Got mine for $26,500 which was just a bit over the KBB invoice, but they covered the shipping costs to bring it over from 3 or 4 states away to Arizona. I was really picky about the option package and the color, so I thought it was a pretty good deal (delivered in last week of Feb).

My 2005 pre-rnner dcab (5500K) has at least 2 issues stated by others within this site. As usual, dealer will not agree these probs exist. 1) occasional (@ 12 times now) starting problem: will only fire if gas pedal is pressed while cranking. 2) Metallic "click" heard from front R & L suspension over small (not large) bumbs or road imperfections. When i bounce the front end (manually) the clicks don't occur.. this is worsening-- Also, the driver's window would shake while rolling up. The dealer DID fix the window problem. they felt so great about that... i know this is a revised model year and this truck is otherwise nice but at this point i am disappointed in Toyota.

Thanks. Pictures are so much easier than an explanation. And this person put some nice text along with the pictures.

I ordered my PIE interface today along with an adapter plug to mate up with my Dell DJ (headphone plug).

I brought my 05 double cab to the dealer to look at the metal clanking sound when the truck goes over speed hump or bump. The mechanic and I took turn bouncing on the truck and we confirm that the leaf springs banging on each other is the culprit of the noise.

They (the dealer) then proceeded to test other brand new Tacomas on the lot and they were able to reproduce it on all of them. They refuse to fix it, citing that it exists on all Tacomas, not just mine. I do agree with them. However, I don't think it's acceptible to live with the noise (no other car or truck I've driven has it). This matter must be taken up to the manufacturer. Toyota must be notified that the problem exists in the design and they must provide a remedy and fix it in future trucks.

I asked the dealer to take it up with Toyota, but they're not so inclined to do so. It's up to us the consumers now to let Toyota know of this problem. One voice won't make any noise, but if we all shout, they will notice. Anyone has any idea? I assure you, your 05 Tacoma has this problem. Just roll down your windows and go over a hump or bump or rough road. If you want it fixed, speak up!

My speedometer shows 3MPH faster than actual speed too (confirmed with radar). The dealer said it's within spec. I won't argue that, but will put in bigger tires next time (I have 16" wheels). Probably not now, but when it's time to change tires.

Thanks for the pictures, you have no idea how much that helps people like me when I go to remove my dash (this is the first time I didn't break something).

    A few questions:
With regards to the suspension noise issue, are the leaf springs the same on the TRD tacomas and the non-TRD tacomas (I should probably know this but alas I don't).

Also, with regards to audio, has anyone installed a sub in an access cab without taking up any cab room, i.e. under the rear seat. I see quite a few postings about double cab subwoofer installs behind the rear seat and I know there was a kit available for the older tacoma's to install a sub under the rear seat on extended cabs but I have yet to see anyone do it on the access cab. I would like to if possible install a small sub without making it visible to local thieves

I had posted about a similiar suspension noise on my Taco last month. I found that a couple of applications of penetrating oil on the front cab mounts ( the ones located right behind the front wheels) made the noise stop.

I don't know if we're talking about the same problem but it may solve one of your issues.

TDA is a legitimate charge paid by the dealers and can differ based on locality by anywhere from $50 to $150 from my experience. Typically larger market dealers are charged a greater amount as they have more national ads paid for by Toyota that they charge the dealers for. Many customers are not familiar with this as most manufacturers don't actually break this charge out on other makes, but Toyota does. From over 10yrs of working with Toyota's, they have always charged this to the dealers and it IS a legitimate charge, but Edmunds doesn't list it as it does vary so greatly depeding on the dealer's location, not just regionally, but locally as well.

    Hope this helps.

I have the same problem only I got a different lame excuse. Tried to say my exhaust was hitting the frame. You can clearly see that this is not the case. At any rate, I have an appointment with a different dealer. If I were you I would do the same.

    Hi guys,

I still have my rattle/wobble too!! Most of the time I don't get the noise, but it sure sounds like something in the rear passenger side access cab door. Still can't isolate it, and it doesn't seem to occur as much with a passenger in the seat. I'm going to try the penetrating oil. Will it harm the rubber bushings??

I used a brand similar to WD 40.The directions on the can stated that it was safe to spray on spark plug boots(rubber) and cables etc..

After the first application, I noticed that the noise subsided somewhat but was not completely gone. I gave it a second application the following day and haven't had the noise since.

Other than that the truck has been great. I installed the running boards to keep the front tires from throwing stones up onto paint and to date do not have any chips on the truck.

If I keep the RPM's under 2 grand, I average 19.2 to 19.5 mpg on 93 octane. I got 23 mpg the last time I drove to my camp and back (120 mi. round trip on 2 lane roads). I went to the 93 octane after I heard the valves "rattle" on regular.

    This is a great site!

