    I don't see any
What do I have to do? I never see it
I have an XLE V6 fully loaded
Do I have to do something? Is it in the manual?

Thanks for the reply. It's been 6 weeks now and my salesman still hasn't gotten a build date for me. I was scared that he did the paper work and have not submitted it to have it ordered but I guess it really does take that long.

No, the m2m cable does not charge the iPod. It merely connects it to the stereo system through the AUX jack. You'll need a separate charger device that will connect the iPod to the 12-v power outlet.

See if the dealer faxed a copy of your order and deposit check. I was told that both are required. What car / options / color did you order?

I am planning a long trip this summer in my LE. It has the JB Upgrade Option but not the navigation system. I didn't want a permanent system since I don't use it that much.

For this trip, I am thinking to get a system but don't really want to permanetely modifiy the console with any mounting brackets that some systems use. Does anyone have any recommondataions on a Nav system that could set near the compartment in front of the stick shift without having to permanetely install it?

    Thanks,
    max

Guys, I ordered a SE V6 black with charcoal leather,Nav, and all options available on the car. My dealer tried to add the push button starter and the auto climate control and toyota rejected it. I even tried to order the XLE V6 fully loaded with the SE body kit and grille and it was rejected. I ordered the car the middle of March and it came in April 28th. I paid $400.00 over invoice. The dealer is in MA. It sucks the car can't come with the XLE options.

Most aftermarket GPS systems need to be set on the dash so the antenna can pick up the satellite signal. I am very happy with our Garmin Streetpilot 2610. It rests very nicely on the dash with a beanbag mount. When we park, we just set it in the glovebox or console.
  • blindmantooblindmantoo Member Posts: 139
Not sure about the newer Garmins, but my older Garmin has an optional antenna extension so you can stick the antenna on one of the windows. It works great and allows the unit to be anywhere in the vehicle.

I share your pain! My order is also for Black w/ Charcoal & NAV. I also wanted the SE w/ push button start and dual climate. My dealer didn't even try to order it - said no way Toyota is going to build it. My ideal build is the XLE w/ SE suspension - No ground effects. Also, I would have opted for the beige leather instead of charcoal if it was available. I was able to delete the rear spoiler.

Can you post some pics of the SE exterior in black (front, side and rear shots). I still have almost a month to wait...

all 4c Toyota's have timing chains

All the new 3.5L/4.0L V6's also have timing chains.

Only the 3.3L V6 and the 4.7L V8 have timing belts

BTW whent the Sienna, the Highlander and the Lexus RX350 switch over to the new 3.5L V6 at the end of the year all V6's in the Toyota/Lexus family will have the same engine ( tuned differently ).

    Max 99,
If you have a laptop, you might want to consider buying a copy of Microsoft Streets and Trips, a version of which has a GPS sensor with it. Probably cost you about $100, and you can use it anywhere in any car. I take it everywhere I travel, since I always have my laptop. Works anywhere, whichever personal car we're taking, rental cars, airplanes, any city, any state.

Has all the streets, can create routes, tracks where you have been, etc, etc, etc.

Not as clean and 'integrated' as a in-dash navigation system, but very flexible and cost efficient, we've used it for years. Also has the advantage of much larger screen, and enables 'back seat drivers' (if you want)!

Get a Magellan 800. It works GREAT & can be purchased for $540.00 on the net from Buydig.com.

I use it strictly for navigation, but it has a lot of additional features that may be of interrest to you.

Do timing chains break like timing belts or need to be replaced at regular intervals?
  • concertkeyconcertkey Member Posts: 59
Besides the term, build "week," I've also heard "in the next build cycle." Can anyone explain these terms and the allotments, etc. that occur in them?

Does anyone know whether the satellite antenna for the Camry's add-on satellite radio is mounted outside the car? I saw the satellite antenna for the Prius is mounted on the roof right next to the radio antenna in the back. Your information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, get a Garmin Nuvi. It has a super-sensitive built-in pop-up antenna that does not need to be in front of the window to work.
It will work while placed in front of the gear shifter area with no need to connect extra antennas and cables.
  • kdhspyderkdhspyder Member Posts: 7,160
There are plusses and minuses to chains.

Plus: From a good producer ( Toyota for example ) the chain should last the life of the vehicle - or at least very long - with good care. Thus there is no schedule to change it ever.

