for those who want to do a couple of cheap mods ($400 total)..its the most bang for the buck (imo).
btw, got the kn air through fox performance.
To remove any sticky residue, you can use polish or wax to help remove it or you can spray some WD-40 on it and let it soak in, then just rub it off. It may take a few applications. After the residue is all gone use some alcohol to remove the oil that the WD-40 leaves.
After doing this I just use my fog lights as daytime running lights.

I have an appointment on the 14th to get the ticking sound in the rear of the cab looked into, and have the tires rotated, and have the cruise control looked at. Not sure if they will be able to do all this in a timely manner, so they said they would provide a rental (not bad from the time I bought the truck, they said they didn't provide free rentals, however, this is a different dealership).
Oh, the HOSTS are just doing their jobs. For sale items in a thread such as this are annoying. I do admit that the rules as far as posting links to other sites with forums is a bit extreme, but have decided to live with the fact. I was really irritated when my entire post was deleted, just because I posted a link to another site that had a forum, but after a long debate, and several e-mails later, I think I actually agreed with what they were trying to say...and they did it in a nice way (even when I was pretty irritated about the situation).
Please respond and thanks!

I shopped around for after-market boards and found that the Tacoma boards were the least expensive. The dealer also mailed me a coupon for 20% off on parts and a free oil change, etc. but I had already purchased the boards. They would have only been around $240.00 with that discount. Went on really quick into factory mounting holes.
Go to the Snug Top website, click on the Super Sport Canopy, and scroll down to their picture of an impulse red double-cab tacoma. It has the boards on it if you look real close. Since my Tacoma Prerunner with the TRD-2 package doesn't have chrome bumpers, the black looks sharp.
If you go with tubes, I would suggest flat black, not chrome.
Thanks!

If a dealer salesperson doesn't work on commission, he/she would likely be willing to sell a truck for the invoice price or below. Salespeople who don't make a specific percentage profit off each sale will generally just earn a flat rate for each vehicle sold (in addition to their yearly salary). So, a non-commission salesperson wants to move as many trucks as possible, and doesn't care as much about the selling price.
I found the Toyota Tube steps on ebay for $310 plus $20 S&H (Item 7982932797). They are painted silver and should look OK on my truck.
I really thought it would look nice with the Owens Painted to match running boards available from boards4less.com for $440. They look sweet, but I'm worried about durability of fiberglass boards in the AZ sun! Plus installation requires some drilling and they mount to the body underside (not the frame). They hold 250-300 lbs. I'm not real excited about the installation, but they look super in the photos.
Anyone have any experience with either the Toyota tube steps or the Owens painted fiberglass running boards?
Thanks for any inputs!!! - Jack

There is also another version that Eclipse is making that has a built-in hard drive for storing thousands of songs, no need to carry around CDs.

I upgraded my speakers to JL Audio component sets, and put the speaker inside a foam enclosure. Door speakers will sound much better if they have a proper enclosure behind them, and not just the interior of your door. The area behind the speaker is just as important as the front of the speaker. Plus an enclosure will protect the back of the speaker from moisture that gets inside the door through the bottom seal that lets the window roll up and down.
I use these

If you don't want to do that, just get some generic door lock actuators and rig up something that attatches to the stock linkage. I've done it before on other cars. It's just trial and error getting it to work. There are usually just 2 wires to operate it. It moves in and out depending on which way the polarity is going through the wires.
The interface sounds great. My only gripe about the interface (all brands do this) is that the ipod display goes blank and you can't control it with the click wheel. Instead, you have to use your cd controls. You can only control 6 playlists. So you pretty much have to memorize what you have or put your ipod on shuffle and play roulette. If you're a control freak with your ipod, this ain't for you. You also can't have a cd in your player if you have the single disc player and no changer.
The good news is that the interface also has an auxiliary input. So if you really want to control your ipod with click wheel or remote, you can connect this way. Then you'll have to power your ipod with a power adapter. Of course, you can also use this to connect MD player, DVD, sat radio, Walkman, etc.
Street Machine Systems is coming out with an additional piece for this interface that will allow you to switch back and forth from auxiliary to ipod. That way you don't have to unhook one. I believe this will be out in a month or so.
I'm hoping that I can learn to deal without the ipod display/click wheel. It's a million times better than using that damn iTrip! Especially since I live in SoCal and the reception sucks.
The Pro Clip holder is way cool. NO DRILLING!
I love it. It sounds great. The volume is perfectly matched when i switch between radio/cd/iPod. Charges it up and turns itself off after the truck is off for 20 min. Best of all it was 70 bucks and took 10 min to install.
Still may get the Pro Clip but I don't think I need it. I wired the connector through the center console so I can either store the iPod in a cupholder or just rest it on top since I have it in a silicon shell it doesn't slide.
Highly recommended.
Today Dealer offered me $20,200.00 to trade it in on a '05 Tundra. I love the tacoma except for one thing, I didn't notice when i test drove it but I seem to be a bit too tall ,the roof is too low (or I am too high), sometimes i have to lower my head to see what color the signal light is. I thought about finding seats that sit lower but... what a hassle! I am just curious has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for Listening
I have a 2005 Tacoma Access Cab, 4X4, V6 in white. I have owned the vehicle since April, and have noticed that if it rains, I get black streaks running down the side. The streaks are under the front corner of the of the access window. If the vehicle under goes several rains showers before I wash it, the streaks will go to the bottom of the cab. They look really horrible.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but on really windy days, I can hear the wind whistling around these windows. Do any of you guys have this problem?
Thanks for your assistance in advance!
Randy
