Just started looking at possibly buying a new Tacoma and I got on Autotrader. com to see what's available. I found a dealer in Illinois who was wonderful to talk to and if I get a truck will probably get the deal. I would've probably baught one from him, but he didn't have what I want but he's going to try to find it for me. I live in Louisville, Ky and don't like any of our Toyota dealers around here so I will be going out of town to purchase. The dealer is located in Mattcon, Il and is called K.C Summer Toyota. If you want the salesmans name send me an email and I'll gladly give it to you. losmanky@yahoo.com. I really liked what he had to say and he didn't feed me any BS. I'm looking for a Speedway Blue TRD pkg 1 with tow, auto, V-6, loaded up. I don't want to pay sticker. I can't believe some dealers will deal and some won't, I would think they would want to sell vehichels with the way the economy is. If anybody has baught a new Tacoma please keep us informed how you like it. Thanks.
I just bought a prerunner v6 dc long bed, trd sport package with the towing option in indigo ink pearl for 25,000. I'm so happy, I'm glad I waited for an 05 instead of getting an 04 a couple of months ago.
Finally got to drive this buggy after a long wait ! WHAT a DISSAPPOINTMENT THE 6 SPEED SUCKS THE JUMP seats in the access cab are a disgrace even the salesperson was down about this. as for the ride the nissan frontier is much smoother. Now as for the 4door automatic Tacoma the it has a better interior and i enjoyed the ride and the response of the automatic. For the love of me i can't understand why there is not a sunroof or even leather seating offered.
after waiting for the Tacoma to debut so i could trade my 2003 Tundra i have decided to wait for the debut of the 2005 Nissan Frontier AS THEY OFFER A LOT MORE IN PACKAGES . I love my tundra in all respects will it be a new tundra or the Frontier [baby Titan]. THE Tacoma is an eye popper but doesn't match up to the Tundra for ride or the power of my 240 hp v8.
i'm guessing he (webdesignfor99) got a d/c pre-runner, sb, sport pkg #1 (w/o tow).
msrp break downs: truck : $19,070 sport #1 w/o tow (PY code): $3,915 destination chrg: about $565 (for CA residents) total: $23,550
so i think he got $50 off the sticker price. not that great of the deal.
i'm new to the toyota world, what were the typical prices for 04's tacos? invoice price or few hundred over invoice price?
i think people that purchased their 05 taco should share their purchased prices including options so that others can learn from and reduce our chances of getting scr#wed by the salesmen.
After reading through every single post in this discussion, I drove a Radiant Red Dbl Cab 4x4 SB tonight. Here are my impressions:
First the bad (not too many): - The engine was louder than I expected, and it sounded a bit harsh - It was a bit hard to see out the back window with the rear seat head rests in place - The bed seems very short -- definitely opting for the longer bed - In New England, dealer said that most of the trucks are not coming with side curtain air bags. That is a must have for me.
The good: - Great color - Seats felt fine -- right height for me (others had complained that seats were too low) - Acceleration was fine, but not what I'd expect from a 245 HP motor. My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee felt much faster. - Not much body roll/lean when taking sharp turns -- felt better than many cars I've driven - Tach was around 2.5K around 70 mph - Very nice ride for a truck. Was similar to a Nissan Titan I test drove, but felt significantly smaller (a plus for me). - Dash looks decent, but nothing special. - Nice, big center console for storage
I will wait for the side curtain airbags and for a LB to arrive. Dealer said that it would probably have to be a special order which might cost more. Why would this be? Do they not get a holdback if they do a special order? I figure it's not taking up inventory and they know they will have a customer.
Got a ballpark figure of 5% above invoice, 6% if I special order it. Works out to be about $1200 above invoice. Does that sound like a decent price?
I got a Double cabe... 21675.00 total accessoris....3220.00 destination charge....565
It is the double cab 4x2, sports pkg #1 with 17" alloy wheels, sport susp, limited slip, 115v/400w deck, foglamps, cruise, hood scoop, and more... no tow pkg ( My wife has an 04 sequoia that has tow pkg, and our 02 4runner had it.. never once used either.)
MSRP of $25,460.00
I am not sure where the sigsauer got his msrp on the d/c but I am sure it was an honest mistake.
I had a savings of roughly $2000.00 off msrp. I am very happy....
