Much better, nice truck! So you have 34 + 41 gallons (75) of gas on this thing loaded??? The gas station must love you, you must need a special permit for hauling gasoline LOL.
When I retire I am thinking of a fifth wheel set-up but that's 7 more years yet.............

Thank you for posting the pictures, nice angles. I was wondering how the brake controller would fit in the CD slot. I, too, have a Draw-Tite Controller, as you know. And I got my Silverado this afternoon. I'm like Ray, wife had to threaten me with great bodily harm to get me out of it. Darn, but that is one nice rig. Now have to get 500 miles on it so I can hook up the 5th wheel and get moving on toward Montana's Lolo Hot Springs, about 25 or 30 miles or so from Missoula.

Have a nice day, again thanks for posting the pictures that answered some of my questions.

    Cool Pictures.

I am about 30 years from retirement, and will not be pulling a fifth wheel anytime soon. Tommorow would not be to soon for me! I bought a lottery ticket today. LOL

Does the Fold A Cover keep the water out?
I called them direct, and they stated that water can get through at the back above the tailgate. There website sucks for pictures. All the pictures are too small to see any details.

Added a few more pictures at http://www.PictureTrail.com/dayle1

    Bill,
See my answer at topic #1738, post #92 about the cover being weathertight.

    Roger,
Your are probably having too much fun right now, driving or sitting. Let me know if you want more details on getting the brake controller installed like mine. If you have the UY2 optional wiring harness, there is a separate plug above the spare tire that must be connected to tie it into the main harness.

    Ray,
No the truck is a short bed, so just 65 gal. I don't mind a big fuel bill if it means fewer stops and more freedom to pick those stops.

    Thanks for the comments,
    Larry
  • rshornsbyrshornsby Member Posts: 200
Thank you, I put my controller in the slot just to see how it would fit. Probably will get it installed tomorrow. I do not have the UY2 option. I wanted it, but when the lady ordered she missed that. But no biggie, just have to manually connect for the 5th wheel plug. BTW I see you have a Draw-Tite hitch, no kwik-slide. Do you have any trouble backing up into a slot? Like out in a campground. Is there a chance that you could hit the cab with the front of the camper? Also where did you get the tool/fuel box?
That looks intresting since it is about 145 miles to Lolo Hot Springs, Montana, from my home.

    Thanks again, Larry.

Have a nice day (I am sore all over, sitting, lying on my back, bending over..etc!!!! Just to see what everything looks like on top and underneath also.)

    Roger,
My 5th wheel is 7.5ft width, I'll post pics showing what angle is possible. Before there is any contact between the truck and trailer, the angle is so sharp that you would just be twisting the trailer around its 2 axles.

For the brake controller, if you have the floor console, remove it first. There are 4 bolts inside into the floor. Also remove the cup holder by pulling it up, there are 2 bolts between the console and the dash extension under the cup holder. Then remove the 2 bolts inside the CD door and the entire front panel then snaps off by pulling slightly up. The little open storage will also pop out. Behind the front panel there are 2 more bolts holding the metal frame of the dash extension to the firewall. Now the dash extension can be removed. You will need to cut out part of the back of the CD storage to run the brake controller wires thru and to place it back far enough so that the CD door can close fully.

    LOL

    Roger,
I've added several pics at http://www.PictureTrail.com/dayle1

The fuel/tool setup was not cheap. The unit was ordered thru Northern Tool and Supply, it was $430 plus $90 freight. The installation kit came from ATTF in Frisco, Tx. and it was about $700 (fuel pump, sending unit, switch-over valve, wiring, hoses, roll-over valve, fume vent back to main tank and very good instructions). I removed the tool box lid since it opened toward the cab and the fold-a-cover lid opens toward the rear. No need for two lids anyway.

Thanks for the info. I have it printed out so I can read when I run into trouble. Can't get to your picture address for some reason. I will try to manually go to it.

    Again, thank you...

I finally got into the picture site. Couldn't get there this morning, don't have a clue as to why. But all I can say is, darn close isn't it? But if you miss by 2" that is sufficient.

I didn't get to mount my brake controller in the CD storage slot. My foreman (wife) came out to see just what I was taking apart. When I told her what I was going to do, she just said "NO WAY"!!!! I am a C/W type, she is also up to a point then she wants Easy Listening. And she has CD's for her boom box in the kitchen. Which she is going to take on trips. So I mounted it along side the console, lots of room, not in the way of anything. At least I kept peace in the family. After I yelled, stomped, cried, begged, threw tantrums, screamed etc...just to get her to let me buy the Silverado, I felt I should give in on the controller issue. Oh well, what the heck do I know.

Have a nice day, I am going to go up the river with my beauty, just to get some miles on.

    Roger.

Very nice truck and 5th wheel setup -- you know how to do it right. I believe you are the one who mentioned that your 5th wheel did not clear the truck sides and you had the trailer modified -- is this correct? I have my hitch installed now but haven't tried to hook up. Have I got a nasty shock coming? My old F150 had lots of clearance and I didn't even consider that a problem of clearance may exist (2WD excab SB).

