME one I had bought.
I got right on a phone number and found out some company(Royal Administrative Services) is paying out what is left on the warranty, but this company has been out of business over a year. Why do I have to lose that money and was never told? That is fraud isn't; it? What do I do about this?
I already have a nasty message about they better give me my money back as I never used the warranty and I was not told nor never would have been except if I went to the dealer for warranty claim. That is highway robbery.
    I need help .......................... Adelle
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Welcome to the club, many of us here have been burned by similar 3rd party warranty companies just like Continental. In my case, Warranty Gold did it to me. Your warranty company will or has gone bankrupt and you are fortunate to get anything back, I got nothing. In a bankruptcy case, you have limited options as the money is gone. Most likely, the crooks that started the company will eventually be back in business under another name. That's why no regular here will recommend any warranty other than a manufacturer backed one.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
As mikefm said,,3rd party aftermarket warr are worthless and deceitful. They never pay a darn thing, and their coverage is uselless with so many exclusions..Even Edmunds had a 3rd party warr company advertising,well-it went bust.
Never ever get a 3rd party warr..Always buy a manuf. warr which you can buy at any dealer of your make anywhere in the US or online at any new car dealer. What make and model do you have?
If you can cancel the warr, which I highly doubt ,go ahead and immediately do it.
My guess is that you are stuck with it and would not get any refund back from these crap 3rd party aftermarket warr.Good luck though..Keep contacting them and keep us posted..Hopefully you get something back.

Does Warranty Direct fall into the same old scam catagory? I see their ads on Edmunds and clam to have an excellent BBB record.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
    IMHO, Yes
  • carnetguycarnetguy Member Posts: 16
Scam is probably too strong a word - I would just say that if you aren't buying from the manufacturer, you should only buy what is essentially a promise from a company whose name you know.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
Edmunds had recommended an ext warr company before on their website. It went belly up.
The manuf warr is the best choice..See for example,,even after GM and Chrysler are in BK,the US govt has stepped in and will honor their warr. Can u imagine that happening with a 3rd party aftermarket ext warr?
IMHO,,all of these 3rd party warr are scams!!Too many exclusions and headaches!
  • carnetguycarnetguy Member Posts: 16
all good points - but doesn't it depend on who the 3rd party is? If the third party is a name you've naver heard of, the contracts are administered by someone else you've never heard of and also insured by someone you've never heard of - don't buy it!
If the agreement is with a multi-billion dollar company who has their name and reputation at risk like - Zurich, GE, Wachovia, Allstate etc., and like these companies are the marketer, administrator and insurer of the contracts, you are as safe or better than you are with a manufacturers warranty - and you will often pay a lot less for these as they don't necessarily have to be sold by the dealer who adds a huge markup.

U.S Fidelis sounds pretty good. commercial: Two guys with same repair are in shop, one paid $3,500 for a new transmission, the other guy with U.S Fidelis paid "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING". Plus it's endorsed by Randy Wallace the race car guy. :surprise:

Do a BBB.org search for US Fidelis. They are listed under 4 different names and they also are under investigation by the local Attorney General`s office.
I talked to them on the phone and they are the biggest scam around. You need to pay a deposit of $395 before even seeing the contract. And their prices are 2500-3500...Damn,that`s the price of a used car.And they were willing to cover me without inspection even after telling them out of curiosity that I have a very problematic car and a rebuilt transmission.Go Figure!
Stay away from all these aftermarket 3rd party warr. They are all scams and rip offs.An original manuf ext warr is the best!!! :shades:

They charge incredible amounts of money then never pay the claims.

I bought a used 2006 Toyota Sienna yesterday. It was purchased from an independent dealership and doesn’t have the Toyota Certified backing, though it checked out fine on the carfax and mechanic says it looks great. Anyways, I purchased an Extended Warranty from them, a company called Warranty Solutions which is backed by Wachovia – was this a good move? Since I didn’t purchase it from a Toyota dealer and it’s not certified, is it possible to purchase a Toyota warranty plan or should I feel safe with the Warranty Solutions or just cancel and not go with an extended warranty? The van has 46,000 miles..thanks!
  • carnetguycarnetguy Member Posts: 16
Warranty Solutions is Wachovia/Wells Fargo's service contract company purchased from GE a year or so ago. It is an extremely well capitalized company with an excellent record for paying claims quickly, at full retail amounts (some companies pay less than the full repair bill) and has the lowest recorded customer complaint ratio ( 3 of every 100,000 contracts issued ) of any aftermarket provider. So it's a good contract that will pay but it depends also on what level of coverage you purchased (5 star, 4 star, 3 star) and how much you paid. You can check prices on line at 5starwarranty.net to see if you got a good deal.
  • mitzijmitzij Member Posts: 613
You bought a service contract, not a warranty. It is a contract between you and Warranty Solutions for repairs that may or may not be needed on your vehicle. The contract you receive will tell you exactly what they do and do not pay for. It does not work the same as the Warranty a new car comes with. If (or when) Warranty Solutions goes bankrupt, you have no recourse. If (or when) you dispute a denied claim, you have little recourse.

With a service contract, you're basically betting that your car will need more in repairs than the amount you paid for the contract. The service contract company is betting otherwise. They set the price, who do you think wins this bet more often than not?
  • carnetguycarnetguy Member Posts: 16
never mind looking up pricing - you can only buy them on line if the car is under the original 3/36 manufacturers warranty.
  • psumommyof2psumommyof2 Member Posts: 18
Thanks - in reading more on this forum, I have gone ahead and cancelled the service contract I purchased and will be recieving a full refund credited to my loan - I would rather use already established savings to pay for any car repairs that might come up then take a chance with this contract that would probably wind up being more of a headache anyways. Thanks for your advice.

