Mgdv4man : no no, could get the 'vette now (conv. leather) but would be in a tight situation (less than 400 a month after ins. car payments and other non-car expenses) plus in 2 yrs my ins. should go down by about $2K/yr. So back to the 3 choices. camaro, impala, silverado)
Mfreeman : Those were my plans exactly, but the truck is about $6K more than the impala.(ask my gf, she knows my tastes are always for whatever is most expensive in its class: LT silverado, ext. cab, sports side box, leather, etc...) Not that much diff considering one's a sedan the other a truck (more utilization) but oh well, still have 10 months to decide.
All: the questions still remain, any suggestions as to which options to "definately" get, which are not needed, problems, things you really like, (being a silverado message thread, I would assume I"ll get answers on the silverado only, but if any of you have both(??) do let me know, thanks
Then SAVE and pay cash for the new vehicle.
Words to the wise from a codger 39 yr old...
black (still looks great), but then I saw a Indigo
blue over Pewter 2000 LS 5300 and now its mine.
The 2000 brochure features a solid Sunset Gold metalic. I wonder how Sunset would look combined with white (over or under)?
BTW - the 4th door is listed as an option in 2000
brochure but I have yet to see one in person.
Also, since the models are built on the same assembly line (along with the Olds and Cadillacs), it doesn't make sense to have a new Yukon with an old Tahoe; new Chevy Surburban along with old GMC Surburban. By the way, the GMC is no longer called the Surburban, it's the Tahoe XL or something like that.
You sure you have the information right?

Unfortunately, Washington state is a little too far to go for buying a vehicle barely over invoice. I'm currently in Virginia. Thanks anyway.
My old 88 Silverado had hidden features in the radio. You would push a few buttons...and it would turn on a built in circuit that would add more power and make the sound kinda like equalized? It also had a DNR you could turn on. I don't think it was listed in the book....someone told me about it.

Doesn't matter what gas octane or brand I use, it still pings periodically only the higher octane seems to make it lighter and less frequent. It is still mainly during peak temps and running the air.
My dealer is not wanting to take ownership of this and help. I think they are aware of the widespread problem and are trying to help GM sweep it under the rug until the warranty expires. It doesn't do it all the time and it's not always severe, especially when its mild temps outside, so they keep blowing me off saying its normal design characteristics. They are really blowing me off now because I put an aftermarket catback exhaust system on my truck. Now they say I have voided my emissions warranty. Crapola! For one the Massey Vs. Ferguson act protects me from them voiding my warranty on anything other than the replaced part. For a second, if anyone checks it out, everything from the catalytic converters back is not covered under warranty at all anyway!
Soooooo, back to my original question. Anybody found relief of this problem? I love this truck! I had previously been a Ford truck owner for 15 years. Won't do that again. However, I really would like to get this ping cured.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
No I haven't played with autocad since college. I work over at Raytheon Systems in Arlington, TX and design thermodynamic engine simulations and control codes for F-16 engines.
Jose13-
I still vote for the truck. In my version of the vette master plan, I was going to get a very basic truck and save for the vette, but after I saw all the wonderful toys (options)on the truck, I decided to get a fully loaded 4x4. You might want to wait until 2003 for your new vette. That will be the 50th year of the corvette. Plus there is rumor of more improvements, although I couldn't think of any that it needed.
Everyone-
I just received a build date of Sept 20th, about how long does it take them to ship the truck after finished? one week? two weeks?
Later,
Mike
Mfreeman,
It will be built the WEEK of the 20th. Mine was a Monday also...it was built Thursday..and took a week to get to the dealer...which is 25 miles from the factory where it came from. 2 weeks would not be far off.
Let us know when it's here

Do you have any idea what is going on?
Should I be worried?
Thanks,
Mike
tahoes and yukons are to follow, but dont know how far behind(i also heard for the tahoes and the yukons there is going to be a heavy duty and light duty, they are supposedly going to either be able to put the duramax in it or the big block that is coming out

