Some DVD players (non-Sony) can play both formats, but the receiever requires 5.1 analog inputs which are usually found on higher end eqiuipment only. I do not believe the Infiniti plays SACD discs. It is more complicated than it should be due to copy protection fears and inability for any standardization on new formats.
I have no info on if they are avail in multi-channel.
No, I have heard Dark Side in SACD, however and I own DB in plain ol stereo.
Our Inifinitis will be awesome sounding, much as I hate that word.
are you serious--flim and the bb's 'big notes'!!!! wow, what a blast from the past. let me tell you a story (sorry for going ot here)....about 15 years ago my wife and i walked into an audio dealer in nyc (harvey) to buy a cd player. we sauntered into the high end audio room and a salesman came over to us. i said we were just here for a cd player and he said that's fine but can i play something for you....guess what, flim and the bb's 'big notes'....he cranked it up through some fantastic kef monitor speakers and it was the most amazing sound i had ever heard on a stereo.....needless to say we walked out of the dealer with the flim cd, a cd player, and a pair of kef 105.4 monitor speakers....i still have 3 or 4 of the flim cd's, still enjoy them..
Anyone know for sure?
Mark?
Thanks
If the key fob really has a rechargeable battery, what's recharging it?

- receive calls
- handle outbound calls over speaker if dialed from the phone
But, it cannot dial calls over voice - one of the most valuable features. Anyone else having better luck?
My M35 with chrome wheels
I also just wanted to add that I use a Motorola v710 from Verizon wireless with my M35. It works flawlessly. I have it set so that everytime I get into my M it automatically links up so all I have to do is drive and use the button on the steering wheel for calls. An unbelievably nice feature !
I'll take another pic in full sun to really show off the wheels sometime in the near future. I am the first person in my area to get a set of chromes from my dealer.
Because they cant. The disc you tried most likely played as a regular DVD in stereo. No Sony DVD or SACD player supports DVD-A in multichannel. Its the rival to the Sony SACD format, it would be like a Betamax machine playing VHS tapes.
I have several DVD-Audio discs, one of them will not play on my Pioneer Elite 57H unit, in fact when I insert the disc into this unit the unit "reboots" (this is the unit that is a combination DVD player, DVD burner and Tivo). My other DVD-Audio discs all play in my Pioneer DVD player (I have a coax cable leading from the DVD player to the Proceed AVP).
True DVD-Audio requires a DVD-Audio capable player. In my not too unbiased opinion, there is no way that the DVD-Audio disc played back as a DVD-Video would even sound as good as a regular CD (but the DVD-Video sound would be multi-channel rather than 2 channel).
Sony has, I believe, a universal player (I think I saw it in Home Theater Magazine) and it can play DVD-Audio, SACD, HDCD, CD, DVD-Video and DTS. Beats me why the Pioneer player won't play all DVD-Audio discs, unless the disc is not marked DVD-Video.
If you have a true DVD-Audio only disc, it will not (or at least it shouldn't) play back in a regular DVD player. However, if you have a combo disc (containing DVD-Audio and the soundtrack of a DVD-Video) you should be able to play it in AC 3 (aka Dolby Digital 5.1).
To underscore -- DVD-Audio is both multi channel and full frequency uncompressed, DVD-Video sound is "movie sound" quality which is not as high in fidelity as either a standard CD or DVD-Audio (or SACD).
SACD discs (at least the one's I am familiar with) also contain CD sound and will play on CD, DVD and SACD players -- only the latter will reveal the multi-channel sound however.
In the Infiniti M's, if you insert a DVD-Audio disc, it is able to detect that it is such and play it back. Also, if the car is in Park and the Brake is set, a DVD-Video (a movie, e.g.) will also play both video AND audio (the video on the screen in the dash).
If you have the interest in a little experiment, buy or rent the James Taylor DVD concert (Beacon Hall, I think is where it was shot -- NYC). Sit in the sound sweet spot in your home theater system and commence playing the disc -- when the disc's top menu opens it will ask you to pick either Dolby Digital 5.1 or CD Stereo sound. Play the disc until you are familiar with the sound (in DD). Then eject or go to the top menu and select CD sound and play the same tunes at the same volume level again. I had become so jaded and biased in favor of DD 5.1, I was convinced that the stereo mix would somehow sound lifeless and less full than the full-monty surround sound with all five speakers and a sub woofer. Boy was I wrong: plain ol stereo blows DVD-Video-Sound (DD 5.1) away. It is almost like listening to a telephone vs being there (I said almost to make the point that the sonic differences are NOT subtle.)
