I have a 2004 tsx. I also have a highway vibration when road syrface changes. The vibration seems to come from under the Dashboard. Your vibration may be coming from the tires....
I have had my 05 TSX for 9 months now, and the entire time I've had it, I've been roll shifting (not coming to a complete stop before shifting from reverse into drive). My dad just pointed out that this is bad for the car.
"Not coming to a complete stop can shorten the life of an automatic transmission. Roll shifting reverses the torque on the driveline, which could damage the transmission, axle, mounts and drive joints."
Can anyone tell me what kind of damage I've done to my car? By how much do you think I've shortened the life of my TSX?
You may not have done any. Short of pulling the tranny apart, I don't think there's any way to tell for sure. As long as the transmission performs OK, you're probably fine. Just don't keep doing it.
Would shifting from M (Manual for Sequential Sport Mode) to D (Automatic)while driving damage the transmission? I guess I am asking would the transmission be damaged if I shift from M (manual) to D (automatic) while driving without stopping? Thanks!

The "harmonic Vibration" is basically the car vibrating at 70-80+ mph on the highway. It is like a tire is out of balance. 2 Acura dealers, 3 sets of tires and an independant tire shop have been unable to "fix" my TL. The dealer is willing to buy out my lease to put me in a TSX. Also regarding a previous post, the leather bolster on my TL also wore out. The dealer was somewhat willing to replace/fix but I was more focused at leasing the TSX. I am glad to hear that the TSX has so little problems. My 2004 TL has not been so lucky.
I was having issues with my 2005 TSX when I would have the stereo up to around level 30 and then windows down there was distortion in the speakers and it was the system "cutting out" the tones and stuff to keep from blowing speakers so I would have to hear the very loud "crackle" noise coming from the speakers. I went to Acura and they ordered new speakers thinking that they were blown. Get the new ones and same thing was happening, so I went to a "stereo store" and went to buy new speakers, and they came out and looked at mine and said that since they have premium sound and deal with the HO that they are good quality and they offered to tweak the sound system to maximize the out put. So I allowed them to do that, and they put in an amp on rear seat back in trunk and put in a sub that is easliy removable if I need the trunk space and tapped into sound system and so now I have my treble settings on +5 and bass on -4 and so now I really like the sound from my system now with a very minor adjustments and I do NOT get the noise that sounded like blown speakers, and also very loud and clear sound. That is what I did for the upgrade and like the sound a lot better now. Hope it helps you out.
Has anyone installed a fuel injection performance kit - AEM - K&N - ect. on a 06 TSX ??? I installed the K&N filter when I got the car, but was wondering about the kit. Thanks!
Have a canadaian Tsx 2006....solved the problem..before shutting of the engine, put the parking brake on...after you restart the car take off the parking brake(after all the warning lights go off)...the upper part of the MID comes on automatically..at least it does on my car. If I do not do it this way, the upper MID does not come on unless I press the button
i have a 2004 acura 6 manual speed. Was bought new. (that is with 20,000kms on it as it was a demo). The mileage is still very low (i think 27000km).Last may the transmission broke down, and the car is still at the acura dealership...more than 2 months later! We bought the extended warranty just in case, and even though it is still under warranty, they want to charge us for the repairs for more than $3200. They say the driver is at fault. Only i and my husband drive it, we're in our 40's, not teenagers...and we previously owned an acura integra , standard as well for 8 years, and we NEVER had a problem with it. I think the TSX might have the same transmission problems as the other acura vehicles, but they just don't want to recognize it and there's not enough history yet...The TSX has only been in circulation for 2 years. Had i known about the transmission problems Acura has, i would have never bought that car. We bought Acura to have a car that gives no problems, to have a safe car to drive our kids around, and for the service. We're not happy with the car and we've been badly treated, so as far as we're concerned, we'll never buy another Acura or Honda. Our next car is a Mercedes...man i would never have thought about it, but mercedes actually has a vehicle in the same price range that's soooo much better. No comparison. I'm just so happy now to have a car you can depend on , and a company that has an outstanding customer service. Nowadays Acura is overrated.
First of all, the Honda/Acura transmission problems have been problems with the automatics, and almost all of those are with the 6 cyl engines. So your failure has nothing to do with that.