Minus: If it does break, unlike a belt which will just stall you out, the chain breaking will likely destroy your engine... complete replacement.

Choose a good supplier. Based on my experience with Toyota since 1989 I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that these engines will last indefinitely.

I just happened to come across the receipt for the IPOD cable. The Radio Shack partnumber is 4202387, 6' w/ 1/8" ST plugs, price is $4.99. This cable plugs into the ipod on one end, the aux input on the other, and provides the audio feed.

I have a Garmin Nuvi: it worked well in the 06 Camry stuck down on the transmission counsole. In the 07, it has to be up on the windscreen close to the rear view mirror to pick up the satellite signals. I understand the windscreen is coated and that makes for worse reception.

I don't understand why Toyota is not offering the 2007 camry hybrid in black. My son works for Toyota in the service dept. and he does not know either. So I ordered a 2007 Camry SE in Black, in a 4 cylinder. Gas prices are what made me order a 4 cylinder. I also like the options that the SE offers. My son also said they can not keep the 2007 camrys on the lot. As soon they arrive they are sold.

Anyone know if the Dealers KARR alarm system is worth the price? I went to their website and it seems pretty basic. I've got an XLE V6 set for delivery next week and just want to be informed of whats out there. Does anyone have a good they like and use? Thanks for the help.

Do timing chains break like timing belts or need to be replaced at regular intervals?

From experience, the timing chain may require replacement after a couple hundred thousand miles. The timing chain on my 92 Toyota Pickup got loose with no performance problems or noise, wore a hole in the timing cover and allowed water into the block at 297,000 miles. I possibly could have detected it with a timing light but never had a need to check the timing. (too lazy)

Buick used to use a nylon timing gear to keep the engine quiet and was nortorius for wearing down the teeth and causing the timing chain to jump.

Todays technology may be improved and they may last longer. Enough said, I would take a chain over the belt. Like KDHSPYDER stated it should last the life of the vehicle for most people.

Is it normal - engine idle at 1500 rpm...it's kind of loud at idle
and when the gear move to R or D (without moving), rpm at 750?
    Should I concern about it?

Does anyone know how to get the build date from the vin # And no I don't have the car to look at, only the vin #
  • filodfilod Member Posts: 189
If you like to join forums, there is a good resource for GPS

    www.gpspassion.com

There will be a lot of suggestions for what you are looking for. Or maybe after reading some of the suggestions, you may even end up wanting to have your GPS with you everyday.

I have the same idea that I will not need the gps everyday. After having a NAV in the Camry, there are some neat things that you want your GPS on every time.

Even thinking now of buying a GPS for my Sienna.
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
Coated with what? The 2007 doesn't have a heated windshield, so I don't know why it would not be able to pick up the signal in an 07 when when it can in an '06.
Maybe the Nuvi has developed a problem and need repair.
I've seen the Nivi work even inside a building.

Please do not post links to dealerships. See the Rules of the Road and/or the Membership Agreement (both are linked on the left) for further information, but generally, no specific contact information for a dealer or a salesperson may be posted.

    Thanks!

It must have a cache/prediction based on speed at time of signal loss because you will lose the ability to track on satellites inside of a building except at the windows. My OEM NAV system does this, but it is tied into the vehicle and can track my speed and turns so it can still map in an underground environment, but this is not on satellite.

Mine is inside on the rear deck.

When you go to any dealer for service under your extended warranty, what do you show - your warranty contract or some type of warranty ID card ? Can the dealer that is working on your car see where you purchased your warranty and how much you paid for it ?
I'd hate to buy my warranty in Virginia and find out 3 or 4 years later that a dealer in my state of Illinois will give me a hard time getting my car fixed .
I'd like to hear from someone that purchased in one state
and had his car fixed in another .

No, a Nuvi does not need to be by the window.
By "indoors" I did not mean it would work in a parking garage or in a tunnel, but I have seen it work inside a house.
I saw one at a retailer and the Nuvi was the only one on display that could pick up a live satellite signal from within the store. All the others could only run in a demo mode while inside.
A Nuvi can definately work inside a car without the antenna being up in the window unless the car has a specially coated windshield such as heated windshield (which blocks/interferes with the satellite signal. The Camry does not have a heated windhshield, so I don't know what it would be coated with that would become an issue.