I ordered my 00 last week and the #'s seemed higher than just a normal model year increase, so I called GM again and was told GMO is now 17% while GMS remains the same. Only 1.5% dif, If you believe the dealer, he said GM would rather we bought from dealer stock. Good Luck! CAPT
GM keeps making GMS and GMO closer...so people will order out of stock.
Mfreeman,
Some of those codes (usually ones at top)are just standard crap like emissions and other things that make up the truck in General. However...if that sheet IS your truck as ordered...and you got Z71...and it's not an option?....I'd be wondering. Z71 is the actual Order Code. I can't be 100% positive..as I don't know for sure which form you mean....but I'd be asking questions...
What is missing?
Tim: The lock trick didn't work on my '99. Thanks for typing it in, though.
Richard
P.S. I found out on my order that if I wanted to change something after the order was accepted, they had to cancel it and start all over. Hope that's not your situation.
Are the percentages quoted on a previous post off MSRP?
Just don't go "TOO" free with the exhaust or you will lose "low end torque" and gain it more in the mid to upper range.
They got the increased torque and hp by a cam change for 2000 models.
GMO - Order it
Stock..Order
GMS..GMO

How much did you pay? How difficult was it to install? Have you gotten any "Grief" from the dealers about warranty? Also, what exhaust system did you go with and did you have to cut the old system or just unbolt it.
Sorry for the long post.
thanks.
I run a turbo diesel and the thought of fine particles of dirt spinning around the turbocharger at 50,000 rpm is not cool. BTW, the study I read placed the Amsoil 2-stage at the top without sacrificing much performance, if any. And no, I am not an Amsoil dealer. You say all the racers run K&N's? They also rebuilt their engines after one or two races.
The K&N filters breath better BUT FILTER MORE THAN A STOCK FILTER when maintained properly (i.e., washed and reoiled at recommended intervals). I am not sure what "tests" you are referring to, but all the tests by both the aftermarket filter manufacturers and also independent studies of aftermarket products and even oem racing development teams have PROVEN your claim to be totally erroneous. Sorry, but facts are facts and they didn't come from those with a vested interest in the product alone. I challenge you to provide this topic area with the locality of the source of these tests.
People with average to no experience in the auto industry have a fear for some reason of aftermarket parts. Maybe many years ago when there was little regulation on aftermarket parts, one may have reason to be skeptical of certain aftermarket parts, but today the aftermarket world is mandated to meet and most time EXCEED the requirements that the oem product had to meet, especially with the emission type parts like the intake filters. If it were possible that more dirt, etc. could enter the intake with a K&N filter, it would not pass emission regulations, and thus could not be marketed legally.
Another factor that ensures that after market parts meet or exceed oem design is the Massey Vs. Ferguson act, which simply states that it is illegal to deny any vehicle owner of their factory warranty due to the owner using aftermarket parts unless the vehicle manufacturer can, in a court of law, prove that the aftermarket part causes the failure of the faulty part in question. Under this act, only the replaced part is no longer covered. So, in short, if you put a K&N filter in your vehicle while it is still under warranty, the only part no longer covered under your oem warranty is the part you replaced, which is now covered under whatever warranty that aftermarket manufacturer provides. Period.
Dallas75:
Do an Inet search on this topic. I think you will find plenty of supporting documents that will put your mind at ease in using aftermarkets. Go to the SEMA site. You will find tons of info there for a start.
I put a dual split catback with a Magnaflow muffler on mine. Great torque increase, great sound, smoother acceleration, no delay after upshifts now, and so far combined city and highway 2 mpg better gas mileage.
Tried the door lock programming you posted on my '99 Silverado. Doesn't work! You have to be Y2K compliant!
mpazos,
I agree with you about he K&N filter. Breathes nice, but left oily grime on my intake and throttle body. Stick with stock paper elements. The factory must know something!
If the K&N filter elements were like you and mpazos say, there would be all sorts of bad reports from people who have used them. Everyone I have talked with and conversed with over the internet, all have reported positive results.
Real life experience must say something!
