I too would like to wire my fogs to come one independently of the other lights. Thanks for the tip, looks easy enough, however what is that wire connected to? it looks as though its just kinda hanging. Another question - Do you know how to get the DRL's (daytime running lights) to come on, I dont have it as a option but I would like to know if there is a simple way to accomplish this. It looks as though Toyota has followed suit with GM whereby the DRL's are the parking lights extra bright during the day. Actually in the case of the Taco, I think if I could illuminate the turn signal lights(in the grill area) that would look best and be most effective.

    TIA

i have the kn intake with flowmaster exhaust and have not experience any problems..did the muffler first and had mixed feelings about it- thought it sounded a bit tinney, after i installed the kn air filter (the cone is huge) i was wildly impressed..the sound is really impressive and power is Very noticeable..dyno chart says it adds a little over 10 h.p. (for air)
for those who want to do a couple of cheap mods ($400 total)..its the most bang for the buck (imo).
btw, got the kn air through fox performance.

1500 rpm, how slow do you drive on the highway? My 4x4 Dcab LB is at 2000 rpm at 70mph speed limit around here is 65. I think the rpms should be lower at highway speeds real highway speeds 65-70. How drives 55 anymore. Most state speed limits are at least 60-65. Epa needs to change there testing numbers so people get an accurate reading of mpg. Ok said enough!

Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the decal and that will soften the adhesive and then just pick at the edge and try to pull it up. To remove a plastic "badge" heat it up and then try to get some strong thread or tooth floss behind it, and then kind of saw it off with a back and forth motion.

To remove any sticky residue, you can use polish or wax to help remove it or you can spray some WD-40 on it and let it soak in, then just rub it off. It may take a few applications. After the residue is all gone use some alcohol to remove the oil that the WD-40 leaves.

I bent the terminal of the relay out so I could attatch a spade connector to it, then I soldered the wire to that red fuse, which is powered when the ignition is on. That way the lights will come on anytime that the ignition is on, and go off automatically when I turn the key off. You can still use the switch inside the cab to turn the fog lights on and off. The wire can be small because it is a low current " relay turn-on" wire.

After doing this I just use my fog lights as daytime running lights.

My dealer just installed a 'suspension kit' (no part number available yet) which is nothing more than pair of rubber strips with some sort of self-adhesive on one side so the pad can be attached to the spring. They are installed on the top of the load spring to prevent the noise heard when this spring slaps the spring just above it. The regional rep said it was the same type of 'fix' they used to use on the T100. This seems to have taken care of the problem although I'm not convinced it is the correct fix. Wonder how long the rubber will last?

LOL, I noticed the same thing this morning. I looked down at 70MPH, and noticed the RPM at 2000. There is no way I'm going to drop out of overdrive when going that fast, let alone 75 or higher.

I have an appointment on the 14th to get the ticking sound in the rear of the cab looked into, and have the tires rotated, and have the cruise control looked at. Not sure if they will be able to do all this in a timely manner, so they said they would provide a rental (not bad from the time I bought the truck, they said they didn't provide free rentals, however, this is a different dealership).

Oh, the HOSTS are just doing their jobs. For sale items in a thread such as this are annoying. I do admit that the rules as far as posting links to other sites with forums is a bit extreme, but have decided to live with the fact. I was really irritated when my entire post was deleted, just because I posted a link to another site that had a forum, but after a long debate, and several e-mails later, I think I actually agreed with what they were trying to say...and they did it in a nice way (even when I was pretty irritated about the situation).

Dash kits?? Is this so you can replace the factory radio? You mentioned not until Dec.....but yours will be there by Tues. or Wed. Please clarify...Thanks, Mike

Has anyone added an amp to the factory stereo in the 2005 Tacoma? I guess the mounting kits are still not available.

    Please respond and thanks!

I have the same truck. Got the hood scoop with the TRD - 2 package and a Snug Top Super Sport canopy on the back. Hardly a day goes by without someone coming up to me and saying how nice the truck looks.

I shopped around for after-market boards and found that the Tacoma boards were the least expensive. The dealer also mailed me a coupon for 20% off on parts and a free oil change, etc. but I had already purchased the boards. They would have only been around $240.00 with that discount. Went on really quick into factory mounting holes.

Go to the Snug Top website, click on the Super Sport Canopy, and scroll down to their picture of an impulse red double-cab tacoma. It has the boards on it if you look real close. Since my Tacoma Prerunner with the TRD-2 package doesn't have chrome bumpers, the black looks sharp.

