Yes... Thanksgiving break is in there too. But the downward pressure must really be building as it dropped to $2.03 late this afternoon! :surprise:

the Shell station between work and home is down to $1.999 for 87. The Citgo is down to $1.979.

The Shell station up in Laurel, where I filled up on Tuesday for $1.879, is now down to $1.779!

Winchester, Va. gas prices as of this morning are at $1.72 along the I-81 corridor. Martinsburg, WV. is still up around the $1.99 mark so it may be worth it to make the 20 minute trip south to Va. for the cheaper gas. We have been doing our regular food shopping there for awhile to take advantage of the cheaper gas prices.

Wish we had the $1.45 gas here. I remember in 1999 gas was at $.89 at Liberty and Marathon stations around the Steubenville, OH--Weirton, WV border. Will we ever get that low again???
  • dave8697dave8697 Member Posts: 1,498
The dollar amount was $23, less than the 27 gallon tank size. I had a little over a quarter tank to start.

Last time gas was $1.59, I bought a used car that got 27.5 mpg commuting and drove it 30,000 miles in the first year. When I bought my 18 mpg hwy truck in June 2001, gas was $1.30. It went to $2.00 by just after 9-11, ending an era where trucks were bought for having very low depreciation when used for commuting. The truck still only has 25000 miles on it. It's lack of use by me mirrors America's lack of hunger for new ones since 9-11.

Funny thing is 9-11 helped real estate tremendously. People stormed out of stocks and bought up sunbelt real estate.

Surrendering gains in last 2 years:
    real estate
    gas
    wall streel

    not surrendering:
    precious metals

I topped off yesterday about noon at Costco. Price was $1.95. That afternoon the price went down to $1.84. What is real crazy is the station closest to the TJ border has kept their price at $3.89 to gouge the Mexican drivers that were coming over the border. It seems when TJ was selling gas cheap the lines were long and stations ran out of gas. Diesel is staying 25% above gas.

Still more downside. The other day I saw unleaded futures prices under $1. Not sure how low we'll go, but it seems like prices in the under $2 range are going to be with us for a while yet.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Irresistable pressure as we've cracked $20 in Happy Valley... $1.99

So there have been 5 drops in price over the last 36 hours

What happened to all of the people who said George Bush was lowering fuel prices leading up to the election to help McCain get elected?

BTW the lowest in the Minneapolis area accord to twincitiegasprice.com (where the site was started) is $1.59

Man I wish I still had my Tahoe :)

Man that's cheaper than here in Texas. Saw RUG going for $1.65 today. How low will it go? :confuse:
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
I can hardly wait to see if we've had a drop this morning :P

We're still about 20 to 30 cents higher than the Carlisle area 90 minutes away.

    What a rip-off. :P
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I got you gas under $2 and you are still complaining  I am still amazed that San Diego with 67 cents in tax is selling gas for $1.84. That don't leave much for the oil companies, refiners and gas stations.
  • ExigenteExigente Member Posts: 2
So far the lowest prices round here are $2.19 what are they up to? Seems there is too much to profit. Is it me or can it be they R waiting for you to buy up those SUV's before spiking the price up again.
Folks it's not a matter of it getting better it's more like we were had! All those TRILLIONs in profit went in someone's pocket at our cost!
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
    >Trillions in profit went...

And they are still going. Percentwise they are still making the same money. (That was the logic that it was okay for them to make more when the price was higher--because it was the same percentage).

Think: At $4.10 / gal, $3.50 was cost of gas exclusive of 60 cents state and federal tax (give or tax). Now the gas is $1.50 locally which meas $.90 is the cost of the fuel. $.90/$3.50 ratio is .27 approx. We're paying 1/4 of the cost a few months ago.

Some really funny things were happening int he financial end of this--all the magic paper trading with no oil behind the contracts. Oddly, the same thing happens with mney in the financial end of the markets for mortgages, lots of funny paper with no money behind it.

I wonder from where our country's economic problems emminate?

in Willcox, AZ. Lowest price in town is $1.94/gal for RUG, this price can be had at 4 different Willcox gas stations. I'm gonna quit calling it ghastly if these prices keep dropping. I really never thought we'd drop below $2.00/gal ever again. This is truly a phenomenon going on here. Let's still keep preparing to buy our 2010 Pininfarina-Bollore B-Zero's. Ya never know if gas prices will sharply rise again. The B-Zero gets 153 miles per charge and only takes 5 hours to charge up. It's an Italian-French micro-car being developed with what looks to be the smartest (LMP) battery technology designed yet. They (Bollore of France) have spent the last 15 years developing this technology and on the LeBlue test car the batteries have gone 125,000 klm's and needed no maintenance, nor have they had any problems with them operating properly. Bollore is not going to separately lease the batteries, it has just been discovered, too, so the B0 can be bought as a complete package, batteries and all. As you can tell, I'm not excited about this new all-electric automobile at all. :shades:

I live in Bakersfield Ca.,and gas today is at 1.85 per gal, and goes up to max 1.99 depending on what station you want. I never thought it would cost only 45.00 dollars to fill my Dodge Ram up.

Gas is $1.81 - $1.89 in the greater york area. filled up with $30 over the weekend.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...this weekend and saw Sunoco RUG for $1.73 and Ultra for $2.26.

Back in Philly, Sunoco RUG is $1.99 and Ultra is $2.39.

Was able to fill-up at the Shell in Oswego for $1.90 on Friday. This morning at my usual place petrol was $1.85 for 87 octane. Checking my records haven't purchased fuel that low in price since 13-Oct-06. Yes, over 2 years ago!!

