Has anyone had trouble with their brakes pulling to one side or the other? my double cab long bed TRD pulls to the right under moderate to heavy breaking. It has been doing it for a few thousand miles (have 6,000mi.) It also has a pull to the right when driving. Dealer is going to look it over on Thurs. he says under the 3yr 36,00mi warranty you get one free alignment. I hate to use it so early but it pulls on a new truck 4 months old. The dealer also said I have to pay for the loaner car if the warranty work is less than $250. Anyone know more about this? Love the truck just little stupid stuff like this is a pain.

My dealer told me that it was only the fan making the noise till it warmed up. It is loud.

Have you checked your tire pressures with an accurate guage?

the DC long box is 18 1/2 feet, the DC short box is a little more than a foot shorter.

I have the seat covers (sport). They are a nice thick material...I haven't really had to experience them in hot weather yet, but I believe they are going to be hot. I do recommend them though. They have a tight fit about them, so you don't have to worry about them moving around at all. Sorry, I don't have any pics.

I read a lot about the TRD seat covers but I haven't seen any talk in regards to seat covers for the bench seats. I have a 05 Taco reg cab with bench seats and can't seem to find good quality seat covers for them like the TRD seat covers. I really don't want to buy the ones off the shelf, they seem to be cheap and don't fit as well as the TRD's that everyone is talking about. Anyone find good quality seat covers for the bench seats? Appreciate any suggestions...Thanks! :)

I just took my '05 Access Cab 4x4 to Firestone for its first alignment and when I got the report back on before and after specs, it showed that they had used the specs for 2001 and up. They didn't let it get in their way that this truck is 8" wider, 5" longer, has shocks mounted outside the frame instead of inside, etc. and just went ahead with it using last year's specs. Toyota was closed by the time I got it back, but will check in the morning.

Anyone have experience with this yet? Know how if any differences there are from the '01-'04 Tacomas and the 2005? Any help is appreciated and will probably be welcomed by others.

Hey volley, did you ever get that new part number for the redesigned skid plate? I've seen two part numbers for them PT212-35051 and PT212-35050. I ordered the ' '51 part. Let me know if you have the info on it. If its the wrong one I'd like to cancel before it's shipped.

You also have the Wade hood protector? How do you like it, any problems, is it all one piece that mounts under the hood or does it have brackets like the OEM toyota protector?
  • johnnybgood15johnnybgood15 Member Posts: 3
has anyone has toyota install aftermarket leather on the tacoma? I am ordering a taco with the sport package and have only seen the offroad interior. Hows is the interior on the sport package? Also if anyone has had the aftermarket leather installed by toyota how is the quality?

    Thanks
  • volleyvolley Member Posts: 298
boone88rr - I will post the part number when I get to work. For some reason I have the paperwork there.

As for the Wade hood protector. I love it and I think it looks great. It is one piece and mounts under the hood using the pre drilled holes that are already there. Installation took all of 5 minutes tops. I would definitely recommend it.

Alright, I've tried, and failed. I put all the blame on my computer. I couldn't find anything on the optional skid plate redesign. no pictures or descriptions or anything.

I had better luck with the bug deflectors and found that other than the one Toyota offers, Lund and Ventshade off models for the 05 Taco. I wasn’t however able to find an 05 for the Wade. You wouldn’t happen to have a picture you could load, would you?

I ordered the aftermarket leather on my 05 DC Taco. It was installed at the distribution center (Houston, TX area) along with my wheel upgrade and hitch. The leather is great. They add a gel pad under the leather that makes it really comfortable and the leather appears to be a high grade. It was well worth the extra $900 bucks. :)
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
I couldn't find any info on the redesign either but when looking at different parts suppliers I noticed two different part numbers for what is supposed to be the same OEM skid plate part.

volley had a pic of the Wade deflector, type in "skid plate pic" and search, it will come up.

Thanks for the info on the Wade deflector, I think I made the right choice. I don't know but those brackets scare me on the OEM part and I couldn't find any good info on how the Lund and Auto Focus brands mounted.

Also, thanks for looking up the part number to the skid plate, it will save me from developing an ulcer. :)

Here is the pic I found of the Wade deflector on a '05:

    image

I ordered mine from deflectors4less.com. With the "free shipping" it ends up being about the same price as any others I've seen so far.

I would agree completely. I thought the $900 was a little steep, and wasn't going to go for it. But, the dealer I was dealing with, said that they had a truck exactly like I wanted, except it was a Prerunner, and it had leather, and that I could come test drive it if I wanted.

Got there to test drive it, and couldn't believe how nice the leather was. I thought since it was somewhat "aftermarket," that it would be poor quality, and not fit right. Well, after seeing it, and riding in it, my mind was soon changed. (I think they had that truck there on purpose!)

I have noticed that the driver's side seat on the left side is getting a little, how do you say it, "leathery?" It's probably from sitting on the left edge of the seat when getting in the truck. I probably just need to use the conditioner that came with the truck for the leather seats.

