I've been using Zaino for about a year. It is exactly as good or even better than what everyone says. Only advice that I can offer is to follow the directions to the "T" and if you have any questions or problems to email Sal as he responds quickly. This is a link to another great glaze but just couldn't justify the price...

Now if I could only get Dell to deliver my computer.....

Thanks for the information. It's pretty sad that you care and take the time to answer my question sooner than the paid representatives of Extang.
Anyone else with a soft (or retractable) bed cover,I'd like to hear your experiences. I plan on getting a Line-x spray-in liner......
    Thanks.

hey, just got back from taking delivery of my new supercrew! very nice truck! altho i do have to take it back to have a minor sheet metal dimple fixed on the rear of the cab. otherwise it seems to be pretty well assembled. i do have one question for anyone out there who might wanna chime in. my truck has the 5.4l v/8 and it seems a bit raspy when you prod the throttle, especially if you give it some gas on the highway but not enough to make it downshift. it almost sounds like there is a slight air intake leak or possibly an exhaust leak. anybody else notice something similar? when i take the truck in to get the dimple fixed i'll take a service tech for a spin to see what he thinks. it might just be the nature of the beast, however i must admit it makes the engine sound as if it isn't new. anyway, thanks for any info you can provide...

bwt - you will be SOOO HAPPY : ) One more day won't kill you - I had to wait for a slow boat across the sea etc. etc.! Just got back from having the front windows tinted - makes a HUGE difference, now all I need is for the Zaino to arrive - think it's going to take me some major hours to detail this beast! Picked up some new CD's while I was waiting for the tint job - thinking about bagging the rest of the day and driving around the island - nooooo, better not!

This Zaino sounds like some pretty good stuff. Where do you get it?
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
Start at www.zainobros.com (mail order only!) and be prepared with bunches of clean, white, 100% cotton, made in USA only towels and the corresponding elbow grease. While you are applying the various products (don't forget the clay bar -- amazing what comes off even a just-washed, brand new vehicle!), be sure and practice the Karate Kid "wax on; wax off" technique to add increased self-protection skills to the shiny finish benefits. It's a lot of work, but worth the results, I think.

Maybe they sent our SCrew to Hawaii! Still no news.

timothyadavis.....you say zanio is a lot of work... how long does it last. I don't mind if it is time consuming, but if the stuff is hard to apply and wipe off..... But if it doesn't need to be done as often......
  • tx_supercrewtx_supercrew Member Posts: 2
What would be the symptoms for these problems? I have a '01 S-Crew with about 7k miles that lately (within past 1k miles) is "sputtering". It usually happens when the auto-tranny is shifting 2-3 and /or 3-4. It will also do it while cruisin' on the highway. It feels like the tranny just cuts out, the RPM drops about 500 but the engine never dies. Getting to be a real concern and more frequent. I took it in once but since it "didn't turn the check engine light on" they couldn't find it. If my travel schedule would slow down I would put it in for a couple of days. Sorry for the long question. (also posted to fordonline)
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
my brand new screw makes a "sputtering" sound too. but i haven't noticed it having any relationship to the tranny. i've noticed the noise when i get on the gas a little and the engine bogs down but not enough to make the tranny downshift. it seems to make the noise when the engine is "lugging" if you will... i haven't had a chance to take it in yet and i'm pretty sure it isn't serious. almost sounds like an intake or exhaust leak. is this similar to what you are experiencing?
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
I've only done one coat so far, so I don't know how long it will last. Others have sworn by it (there is a fanatical Zaino following in a Polishes topic somewhere here in Edmund's). I did the wash with dish washing soap to get off all the dealer-applied wax, clayed (amazing how much junk comes off "clean" paint!), washed with Zaino's car wash, then did the two-step shine application. I guess it may be easier if I'd waited longer to let their polish dry more thoroughly. We'll see on the next coat (and the first for the tonneau cover -- the paint was too new on it to polish it for the first coat). I'll let you know what I see regarding aging from time to time. For now, after 4 or 5 weeks, it still looks great with just one coat. Oh, I have the Toreador Red over Gold (custom two tone without that tacky -- IMHO -- stick on striping at the border between the two colors) and the jewel-like quality of the metal flake paint really comes out with the Zaino -- especially in bright sunshine.
  • bwtbwt Member Posts: 24
    timothyadavis....

thanks for the zaino info. We think we are going to give it a try. We have lots to polish here -4 vehicles. Like to see how the zaino does on an '87 Olds Cutlas Ciera we just had repainted. Local high school auto body class did the paint job. These kids did an excellent job and we only had to pay for the supplies, what a savings!

