Our prices have been higher than most at times during the last year or two.

I think our supply comes through pipelines from Louisiana and Texas.

While it seems most on this board are experiencing price decreases we are having price increases. Though I was able to fill-up for $2.40 today, most of the stations have gone up to $2.43 ~ $2.50, from earlier lows of $2.34 ~ $2.36. Places by work are in the $2.54 range. So it looks like we are getting back to "normal".

This still beats the $4.20/gal prices of a couple months ago. I wonder what prices are in city, especially in the downtown / Grant Park area where the celebration occurred.

    $2.340

    Down 2.5 cents overnight.

    Diesel down to $3.188

Phoenix is at $2.34 for RUG.

At this pace, $2 gas is here by November 20th.

...Sunoco at Longshore and Rising Sun:

    RUG = $2.25
    Ultra = $2.63

Funny thing is, with the drop in fuel prices, my car seems to be getting better fuel economy.
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
My guess is they are using less ethanol in the RUG. It is costing more than gas so they are probably going with the minimum 2.97%. Or better yet NO ethanol at all. That could be our slogan. "NO ETHANOL AT ALL"
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
We've managed to creep down to $2.47 although all our stations now have ethanol blend so I'm forced to buy 10% more fuel to complete my travels

The oil prices had me worried when they spiked to $70 just before the election. Now they are plunging to almost $60 with continued weakness. Not long before we see $2 gas all across the land.

    COME ON $2 GAS.

My Costco is at $2.39. I have a full tank so had to pass. Wholesale gas at $1.33 per gallon. I don't think it will help my 401K get going again.

RUG ranges from $2.05 to $2.09 at most places -- such a deal!

I can't say I've ever noticed an mpg difference because of ethanol blend.

Gary, why is the "minimum" blend 2.97% when zero is still permissible?
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I think I read that is what the mandate percentage will be at a given time. Not sure where I read that. I don't think all states have complied yet. All I see is the percentage at CA stations say up to 10%. I have tried to find out which companies use what percentage and have drawn a blank.

I got 17 MPG on my last tank which was mostly highway 70-75 MPH. Maybe Costco gas is not using as much ethanol. That is the best I have gotten on CA gas in the 13 months I have owned the Sequoia.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Local Costco is down to $2.18. In the county you can now get off brands at under $2 and major brands for just over.

My closest station, Mount Arlington Exxon, Mt. A, NJ. It's the ONLY station at the I-80 exit ramps, so there's zero competition if you really need the fluid...

    87 - $2.379
    89 - $2.479
    93 - $2.649
    diesel - $3.329

In contrast, the big Flying J truck stop at exit 2 of I-295 in Carneys Point NJ. There's a Pilot truck stop on the other side of the highway, along with at least 3 other gas stations there near the off-ramps.

    87 - $1.979
    89 - $2.079
    93 - $2.189
    diesel - $3.079

They must be keeping the diesel high on the East coast to avoid a rush to fill the tanks for the winter heating season. In San Diego most stations around me are selling diesel 30 cents higher than regular gas. Our cheapest gas is holding at $2.39.

just paid $2.23 for RUG, topping off the explorer. cash price was $2.15.
i should have paid cash, i had a hard time putting $20 in it.
it didn't even occur to me, as i am still remembering close to $4.50 a gallon.

managed to snag 89 octane for my '79 5th Ave at 2.599 per gallon. 87, which it pukes on, was $2.299 and hi-test was $2.699. The last time I filled this car up was July 15, according to my records. Back then, I paid something like $4.35 for hi-test. That fill-up cost around $74, and got me about 17 gallons. This one was "only" around $50, and got me around 19 gallons.

$2.35 in Happy Valley, but we're still high compared to a lot of places in PA. Someone told me $1.99 just two hours away
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I could save 50 cents per gallon if I drive 15 miles to Costco. That is two gallons round trip. Shell does give me 5% off so the break even is somewhere around 12 gallons in my Ford Ranger PU. I go ahead and support the local gas station unless I need other things at Costco.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
I noticed the title and remembered it from somewhere, but didn't associate it with the Three Stooges. You know, a lot of the younger guys here may not even know who the Three Stooges were! They were a staple of after-school TV for me.

Gas here in central VA ranges from $1.95 to $1.99 at most places now (for RUG). Who'd a thunk it?

