You don't need synthetic to last 7 years...but it don't hurt.
Rich,
The Oil Cooler Does come with the tranny cooler in the 3/4 towing package. When I ordered it..he said it was showing no charge for it...then discovered it came with the package. KC4 was not listed on the invoice..but it does say ENGINE oil cooler in the towing package. Looking through the grill you can see them all.
Rwag,
Looking forward to the pics. Due in Dec. Eh?..Congrats Late...Abviously you already tried the FRONT seat trick several months back?..LOL!
Enjoy

Is the 6.0 engine the same as the old 350
How is it on gas
Cindy> Have you thought about forgoing the 3/4 ton in favor of a 1/2 4WD? It will beef up the suspension a little and give you the taller height of the 3/4 ton. I'll bet you could rewrite your order on paper, swap the 3/4 for 4WD 1/2 and your dealer could run a locate and find want you want. But if you are adamant about it, DON'T GIVE IN. Buy what you want, drive what you want...
COLORS> Am getting out of a 96 GMC that was indigo blue. Prior to that I had a 93 Chevy that was Black. Wife has a dark green Malibu. All were/are very beautiful - the black was absolutely stunning and the blue was the best looking color period. BUT... There is no way in hell to keep them clean. The wife doesn't mind the dirt so much, and only drives 1/2 mile to work. Buy I love a clean truck. I drive 15 miles to and from work each day, behind lots of "rock-trucks" (Semis hauling gravel, sand, dirt, etc.) and I cannot keep it clean. It shows dirt and dust bad. The real bummer is when I wash it. 15 min later it shows dust. Another problem is scratches and dents. They tend to stand out. I also notice scratches in the clear-coating because they are much more visible. But if you can keep it clean, go with the Blue.
SPRAY IN LINERS> I read through the post on this topic. I think anyone who buys one of these liners to protect their bed from dents caused by 30+ pound rocks being dropped in their bed is missing the point. Think of them as a substitute "paint" for your truck bed that will not scratch. My father has a Rhino and so did my in-laws. Dad owns a construction/dirtwork business and has used his extensively. It has been outstanding and has no nicks, dings, etc. It was a no-brainer for me when I got my new truck. My old truck did only light hauling but looked pretty rough with all of the scratches on it.
REBATE> My old salesmen (see next note) left a message on the phone and said to come back, there was a $500 rebate just released on the 99s. I investigated, but edmunds shows it only on the V6s. I have also seen a $750 rebate on any 99 that was built before April 15th, (not C/K pickups). Don't know if this will help anyone.
NEW TRUCK!!!!> Okay, after reading post after post about everyone's new rigs, Matt finally got into the action. Just made the deal on a 99 CHEVY 1500 LS 4WD Z-71. It has the std LS options plus 5.3L, Tint Glass, Aluminum Wheels, Z-71 pkg, and I am having a Rhino liner put in. It is summit white and looks great. I have seen several white ones with the chrome trim and got bit by 'em. My price... Invoice of 25630 + $200 + TTL. Here is the funny part. I picked out the truck on a locator. Went to my "long-time" friendly salesman and he said $26770 for the truck. This was also on a deal getting $750 less for my trade. Listened to a friend, went to the other dealer. Salesman their said $200 over invoice sight unseen and then gave me $750 over other dealership for my trade. This without knowing the other deal. I showed him the locator, he went and got the truck and we shook hands. I pick it up on Tues or Wednesday after the bed liner is put in. I'll give a report on it then.

Tailgate Protector - All "4X4"s (not Z71s) and all base Silverados have the smaller protector. All other Silverados have the large whale-tail protector.
Colors For 2000 - I has been reported somewhere under the pickups topics that Dark Copper Metallic has been dropped for 2000. It also is not shown in the 2000 Silverado brochure. However, this dealership has a 2000 Silverado 1500 LS Z71 extended cab with short fleetside box in Dark Copper Metallic with medium oak leather interior. It is all one color and was built in Roanoke, IN.
Fender Flares - The above truck also has factory installed Dark Copper Metallic fender flares that are listed on the manufacture's sticker as an option for $180.