Our truck is still not here..dealer says they usually get a shipment on Monday, but we haven't heard from him.

Anyone see the finance deal on the ford site? Put our area code in and it says it is good for here...but our salesman hadn't heard of it yet. Rates are good from 10/3 till 1/16/01. I have been having an awful time getting the site to come up so I printed it the last time I got it. Y'all might like to try typing in www.ford vehicles.com/programs/

One thing to remember when comparing these 2 vehicles is that the F250 CC is 1000 pounds heavier than the 150, so the gear advantage will be minimal if any. I have pulled 5000# + with my 150 5.4 4x4 with no problem, but gas mileage does drop to 10-12 mpg. However, when not pulling, mileage will be 14-16, which I don't think you will see that high in the 250 CC. Mind you I'm talking about 4x4s, the 4x2 mileage is probably 1-2 higher.

Checked VOPC a little while ago. It says... as of Oct 14th the vehicle has arrived at the ramp. Checked with the salesman and he says they don't have it yet.

Just ordered a Screw for $100.00 over Dealer Invoice from Bluebonnet Motors in New Braunfels, Texas (outside San Antonio). Internet Sale, no haggling, up front discussion. Invoice plus TT&L. Should be here in 6-8 weeks..possibly 5 since this is the largest volume Ford dealer in Texas!
Torre Red with Arizona Beige bottom..should catch the Texas Sun Rays real purty like!!!

doesn't sound like the same thing but I seem to recall your symptoms and just brushed it off. the main concern is the transmission getting worse as time goes on - cutout about 8 times in a row while cruisin at 70 the other day. One of these days I'll have to go back and pick up what's left of it after it drops out...
  • bwtbwt Member Posts: 24
checked VOPC again. Said as of 10/15 your vehicle has been shipped via rail with an expected delivery date of week of 10/12. Anyone else had this much fun?
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
Expected delivery date three days before the ship date? Surely you meant 10/21?!?
  • lee75lee75 Member Posts: 15
Now that I've taken delivery of my Supercrew, it's interesting to read these posts about delivery and VOPC. I went thru the same "fun" week after week. All I can say is it's worth it. BTW, once you learn that it's at the ramp or left the factory, it can be delivered at any time. Like a lot of folks, mine arrived at the dealer almost a week before the scheduled delivery.

    Tx Supercrew: Good luck.

    tinothyadavis.....

nope....meant just what I typed 10/12! Just talked to the salesman and he said last he had gotten was what we heard yesterday on VOPC that it was at the ramp. Makes no sense. He said it was being hauled by Allied Carriers. Guess that is the trucking company. Wonder where they have our SCrew.

I will tell you the story I posted on the F150 site. We bought a refrigerator in Nov. of '99 it was to be shipped out of Memphis in 3 days. They kept setting up delivery dates and the frig was a no show for 4 months! We finally got it March'00. We made jokes about "Elvis" must have our frig since it was "lost" in Memphis. So now the joke is........ If you see a 4X2 shiny white SCrew, dk. graphite interior....look for the white spangled suit, snear and side burns!!!!

By the way...Babylon 5 was better

Ok all you time travelers!!! Randy Shepler just called from Town & Country Ford in Nashville.... the "time machine" is here!! Hoping to go and get it tomorrow!!!

Hey y'all! Live long and prosper!!!!!

Wrestling with a dealer installed Rhino spray-in liner versus a dealer installed drop-in liner..each at $299. I've not seen much in here about either...any comments from those of you already riding into the sunset with bed liners in your Screws???
  • hulagirlhulagirl Member Posts: 39
Congrats - know we won't be hearing from you for a while as you won't be able to stop driving around! I still keep looking for excuses to go drive somewhere! ;^)

Smilin - there is a section in Edmunds where people debate the spray-in vs. drop-in - just use the search function. I personally selected drop-in after reading the posts and realizing that I didn't want the fading or cleaning problems of a spray in. Also, spray-in offers no protection from dents and doesn't allow cargo to easily slide in and out due to its rough surface. It all boils down to personal preference and I guess you can figure mine out!