If you had 20k on the odo when you bought it, it was NOT new. And it is likely (but not certain) that the failure is driver related - it's just that you weren't the driver responsible. I can just imagine the test drives that car had seen before you bought it. :surprise:
Your dealer is absolutely horrible. You need to call Honda of Canada (I assume that you are in Canada since you mentioned km) immediately and get that repair handled. They cannot prove you were the one that damaged the transmission, so they need pay for that.
While I would certainly be upset with Acura if I were you, I urge you to look up Mercedes reliability before you purchase a C-class. The customer service will be utilized often.
Our next car is a Mercedes...man i would never have thought about it, but mercedes actually has a vehicle in the same price range that's soooo much better.

Well, you did buy a demo. While everyone makes their own choices, personally I would NEVER buy a demo. I've been on test drives where extremely low mileage cars have been whipped. Being a demo is a tough start for a new car. Break-in periods are important and demos don't get them.
Any brand has problem cars and this doesn't mean that Acura is "overrated". Sorry that you had serious problems, but most Acura buyers do not. Jumping to a Mercedes product is ABSOLUTELY no guarantee of satisfaction. M-B's recent reliability (especially electronics) has been well below industry average. And out of warranty repair costs will make you cry.
I bought 2004 TSX with $20,000 with 10,000mile Driving is OK and looks pretty new. But in the idle state. the car is vibrating a little.
And when I ignite the engine by the key. I feels it is harder than other cars. Like, the engine rotates more than other cars, and feels longer than 1sec. Not smoothy start the engine.
I assume you have an automatic. The vibration is a known issue with AT TSX's. I'm not sure there is a resolution available for this.
The sluggish starting is the result of the relatively weak OEM battery, and can be fixed by getting an aftermarket battery with more cold cranking amps. If it doesn't bother you, then leave it be, because the car will still start. One thing I'll say is don't run the radio for extended periods with the car off, because you'll drain the battery pretty quickly.
I have exactly the same problem and my car isn't even 2 mths old. The dealer couldn't duplicate the problem so they said everything is fine. Were you able to figure it out?
Same problem here with the MID on my 2006 TSX. I found a way to get around it as well. After starting the car, open and shut the door with a bit of a slam. It comes on then. Very odd.
I've just gotten use to pressing the "i" for the MID and pressing the "ok" for the Navi every time I enter the car. 99% of the time, I don't need either one but it is nice to have the eye candy on.
The driver's seat creak issue is pretty common. First time I had it they ordered me a new seat base and installed it but it's creaking now after only 1,000 miles. I've got another appointment scheduled and this time we'll look at the TSB stuff. Here is a link if you'd like to take a look, the process is the same as the one described a few messages ago:
Brake pedal squeaks: jeann was talking about the brake PEDAL, not the bakes. My brake pedal also has some friction: when I first depress it I can feel the pedal "grabbing" as if the hinges are too tight, and as I press the pedal further I can feel some friction that shouldn't be there. I'm going to have them take a look at this as well when I take it in.
My MID is always off when I get in the car and start it regardless of how I left it. Personally, I like it defaulting off (since there are so many other displays to look at in this car already). It would have been cool for this to be a programmable setting, though.
You need to enable your remote first by pressing both the lock and unlock at the same time. You will see the LED blink on the top of the fob.
You then unlock the door with the remote, put the key in and turn to II. You should see the MID shows Welcome Driver 1 or (2). Now you can customize settings for each driver.
My 06 TSX is having starter problems. I've taken it to the dealer 3 times.
1st: The alarm wiring is interfering with the ignition, recommended to take back to selling dealer.
2nd: Selling dealer said that nothing is wrong, looks at the alarm, takes out an unused wire and said it is fine.
3rd: Car still not starting properly (an electrical kind of noise then engine dies). Since selling dealer is a jerk that blames it on user error, I take it back to #1. They say the battery is no good and they change it.
My car is still not starting right, I'm in the process of writing to Acura USA and perhaps taking it to the dealer a 4th time. Any advice on the Lemon Law or getting a refund???
The engine whine was it fixed? I have a 2006 M/T that I bought new last month. Yesterday, well after the break in period (1300 miles) I was taking the long way back home when I noticed a whine. This whining / whistling sound happens when I accelerate. I guess by the previous posts a new transmission is in order?
First car I owned that will be having this problem.