I also left a chilled Camelback in the back seat (a no-no), and it sweated through the pack, and got the seat damp. The next day, when getting in, there was a strange smell, but after I removed the Camelback, and let it dry, everything looks fine, no stains or marks or smells anymore (thank God).

So, is it worth it, I'd say yes. My last car had cloth seats, and I prefer these over the ones I used to have. You just have to be extra careful about putting sharp edged stuff down in the seats. :P

Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket compass/thermometer for an 05 Tacoma access cab?
    Thx

Not sure where you'd mount it, but this one caught my eye - Wayfinder v2020 digital compass (available at www.autoanything.com). It's not made for Tacoma's specifically, but it is wireless.

Yes I have the towing package and the running boards come with the D0 package from Toyota. You'll love your truck when you get it! This thing is built well and has plenty of power. Hope yours comes in on time.

I agree that the leather upgrade is nice. I have had mine for about 5 weeks and it's excellent quality and very comfortable. My only complaint is that I have ash and I wish it was a little darker.

Just got my Consumer Reports July issue. They tested the Tacoma,Ridgeline,Frontier,Dakota, and Colorada. The Honda came in first, the Frontier second and the Tacoma third, followed by the Dakota and Colorado. A stiff ride, seat comfort and driving position were the main knocks on the Tacoma but this was a double cab TRD off road package which they noted does ride stiffer than the normal suspension. They got 17 miles per gallon overall which was the best of the group with the Ridgeline and Frontier only getting 15 mpg. The Tacoma was easily the best of the group in 0-60 times at 7.6 seconds. The Ridgeline and the Tacoma were the only "Recommended" of the bunch, largely due to Honda's and Toyota's better than average predicted reliability. The Tacoma was rated the best off road capability of the group. (Disclaimer-I have a Tacoma on order).

Hey guys, I picked up my DeeZee running boards / steps for my '05 DC yesterday. My buddy and I installed them, but the middle holes wouldn't line up (the ones my buddy was doing) and it looks like he mangled the threads in the top, middle hole trying to get the bolt to thread in. I'm talking about the threaded hole in the truck, not the threads on the bolt.

Is there some way to tap/fix the threads? I'm amazed that Toyota used a threaded insert that is softer than the bolts they provide. I'm also shocked at the poor engineering that went into the mounting bracket at the front; I expected more from DeeZee. The bottom, front hole in the bracket is right next to where the bracket runs at an angle, and the shoulder of the bolt has no clearance. Basically, the shoulder of the bolt is the only thing touching the bracket, and only in a very small area. :(

Right now I only have 5 of the 6 bolts in on the driver's side as I can't get a bolt into that hole.

    Any suggestions?

Otherwise I like the look of the steps & hope they will prevent me from having any of the chipping problems others have experienced. I've had no problems so far though, for the record, my truck was manufactured 5/15/05.

    Thanks,
    -Z

I have been looking for a set of the Westin Platinum nerf bars. I have looked all over the internet and no one seems to carry them for the 2005 Tacoma yet. I have read and seen pictures here on this Forum of some installing them on their trucks. I was wondering if someone could help me out and tell me where they purchased them and how much $$. Thanks for any and all help you can give me. Joe

Do a google search for the platnium steps. I found them at a few different places, but a place nearby matched internet prices. I got mine for $300 they were easy to install. Good luck!

How do you get the tube to stay in between the seat and back rest? Mine keeps popping out.

Anyone have experience with Child Seats in the back of an 05 Access Cab? I have a 91 Extended cab and the kid's a little crowded in the back. My apologies to those who feel this is a slight on the purpose of this truck. Trust me, I spend plenty of time in the mud after I drop her off at daycare.
  • wooddorkerwooddorker Member Posts: 300
"Anyone have experience with Child Seats in the back of an 05 Access Cab?"

I don't have kids, but most dealers will gladly try _your_ seat in the back of a truck.
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
I don't have kids either, but there is enough room for an adult back there. There is built-in child seat anchors in the back passenger side. And the manual has detailed pictures and instructions on how to strap-in multiple types of child seats. The jump seats fold down to make a flat surface and then you put the seat on that, I imagine that the access cab doors would be a big help getting 'em in and out. More time to go play in the mud. ;)

Just my luck, I ran the search for the optional skid plate, the post came up, but the picture wouldn't load. But that Wade deflector really looks slick! I order one, can't wait to slap it on the truck!

    Thanks fella's

A reporter is interested in pickup buyers’ views on the Japanese offerings – both people who would definitely consider a vehicle like a Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan or Honda Ridgeline as well as people who wouldn’t – and why or why not?

Please respond to jfallonedmunds.com with your daytime contact information and a few words summarizing your opinion no later than Wednesday, June 8, 2005.

I have an access cab and I love it. One difficulty I found though is that it is very hard to access the rear seats when some is parallel parked next to you. The doors open fine but because you are blocked in on all sides you can't take your Rubbermaid container out of the back seat and place it in the bed. You have to place the Rubbermaid container on the small ground space by your feet so the door can pass over it, then close the door. Then pick it up and place it in the truck bed. It is a real pain when you have multiple Rubbermaid containers...