Gas mileage with the 17" is between 18 & 19 miles per gallon.
apologize for quoting the msrp of the v6, d/c pre-runner of only $19,070. that was for the a/c pre-runner v6 manual s/b.
thanks for the corrections.
ogbuffguy - will you come back and tell me if you saw the nissan frontier at the auto show, pls? and some feedbacks/comparison to the taco as well if possible? i'm currently debating b/t the taco and the frontier.
v6taco - $1300 off the msrp for special ordering is a great price IMO.
webdesignfor99 - wow, 2k off msrp! i think that's very very close to invoice. would you mind telling which dealer you got it from? so far most southern cal dealers are sticking to msrp or few hundreds off msrp. either they know i'm not serious to buy yet or they are not ready to reduce because of the demand is still higher than the supply.
base on few limited data i came across, i guesstimate that tacos have about 8% to 9% markup from the invoice. the low end configurations have lower markup than the high end ones. e.g., 4x4 reg cab w/ 5sp manual has 8% markup. x-runner has 8.9% markup.
the customized ebrochure based on zipcode has more combo options than the general ebrochures. however i didn't see the options that edmunds listed such as VD (VSC w/ A-LSD), VF (VSC w/ DAC), GY (curtain side airbags), EJ (JBL stereo system), DZ (Deluxe audio 6 cd changer), RL (Daytime running light). does that mean for my region i can't get the non-listed options or do you think the ebrochure omitted those options unintentionally?
also, the previously available taco specifications stated that the 'recommended fuel' for v6 engines was 91 oct. but now the ebrochure say 'required fuel' is premium unlead for d/c pre-runner v6 and 'regular unlead **' for a/c pre-runner v6. couldn't find the double star ** footnote in the brochure either.
anyone w/ the d/c prerunner, v6, pls check what your vehicle manual says. i didn't see any reference to premium unlead on the gas gauge or at the gas cap area the last time i checked a v6 d/c pre-runner.
Well, I took an hour out of my otherwise pointless day to testdrive toyuotas newest offering and educate a salesdude in the process. Great little truck- turns WAY tighter than my Tundra despite longer w.b. Engine is noisyer than expected, the gated 5spd shifter is slightly dumber than the integrated radio with the silver surround. Seats kick [non-permissible content removed]. The rotating knob wouldnt put the t-case in L4. Colors they had were ho-hum (white and silver) Bed IS small, but Im used to my longbox. Wont be able to sleep back there though w/o a truck tent. Underhood, there is some copious bodyfiller that I cannot beleive made it through Quality. The TuRD Sport I drove had the 17s and hobbled a little more than my Tundra- that might break in though (mine rode like a brick new). I think Its definitely on my list of replacements for my completely fine truck. The dealer here was willing to drop the price on the unit he had, since I told him I wanted a 4wd DC w/ SR5 grp2 and nothing else. As for limited side curtain availability, thats a crock- what- Liberals dont buy safety options??? Tell him (or her) what you want and they'll get it-
OK Kirstie, I'll discuss this vehicle here. The X-Runner is available with a TRD supercharger, bringing the V-6 output to 300+ horsepower and a 0-60 ET of slightly more than 5 seconds. During extensive testing, the X-Runner's road-holding ability was measured by an electronic accelerometer in excess of 0.9 g's of lateral acceleration. That's not only significantly better than any truck on the market, it repeatedly performed better than many sports cars, including the new Nissan 350-Z.
Hmmm... sort of sounds like a vehicle that would interest a different kind of person than would a 4-door pick-up truck, dontcha think?
I was dealing with two dealerships. I am in southern california. One that is willing to do $300 over invoice on all short beds and the own which I bought from that will do $500 over on any. The reason I went with the second was they had a much better inventory and I fell in love with my truck at first sight. This forum does not allow me to post dealer info so, please email me and I will gladley forward information.
This website DOES allow you to post dealer info., as long as you just list dealer name and city/state. No contact info. such as phone number, address, etc. is allowed.
I did not have the opportunity to drive a 6spd manual truck, so could you please ENLIGHTEN us as to HOW it sucked. If you're comparing it to the 04 Nissan, its hardly a comparison. If you've had the opportunity to drive the 05 Frontier, I'd like to know more (of course in a different forum, Kristy)
webdesignfor99 - please shoot me an email on the info of the dealership that has great deal on all s/b for me and other guys in this forums really want to know as well.
this is my personal discovery today
since i can't post dealership's link so you guys should search for power toyota in cerritos, check their new inventory, click on the express quote to enter a valid email addr and voila, you'll be presented a the internet prices on all the cars/trucks. most 05 tacos are priced at msrp but a couple that were selling at invoice or even lower, seriously.