If you go with tubes, I would suggest flat black, not chrome.

I think this was asked earlier.......

If a dealer salesperson doesn't work on commission, he/she would likely be willing to sell a truck for the invoice price or below. Salespeople who don't make a specific percentage profit off each sale will generally just earn a flat rate for each vehicle sold (in addition to their yearly salary). So, a non-commission salesperson wants to move as many trucks as possible, and doesn't care as much about the selling price.

Help! I'm trying to decide between the Tube Steps and paint matched running boards for my 2005 Prerunner Double Cab Sport (Speedway Blue).

I found the Toyota Tube steps on ebay for $310 plus $20 S&H (Item 7982932797). They are painted silver and should look OK on my truck.

I really thought it would look nice with the Owens Painted to match running boards available from boards4less.com for $440. They look sweet, but I'm worried about durability of fiberglass boards in the AZ sun! Plus installation requires some drilling and they mount to the body underside (not the frame). They hold 250-300 lbs. I'm not real excited about the installation, but they look super in the photos.

Anyone have any experience with either the Toyota tube steps or the Owens painted fiberglass running boards?

Thanks for any inputs!!! - Jack

On a double cab, the fronts are 6X9" and the rears are 6.5". But when I replaced my speakers I made adapter plates so I could put 6.5" in the front as well as the rear. I used a 6.5" component set that have better sound quality than 6X9s.
  • jackhammer1jackhammer1 Member Posts: 13
Did you just replace the speakers or the deck also?
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to buy that new dash kit and replace the radio with a double-din Eclipse head unit that has a 6.5" screen, DVD and navigation.

Here's a pic of the dash kit from American International.

I've added an amp to my factory system. It sounds much much better. I installed a 4-channel Rockford Fosgate. I have not changed the head unit because I like having the 6-disc changer.

"pb2themax" - Can you tell me/us a little more about the new head unit that you're going to get? It sounds like something I'd be very interested in for my 2005 Toyota Tacoma(which probably means it's not allowed in the 2005 Toyota Tacoma forums...) Thanks!!

Go to Ebay or Google and search for: Eclipse AVN5435

There is also another version that Eclipse is making that has a built-in hard drive for storing thousands of songs, no need to carry around CDs.

Can someone please find out exactly what needs to be done? Unfortunately we are all in different states, experiencing the same problem. If the is a Service Bulletin to reference - GREAT! Please provide it... but I would settle for where/what/how to fix. TACO owners, let's help eachother out!

I got the JBL package with my DC and was wondering if anyone knows if the front and rear speakers are upgraded too or are they just the same stock speakers that one would get in all of the DCs. I'm satisfied with the sound but knowing if the speakers can be upgraded, it would sound even better.

thanks for your feedback and comments

can someone tell me where speedometer sensor is located
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
I'm not sure about these newer vehicles, but on some older vehicles that I have owned there is a cable that runs down to the transmission, and connects to a gear inside.
  • rlbtacomarlbtacoma Member Posts: 5
Not sure, but alot are using electronic speedometers now, no cable like the older models. There should be an electrical wire running to a sensor in on the transmission.

I may be wrong, but JBL is mainly in the speaker business. Not really sure if they make any audio equipment. So I would have to assume the speakers are not the same as stock. I too have JBL in my truck and think they sound pretty good. I'm in the car business. Even with luxury cars most sound systems are not that great. I'm with BMW and in my opinion our sounds sytem isn't nothing to write home about, even harmon kardon. Logic seven excluded. Try different cds, some sound so much better than others. I've had several good aftermarket systems, but for the 500 extra, you can't beat it. Plus it's all under warranty.

Try this. Keep your shifter in OD and engage the CC. When the truck starts up a hill and downshifts, move the shifter to 4. if it is really moving to third, you should feel it upshift back to fourth. IF the transmission is still like it used to be, the torque converter locks between every shift after second. The first "shift" is actually releasing the converter, and the second is the shift from fifth to fourth. It is really dramatic sounding, but it is only one gear.
  • srandytsrandyt Member Posts: 35
That sounded plenty confusing. Sorry. If you let the transmission downshift the first time, and then move to fourth, before it shifts the second, you will be able to tell if you were already in fourth. I hate being an engineer.

JBL makes amps as well as speakers, but mostly speakers. I think that the door speakers with the JBL system are upgraded to JBL speakers, instead of the stock paper cone speakers.