Diesel at Shell and Sheetz are $2.98 and $2.99, respectively.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
lars - isn't that one Abbot and Costello? I didn't comment because I just saw it now. :D

Meanwhile - I finally bought at under $2 today! $1.99.... Sunoco. I went down the road and saw $1.95 for BP. Have seen as low as $1.92 for no name.

If it keeps up at this rate gas may be as cheap with the current administration going out as it was when they were coming in - around a buck and a half.

    News story:

    Drop almost over?

Pump prices should hover in the $2 range for several months, falling as low as $1.75 in some markets, says Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for OPIS. But don't expect a sustained period of low prices reminiscent of the 1990s, he says. Although demand is weak, it's expected to pick up during next summer's driving season, and oil supplies are likely to remain tight for years.

Kloza expects gas prices to jump about 75 cents in spring 2009, though he's not predicting a return of $4 gasoline soon. "I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of prices north of $3" in six months, he says.

Well, just a few short months ago the experts were telling us there was no near term relief in sight for the upward movement of gas prices too.

I'm constantly amazed at how often the experts are surprised.

    No, it's definitely 3 Stooges:

Niagara Falls!! Slowly I turned...Step by Step...Inch by Inch... ;)
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
The Niagara routine reportedly dates back to the burlesque days - the Stooges (and sometimes Bud & Lou or Lucy or Dick van [non-permissible content removed]) get the creation nod since they managed to get it on film, but none of them were the first to do the skit.

You can look it up, but this guy already did.

Gas prices were unchanged overnight here.

    Ah! That explains it.

I definitely have Abbot and Costello for Susquehanna hats .....

No chnage in gas prices overnight? How boring....

  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,007
is spreading rampant through Maryland. I was out and about yesterday, and saw a member price of $1.99 at the BJ's in Bowie. $1.98 at the Costco in Arundel Mills (I think that area's called Hanover). And just south of Baltimore, I saw a few $1.99's at regular gas stations.

Unfortunately, I wasn't driving, otherwise I would've filled up! Closer to home, the two gas stations between home and work are holding out at $2.25 at Citgo, $2.36 at Shell.

As for that "Slowly I turn", bit, wasn't it Beavis and Butthead? :P

Just in time to go visit Grandma. That is something to be thankful for. Last year at this time in San Diego our gas was a dollar more per gallon than this year. I filled up on 11/10/07 and paid $3.24 per gallon. Gas today is down to $2.22 per gallon.

Diesel seems to be holding at $2.69 per gallon.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Beavis too? lol, Lars really got us going with Slowly I turn.

I have a friend from Seattle visiting, and he was bragging on his diesel truck's mpg last night. I, ahem, asked him what the price differential was on diesel was over there (still a buck).

Then I asked him how his asthma was doing. Slowly I turn.... ;)
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,007
Nah, I was just being stupid with the Beavis and Butthead crack. The only time I've ever seen that "Slowly I turn" skit was on "I Love Lucy".

    Another nice surprise today. York, PA - RUG - $2.01 - $2.09

harrisburg area (west shore) is below $2.
  • oldfarmer50oldfarmer50 Member Posts: 24,105
RUG was $2.24 at a local station at 6 AM by 9AM it was $2.22.

Gas is now lower than at any time since Katrina. Some stations are down to $2.17.

Also, in the Clearwater Florida area RUG is $2.14

At this rate I'll be drinking gas instead of beer and watering my lawn with the stuff.

I've seen this pattern repeated several times. Prices skyrocket and then just when everybody is ready to take serious action to achieve energy independence, boom, the price goes down.

Makes you wonder if this is just a game they play to empty our pockets from time to time.

By home prices are in the $2.18 ~ $2.20 range
By work prices are in the $2.26 ~ $2.30 range

Actually saw a $1.99 price at the Phillips 66, but that was the "with wash" price, without wash $2.17. The Mobil stations have been slow to lower prices.

Do any of you think with the drop in prices people will be taking to the roads more over the holidays (Thanksgiving & Merry Christmas)?
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,007
of sub-$2 gas in Maryland. Most of Laurel is in the $1.90-$1.99 range. That's about 7-8 miles north of me. Costco out in Beltsville is $1.91. Out in Millersville (about 15 miles NE, I'm seeing around $1.95-$2.00.

Most of the really close places to me (Bowie, Glenn Dale, Greenbelt, Seabrook) are still running $2.15-$2.30.

As for thanksgiving, I'm meeting up with my Granddad, and taking him to a big family get-together about 60 miles away. I would've done it even with $4.00/gal gas, but these cheaper prices will be a nice bonus.