I just bought an 04' TSX and also have the same problems you described so succinctly: when braking, the car pulses and steering wheel shimmies. The car now has 26 k miles and the warranty should shift to me as the 2nd owner. DO you think I can expect these issues to be covered by the warranty? (e.g.- rotors, brakes) I don't think it has anything to do with the ABS because there are no brake warning lights lighting up on the dash.
Hi Everyone... Just got my new 2006 Artic Blue with Navi and I love the bluetooth -- problem is a couple mornings I have conference calls while I am driving with my baby. I only need to talk a little and don't want everyone to hear him the whole time. Is there a way to mute??? I am using a cingular nokia 6102i phone.
I have the same problem too. The car won't start at the first time, but it always started the second time when i tried.
It all started November 06. It happened 5 times within a month. I took it to south coast acura a month ago, they said nothing wrong w/ it and unless i know which part is wrong they can't do anything about it. Come on, if i knew which part is wrong, i wouldn't need to take the car back to dealer.
Same thing happened again at 2 A.M. so I leave the car there didnt try to restart it again coz the south coast acura service advicer told me not to just tow it to the dealer. I did what he said, I had the car tow to Thomas Acura. Talked to service advicer name Chris Martin. They run the same test again as south coast acura, the result is the same. everything is fine nothing wrong w/ my car.
Chris said it's NORMAL for a TSX to take a longer time to start up. If you leave the car set there for 1~2 days when you tried to start up, you will have to hold the key a little longer, sometimes it even take up to 15~20 seconds.
I'm not good with cars but I know for sure it's not right to take 15~20 second to start up a car so I called the selling dealer. The service advicer whom I talked to was nice, but since I live so far from there, he said I should take it to the cloest dealer so I call Thomas Acura again and I talk to the same service advicer.
He sounds like he doesn't want me to take the car in to do futher check up and he even said I can go in to the dealer now and he will start up any NEW or USED car right infront of me to show me it's NORMAL to take a longer time to start up the car.
When I told him I would like to make an appointment to get a futher check up for my car and also get a loaner's car, he wouldn't even tell me when is the next available time.
Is it normal like this, I know it's not but how come they can't find out the problem, that I have to hold the key a little longer when I start up my car? it only has 14000 miles on it. I bought it brand NEW.
and don't go to Thomas Acura, if you wanna go dont get the service advicer name Chris Martin. Not a happy experience with him.
So sorry to hear about this. They treated me like s*** too until I wrote a letter to Acura Client Services and got a case manager. Selling dealer was Cerritos and finally Downey took my car in. After that I only spoke with the Service Manager and they HAD to take my car (plus loaner provided free). I left it at the dealer for a week, they supposedly found nothing wrong with it but found that 2004 TSX's had similar problems. So because of that they changed all the relays and electrical junk under the hood (I don't know anything about cars either). The no start issue probably happened 3 times within the last 5 months after they fixed it, so I guess I'm happy with it.
I bought my car new also and this happened within the first month. I couldn't prove that it was a Lemon because I couldn't record the problem on tape like the attorney had suggested. I tell all my friends DO NOT BUY ACURA!!! My new car was suppose to be my baby but it was a big let down. Another friend just bought the MDX and is having issues already. Save money and buy a LEXUS instead, I wish I did. I hope this posts helps! You have to make them take you seriously if not talk to the Manager and keep going up the chain of command.
sorry to hear of your problems with your acura. I have a 06 tsx 6spd/w nav and love it. No problems (knock on wood) It has 7,200 miles on it. My sister-in-law and her husband are huge fans of Lexus but I also have a friend that had a lexus that was one problem after another. They now have a BMW. We also own a 05 Hyundai elantra GT that now has 53,000 on it-no problems. It is too bad hyundai does not have a 4-door car with 6-speed. I would have bought that. For the money it is just as good as those high priced cars.since we keep our cars for a very long time-we are not concerned about re-sale. My good friend is a acura service manager so I know I will get excellant service for my TSX. If fact he was the one that helped me when I bought it,getting a good price.
I'd have to disagree with the dealer about it being normal for the car to take a while to start, regardless of it has sat for a couple of days.
From my limited and admittedly anecdotal experience with my own '04, I've never had this problem. The OEM battery is kind of weak for the car, but the car always cranks the first time, and my car routinely sits for five days at a time due to my having access to a company vehicle.