    I ordered a new 2005 Tacoma 3 weeks ago.
Sport Package #4, 4WD, JBL, Long Bed, Cap, Tubes, Skid Plate. (Wish they had leather)

The dealer said 8-10 weeks delivery. Can't wait. :)

The 2006 Tacoma's are estimated to be out by mid August '05......dealers are just recieving info on them now and pricing should be out in a couple of weeks.

where are most of you guys purchasing tube steps for the access cab prerunner? The dealer wants $399. You can buy 'Westins' for $379 aftermarket. Both are simple bolt-on installations, I'm told.

    Any thoughts?

Just picked my new Toy up tonight! Loved every 30 miles of the ride home. It is a Silver Access Cab, 4WD, Auto, TRD Sport w/Tow. Looking forward to my road trip planned for the weekend, a perfect opprotunity to break it in. Now I need to pick up a tonneau, like the Extang. Anyone tried this one? If so where did you get it and how much? :)
  • ush00zush00z Member Posts: 30
I'm not sure if any dealer is able to fix it. What's the best thing are they going to do? Replace the leaf springs? That won't help. This is a design issue where the leaf springs are allowed to hit each other. If you look under the rear leaf spring, there are rust spots where the metal are hitting each other. The combination of continuing pounding and rust will lead to metal fatigue and cause suspension collpase.

The dealers won't be able to fix it because there are no parts or procedures to address the problem. Toyota itself must come up with the remedy for this model and new design for newer model. Does anyone know how to notify Toyota directly?

Look at the leaves on any brand of truck, or for that matter, Jeeps. I take it this is your first pickup?

The suspension is not going to fall off. :confuse: If leaf spring suspension scares you, check out the Honda Ridgeline or Subaru Baja, which use coil-sprung, independent rear suspension.

This truly is not the "problem" you make it out to be.

I have the extang platinum classic on my silver DC and it looks great! It was 255.00 installed at the local truck cap shop. You can get them at realtruck.com and the shipping is free for about the same price.

I will be buying a Pollished Billet Grill for my DC Black Tacoma. Has anyone bought one that they are happy with? If so what brand.
  • ftoftenftoften Member Posts: 16
autoanything.com has the platinum classic on sale for $175.00 right now. Price includes free delivery.
  • gxb159gxb159 Member Posts: 46
Soundman, how does the Extang work with the factory rail system? Does it use the rail or mount behind it? Will I still have use of the rails with the tonno rails in place?
  • lamikelamike Member Posts: 27
They do, I have the same truck except it's not 4wd. I just got it two weeks ago. The leather package is L1 or L2 depending on whether you have side curtain airbags. My truck came with 3 miles on it and 3 chips in the paint. I have an appointment to get the chips fixed next week. Other then that it's perfect. I love it! Plenty of power and no noises! And they gave me free tint all around.

    Here's the breakdown:

EJ - Jbl, GY - Curtain airbags, PK - Sport #4, RL - Daytime running lights, D0 - extra mile package w/running boards, L2 - Leather. Indigo Blue Pearl with Ash interior. DB Long Bed Prerunner.

It lists for $30,213 and I got it for $28,306. If you are looking to get one sooner ask your dealer to look for allocated vehicles. He may find it and trade with another dealer. I got mine in two weeks that way. If you are in the Texas area call Atkinson Toyota in Bryan, TX and speak with Paul Sharp. He can look for one for you. This is one of the best dealers I have ever worked with. And, this is my eight Toyota. I AM HAPPY!!! :)

Some kid driving a Honda Civic, backed into the front of my 05 Black Access Cab TRD Sport Pkg truck. And I was parked in front of my garage with the front towards the street. I now have a split in between the lights and the bumper of my truck. The paint didn't chip off or anything but the idiot said that it was pretty loud when he hit it. I know for sure that my bumper has shifted. Now guys, should I have him pay for the damage or should I just take it into the dealer to have it fixed. He didn't give me his insurance, so I assume he doesn't have any. I had the cops confirm that his DL was valid though.

What do you guys think about this?

I bought one off of Ebay but have not installed it yet. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks..

1.) Get an estimate for a proper repair.
2.) Contact him and ask him if he'd like to pay out of pocket or with his insurance.
    3.) Collect the money
3a.) Turn him in, if he dosen't pay
    4.) Fix your truck right

He hit your truck, you have his DL, he needs to pay to fix it.

DO NOT put a claim through your own insurance.

I put an Extang 'snapless' cover on my 05 Double cab in January. It cost about $200 in Saratoga Springs NY.
The shop would have installed it for me for $25, but said it would only take around 20 min.
So I put it on m self, outside while it started to snow in freezing weather. It took about 40 min. Mostly because my hands were cold and the fabric was stiff.