today i saw a great deal on an 05 taco white d/c pre-runner w/ off-road pkg #1 (OC) plus car mat($130) at power toyota in cerritos selling at what i believe is invoice. the msrp on it is $25,415 and the internet price for it is $23,227 - that's $2,188 off msrp !!
there was a similar configured truck that even lower. $25,415 sticker and internet price at $22,084 ($3,331 off) but in gray color and it was already sold when i got there.
keep checking back at the site for their regular sales prices, guys. i was almost tempted to purchase the white one w/ +2K off but knowing i'll be lifting the truck soon and couldn't justify wasting the extra money on the off-road suspension and wheels.
hopefully by being a good citizen on this forum, passing on this infor none of you guys will steal my truck ( pre-runner d/c, sr5 #2) @ invoice
if any one happens to purchase one thru my suggestion, pls report your experience for others to learn.
hey webdesignfor99, i am negotiating with a dealer right now on a dc with trd offroad w/ tow hitch, jbl speakers, curtain/side airbags, vsc with dac, and other options...we are at about 800 above invoice right now...can you send me info on your deal and the other offer you chose not to go with so that i can use that as negotiation leverage? thanks a lot...my email address is cub49er4life@aol.com
I noticed you stated that the dealer had a gray tacoma, but was gone when you got there. Did you actually see any other 05 Tacomas in gray? I have seen many Tacomas on my local dealers lot and have yet to see a gray one. Toyota.com lists the colors for the 05 Tacoma and gray is not one of them. I just recently ordered a black 05 Tacoma access cab prerunner V6 SR5 package #5. I really would be interested in a charcoal or smoke gray Taco if the made it....Please inform me if you did actually see a gray 05. thanks
The only gray Toyota Tacoma of which I'm aware is "Silver Streak Mica/Gray" according to the sticker. Although it has gray in the full name, it is silver in appearance and it definitely would not qualify as "charcoal" and probably not "smoke gray" either.
Test drove a new Tacoma Saturday. Very nice truck. I'm looking at the double cab, V-6, auto. I don't need a 4 x 4 and really don't want or need a PreRunner. I like to lower my vehicles just a bit. Of course the only way to get a double cab is in the 4 x 4 or PreRunner configuration. Does anyone know if the only suspension difference between a PreRunner and a standard truck are the springs and shocks? Are all the other componants the same? This may sound crazy to some of you, but I'd really like a slightly lowered double cab. A family mans X-Runner. Thanks for your input.
I went and did a test drive of a black double cab, short bed, prerunner, with SR5 package, TRD Sport and towing (Auto). It was a very nice impression it left me with, especially after having borrowed my dad's 98 Taco several times.
Okay, what I wanted was a black DC, SB, 4x4 with TRD Sport, towing, auto, and V6. The dealer didn't have one, but already started negotiating a price. They had an MSRP of 29,900 for this truck (the one I wanted), and by the time I left, I had them down to 27,500. I had to argue with them for about half an hour before I was able to just leave, and think about it. I have no idea what the invoice price of this truck is, and even though that kind of sounds good, invoice may be closer to 25k, right? They said that if they could find another truck that was acceptable to me, they would offer the same percentage off MSRP. So, if the MSRP was higher, I'd get more off, if it was lower, I'd get less off.
What do you think?
Does anyone know what the invoice is on these trucks, and if so, where did you get it. I e-mailed Edmunds again (after I asked them the first time for invoice pricing, they said it would be up the coming day, and it ended up being MSRP prices only) but have gotten no response as when invoice pricing will be available.
I contacted TRD directly and they said that the supercharger is not available for the 4.0L V6 that they are putting in the X-runner yet. TRD told me to check back with them in a couple months. They also expect the X-runner to do 0-60 in about 6.2 seconds not 5 seconds. Can you please tell us where you got your info? Post a link or something?
i didn't see any gray one on the lot. saw a few silver ones though. maybe like 88toylc said, it could have been the silver one and they just didn't post the complete color description on the website. similiarly they still had 3.4L engine being described for the what should have been 4L engine on the 05 tacos.
hey iwanna05taco - where/which dealer has the taco equipped w/ side airbags? so far i couldn't find any w/ side airbag in my area - orange county, ca.
I think the gray in the"Silver Streak Mica/Gray" refers to the interior of the truck not the exterior color. I have had several people refer to what I call silver as a Gray.