Got my 05 4X2 2.7L Indigo Ink Taco Access Cab Sr5 2 weeks ago and love it.
I was made in Cal 04/05 and I hope they have fixed all the little problems I have read about on here. So far no leaks or rattles or chips but it did have a dint in the back quarter, which was removed without a problem.

I only problem I have is it looks like they put the rims and tires from a mid sized car on it (215/70R/15) my old Cutlass had bigger and better tires on it. Has anyone put bigger rims and tires on one of these yet and what if any problems did they run into changing the speedo to get a proper reading. I was thinking of going to something like a 245/75R/16(or bigger) that would be an increase of about 3 inches. This is just my truck/car so I don’t need some big off road thing I just want it to look better.

I love everything else about the truck.

    This is a great site.
Thanks to everyone for all the info i have found here,

As a follow up to this, I got a call from my salesman and he said Southeast Toyota told him my truck would be a 2006 model. Looks like any custom orders from here on out might be 2006s. I was happy to hear that, hate to wait months to get mine and then find out 2 weeks later the 2006s are out.

I know this topic was discuss a few weeks back. Has anyone made any progress with installing a rack on the bed of there truck?
  • ronc2ronc2 Member Posts: 8
Was it a prerunner? I though for the SR5 that they had 16's on them? What does your sticker say the tires are supposed to be? Around here all the Taco's have 16" rims. I have only heard the dealer talking about the base mod having the 15", but have not seen one yet.
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
Yup that's the one I ordered from them. They have the best prices I've seen and it's going to be delivered in less than a week from when I ordered it. Thanks for confirming that for me. I have seen a few internet dealers trying to sell the 35050, probably got them real cheap from somewhere and pawning them off to the unsuspecting. My 35051 should be in on Tuesday. Sweeeet. :shades:
  • jkjohnjkjohn Member Posts: 11
Thanks for the warranty info. You save me $290-. The best price I had found on the Toyota Platinum 7yr 75,000mile -0- deductible was $920- (which I had ordered a week ago and was able to cancel). The price for the same warranty at your recommended dealership was $630-.
  • burfalburfal Member Posts: 7
I wish it was the prerunner.
It is just the base model 2.7 access cab SR5 with 4 speed auto.

The parts guy said to talk to the tire guy about it.
I'm on my way to see a tire guy today to see what I can find out.

I am hopping the maybe the sensor or gear drive on my tranny could be changed to one from a 5 speed auto that had 16's on it.

I really don't want my speedo to be out, all I need is the wife to get a ticket because the speedo is out on the new truck. I would never hear the end of it.

I will post what I find out incase anyone else is interested.
  • ruskastudruskastud Member Posts: 34
Could someone post some pics of the new and the redesigned skid plates? I sure I could find them somewhere on the net if I looked, but I'm lazy.... :)
  • dcab1dcab1 Member Posts: 15
were did you buy the warranty and did you ask for one with more miles?
  • jkjohnjkjohn Member Posts: 11
I bought the warranty from Toyota of Greenfield, MA. Their price on the 100,000 mile, 7yr, -0- deductible was $875-. Since I only put on about 9000 miles/yr, the 75,000 one worked for me.

:lemon: I have a 2005 Tacoma Double Cab, TRD 4X4 with a 3" toytec lift kit installed on it. I have been having problems with the paint peeling off of the bed, in front on the wheels. This problem was fixed by the dealer, but they only spot painted. I also had problems with stone chips on all four doors and door jams. This problem was also fixed by them.....BUT now the paint looks like CRAP. You can see where they tried to fade the paint together and it also appears they clear coated over some dust. The paint appears blochey and like I said looks like CRAP. I contacted 1800-lemon-law and am in the process of filing a claim against Toyota for the paint. Am I will make my dealer repaint the doors again, or I will drive it through their dealership doors.

Here yah go Mr. Lazy!! It ain't my truck, but you'll get the idea. Also, correct me if I'm wrong( which i'm no stranger too!) I believe the redesign had to do w/ a mounting problem, not "the look" of the plate.

    http://toyota.com/vehicles/2005/tacoma/exterior.html

Cool site..360 views..some clips, stats, etc....This site was one of the reasons I traded my

Thanks for your help on this. I never did find any on the net so I called the factory and they said that they are indeed already manufactured and any place that updates their parts books with 2005 should have them. Armed with a part number for the Platinum series nerf bars I called my local small town Car Quest parts store and they ordered them for me. The part number if any one is interested is 26-2670. I paid $305 + shipping and Wisc. sale tax. Joe

Does anyone know if there is a such a thing for this truck? from what I know it's just K&N that makes one but I'm not too fond of the K&N filter.. Just got a Double cab 4X4 TRD off road and am LOVING it.. just want to give it a bit more flow and better filtration than the paper element they have on it now..
  • ruskastudruskastud Member Posts: 34
Thanks.. I was under the assumption that is was aphysical redesign, not just a technical change. Thanks though!!

I had the exact same problem with the running boards I bought from the dealer. I took them right back, and had them order me a different set. The new set mated exactly with the holes on the truck.