My wallet thanks these lower prices and fortunately my right foot has become light again (was getting a little heavy when fuel was in the mid-$2.50 range). ;)

That don't leave much for the oil companies, refiners and gas stations.

Where's the media at with that? For the last couple of years all we heard about was record profits for oil companies. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, we hear nothing about how much money the oil companies have lost. Poor oil companies.

  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,675
We also don't hear about price reductions due to lower fuel costs. Remember when everyone raised prices because of fuel costs? Now we're on the other end--no price reductions. Guess where the extra profit is going?

Re oil companies not making huge dollar amounts but probably still making same percentage profits. It doesn't suit media's purpose to impeach on administration, therefore we won't hear. Note GE owns NBC and all the variations--lots of media.

Well, this isn't a huge drop, but I used to pay $4.49 for a gallon of chocolate milk at the local Giant. Sometimes it would go on sale for $3.99. They also run a special on milk, where after you've purchased 6 gallons (doesn't have to all be at once, obviously) you get a coupon for a free gallon.

Anyway, yesterday the regular, non-sale price had dropped to $4.25 for a gallon. So, a 5% drop. Not huge, but I'll take it. Now the interesting thing will be to see if it still goes on sale as often. And if they keep running the 7th gallon free special.

As for gas prices, I just checked online at Marylandgasprices.com, and see that the Shell in Laurel, where I paid $1.879 last Tuesday, is down to $1.719 today. I'm driving my '79 5th Ave today, and might run up there on my lunch break. But, I'm still around half a tank, and by the time that car needs gas it might be even cheaper!

Local Hess has RUG at $1.76. We're back to our usual position just below the national avg.

BTW - I haven't checked in here in a few days. Where's larsb? He stopped posting the national avg. on the 20th. when it was $2.02

Today national avg. is down to $1.885

Have to start wondering just how low it is going to go.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
We've tended to be about 20 cents above the national average so I'm assuming the downward momentum is still there as we're at $1.97 ;)

I think it's going to be interesting as we move forward and come to those traditional times of increased travel. Last summer's fuel price spike got our attention!

It could be argued it was the straw that broke the camel's back. With the stock market in the toilet will investor's have the money to speculate and run up the oil price like they did last Spring? I'm hoping a few of them lost their shorts when the price crashed. My guess is the price of oil will continue down. It could go nearly as low as it did 10 years ago if the World economy does not rebound.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
That was at a Fred Meyers, which is usually a nickle or more cheaper than the majors. Diesel was $2.65 there.

And I saw a Stinker station with $2.75 on their signboard.
  • nortsr1nortsr1 Member Posts: 1,060
    RUG $1.57
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
down to $1.53! That's about 60-70 miles away from me though, too far to ever drive to just for gas! Closer to home, it's down to $1.63 in some parts of Laurel, Maryland.

I wonder if we will see $1.00 per gallon before this is all over? Maybe not as a national average, but perhaps isolated pockets here and there?
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Most of the stations in my area are at $1.97 or $1.99, but then there's ONE self-serve Sunoco that's sitting at $2.09... and there are folks at all the pumps as I drive by when there are 5 stations with just as easy access within a half mile.

Sometimes I think we really do need some chlorine in the gene pool :confuse:
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Late last week I reported only getting $10 worth because of the outrageously high price of $1.89 a gallon. ;)

Well, today I finally filled the thing. Had I gone to the same station I would have saved a whopping 2 cents a gallon but because I was in the northern part of the county I landed Sunoco at $1.71. Life is good....

Sunoco at Longshore and Rising Sun in NE Philly:

    RUG = $1.93
    Ultra = $2.33
  • andre1969andre1969 Member Posts: 26,023
is again down in Lusby (southern Md). One station's at $1.47 and another is $1.49. Closer to home, about the cheapest I can find is still in Laurel...$1.65-1.70.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Wow! I was just in Cecil County last Saturday and the prices were 20 cents less than Philly.
  • dave8697dave8697 Member Posts: 1,498
Cecil county. I got a speeding ticket there for not having a front liscence plate. Gas is $1.51 in central Indiana. Colts have won 6 of last 8 games. 4 up days in a row
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
In the county we've broken the $1.70 barrier. In town we're just above it.

If I went west of here southwest Jersey is a fair piece cheaper.

$1.65 at one of the Shell stations, according to Marylandgasprices.com. I'll be passing by that area today, and the Intrepid's down to about a half-tank, so I'm going to make sure to stop and fill up.
  • dave8697dave8697 Member Posts: 1,498
The whole town was $1.50 last nite.
Can this drop restore any value to larger vehicles that have taken a big hit on depreciation?
  • gagricegagrice Member Posts: 31,450
I think most car buyers are still gun shy about buying a gas guzzler.

San Diego gas is below $1.70 in a few places. Most of the discount places are below $1.75. Diesel is still high at $2.33 per gallon.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Still $1.97 here, although we drove down to the York area and back today and saw as low as $1.83
  • sylviaesylviae Member Posts: 31
Gas prices here seem to be between $1.79 and$1.67 depending.....ethanol, of course. It looked about the same in Williamsburg area--sometimes a little higher nearer the shopping areas. I'm here visiting in the middle of deer hunting season and understand there are lots of serious deer hunters here and they use dogs which are really pampered animals and wear tracking collars also !!! Beautiful country !!

Ghastly is $1.79/gal for RUG here in Willcox, AZ. Once ghastly prices fall to $1.00/gal I'll voluntarily stop called gasoline ghastly. :D

is $1.31/gal for RUG in Jonesboro, AR. Here in Willcox, AZ, our lowest price for RUG is $1.79/gal.

The highest price in the U.S. right now is $3.54/gal for RUG in Kodiak, AK.

The national U.S. average right now for RUG is $1.81/gal.