I used only the allen wrench that was included and had no real problems.
Now a couple of months later I've repositioned the cross bars into the 'upper setting' which makes the cover a bit tighter.
    I recommend it.

    robertblaize,
Which model are you using? Saber or Tuff Tonno? Did it mount in the rails or behind the rails? Can you still use the factory rail tie downs? Thanks!

Leather is only offered in the Gulf States. I am in Indiana. I am thinking of getting it done after market.

Mine will be Black, Taupe Int, 4WD, DC, LB, PKG #4, JBL, Tow PKG, Skid Plate, Exast Tip, Seat Covers, door sill proterors, Sport Pedals, Cap, and D-Rings $29,800

Took one for a test drive. Told him in the truck, I will only go in and order only if he gave it to me at 1% over cost. He said OK. I had my KBB prices with me. Went in and wrote it up.Easest truck buy I ever had.

Already looking at Westin Chrom Step Bars, Billet Grill of some type and Westing Chrome Bull Bar

I would like a Wheel to Wheel Chrome Step Bar for the LB, but can't find one?

Your truck will be nice. Too bad you'll have to wait for the leather. Gulf States Toyota does a nice job of it. I thought about black too but just always wanted a dark blue truck. Looks like your buying experience was good too. The first dealer I went to did not want to do any discounting. I'm glad I shopped. Good Luck!

No, this is not my first truck. My 02 Tacoma did not have this problem. The leaf spring design was different. None of the other car/truck/SUV I owned did.

If you're driving on smooth road, chances are, you don't hear anything. I have to pass thru at least 5 speed humps everytime I leave my house and I hear it louder each time. Did you take a look at the leaf springs? My truck is 3000 miles old and there are 2 rust spots forming where the end of the bottom leaf bangs on the upper leaf.

How do you know if it's not going to be a problem? Would you give me a written warranty that it won't be?

firsttacoma what dealer in IN are you dealing with?
  • nstg8rnstg8r Member Posts: 18
Hey thanks for the feedback guys.
I got an estimate, $400 bucks for the fix.
I think ill go with my insurance and have them chase after the guy. He's uninsured for sure. Vehicle belongs to his moma. My insurance will cover it under as uninsured motorist, that way I don't have to pay the deductable. We all pay for uninsured motorist so might as well use it. Best way to fix it is to go with the dealer and that's what I'm going with. OEM spec, that's what I want.

I just noticed the other day that there is no ash tray in my truck. What do you smokers do? Is there an ashtray option?

Personally, I wouldn't stink up such a nice vehicle, but that's just me. ;)

I don't smoke but would be lost without an ashtray, change ect.

I bought the factory ashtray for the tacoma on e bay, round, black, spring loaded lid, looks great.fits in the cupholder with an adapter that comes with it.
I was less than $20 on e bay.

CAN YOU SEND ME THE PICS OF YOUR TACOMA WITH THE GIRLLS? LET ME KNOW.
  • wooddorkerwooddorker Member Posts: 300
I agree with the OEM parts.

However, a $400 claim? Don't mess with your record for what I'm guessing will have the insurance company paying $150. Heck, I carry $1k deductibles.

See if he or mommy will pay up. They won't? I'd still probably pay the claim out of pocket if I had $250 deductible, which would make me chase farther.

Did the mod, thanx. I do have a question. In the picture your turn signal lights are lit up at the same time. Did you rewire them as well. If so did the heat from those lights melt the casing from being on all the time?

I would like some feed back on the sylvania replacement headlamps. They are the white lights that are supposed to be much better. I'm sure they are many different manufacturers out there. Just wondering if it's worth the money. I think they're called SilverStar.

The Snugtop XV model is available aftermarket at Snugtop dealers for the 05 Tacoma. It's just like the Supersport but with screened slider type side windows, it also has an optional pop-out T-handle that can be left unlocked - so you don't have to use the key everytime (like when at your campsite).

It looked superior than the lower end Leer but the price quoted was $1699 installed for the 6 foot model.

Any idea what a good price would be on this topper?? I was thinking to offer $1500 but I have no idea if the $1699 quote was inflated or fair.

I just had a 10" sub woofer installed and it hits fairly hard. I was hoping to get a 12" to fit but it wouldn't have allowed enough air inside a custom box, there is not that much room behind the rear seat. I posted some pics, web site below. I kept the install fairly simple only adding 6.5 comp's in the front, amp's and sub behind the reat seat I'll install an Alpine head unit once the dash kit is released by scoshe.

I pulled my radio today and installed a PIE interface for an mp3 player. The 6 disc changer radio (DZ) had an extra output for the PIE that was not being used.

Now the radio will not power on. I did disconnect and reconnect the other plugs on the back of the radio in order to determine where the PIE interface would go. I suspect there is some security feature preventing the radio from working. Anyone know how to reactivate the radio so it will power on?

    Thanks,

    John