This is a an article about US Fidelis and a class action suit filed against them.
    They are thieves.
  • nortsr1nortsr1 Member Posts: 1,060
I have to totally agree with you and yet...there is honest John (Rusty Wallace and his son) on damn near every TV Channel pitching about how this guy or that guy saved thousands of dollars by having the US Fidelis Warranty.
It is a disgrace to the American public to allow ads like this and pitchmen like him on TV, radio or whatever!!!!

I bought a 2005 Lacrosse cerified with a GM 12/12000 0 ded bumper to bumper. When this is about to expire what should i do?It has 39,000 on it when bought 9-10-09 i average abought 10,000 a year.Should i go back to the GM dealer and extend or is there a good afeter market? My last car was from carmax warrant 1700.00 for 80,000 or 7 yrs 50.00 ded and it was exellent.Any ideas guys ? Thanks Al

I have noted some (to me) extremely disparaging posts re this firm. My very recent experience has been a very positive one.

On a 2001 VW Cabrio both front window regulators had broken w/in a month, and there were two semi-expensive repairs required to get the Check Engine Light to stay reset.

To make it short the bill at an independent was $ 1720.
It was paid without a whimper. The repair shop handled all
the calls, I paid him, and my Warranty Direct check arrived
    in about a week.

The only oddity was that they did not pay the Florida
Sales Tax, but this was disclosed early on in the process.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
    Hi,
So you had warranty coverage on an 8 year old, almost 9 year old car ? How many miles did your VW have? Highly unusual to have any warranty coverage on an 8yr/9yr old car unless its a Hyundai/Kia 10yr/100k mile Powertrain warranty. And how much and when did you pay for the Warranty Direct warranty? Thanks.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
Also Warranty direct says it covers powertrain warranty even up to 199999 miles.I checked a quote for a 2000 VW Cabrio with 92k miles for warranty coverage. It came back as Powertrain warranty up to 5yr/100k miles more for $1750.That is, upto year 2014 and 192k miles..that is ridiculous. No reputable warranty company will cover upto 192k miles.Just goes to show that all these 3rd party aftermarket warr companies are worthless ,piece of crap which absolutely do not pay any claims and just rip people off.
As suggested here before, always always buy an original manufacturer backed Extended warr.Even after GM and Chrysler went bankrupt, the govt. backed their warr. Will it ever happen with an aftermarket warr??Hell,never..
So buy only a manuf. backed ext. warr.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
Her`s a link from AOL autos as to why manuf. ext warr are the best and the aftermarket ones are worthless.

    what should i do?

Well, the Lacrosse has excellent reliability ratings. So, I wouldn't worry about buying an extended warranty. If you absolutely have to have one, try to get one through G.M/your dealership. Most people here suggest staying away from aftermarket/3rd party warranties.

    I would go with www.warrantyelite.com

Do you by any chance work for/represent them?
Please forgive the direct question, but that's usually the case when someone starts praising and promoting a particular provider the very first day they sign up at Edmunds. If you go back and read the posts in this discussion, you'd notice a couple of things: all the regulars would recommend nothing but a manufacturer's Extended Service Plan; second, there have been continuous attempts by people who sign up and start praising a particular company pretending to be extremely satisfied customers. Sometimes to the point that it's just entertaining...

The product is backed by an "A rated " Insurance carrier

    So was Warranty Gold's

Their coverage is more comprehensive than The GMAC "Major Guard" product
    So was Warranty Gold's

They have an A rating by the BBB...
So did Warranty Gold  ...
I hope you see where I'm going...

Nothing wrong to believe in your company/product and promoting it, but it's against the rules here, even if done subtly. This way you'll attract the Hosts' wrath.

You register today and have 4 posts on Warranty elite.Get real dude. All aftermarket ext warr are crap.Warranty Gold was AAA+++ rated even by BBB..Look what happened..there is no doubt that you work for Warranty Elite and soliciting is not permitted on Edmunds. No wonder aftermarket warr like these rip people off and scam them into giving their money for worthless, piece of junk. Probably the mods will get busy here !! ;)

Speaking of Warranty Gold, I decided to check out their website again for any updates and they've posted a list of combined repair and refund claims and see my name there for $708.13. A bunch of people with actual repair claims they never paid, bet they're royally ticked.

Mastertech Extended Warranty. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2006 Corvette. I have the option of getting it a certified Chevy/GM warranty 12 Mo-12K miles and the balance of the5 year 100K power train warranty. The F & I guy at the dealership is offering me a 4 year 60K warranty in liew of the GM cert warranty for approx $1500. has anyone ever heard of this company? Are they reputable. Any problems aout there. Its supposed to be a bumper to bumper warranty. It is administered by American Financial Warranty Company.

haven't heard of this company but any time you have one company selling, another company administering and probably a third different company insuring the contract it is a recipe for disaster. The finance guy is offering what he makes the most $ on. Stick with either the manufacturer or a household name company that is vertically integrated (one company owns the administrator and insurer and are completely on the hook for claims) like Zurich, JMA, CNA, Allstate, Wachovia, etc.
  • delthekingdeltheking Member Posts: 1,152
As folks here will always suggest, never buy a 3rd party ext warr. They always are ripoffs or scams and do not cover anything with so many loopholes. Buy a GM manuf. ext warr either online at any GM dealer site or in person at any GM dealership. The finance managers push these 3rd party warr as there is more profit in these for them. For them, not for you.For you is is total crap. :lemon:
Even the US govt backed GM and Chrysler warr when they went bust.Would they back some crappy 3rd party aftermarket warr ??Hell no.
And search GM forums online on Google or on edmunds forums. They have a list of GM dealers offering GM ext warr at very good prices. Not necessary that you buy a warr at your purchasing local dealer.
    Hope this helps. :shades:
