I am looking to pick up a set of mats/liners for my access cab. I saw the pictures posted with the Xtreme liners from Catch-All. Has anyone had first hand experience with either these of the Husky liners? I am betweeen the 2 and want to get the best coverage and looks while being easy to clean.

    imin2mx,

My truck also has a build date of 11/04 and was making the noise you are talking about. The noise went away after I sprayed penetrating oil on the front cab mounts.

You might also want to go back and check message 2305 on message page 116 or 117 in this discussion. It deals with interior cab noise being caused by the cab mounts during cold weather and mentions a teflon "washer" that is apparently installed between the cab and mount. The post also indicates that the repair is covered by Toyota tech tip 2068.

    Hope this helps

Yeah, there is a picture of the Catch-Alls in this forum somewhere. I posted it. Type in a search for "floor mats" in the forum search to get more details. I like the Catch-Alls a lot. It's nice being able to just hose them off when they get dirty. Plus they really fit the shape of the floor good, and they cover a larger area of the floor than the stock floor mats.

I think that the Husky ones are more heavy and more flexible. The Catch-alls are pretty stiff, yet light-weight, but I guess there's no real need for them to be real thick and heavy. I just liked the looks of the Catch-Alls better.

PerformanceProducts.com had the best price I could find.

What about the tens of thousands of us who do not have paint problems?

I finally got around to burning a mp3 disc. I have an 05 taco double cab v6 auto 6 disc changer jbl stereo. IT DOES NOT PLAY MP3 FORMAT! It will play discs burned by a computer in wav format, which is entirely different. You can store up to 200 songs on 1 disc in mp3 format....just wanted to clear things up!

I have the bed extender. It mounts to the side of the bed and not in the rail system.

did you have to drill any holes in your bed or did it install in pre-drilled holes?

    Wooddorker,

What color do you have? How many miles? I ordered black and hope that is not one of the problem colors. I would love to hear more from those with no problems.

I have a indigo blue TRD with about 500 miles on it. It was manufactured 4/05. No problems at all, not even minor ones. I did notice that the exhaust pipe seemed lose, but after looking at how it is attached it appears that it was designed to be able to give. :D
  • firsttacomafirsttacoma Member Posts: 18
I hope you never have any paint problems, but 500 miles is still new.
  • wooddorkerwooddorker Member Posts: 300
    Radiant Red.

The few paint problems I've heard of here were Impulse Red and Speedway Blue.

I spotted rust spots on the rear bumper right under, and in line with the sides of my license plate. It looks like water was pooling in the small corners and it got under the chrome and started to rust. I just got a new bumper out of it under warranty. Just a heads up, check it out and see if you have the same problem.

Hey guys, I've been reading through the messages in these Taco forums for awhile now and really appreciate all the great info. I took today off work to pack (I'm moving next Sunday) and around 1 decided to go pick up some lunch. I hopped on my motorcycle and decided that I should stop at the Toyota dealer for a look around while I was out ...well 2 hours later I was driving home in my brand new Taco! :D

Silver Double Cab, 4x4 TRD Sport package #2. ...I LOVE this truck! I didn't even tell my girlfriend I got it (I haven't owned a 4 wheeled vehicle in 6 years). Tomorrow I'm going to her place for a BBQ and I'm just going to show up! lol

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all the info ...and let you know I'm totally stoked!!!

    Cheers! :shades:

I have a 05 double cab 4wd LB with a 6V. What is the oil capacity in US QUARTS.I did look in the manual and think it is 5.5qts.(the manual is a tad confusing)I just want to be sure. Thanks for the help.
For anyone thinking about buying this truck. It has been nothing short of awesome.Plenty of power, roomy & handles like a race car.Very hard to stay out of the gas.MPG for me has been 19.5 in town and 21 HWY.No rattles, no leaks,no popping sounds,no chipping(I have the chrome tube steps, probably helps). So far nothing but fun.Got behind a Mini Cooper the other day going to work.He knew I was behind him and he took off at the light. My grill was glued to his back bumper from 0-90 mph! What a rush!

Honestly, thats surprising to me. Not that I doubt you at all, just that you'd think it would be really easy to make one that just uses the rails and a lot more versatile for the user. I assumed it used the rails because the new Frontier's have rail mounted extenders. I think it's a great idea because then you can adjust where it sits and even use it to hold stuff to the front of the bed.

I thought I wanted one, but now I'll wait until they come up with a rail mounted one...

I had a local after market parts dealer order me the Roll & Lock for my 2005 double cab long bed TRD Sport Tacoma. Once the cover came in the dealer said it would not fit because all four walls are not all level at the top. Now I just do not know what to do !! I need a hard cover not a cheap vinal nor a flimsy one. Have you found anything yet ?

    Schoolie,

I had the TAC3-05-PC installed the kit was only $169.99 on ebay as a special from Toy Tec Lifts. I am currently on running the same tires, but am hoping to have 32 or 33" on buy winter. I live in PA and had the kit installed at DME auto in Frederick PA for aroun $250.00 and it only took half a day for them to put it on. It should have only taken around 3 hours, but since the truck is so new, the front springs broke their spring compressor and they had to take them to another shop.