I don't think there could be any problem since the Sirius antenna can pick up a signal from inside and satellite radio needs a better signal to operate than a GPS unit does.

Most portable GPS units will not work well unless the antenna is in the window or outside, but the Garmin Nuvi and some other company's newer model GPS units that use the same new gps chipset are able to work with a much weaker signal than past units.

You get both a card and contract. You can show either.

I've used 2 Chrysler extended warranties in multi states and the Toyota is no different.

There is no direct way to get the build date from the VIN.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
It should idle at 1500 rpm or so only immediately after a cold start (like the first thing in the morning). Then the idle speed will gradually decrease as the engine warms up.

It's perfectly normal for the idle to drop to 750 rpm or so after you shift into reverse or drive.

Which dealer did you go to? I am in NJ

I have the following problem with my 2007 Toyota Camry LE 4CYL (AUTO)

1)Engine idle at 1500 rpm...it's kind of loud at idle
and when the gear move to R or D (without moving), rpm at 750

    2) When I am between 45 and 55 MPH, then RPM suddenly climbs to 2600 and then drops to 1800.

    3) Could it be a shifting problem
  • vonnyvoncevonnyvonce Member Posts: 129
Just picked it up this evening and took a 50 mile ride home. First impressions, very fast and powerful. The 4 cyl would have been my first choice but SO liked the V6. Trip computer had MPG at 28.3, I think very reasonable for a first drive.

Dual climate works excellent, as are the tunes. Seats are comfortable.

A few things, perhaps minor, stand out as weak spots in a $30,000 car. Heated seats only have and on or off setting. Why not at least a high and low and the exterior mirrors do not fold. Finally electrochromic rear view mirror works nicely, but why not on exterior mirrors also like the Maxima.

    Overall very nice, for sure.

Drove 2007 Camry tonight. Sales rep couldn't turn down the dashboard lighting level. He said he wasn't sure but that he thought that there was no control or setting.

Surely one must be able to adjust the dashboard illumination level! Where is the control?

I want to buy a LE V6 and wonder whether I can install fog lamps on it. I know all SE has equipped with fog lights but they also come with other options that I don't want. The dealer said they will take $800 out of my pocket to install the fog lights as the LE doesn't has a space, the wire, the switch for the installation. But I saw the place where the fog lights should be installed at the front on the LE V6 I test drove was just covered by a rubber which can be easily removed. I wonder whether Toyota has reserved and prepared the space for the buyers to install the fog light. Thanks

To adjust the dashboard light, turn the ODO/TRIP stick:

Thanks! Thought I looked all over the instrument panel for buttons and knobs. If I ever see that rep again I will tell him.

The rep thought we were in a 6-cyl. I was thinking it was pretty noisy. Then I accelerated hard and he realized we were in a 4! Well, the color was the same.

I've seen the Nivi work even inside a building.

I don't know, but whatever the difference is, the Nuvi has a difficult time finding satellites and loses them frequently when it is not right up near the windshield in the 07 when it did not have any trouble at all in the 06 at the transmission console on the same day.

The Nuvi works fine every other way, inside my house, inside buildings, so it is something in the car that makes the reception worse.

    All,

What models come in stick and what have people been paying for them ? I see the spec showing an CE, LE and SE all 4 cyl in stick shift. Dealer said only the CE comes that way and the toyota website only allows you to build automatics....how hard is it to get a stick ? How do they drive ?

    Thanks
  • markthr1markthr1 Member Posts: 9
Hey Mitch, did you ever receive an answer to this or find the antenna? I'm waiting on an XLE with NAV and XM and want to make sure it's worth the wait. Also, do you or anyone else have an opinion on the dealer installing this rather then the factory? One thing I hate is bumps and rattles and I want as few after-factory installs as possible on my car. Does anyone know what has to be removed in order to do the wiring/install? Thanks!

Hey Sunny, here in the Pacific Northwest the Toyota website only allows the SE model to be configured with the manual trans. Two dealers have confirmed that. I drove a red SE I-4 with the manual trans, it drove very nicely. Smooth shifting, easy clutch, nice power(especially at slower speeds). Also drove an LE I-4 with the auto trans; it was also nice, but the handling of the SE was noticeably more crisp and the ride more firm.
    Good Luck,