I upgraded my speakers to JL Audio component sets, and put the speaker inside a foam enclosure. Door speakers will sound much better if they have a proper enclosure behind them, and not just the interior of your door. The area behind the speaker is just as important as the front of the speaker. Plus an enclosure will protect the back of the speaker from moisture that gets inside the door through the bottom seal that lets the window roll up and down.

    I use these

I got my bed mat from the dealer for $56. No shipping charges, and it arrived at the dealer the next day. The parts guy gave me the employee discount (yours might do the same if you ask). The bed mat fits the bed perfectly and has the word "Tacoma" molded in it. I really recomend the bed mat.

Why not just go to the dealer and order the door lock actuators that are made for the 05 Taco? Just get the replacement parts that come on a Taco that comes with the door locks standard. It might be expensive from the dealer though.

If you don't want to do that, just get some generic door lock actuators and rig up something that attatches to the stock linkage. I've done it before on other cars. It's just trial and error getting it to work. There are usually just 2 wires to operate it. It moves in and out depending on which way the polarity is going through the wires.

I just got the iPod + auxiliary interface for my 05 Taco. I went with Street Machine Systems ToyPod interface (www.streetmachinefx.com). I also purchased an iPod holder and mount from Pro Clip (www.proclipusa.com). I also have a Rockford Fosgate 200 watt amp hooked up to a 10 inch Bazooka sub. Cost of entire set up minus the sub was about $550 including install.

The interface sounds great. My only gripe about the interface (all brands do this) is that the ipod display goes blank and you can't control it with the click wheel. Instead, you have to use your cd controls. You can only control 6 playlists. So you pretty much have to memorize what you have or put your ipod on shuffle and play roulette. If you're a control freak with your ipod, this ain't for you. You also can't have a cd in your player if you have the single disc player and no changer.

The good news is that the interface also has an auxiliary input. So if you really want to control your ipod with click wheel or remote, you can connect this way. Then you'll have to power your ipod with a power adapter. Of course, you can also use this to connect MD player, DVD, sat radio, Walkman, etc.

Street Machine Systems is coming out with an additional piece for this interface that will allow you to switch back and forth from auxiliary to ipod. That way you don't have to unhook one. I believe this will be out in a month or so.

I'm hoping that I can learn to deal without the ipod display/click wheel. It's a million times better than using that damn iTrip! Especially since I live in SoCal and the reception sucks.

The Pro Clip holder is way cool. NO DRILLING!
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
I did get an interface for my iPod, the Blitzsafe TOY/M-Link1 V.2. It's almost exactly the opposite of what you said. It doesn't display anything on the head unit, it is all controlled using the iPod, no changing playlists most importantly.

I love it. It sounds great. The volume is perfectly matched when i switch between radio/cd/iPod. Charges it up and turns itself off after the truck is off for 20 min. Best of all it was 70 bucks and took 10 min to install.

Still may get the Pro Clip but I don't think I need it. I wired the connector through the center console so I can either store the iPod in a cupholder or just rest it on top since I have it in a silicon shell it doesn't slide.

    Highly recommended.

    12-14-2004 i bought my prerunner for 22,500 (about a $1000.00 over invoice)

Today Dealer offered me $20,200.00 to trade it in on a '05 Tundra. I love the tacoma except for one thing, I didn't notice when i test drove it but I seem to be a bit too tall ,the roof is too low (or I am too high), sometimes i have to lower my head to see what color the signal light is. I thought about finding seats that sit lower but... what a hassle! I am just curious has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for Listening

    Hello Everyone,

I have a 2005 Tacoma Access Cab, 4X4, V6 in white. I have owned the vehicle since April, and have noticed that if it rains, I get black streaks running down the side. The streaks are under the front corner of the of the access window. If the vehicle under goes several rains showers before I wash it, the streaks will go to the bottom of the cab. They look really horrible.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but on really windy days, I can hear the wind whistling around these windows. Do any of you guys have this problem?

Thanks for your assistance in advance!

    Randy

You said you have installed cruise control. Where did you find it. I have been looking to get it for my 05 access cab but cant find it. Did it plug in or did you have to splice it in. Thanks
  • westeemwesteem Member Posts: 49
I have that black streak (access cab) running down from the access window but have not noticed the wind sound. I just wash the streak off and have not been able to figure out what is causing it.

14,328 trucks sold in June, (vs. 12,891 in '04), for a YTD total of 77,932 (vs. 79,092 ytd '04)

I would guess that the black streak is from some poorly installed window sealant "caulk". I would take it to the dealer to get it looked at.