If you send me your email address I'll try to send you pictures of the lift kit.
Send it to abb1997@yahoo.com and put pic. request in the subject box.

Sorry for the delay, I was really busy at work and forgot to keep checking for replies.

It is funny you should ask. I purchased and installed the Roll-Bak bed cover. It is made of very sturdy black aluminum. It took me about 2 hours to install. I do not have any pictures of it yes but will include a link that is very accurate.

    http://www.rollbaktonneaucover.com/inc/iview/147?idx=14&p=4469

I totally love it. They say it can hold 300 pounds on top of it. It rolls back with a little resistance. IT looks awesome. Very sporty looking. I am waiting on the pop-n-lock tailgate latch locking system to complete the job so it will be lockable. Take a look...if you have any questions...just ask.

    hammaa,

The kit I had installed had a add-a-leaf and I really like it. In PA it is illegal to install block lift kits, so when you install the add-a-leaf no one can tell from the rear end that any mod's were done to the suspension. Even my toyota dealer hasn't noticed. Also the add a leaf will increase your load capacity a little.

    achilleus,

yeah the ride is a little stiffer then when I drove it off of the dealership lot. But I am very happy with the lift kit I got. I do not notice any more sway going around turns then it had at stock. They recommend getting longer shocks but it is not required and can be done at a later time if the ride is a little to rough for you. I only drive my truck on road and the lift is just for the look.

    Mocha4 and toytruck,

I have a 05 DLB Cab 4X4 Trd with a 3" lift kit on it. I had severe chiping on the rear fender in front of the rear wheels, where the bed meets the cab. I took my truck to my local dealer and told them about it. I do NO off road driving cause I see no point of ruining a $30,000 right away. They did repaint the sections that had chips off. It almost appeared that my paint was flaking off. But they would not repaint the entire truck and told me if I wanted that done, I would have to pay the extra costs. So far it has been about a week since it was repainted and I have not seen any more chips where they painted. Now for the bumpy area that is suppose to be chip proof. I have them all over and I was told it was not covered under the warrenty.

I'd like to hear from any and all about there ownership experience.

I'd especially like to hear form Midwest owners.

I'm looking for a 4X2 Longbed, anybody else have one? Are they available in the Midwest?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks,

Can you please post some pictures?? How did you decide on this tonneau cover? I am considering this cover and another called Retrax (http://rolltopcover.com/). I have a problem spending this much money and not being able to see/touch the product first. I know they have return policies, but these make the return shipping cost the responsibility of the buyer.

Hi, I have been looking around at a couple different dealers, doing the internet thing and plan to do the deed this week. I was all set on a access cab and (I hate to admit it) the dealer raised some valid points about getting the double cab. Price difference was about $1000, which in my opinion is a fair amount of money, but considering I've made it 15 yrs with my GM pickup, $1000 over 10-15yrs, not a big deal. Anyone with the Access wish they bought a double? Kind of more truck than I wanted, trying to down size from the full sized GMC, but I'd hate to kick myself should the family grow over the next several years...Too bad to hear about more chipping problems. I'm torn whether or not to get tube steps or not. Keep going back and forth. I've cussed them on other trucks when my pant leg catches on it, but between the chips and parking lot dings, it may not be such a bad idea. Any thoughts from anyone one way or the other? How about differences between stock and other after market brands? Thanks for any info/opinions...

    riverrat1,
I have an access cab and love it, its great for me, a friend (and a dog in the back with the seats folded flat). However the few times I've had more than two people in the truck the rear seat gets very uncomfortable very quick. Don't get me wrong it's not bad for a midsized truck, but if I were carrying more than two people for more than 15 minutes or so on a regular basis it would be worth it to pay the extra 1000 for the double cab. Thankfully its usually just me and the dog.
  • bjw1bjw1 Member Posts: 152
I bought a double cab in feb, and it fits me well, has plenty of room for passengers, or cargo, access cab would fit well if used as a two passenger truck because the rear seats are uncomfortable, but the rear seats on the double cab are much better, i had a 04 access cab and traded it in for the 05 dbl cab because of it was much better, i would hate for you to buy a ccess cab only to need more room down the road, but hope you get one that fits you.

I dont have any pics of the cover...it looks exactly like the pics on the web site. The cover you are looking at looks like a nice cover as well. The only problem is that the cover does not slide back smoothly sometimes...but I will try to fix that. I think both covers will be a fine choice.