I am intrigued by your comment about a rebate. I saw one other reference to one at some web site that listed prices. My 3/4 ton was built on Aug 23 and I am due to pick it up in about a week, so I wonder if it will effect my price. If a rebate has been offered will it automatically be deducted on my invoice or do I have to trust my dealer to pass it on to me? My contract is $200 over invoice. Does anybody else know anything about this? Thanks,
- Paul
As far as I know, the $500 only applies to 99 models that have the V6 engine. I have seen this on Edmunds and another auto-website. My "former" salesman assured me today that No, the rebate does not only apply to V6s, it applies to all 99s as well. ???? I don't know if I believe that or not, guess I would have to see that in writing or on the web somewhere.
What I do know is this; when you make your deal, (or any deal), you will sign a form for the dealer concerning rebates. I believe this form acknowledges that the dealer has made you aware of the rebates involved and/or transfers the rebate to the dealer so it can be applied to your purchase.
Here's a question for you guys, (whoops, And Gals), where is the best website or catalog to browse for aftermarket accessories? I am really curious about aftermarket performace items, i.e. larger air filters like the K&N, etc.

(And others interested)...
I FINALLY took some pictures of the switch and motor for the PowerSlider rear window. They are from Polaroids, so the quality is lousy ... but I did use Photoshop to at least get slightly better color.

Here is a great site/catalog for aftermarket:

Cindy
Those pictures are not that bad. Motor is smaller than I thought....what about a pic of the Window itself.
I always said a slider in an extended can should be power. I didn't know until not that long ago..that you could get one.
Cool man
Thanks

Just curious, was wondering if you didn't get the dual batteries, if there would be room to install one later OR would they only make room for them at the factory with an ordered one?????
Thanks. Cindy

Tim: I didn't take a picture of the window itself because it doesn't look much different than the factory manual slider. No latch, obviously. It is dark tinted to match the rest of the truck window tinting (clear is not available ... or wasn't when I bought mine). The way it is installed, you'd really never notice that it is any different than factory. It's really a small unit that doesn't show unless you look for it (motor and cable assembly).
I like it a lot! So do the dogs. They like to stick their heads through the open window and drool on the rear seatback.

Can anyone help with this information:
Have a vibration at all speeds...feels like riding on rough road. Vibration feels all over...steeling, seats, dash, etc.....using Goodyear Wrangler tires on 2000 Chev. LS silverado, ext. cab. 2WD.
Went to dealer today: balanced tires, replaced drive shaft, checked computer(?), no difference noticed. Dealer wants to replace front tires and maybe replace transmission.
Anyone with similar problem please advise?
John
Have read where the Z71 supension is really stiff and not recommended for normal driving as us picks up every bump in the road
Question is this, is there much difference between the Z71 package (suspension) and the Firm Ride Suspension Package. My main concern is whether the "Firm Ride" option is sufficient for a two stall horse trailer. Does the Z71 offer more stability or a distinct advantage?
Bottom line: I'm going to arbitration hearing in about two weeks and was wondering if any of you have done this before and can give me some insight as to what to expect. Also if you will send me a
supporting testimonial of your experience if they are similiar to mine. The truck is a 99 Chev, 1500, LS, 5.3 litre, 2wd. Any comments will certainly be appreciated, send to tomaycock@rocketmail.com