I have to agree with you. we have had cars that sits for many days and they always start with no problems. My tsx sits for a few days to a week at a time and it always starts.
sounds like a lousy service department to me. when we owned a 98 eagle talon bought new the engine light was on. We brought it back to the selling dealer and the service advisor blamed it on a loose gas cap. It would go back on and we would make sure the cap was tightened. we took it to another dealer-it was not the cap there was something else wrong with it. They fixed it under warranty. Needless to say we never went back to the selling dealer. The s.m was very rude and unpleasant.
When driving my 2004 tsx I noticed a Strange burning smell inside the car. Later when I turned my lights on I noticed that the buttons for the radio and climate control were not lighting up, strangly only the buttons are not lit. The display for the radio/climate control are lit. Is this a short or is it just a fuse??
Hi fellow TSX owners, I got a 2007 TSX last month and have about 1700 miles on it. I commute 80 miles per day round trip to work and the last two days when I've left the garage at work to drive home I've experienced a creaking or rattling sound in the dashboard which sounds like it's coming from somewhere near the "A" pillar on the passenger side. It is worse when I accelerate and it continues for the entire drive across the city and then for several miles on the freeway. About 45 minutes to an hour into the commute home, the noise stops. When it is happening it is very irritating and needless to say the drive is no fun at all - just stressful. It can even be heard over the radio. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this in his/her TSX and if so were you able to have Acura fix it? Thanks in advance for any replies!
PS. Aside from the dashboard rattle/creak the car is very nice and I love driving it, but I won't live with a brand new $30,000 car with a rattling dashboard. No new car regardless of the price should have a rattling dashboard.
My 2006 a.s. TSX auto has 1100 miles on it. I have no rattles at all, but my 2004 Accord V6 developed a squeak/rattle in the passenger A-pillar after 5 or 6 months. The dealer popped it open, glued it and put in a small shim. That was 2 years ago and no problem since! Try getting your dealer to respond the way my Honda dealer did. (Victoria BC, Canada).
I had the exact same problem on my early 2004 TSX when I first got it. I brought it to the dealer, and they were already "aware" of this problem. Your dealer should be able to fix it easily.
I had the same thing happen to my 2004 TSX (minus the burning odor). The dealer first replaced a fuse, which did nothing and then replaced the entire module. This included the CD player, so make sure you remove your CDs before going to the dealer. Otherwise it will take several weeks to get them back. Since then all has been well.
I experienced the same problem with my 2004 TSX in late February. Everything still works on the radio and climate control (including the display), with the exception of the lights. My car is out of warranty so I am reluctant to take it to the dealer for service on this issue. Any suggestions?
They (American Honda/Acura) have extended the warranty on the Audio-HVAC regarding this issue (Display is Dim or Dark and/or panel buttons not illuminating)to 7 years or 100,000 miles. The Transportation Service Bulletin sent to dealers is #04-021 and is dated January 23, 2007. Call your dealer to verify or wait for the extended warranty notice to show up in your mail. To check on TSB's for the TSX go to the ACURA-TSX.COM website... then go to Frequently Asked Questions....TSBs recalls and other known issues. You could also print the TSB from this website and bring it to your dealer.
I know there's been a million posts on different rattles and creaks in the TSX, but I haven't read anything on the problem I'm seeing. I guess it can best be described as a creak (similar to the sound of stepping on an old wood floor), and it seems to be coming from the dash or maybe from the windshield. It only happens when I drive on rough roads or over large bumps or potholes. Anyone else have this problem?
Have any of you heard of this before? The TSX (mine is an '06) is supposed to have a 17 gallon tank, right? Then why can I never get more than 13-14 gallons in at a time? Today I filled up when the needle was on "E" and the Range Gauge was down to "0", but I was only able to put 13.992 gallons in the tank. Is there a 3-gallon reserve or something? Is everyone else able to put 17 gallons in their tank? :confuse:
I am trying to change a couple settings on my '07 TSX, like how long the interior lights stay on etc. Following the manual, but get Unknown Driver, Customize impossible message. I use the key fob to unlock doors before trying, manual says I will get that message when I open door with key, but using the fob so it should work. any ideas appreciated.
You need to program your remote. Do this by holding the "lock" and "unlock" button down at the same time. The red light on the remote will light. At that point, once you lock and unlock the door via the remote, the car will recognize your key and you can set your preferences.

Can anyone tell me what kind of damage I've done to my car? By how much do you think I've shortened the life of my TSX?
No.
The problem is most likely a rim that is bent not the tires. Have them take the tires off and check the rims.
good luck