It is getting hot here is albuquerque (95 degrees) and with premium gas (91 octane) my v6 2005 taco dc auto is pinging. Has anyone else had this problem? If so did the dealer help? Thanks

  • bjw1bjw1 Member Posts: 152
hello, well i am in vegas and it was 105 today and did not notice pinging with 89 last time i got gas, in fact with the warmer weather i seem to get up 20 mpgin city, that was in the 80's now that i will be blasting the ac i will find out when i fill up again, but no pinging with me.
  • volleyvolley Member Posts: 298
Yes I think it would be really cool if it were rail mounted also and could be adjusted along the lenth of the bed; but I guess that's what the cargo divider is for which does mount in the rail system. That might be an option for you.

Just curious about the lenght of the truck overall. With DC and LB, is it really long in length? Any problem parking and turning around? I Haven't owned a truck before. Thanks

According to a dealship down here in Louisiana, they expect the '06 to hit the dealships around October, and yet they do not have any info on them at this time.
  • imin2mximin2mx Member Posts: 27
Thanks ftoften. That sounds just like mine. I live in Florida and it doesn't really get cold. However, I still hear the noise. At first I thought it was just normal tire noise but it happens with my new tires as well (but only on dips/depressions in the road)

I have a black DC Prerunner with a 12/04 build date and I have a few paint chips on the front of the rear fenders. I bought some touch-up paint and took care of them. The dealer said they were normal rock chips were not warranted. So far no other problems with my truck. I really enjoy driving it. The only problem is having to wash it twice a week. The black color shows dirt badly. Hope you enjoy your new truck when you get it. :)

I have a double cab long bed and installed a Retrax roll up bedcover about 2 months ago. I've been very happy with it. It does leak a little but only around the top of the tailgate and not much. About the only complaint I have with it is the box that the top rolls up in is made of thin walled Aluminum and dents easily. I still haven't put a tailgate lock on as I'm waiting on the electric locks so I can tie into the keyless entry.

I just purchased a Truxedo lo pro tonneau cover. It only took 20 minutes to install. It looks and work great. It is really simple to use. I would definitely suggest this tonneau cover.

Does the Truxedo fit with the rail system and can you still use the rail system with the cover. Thanks....
  • juliagooliajuliagoolia Member Posts: 14
The truxedo cover has 3 clamps that slid in the tacoma rail and yes you can still use the rail, but only between the clamps.

i have a d cab 05 white with 1500 miles have the tubes on it, TRD
/wtow. I have no paint or other problem, I do believe that the toyota tubes will help on paint chipping. If I have any problems will let people know, vehicle made in 04/05 and it took 6 weeks to get it. :D

Has anyone else heard this howling noise ? On my truck when there is a headwind or crosswind and we are above 80 MPH there is a howling noise in the center of the windshield. It sounds like a fuel pump failing or an electric motor burning out and seems to be due to the lousy way Toyota chose to seal the top of the windshield and air getting up under it. I wonder if there is a cure short of changing the whole moulding or gluing the existing one down in place. I am also currently getting around 16 miles to the gallon on 87 unleaded on the road. Hope that gets better. As for the rear suspension spring clanking noise when going over speed bumps it appears that this was a problem in several earlier models and you'd think with a complete redesign it would be the time to address this. Has anyone tried any other shock or air packages on the rear it seem to me this might help if you stiffened it up ? We also have an electronic noise that appears to come from the instrument cluster area sometimes. Has anyone heard this either ? It makes you wonder, DID ANYONE AT TOYOTA DRIVE THIS TRUCK IN THE REAL WORLD BEFORE THEY WRAPPED UP THE DESIGN ? COME ON GUYS !!!! :(

I have the same problem. New 05 taco, just got last week. Noticed 2 rust spots right under each side of license plate on rear bumper. Right in the upper corners of the two outer holes in the top of bumper. looks like slight cracks there. Just e-mailed the dealer to tell them, I'll see what happens. Doesn't look right to me.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
You might want to watch where the license plate rubs up against the paint on the lower edge of the plate. I have the Sport (painted bumper) and when I detailed my truck I took the license plate off; when i did I saw some scratches where the license plate was vibrating against the bumper. These scratches could be going through the paint and expose bare metal and then rust. So I got some foam weather stripping and stuck it on the back of the plate to keep it from rubbing on the bumper.

I've had mine for about four weeks now and have 1500 miles on it with no problems with paint chipping. Here's a picture.

Those pictures look sharp. I have been waiting for the Nasta bars to come out but they keep saying 2 more weeks. After seeing your pic's I think I will order a set of those. What place did you order them from for $395? The places that I have found are over $400 by quite a bit. TIA

I have a DC, SB, 4X4 SR5, 5A, build date 3/05 silver. I love it so far. Have installed tube steps and have no paint problems. Also no water leaks and that has been well tested with two weeks of rain in the North East. On the first four tanks of gas (always 91-93 octane) I have consistently gotten 19.9-20.0 mpg on just local driving with a little interstate. My only complaint is that on EVERY tank of gas so far, the check engine has come on once. All I have to do is open the gas cap and retighten it, and it goes away. I am always careful to tighten the cap to ratchet at fill. I suspect I may have a defective cap. It happens anywhere from 3/4 to 1/4 gauge. Has anyone had this experience?