On the dual battery, I'll believe it when you see it! All the web sites I've seen (Edmunds, KBB, MSN) agree that the dual battery is not available with CA emissions. I made a point to ask my dealer and they confirmed that smog equip is in that spot. One salesman (oops salesperson) said there is an aftermarket kit to relocate the smog gear. So you may have asked for it but I bet the dealer's computer spits up. If you find otherwise please let me know.
I have already decided that I am not keeping this truck more than 2-3 years anyway, next truck order won't be so bad considering I will already own a decent Silverado - I could wait forever next time.
I feel really bad for you people out there going through vibrations and arbitration. Quality sucks - I think they are just slapping them trucks together as fast as they can and let corporate or the dealers deal with the aftermath. Maybe the problem is random and not widespread???? Who knows..
Quadrunner: You seem to have escaped the 5.3 oil leak - awesome!
Cindy
Test ride a Z71 at your dealer and see if they are too firm for you. My guess is they will not be too firm.
Mike
If you do not intend on doing more than 60% of your driving in off road conditions (construction or recreational) - do not get the Z71 suspension.
It is not desinged for everyday highway / city driving, and you will find the ride too stiff.
This is the best info I can share.
Ordered my 00 1500 LS Ext Cab/SB 4x4 with the Z85 Firm Ride suspension / Locking Diff on August 16th - I will let you know how it works out when I take delivery in Late November.
Take care all!
I ordered a 2K 1500 LS Xcab LB.
I got a 99 Z71 in June (5.3L, 3.73, 4WD LS Ext Cab). Put more than 4000 miles on it so far. It replaced a regular 91 Silverado which I kept for my son to drive. I was concerned about the stiffness of the ride before I got the truck but wanted the off-road package for use here in Colorado. I've been very pleasantly surprised. The truck actually rides better than my wife's Camry. Even she agrees. The new truck definitely rides much smoother than the old truck. Doesn't feel like a truck. Father-in-law farms and has a 3/4 ton. It rattles your teeth in the pasture. My new truck rides a little rough in the pastures but rides very smooth on the highway and around town. When I first test drove it, I intentionally took it down a rough road and tried to hit the rough areas. The ride felt good even on that road. I don't know but suspect the ride was improved by getting the 265 tires. Before you reject the Z71 package, test drive a truck on both smooth and rough roads. I think you'll be surprised by how good it rides.
P.S. - Did I read somewhere that the Z71 package increases the size of the rear anti-sway bar, thus improving the handling of the truck?
Ordered my 00 1500 LS Ext. Cab / SB with the Ride Control and got an order # 5 days after I placed the order.
I suspect (yet cannot confirm) that the dealers with smaller business, i.e smaller allocations - try to convince their customers to accept less than they desire so as to make the orders go through the system.
My advice - talk to a larger dealer in your area. As long as this item is not an overall GM issue (and according to the wheels.com update it is not), then it may be an issue with your current salesperson / dealer. Cannot confirm - yet this is what my intuition tells me.
I'm already dealing with the largest chevy truck dealer in the Austin TX area. If the ride control suspension IS available, then maybe I'll go down to good ol San Antonio or over to Houston and see what can be had there.
It's not just the electronic controlled suspension for towing but those 46mm shocks that I'm looking forward to. They're 10mm larger than the firm ride package.
Guess I'll do some calling around and see what I can come up with.
BTW, do you have a build/delivery date yet?
I do not yet have a build date, but I have been told to expect the vehicle in 10-12 weeks. Working with the largest Western PA dealer w/the largest allocation.
Hopefully my GMO 1 order will move along as expected and my vehicle will be in around Turkey Day.
Take care!
Most severe vibrations are not the result of one component just shaking itself. All the driveline components are rotating, and at different speeds, producing distinct frequencies, and mostly unnoticed. It's when certain frequencies combine, new frequencies are created that are a harmonic multiple of the fundamental. Some cancel out, but others amplify due to constructive/destructive interference. I believe if you just stay with the highest axle ratio, 3.73 or higher, you have a better chance of avoiding a critical combination.
But the real crux of the matter for you is that your dealer can't give you a GM order number. They know what that means. Keep looking. When/if you find one you like, deal on it then and there, and don't worry about your deposit. You can/should get it back if they can't give you an order number before you buy elsewhere. You say something like, "I want my deposit refunded since you were unable to order my truck." Keyword is "order." If they come up with an order number for you, then your truck won't be far behind. Stop shopping at that point, and wait the remaining 4 weeks or so. Until then, there's no certainty of anything, no deal, previous haggling all for naught if it doesn't get you a truck. The best time to shop the lots is when the dealership is closed. If you do happen to find one on a lot, you could then ask the dealership you left the deposit with to get that truck for you. In good faith, it at least lets them have one last shot at keeping you for a customer since they were unable to get your order accepted. Worst case, you'll get your deposit back and have to haggle again.
