If the stars keep lining up according to Donlen Corp. I should begin to see an electronic brochure for the 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser sometime in July, because the Initial Delivery Month will be June. If the stars are fully aligned according to Donlen Corp., the 2006 Avalon electronic brochure should be available sometime in September, because the Initial Delivery Month will be August.
One other note, Toyota 2006 Highlander Hybrid Initial Delivery Month is May 2005, Toyota says the Highlander Hybrid will be on sale at your local dealer in June 2005 and I take it that the electronic brochure for the Hybrid will also be available, this also means a possible 2006 Avalon being available in September 2005.
I'm open for thoughts and comments.

There are reasons to be at least a little wary about a car that was designed, engineered and brought to market quickly (18 months) and relatively inexpensively (computer models, not real prototypes) based on what I've read. But then, maybe some are confident that fast and cheap is best. Certainly Toyota saved money in the process, and perhaps gives buyers more for their dollar by cutting costs in the design and engineering phases of the new Avalon. Newly redesigned/engineered cars often have quality or defect issues in their first year, and those problems are corrected in subsequent years of production refinement.

My local audio guy says it cannot be done because the JBL stereo system does not have a mute option which shuts off the radio when the phone rings. Anyone out there have any luck in trying to do this?

Mr. (Ms.?) Curry: Per Mr. Libertie, apply Vasoline jelly to door locks. It's inexpensive and easy to remove.

ps - I gave you all the wrong info about bug splatter removal. I said to use 10W40. DO NOT USE 10W40. That would be dumb. I meant WD40. It's the bomb on bugs. I hope no one went out and schmeared motor oil all over their hoods. Sorry."
Groza; That wasn't begging, that was anticapation. Begging would be..
Groza, Pllleaaassseeeeee hurry up and delivery my prize I reallllyyyy wannntttt sommmeeeethingggg.
OK, begging mode off. I knew when I read 10W40 that you meant WD40. I've used WD40 for years to remove road tar.
Thanks man,
MikeS.
Set your TiVo's now!
Also has anyone else had issue with the sound quality of their limited radio's with nav, without Satellite? I hear a distinctive thump every 20 seconds or so on certain FM stations in NYC that I've never heard before, not even at my desk at work.
Enjoy the show."
In the DC area MPT is carrying the show at 5PM Saturday the 30th. They list it as a 2006 model.
My main TIVO is now set to record.

Anyone else do this??? Sounds good, but.....

The 985 dollar 7yr 100K mile Toyota Platinum warranty is available for any 05 Avalon owner that wants to pony up the $985. It is available from Greenfield Toyota in Ma.

Mikey: Try taking Exlax for anticapation. Or Vasoline jelly. It's inexpensive and easy to remove.

Thanks for the advise.
I read one review recently in which the tester found several defects in the Avalon and wrote "the quality problems drop the big Toyota (Avalon) to barely average among full size sedans". Another concluded that the "fit, finish and exterior materials are a giant step down from Acura and Infiniti" and labelled the Avalon as boring. Most positive reviews even seem to suggest that the styling is not extraordinary. On an issue as subjective as styling, I have to disagree with those who don't like the look. I think the Avalon has understated good looks that will wear well. Still, I wonder about initial quality issues in an all-new product like the '05 Avalon. Time will tell. In the meantime, don't shoot the messenger, even if he has news and views that you find troubling. Impartial
Saw Bluetooth work in an Acura TL and it is seriously cool.

I have a deposit... transfered to a '06 Limited....
I'll be driving it in the fall.
(with the latest NAV system)
The article you are quoting is from the DETROIT FREE PRESS. I would be very skeptical about anything they have to say about imports. Had someone from Edmunds, Motor Trend, C&D, or R&T said something like that, that would have been more convincing. I actually got a chance to sit inside the 05 Avalon XLS and found the interior quality to be better than most of the competition. Definitely a lot better than Ford 500 or Buick LaCrosse. Having said that if you want the best possible interior then you should be prepared to shell out the dough. There is a reason Toyota makes the LS430.
Toyota's first year reliability in general has been very good. I bought a 92 Camry which was a first year redesign and didn't have any problem whatsoever in the 12 years that I had the car. Sold the car last year with 132K miles.
The NAV routing capabilities are limited primarily to major cities, so if you live in a podunk town, the NAV may be almost useless. I live in Los Angeles, & the coverage seems virtually perfect. I'm glad I was forced to get the NAV, and expect to learn how to use it fully.

Maybe there is a programming hack or something.
Also, I'm sorry we loose the original screen whwn you get the navigation system. I liked the trip time and miles feature and the outside temp. All on one sreen.
Yes, indeed - I support open critical thinking! Impartial
(warning, lecture coming )
I understand what impartial is saying. He is not saying that he just wants to see negative reviews, but he is saying that he doesn't consider PR releases to be a legitimate review and that he would like to see reviews that have some objective ideas about what might should or could have been done differently. There is nothing wrong with that viewpoint.
Impartial, it's easy enough to discount the links to PR material. Folks can certainly post those links if they'd like; just mentally blow them off when you see what they are and go on to the next post. Also, feel free to post reviews of any nature, positive, critical, whatever you can find (as long as you follow the rules of posting links, of course, which are outlined in the Rules of the Road at the top of the page.)
I think these folks are feeling criticized by you because they aren't posting reviews with any criticism in it. Maybe that's because they don't see any, maybe it's because they don't want to, but it doesn't matter - they don't have to.
The reason we are not seeing links to the kinds of reviews to which you refer is because no one is posting them. So feel free to correct the situation. :-)
And to a couple of others here, we've been through this before. This is indeed not a "support group", it is a discussion designed to do exactly what impartial is looking for. Lay out the facts - good and bad - and help folks make a decision. Nothing is perfect, there are always nitpicky at least issues with any given vehicle. Pretending like that cannot possibly be true kinda throws off your credibility, you know what I mean? How about the tailpipe issue? Not a biggie, many have had it fixed, but it illustrates my point. Nothing is perfect. If you do see something you consider to be a criticism of the Avalon, there is absolutely NO reason to take that personally and react defensively. We all have our opinions and we are certainly entitled to their differences.
Some of you must understand that people do not have to be in love with the Avalon to post in this discussion. Even though most folks posting here are thrilled with their new cars - and that's really great to see - you can't tell people not to come here if they don't happen to feel the same thrill.
Thanks!!
ROFL!!
Dang, I used all those words and wasted all that space and you summed the whole thing up in those few words. Will you be my speech writer?? :shades:
>> Many times I loved the movie even if the review was terrible and the reverse as well.
I think that is a very important statement. It also applies to cars. And it means that there is no reason why reviews from all kinds of perspectives shouldn't be linked here (again, as long as they conform, blah, blah ).
As I noted, I do think that those who want to see a broader spectrum of links need to correct what they find deficient rather than ask others to do so.
And I think the rest of us need to be careful that we don't make folks with different viewpoints feel unwelcome.
Your point about observations vs. criticisms is well taken.
Also available for about $890 plus tax (total about $910) from McGeorge Toyota, Richmond, VIrginia.

Has anyone noticed the lower Center Console squeaks more than a newlywed's bed? I've set up a service appointment with the dealer, but I was wondering if this was common.

At any rate, now my doors DO NOT lock when I shift out of Park, and they DO lock when the vehicle speed goes above 12 mph, which is the combination I wanted.