By the way, is that your wife's vehicle sitting back in the trees in the background of your pictures?

    Cheers, Al

Way to go! I guess you will be 5th wheeling down the highway in no time at all --500 miles goes by pretty quickly. Good luck!

    Cheers, Al
  • rshornsbyrshornsby Member Posts: 200
I think you are right. I am having my 5th wheel hitch installed next Tuesday, I think it is. Then I will find out if I have to buy a Kwik-Slide type of hitch..Hope not. All of my camper sits behind the ball, so it might just fit o.k.
    Have a nice day :)

You got your order in 2 weeks before mine.

I order a 2500 LS 4x4 Reg Cab Long bed.

Wait and see who gets a 'born on date' first, and who get the truck first. My dealer told me 4/3 was the last day to get an order in for 2000.

I'm hoping for a May delivery!

should the truck arrive in April, how were you planning to delay the delivery until June?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Not planning on delaying delivery. The truck will just sit at the dealership for a few wks. Im sure ill take a day and go see and drive it. No biggie already have made plans with the dealership and its cool with them. Gotta go call gm and make sure its being built next wk now

    Al,
Regarding clearance between top of the truck bed and the trailer, I have not yet had the trailer modified to lift it, but I will get it done within a few weeks. Adding the Fold-A-Cover reduces the clearance an additional 3/4 inch, so I have raised the hitch height for more clearance. But that just raises the front of the trailer and adds to the front-to-rear angle. First camping trip with the new truck is this weekend, but I expect that the angle will make sleeping difficult unless I unhook the trailer and level it.

Regarding the turning angle that Roger mentioned, with the short bed and an 8ft wide trailer, the maximum angle without hitting the back of the cab is about 63 degrees (assuming that the hitch pin is located at the very front of the trailer). I have a 7.5ft wide trailer and the angle is about 73 degrees. My experience with my old '89 short bed was that this was never a problem. By the time you get to this sharp of an angle, you can't do any manuvering anyway. The trailer tires will no longer roll, you are just twisting the tandem axle tires sideways. And the engine power required to do this puts the driveline under maximum stress. The Kwik Slide is an insurance option if someone really thinks that they would actually need to manuver at such an angle.

BTW, the wife's car was in the garage, that is just a fancy yard swing.

ANy word on anyones orders??? Just curious gm told me monday i didnt have a TPW but the dealership shows one on their computer. Oh well gotta wait it out

  • sf6sf6 Member Posts: 11
Hey Ryan...I thought you had a TPW of 4/3, same as mine. I was notified yesterday that mine started production 4/4, and would be finished some time today. It was built in Pontiac, and will take a couple of weeks to get out here to Seattle. I would call or E-mail Chev, to get the straight scoop on you TPW. Something doesn't sound right!
  • wight1wight1 Member Posts: 218
Ordered from dealer 1/7/00, dealer got allocation and placed order 2/29/00, got TPW of 4/3.

Got word from Chevrolet CAC today my truck was built yesterday 4/4, should ship out next week.

    2000 model 2500LS, 2WD, extended cab, 4 door, 6.0L, auto, 3.73, tow package.

Only a short time left for the old Dodge!!
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240

Order accepted 2/9. TPW 3/27. "On the ramp" 3/31 in East Pontiac according to CS. Today dealer said last they heard my truck was in Annapolis, MD. Seems it went a little further East than necessary. I live about 15 minutes south of D.C. I guess Chevy must have a distribution hub in Annapolis. Shouldn't be long now. {8^)

How much over invoice are you all paying? Did you pay an advertising cost? I am searching for the best deal and want to compare w/what others are paying.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Appx $500 under invoice due to gm supplier deal with no ad or processing fee ( i forget the name of this fee but its like $50)

    Ryan
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
Isn't that GMS deal great? $500 under invoice on a truck (2500) that most dealers don't want to deal on. I'm very happy with my deal.

I just want my TPW. I ordered on the 7th of March, dealer got order in place on the 28th. By the end of this month, I should have my TPW.

The rate orders are going through (at least on this discussion) I should have my truck in early May. That would be great.

    Good Luck to all,

    Mike L

Best thing is you dont have to negociate. Its a set price go in and order. DId you order a 2500??? Mine is a 1500 im surprised the accpeted your gm supplier deal most dealers in my area wouldnt accpet it on a 1500. I went 2 and a half hrs away from where i live to buy mine it was well worth the travel. U placed the order the 7th why did it take so long to be accepted? Allocation? I ordered march 11th accepted march 14 got tpw march 21st.

Are you keeping the 99 or getting rid of it? That 6 L is gonna be a big difference.

    Ryan
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
    Undecided.

Might leave the camper on the 2500 and keep the 1500 as a truck to drive around, etc.

Might sell it. Retail Kelly Blue Book is more than I paid for it. Not much, but more.

I'd rather sell my wife's 2nd car and my El Camino and keep the Silverado. Depends on what sells easiest.

Obviously, you are sitting at the computer today.

Equally obvious is the fact that I am also at my computer today. Well, at least this morning, this afternoon I have to work.