Hey Oby - thought your reference was Star Wars! LOL ;^o
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
Darth, Ben, Hans, or Luke....all there was were James, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Hikaru, Uhura, and Pavel. Plus if you can't tell, Star Wars was actually a spin off of Star Trek. I'm sure you notice the similarities between Spock and Yoda....LOL!!

I think I stopped trying prior to intermediate school...LOL...Capt. Honolulu. Haven't heard that one in awhile...and what about Checkers and Pogo Poge.....I really should stop before Meredith gets bent outta shape...and does the Tosh Togo on my posts... Glad to see you're enjoying your truck...

I bought (currently 'clean and unscheduled') a 4x4 5.4 mainly for hauling a FW. Someone told me I'll need a sliding hitch. What is a sliding hitch and why would I want or need one? Any info about FW hauling is needed. I'm as new as can be on this. SCrew is the biggest/baddest/most expensive thing (by a factor of 10) I've ever owned. Will it pull OK?
  • smilinsmilin Member Posts: 11
    Hula Girl,
Many thanks for the tip on the "Bedliner Search"..found it and looks like I'll be going with the drop-in for the same reasons you did!
Hope all is well in Aloha-Land. I used to travel there frequently when I was based in Northern California. Hawaii sure is great even when it's crowded out with touristos!!
  • hulagirlhulagirl Member Posts: 39
You're welcome! I've learned so much here from other people helping out! Now you just have to enjoy like the rest of us are (once we took possession, that is!)

I have to take a long drive today (work related of course) woohoo!!!!

Oby - of course I can do that with my hands! (I tried, just to make sure LOL) Is it true that Meredith is a man??? Only the man behind the curtain knows for sure!
  • smilinsmilin Member Posts: 11
    Hula Girl,
What defines a "long" drive in Hawaii???
Seems like you'd be a bit limited on how far you can go living on an island..or is your Screw equipped with pontoons as well as a drop in liner??? Anyway..have a safe drive and enjoy!
  • mikeintnmikeintn Member Posts: 39
Drop in verus spray on was never a question for me, my question was about which spray on liner. Shopped around some and decided on Rhino, based upon a long term user friend who was very pleased, and a very experienced Rhino dealer who does a great job. My belief is the spray on is only as good as the experience of the person doing it.

Spray on seems to be a better choice. No moisture under it leading to rust, less slipage in the bed, more durable, better looks, and longer life. I have had my Rhino for a week and have hauled drums of oil and grease in it with great success.
I strongly urge you to go with a Rhino, you'll be glad you did.

as they say, if they talk like one, hunt like one, likes the same toys as one, it in all likelyhood is one....but these days, after watching, Springer, you never know for sure. LOL!!

I would hope so as he drives the same kind of truck as I do...

So did you get your Zaino yet? I noticed when driving around around town that I haven't seen one Screw. I would have thought that they would've been more common by now. I do see a lot of those Explorers though and try to avoid them on the freeway.
  • runner21runner21 Member Posts: 28
Of course you haven't seen another one yet, the people are still waiting to take delivery. And by the way I passed a super cab the other day and it was so shinny it must have been a zaino wax job. I went straight home and ordered my Zaino that same day. My question is, How long do you have to wait to put a coat of wax on a brand new vehicle? I have a friend and she had some body work done (on her car)and the body shop told her that she shouldn't wax it for at least 3 months. I haven't had my new SCrew but at least 2 mos. Anyone in the know on this subject?
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
The factory paint job is baked on and can be waxed right away. Strangely, I had some retouch needed on my pickup right after I got it; the dealer's body shop had to repaint one side of the bed. When I asked they said I could wax right away (?!?). I Zainoed it a month or so later.

However, for the hard tonneau cover I had put on with matching paint (Toreador Red), the Truck accessories store guys were very specific that I should wait 3 months before waxing. I've waited and will Zaino it on the first nice weekend.

So, it won't particularly hurt to wait, but I'm sure you don't have to on the original paint. Other paint after that, who knows. The stories seem to vary. But the safest thing is to do whatever you're told by the guys who will need to pay on a warranty claim if something goes wrong....
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
I agree with timothyadavis. When taking delivery of a vehicle, dealer prep usually includes a coat of wax. The true zaino fanatic will tell the dealer not to wax the vehicle as their technique will often leave scratches in the paint. When taking delivery of my '00 Denali, I had asked the salesperson not to have the truck detailed by their lot attendants. Funny thing, when I returned to pickup the truck, the salesman was wiping the truck down with a chamois without first washing it. What's bad about that is the dust acts like fine sandpaper leaving a lot of fine scratches....oh what a feeling....

