The Shell station up in Laurel, where I filled up on Tuesday for $1.879, is now down to $1.779!
Wish we had the $1.45 gas here. I remember in 1999 gas was at $.89 at Liberty and Marathon stations around the Steubenville, OH--Weirton, WV border. Will we ever get that low again???
Last time gas was $1.59, I bought a used car that got 27.5 mpg commuting and drove it 30,000 miles in the first year. When I bought my 18 mpg hwy truck in June 2001, gas was $1.30. It went to $2.00 by just after 9-11, ending an era where trucks were bought for having very low depreciation when used for commuting. The truck still only has 25000 miles on it. It's lack of use by me mirrors America's lack of hunger for new ones since 9-11.
Funny thing is 9-11 helped real estate tremendously. People stormed out of stocks and bought up sunbelt real estate.
Surrendering gains in last 2 years:
real estate
gas
wall streel
not surrendering:
precious metals
So there have been 5 drops in price over the last 36 hours
BTW the lowest in the Minneapolis area accord to twincitiegasprice.com (where the site was started) is $1.59
Man I wish I still had my Tahoe
We're still about 20 to 30 cents higher than the Carlisle area 90 minutes away.

Folks it's not a matter of it getting better it's more like we were had! All those TRILLIONs in profit went in someone's pocket at our cost!
And they are still going. Percentwise they are still making the same money. (That was the logic that it was okay for them to make more when the price was higher--because it was the same percentage).
Think: At $4.10 / gal, $3.50 was cost of gas exclusive of 60 cents state and federal tax (give or tax). Now the gas is $1.50 locally which meas $.90 is the cost of the fuel. $.90/$3.50 ratio is .27 approx. We're paying 1/4 of the cost a few months ago.
Some really funny things were happening int he financial end of this--all the magic paper trading with no oil behind the contracts. Oddly, the same thing happens with mney in the financial end of the markets for mortgages, lots of funny paper with no money behind it.
I wonder from where our country's economic problems emminate?

Back in Philly, Sunoco RUG is $1.99 and Ultra is $2.39.
My wallet thanks these lower prices and fortunately my right foot has become light again (was getting a little heavy when fuel was in the mid-$2.50 range).
Where's the media at with that? For the last couple of years all we heard about was record profits for oil companies. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, we hear nothing about how much money the oil companies have lost. Poor oil companies.
$1.64 in Louisville.... RUG!
Re oil companies not making huge dollar amounts but probably still making same percentage profits. It doesn't suit media's purpose to impeach on administration, therefore we won't hear. Note GE owns NBC and all the variations--lots of media.

Well, this isn't a huge drop, but I used to pay $4.49 for a gallon of chocolate milk at the local Giant. Sometimes it would go on sale for $3.99. They also run a special on milk, where after you've purchased 6 gallons (doesn't have to all be at once, obviously) you get a coupon for a free gallon.
Anyway, yesterday the regular, non-sale price had dropped to $4.25 for a gallon. So, a 5% drop. Not huge, but I'll take it. Now the interesting thing will be to see if it still goes on sale as often. And if they keep running the 7th gallon free special.
As for gas prices, I just checked online at Marylandgasprices.com, and see that the Shell in Laurel, where I paid $1.879 last Tuesday, is down to $1.719 today. I'm driving my '79 5th Ave today, and might run up there on my lunch break. But, I'm still around half a tank, and by the time that car needs gas it might be even cheaper!
BTW - I haven't checked in here in a few days. Where's larsb? He stopped posting the national avg. on the 20th. when it was $2.02
Today national avg. is down to $1.885
Have to start wondering just how low it is going to go.
I think it's going to be interesting as we move forward and come to those traditional times of increased travel. Last summer's fuel price spike got our attention!
It could be argued it was the straw that broke the camel's back. With the stock market in the toilet will investor's have the money to speculate and run up the oil price like they did last Spring? I'm hoping a few of them lost their shorts when the price crashed. My guess is the price of oil will continue down. It could go nearly as low as it did 10 years ago if the World economy does not rebound.
And I saw a Stinker station with $2.75 on their signboard.
I wonder if we will see $1.00 per gallon before this is all over? Maybe not as a national average, but perhaps isolated pockets here and there?
Sometimes I think we really do need some chlorine in the gene pool :confuse:
Well, today I finally filled the thing. Had I gone to the same station I would have saved a whopping 2 cents a gallon but because I was in the northern part of the county I landed Sunoco at $1.71. Life is good....
RUG = $1.93
Ultra = $2.33
If I went west of here southwest Jersey is a fair piece cheaper.
Can this drop restore any value to larger vehicles that have taken a big hit on depreciation?
San Diego gas is below $1.70 in a few places. Most of the discount places are below $1.75. Diesel is still high at $2.33 per gallon.
Ghastly is $1.79/gal for RUG here in Willcox, AZ. Once ghastly prices fall to $1.00/gal I'll voluntarily stop called gasoline ghastly.

The highest price in the U.S. right now is $3.54/gal for RUG in Kodiak, AK.
The national U.S. average right now for RUG is $1.81/gal.
Drive carefully, y'all.