Both versions sound good, don't get me wrong, and if the novelty of the crowd's applause coming from behind you suits you or is your preference, you'll get no criticism from me. However, when you listen to the same songs in stereo, the sound is much fuller, the placement of the instruments and voices ("imaging" as my audiophile buddies call it) is easier to "see" audibly -- and the bass is incredible, tight and deep.
I had much the same experience when I listened to "Fourplay" in DVD-Audio in the M35x last Sunday.
Like I said, once or twice before, I love multi-channel audio, but it was, perhaps the answer to a question no one was asking. If this great advance makes it commercially it has to be the automobile that saves it, in the long run.
Does the phone number of an incoming call show up on the car's display? Also, were you able to send your phone book to the car, or did you have to manually enter numbers into the car's memory?
My concern with Verizon (since they disable the OBEX profile in the V710) is that any communication between the phone and the car is limited to headset-type use. I want a phone where I can keep it in the console or glove box, screen calls based on caller ID, and simply say "call home" (for example).
I have been under the assumption that Verizon would only allow you to use the speaker and microphone in the car during conversation, but that other features which required the transmission of numbers (like transferring a phone book, seeing caller-ID information, or speaking a phone number to dial) would not work. If I am wrong, please let me know. I have been happy with Verizon's service and coverage but am extremely disappointed in their complete and utter arrogance when it comes to bluetooth. My plan was to switch to Cingular when my contract expires.
By the way, I was on spring break for a week (we had to take the Sequoia--darn), and it took several days to catch up on the forums (M, GS, Luxury sedans). I was having a great time, but missed my M35x (except when on the coasters--now those things corner like they are on...er...rails).
Is that the M35 Sport? If not, how did you get the 19" on the standard or AWD M35? I'm looking to purchase the AWD and would love to have the 19" instead of the stock 18"s at a ridiculous dealer cost. Thanks.
PS. The chrome looks sharp..where did you have them done? and is the car the liquid silver or diamond graphite?
That will almost never fly at my house -- in the car, sure, at home, hardly.
Jus my 2 cents.
I do not have DVD-A in my house; I can play a DVD-A in DVD-Video Audio mode which is "movie sound" -- which is quite good from a multi-channel point of view. But the plain ol CD still is superior sonically to DD 5.1 in movie mode.
Perhaps if my Proceed had true DVD-A or SACD, I would sing a different tune. But the DTS discs I have do sound very good, but they, too, require the listener to sit in the sweet spot for the duration or the impact is largely lost.
A couple of questions, however; my salesman and the sales manager can't resolve either one.
1) If you lose a transmitter when away from home it appears there's no way to start the car! No, I don't plan to do it ... but hey, you never do know when something silly might happen.
2) And how do you turn off the lane departure warning alarm? Owner's manual says hold the button in for 5 seconds ... we've all tried it but can't shut the danged thing off!
Three trips back to the dealership in a week for more tech advice ... I'm gradually getting the hang of it. Absolutely love this car.
Bart
However, the main reason I responded was to compliment you on what is probably one of the best screen names I've seen in ages. I would happily use it if it weren't already taken, and there are others (who shall remain nameless) who should.
Enjoy your car.
Is this true?
I can't imagine getting any color M other than black, but if it's going to look like schlock in a few months I'd have to consider another skin.
What's the absolute best stuff to use to keep it looking new?
Thanks in advance.
:shades:
“Our marketing campaign positions the new M as a vehicle ‘Designed to Outperform,’ and with this strong initial launch success it certainly is doing just that,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division. “Our dealers garnered advance orders 40% over our target for the all-new M thanks to our extensive joint pre-launch marketing efforts. All indications show we are on pace to meet our yearly sales target and add another chapter to the Infiniti new model launch success story in the recent tradition of the G35, FX and QX56 and our record sales in calendar year 2004.”
I seriously doubt that any car manufacturer doesn't put clearcoat on all their cars.