I hope you get one of the really good trucks.

My 99 was built in Pontiac, and I have had only one problem in 25,000 miles. My transfer case shift linkage rattled at certain rpm's. Dealer found it on the first try and it is now quiet.

    Good luck,

One word of caution (reason) make sure the invoice the dealer is showing is truly the FACTORY INVOICE. Check this yourself by going to the Kelly Bluebook Web site etc. I can tell you having been involved with accounting etc. for dealers for 20+ years, they "ain't goin give a car away" for their cost. Granted, they may only want the holdback etc..or they have flooring problems. Do your research!

Has anyone else had this problem?

I ordered my Chevy Silverado 4dr 2wd LT on 2/21
Dealer told me a TPW of 3/27.
I called Chevy customer service on 13 Mar and they said the TPW slipped to 4/3.
I just got off the horn with Chevy AGAIN and they told me the TPW changed to 4/17.

I know I'm just getting anxious for the new truck...but I'm tired of watching the production slip. I just hope mine isn't the last 2000 off the line before they re-tool for the 2001's.

    Bottom's up! *hic*

be happy gm gives you a TPW. Delaerships computer says April 10th TPW but when i called gm they didnt have one. Im calling again monday to see whats up.

    GOOD LUCK TO YOU

One reason for the slippage might be availability of the LT they are in limited production

    Thanks!

I know your pain. I called GM once and they told me they lost the info on my order. Boy did my heart sink into my shoes.

I'd almost be happier if GM didn't give me a production week. It really stinks to get your hopes up only to get the rug snatched out from under you. Ya know?

Good luck to you too! I hope GM has an answer for ya!

I'm still trying to decide what I want. The base model GMC(SL) has many more options than the base model Chevy. But when you add those options into the chevy are they same price. Is one a better price than the other?

I've been reading all of the messages for a couple of months and just registered to put in my two cents. Thanks for all of the info especially the positives about the Silverado and Sierra. I have one scheduled for production next week. I hope its a good one! The negative people sure can take the fun out of getting a new truck! I'm looking for recommendations for running boards that look factory and hood deflectors. Thanks!
  • nb2169nb2169 Member Posts: 35
You are not alone! I ordered my truck in mid-March. I was fairly confident that I would recieve my Regular Cab Sportside Silverado in the 5-6 weeks the dealer told me to expect. They entered my order and recieved an acceptance from GM with a TPW of 4/3. I thought,"Gee, that was easy." However, I just called the dealer to check my order status and they told me that my order has been pushed back to 4/24. Somehow, from reading the previous posts, I got this feeling I'm not getting off this merry-go-round any time soon!

The Lund Interceptor seems to be the deflector of choice. Got mine from wrenchead.com. Was best price and free shipping. Received them in about a week. Don't know about the boards. I'm probably going to do cab length black on mine, not factory look.

Call GM's customer service # with your order #. They gave me a TPW and it didn't change. The TPW was different (a week later) from what my dealer told me. Sometimes I think the dealer tells you what you want to hear. Ryan's dealer gave him a TPW but GM CS said his hadn't been assigned.

    87 Lion

p.s. Got my truck today. Will install Lund Interceptor and Weathertech vent visors tomorrow. Interceptor uses existing holes. Vent visors are held in by tension. It's raining today.

    #439 of 439: R6J Captive Fleet-Janesville & Different Destination Charges (stvokc) Mon 10 Apr '00 (09:45 PM)

I just got the 2 GM invoices on my 2 truck orders.
On it was - R6J Captive Fleet-Janesville option
and under MSRP was 0(zero) cost and under invoice
amount was $16.50 charge. Does anyone know what
this is for? and how come no MSRP charge but $16.50
invoice charge? I have never seen this and was
not an option that I or dealer put on the orginial
order, so assume GM put it on.

I ordered 2 identical trucks built at the same
plant. The one that was built 4/1/00 and shipped
4/1/00 was charged $690 shipping charge. The other
one was built 4/3/00 and shipped 4/3/00 was
charged $665 shipping charge. What is the deal?
The truck that was built 2 days earlier has a
higher destination charge. And get this the 4/1/00
was invoiced the same day as the second one. Both
were invoiced on 4/3/00. Would like any comments
    on this.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
    Gary,

One big difference between the base Chevy and the base GMC is the seat. The seat with adjustable passenger seatback, folddown center section, lumbar support, and upscale fabric is not available in the Chevy base model, only in the LS. That seat is standard in the GMC base model, although you can option it out by getting a commercial package.

Check out the seat in a Chevy LS, test the adjustability, especially on the passenger side, and compare to the base Chevy seat.

You may decide the GMC is a better deal.

Does anyone know if there are any factory incentives available now? Edmunds doesn't show any for Ford or GM. Usually the General waits for Ford to take the lead and then respond, but now it looks like collusion to me! Has anyone had any luck getting "loyalty coupon" extended? I would have used mine on an in-stock unit, but there weren't any 4drs. with equipment matching my wish list. Also, what is this phone # I hear about regarding checking production schedule? Thanks!