Open diff for the locker type rear end and the lsd for the sport package.I'ts either one or the other it seems.I really want the lsd but like off road package without the sport option.
i found on autosite website lists the msrp and invoice prices for 05 taco optional pkgs but the trucks themselves still don't have invoice infor yet though. all major pkgs have a markup of 25% over invoice vs about 8-9% markup over the trucks themselves.
here are some example invoices for the 05 d/c pre-runner v6 s/b: msrp / inv PT $3870 / $3106 OG 3695 / 2965 PY 3220 / 2586 OC 3045 / 2445 SJ 2965 / 2382 SN 1525 / 1220 VD 800 / 688 VF 650 / 559 GY 650 / 559 EJ 500 / 375 DZ 200 / 150 RL 40 / 34
I am approx. 6 ft tall and while test driving the Tacos I noticed that the rear view mirror is mounted to the windshield approx. 4 inches below the top. This creates a large blind spot at 1-2 o'clock. Has anyone else noticed this? Can the mirror be relocated up to a higher local?
Dunno about the Taco but on the 04 Matrix/Vibe, the mirror is mounted with a ball joint to a 2" extender , which is mounted with another joint to the glue tab on the windshield. So you have quite a bit of adjustability in height. I'd be surprised if the Tacoma was different. -Mathias
Did that- went into 4H and back into 2H w/o problems. Stopped the truck, slid the silly gate shifter in to [N], and tristed the knob to [4L] ....nothing. Slid it back into gear, the only thing I got was some horrible beeping. Repeat3 times- no luck. I now like it even less when what looks like an HVAC knob controlls the transfer case. At least the 04 had a lever that controlled [H/N/L] with the 4wd button on it. Which brings up another point: can the T-case be put into [N] for flat towing (can someone w/ an owners manual please check)?
Drove an extended cab/access cab the other day. It was pretty nice and more refined than the 04's of course but nothing real special. It was a prerunner w/TRD and the ride was slightly rough but a little better than the 04's. A little disappointed in the noise level at highway speeds. This particular truck listed around 26k and I expect that I could get it for around 24k but I'm not yet sold on this truck. When I see FULL SIZE chevy/ford/dodge trucks for this price or less, it sure makes me hesitate. I know about the resale value, etc but gee whiz - so much more up front costs.
That is an old article that came out back in Feburary when the X-runner was first announced. Notice in that article that it also states the engine is going to be a 240hp V6 with 275lbs of torque and the truck acually has 245hp with 283lbs of torque! They also said back in Feburary that the supercharger was going to be available as a factory installed option on all new Tacoma trucks. Guess they were wrong on that statement also. I sent an email to trd_help@toyota.com last week and this was their response:
At this time there are no plans to offer a supercharger system for the 4.0L V6. Try back in a couple of months to see where we are at on this.
TRD Help
You can send an email to that address and see what they say. I got the email address from TRDUSA.com TRD's official site
Bob Carter, Toyota vice president said during a visit to Detroit. Quote: "Toyota will make select use of incentives to help bolster Tacoma sales this fall. "It's an important entry segment for young, male buyers," he said. Carter acknowledged Toyota has almost never used incentives on a new product but is willing to make an exception on very selective basis with the Tacoma."
Bought 05 Double Cab in silver last night with off road package #2, carpet floor mat, wheel locks, the $200 extra for the better radio -- MSRP $29399 for an even 27,900 its one of those that is on the way in, leaves factory 11-12, think its the best deal -- dealer has to pay 3/8s of a point each month it sits -- rolls off the truck into my garage
Honestly the best buying experience I have ever had -- what do you want to pay sort of thing -- said I have been tracking this site for a long time -- some of the deals go for 3-500 and some have gone with 1800-2200 under MSRP. I gave them what I though would be fair and they accepted.
Sales mgr said prices will be above MSRP in most places for the next 90 days or so and then Toyota will flood the market as production catches up with the demand
I want almost the same truck. TRD Off Road Package #2 w/tow hitch. I have an MSRP for 29,150 Can you tell me the dealer's name and city where you got this deal. Haven't approached them to negotiate yet. Any points, suggestions that helped you ...

The MSRP of the truck if it was in CA was $25,460 per toyota.com
I just wanted to make everything clear.
I am also going to the auto show in anaheim tonight, hopefully they will have some new tacos there

At this time there are no plans to offer a supercharger system for the 4.0L V6. Try back in a couple of months to see where we are at on this.
TRD Help
You can send an email to that address and see what they say. I got the email address from TRDUSA.com TRD's official site
Great site -- appreciate all the help
Can you tell me the dealer's name and city where you got this deal. Haven't approached them to negotiate yet. Any points, suggestions that helped you ...