And don't forget the most important step...dawn, clay, dawn...easy to remember cause it sounds like Threes Company.
  • hulagirlhulagirl Member Posts: 39
No Zaino yet....I sent my check on 9/27. I'll give them another week and then I'll email. I think I will use Joie next time for sure! timothydavis - wow! I'm glad you posted because I also have a color matched tonneau and as it was purchased and installed by the dealer - I didn't know about the wait. I will Zaino all but the cover - maybe it will be a good comparison test! My Screw is BLACK (lots of work, but sure looks good!) Took the Kinau St. off two days ago and at the Ward light pulled up next to a black Screw - boy did we both do a double take! It was an XLT and mine is a Lariat. It was the first one I'd seen on the road, but I'm sure there will be more to follow!

Smilin - okay, so a long drive consisted of a twenty minute trek out to the west side - hey that was 20 mins. I got to spend in the truck!!! I did do a semi-around the island trip on Sunday, just over 100 miles woohoo!!!
  • bwtbwt Member Posts: 24
Love that truck! Picked it up today, and we are really impressed. Looks great, rides great, drives great....y'all were right it was worth the wait!

Randy Shepler (fleet manager) at Town and Country Road, in Nashville, TN was great to deal with. Ordered at $200 under invoice.

Friends called the other day to tell us they have decided this would be the right truck for their needs and were shopping for one. They did not want to order, and were trying to find one in stock, and a good trade in deal on their 2 year old GMC truck. We took ours over tonight for them to check out. Their dealer found one for them and they should pick their's up tomorrow. We are seeing more SCrews around our neck of the woods.

    Miles of smiles!!

At the sake of sounding ignorant what is "Joie"? Do you know if the long wait from Zaino is normal???

Has anyone checked the incentive and rebates on Edmunds today? It is saying that Ford is offering 5.9% for 24 or 36 months and 7.9% for 48 months.

I found this same info on the Ford site and the salesman said he had no info on that. He even called Ford and they said no that was a mistake and there was no offer of special financing. We got 7.15% for 36 months at our local credit union, but am sure going to be hacked if that 5.9% is correct since you will notice the date says it is in effect since 10/2 and we just picked up the truck 10/20. Any one have any info?
  • hulagirlhulagirl Member Posts: 39
In the Zaino topic - everyone raves about quick delivery - so once again - I'm the one left waiting......Don't feel ignorant Joie is the name of the local Hawaii distributor of Zaino - I didn't know about him until I had already ordered. Still enjoying my SCrew :-)
  • whalercatwhalercat Member Posts: 40
I also have the Rhino liner--looks great, stood up to a 2500# pallett of white marble chips. Much better sliding resistance, esp when wet, than a drop in liner.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
Zaino delivery is if the Zaino personnel think that a check that says Bank Of Hawaii or First Hawaiian Bank is a foreign check and wait for it to clear. They also don't know about US Priority Mail as mine was shipped via parcel post which takes up to three weeks for delivery. There have been times when buying through ebay that I've been quoted international shipping rates as Hawaii is considered a foreign country by some who live in the continental U.S.....I wonder if these same people obtain a passport prior to leaving for a vacation in Hawaii? LOL!!
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
many folks still expect grass huts and skirts in Hawaii. I was born on Molokai (how many haole boys you think can say that?!), we moved to Waianae when I was 3 weeks old, but then we moved to the mainland before I was 3 years old. I moved back to Hawaii after (finally!) completing college at the end of 1988 and stayed until an overseas assignment in 1996, after which I moved here to Texas.

In 1988, when I told my friends that I was moving to Hawaii the most common reaction was, "You'll be back in less than 6 months!" Of course, folks in Hawaii thought the same in spite of my having been born there; it was hard to get that first job.

I think the mainland folks generally think of Hawaii as a vacation spot only; the perception is that everyone wants to visit there but no one really wants to live there! You may know that many military wives spend 99% of their time on base and try to minimize all contact with locals. They act like they were stationed in Korea or mainland China or somewhere.

I work for the phone company (Yep, that one) and even funnier is the perception that Hawaii is backward technologically. Many are shocked to find the saturation level of fiber optic cable and cell phone usage on Oahu.

Some attitudes are not disturbed overly much by the facts....
