i believe juice did a vehicle compare against the pilot.

how does the pilot 7 pass leather compare against trifecta 7 pass leather????

some have posted that the 3rd row of the pilot is more spacious.

can the pilot hold more cargo when the 3rd seat is up/down?

    mileage?

    interior materials?

    nav comparison?

    dvd comparison?

    warranty?

    radio? mp3?

    3rd row access?

    heated seats/mirrors?

    interior lighting?

    sunroof comparisons on size?

    towing capacity?

    anyone ????

was on the regular floor in the autoshow but people were saying it was also like 3 bldgs down from the event, which they sat in (though I didn't see them).

My order will be the Mahogoney Red - Grey interior (tired of beige), 7 pass., leather, NAV (comes with the upgraded stereo), DVD (everything except the towing package - though I can get it for free by ordering from April to May 9th). But the other two freebies are protable XM radio ($485 value) or $500 gift certificate at L.L. Bean.

and you can get this at invoice via VIP? what are you guessing that price to be?

btw love grey leather. have them on my odyssey, they hide dirt/marks much better than beige.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
looks great. I like it better than the beige too.

There were 2 Tribecas on the show floor (white & silver), which were roped off, although I did see people sitting in them. There were also 2 Tribecas at the "Tribeca Experience" (Mahogany Red and Seacrest Green).

Well, I found out a little tid bit... when you preorder during the time I mentioned, Subaru throws in the freebie option but charges the dealer $150 for the preorder. So, I agreed to pay $200 over invoice. I'm guessing, based on Subaru's prior pricing of other models, that the invoice would be about $2,800 to $3,300 less than MSRP. No VIP, just a good friend helping out (I can help you out too if you're really considering the B9).

My wife's OB wagon is Seamist Green, which is the same as Seacrest, so that was out of the question. The White Pearl looked very nice, and I considered it my second choice but the Mahogoney just makes the B9 look sleeker and looks great (not to mention it's different).

If Subaru would've offered the Crystal Grey, I would've jumped on it in a heartbeat. Mmmm, Crystal Grey/Grey leather... wow! But I'm happy with the Mahogoney :-)

Rob - mighty big of you to admit you liked it. :-)

In dealers in March?! We thought late April, no? Color me surprised. Soon as they appear in DC I'm all over a test drive.

I put my 5 year old daughter in the 3rd row and it fit her easily, and she's 99 percentile in terms of size and weight. I imagine she'd fit in there until she was a pre-teen, plenty of time for me.

$31,020 to $38,320 price range is lower than expected. Now I wish we were in the market right now 'cause I want one.

Now we can place the Subaru in there:

    Freestyle $35k (aftermarket Nav)
    Odyssey $35k (no AWD)
    Pilot $36k (aftermarket DVD)
    Montero $37k (aftermarket Nav)
    Tribeca $38,320
    Highlander $39k
    Grand Cherokee $39k
    Pathfinder $39k
    Pacifica $40k
    Murano $41k
    Durango $41k
    Sienna $42k
    Explorer $42k (aftermarket Nav)
    Rendezvous Ultra $42k
    VW Touareg V6 $43k
    MDX $44k
    4Runner $44k
    RX330 $45k
    FX35 $47k
    ML350 $47k (aftermarket DVD)
    Aviator $52k
    X5 3.0 $53k
    Cayenne V6 $53k
    SRX V6 $55k
    LR3 $57k

Surprise, it ended up being the 5th cheapest in a large group, cheaper than a similar Highlander, though Toyota has rebates to even things out.

Here is the kicker - it is the CHEAPEST way to get DVD and Nav and AWD from the factory in a 7 seat SUV!

Pilot makes you choose DVD or Nav, and even if Honda fixes that it's still a 7" screen.

Figure you'll pay about 10% less for street pricing, is my guess. And yes, this immediately makes the VDC model obsolete.

Anyone know how the rear A/C vents fit into this? Is that standard? Comes w/DVD?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Std w/7 passenger IIRC.

  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
Anyone seen a non-NAV-equipped Tribeca yet? Does a storage compartment take the place of the screen?
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
thx for rear A/C info, juice!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think if I had to give something up it would be the Nav, $2000 is steep and you could get a Garmin later. $1800 for a 9" DVD player with 2 wireless headphones seems like a better value.

So I think I'd get it loaded minus Nav for $36k list, or about $32.4k street price. Not bad, really.

Interesting... Atlantic Blue or Mahogoney Red, Mahogoney Red or Atlantic Blue???
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
I think I'd just buy a $2 map. :) NAV would be terrific for cross-country trips, but I just don't take enough of those to justify it.
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
Atlantic Blue is my favorite Subaru color of all time. Can't resist... must correct spelling... "Mahogany" Red :) looks sophisticated and I imagine looks even better in person, but seems like it may be harder to re-sell if you hang onto it for awhile, since it's a somewhat trendy shade.

where are you at bigelm or where is this dealer at?
  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
I don't know why I typed it like that, it's not like I did the first time... (oh well)

Joisey in da hizzouze... hehehe! I'm in Bergen County, dealer is in Flemington ;-)

juice...I don't agree that this pricing made the VDC obsolete.

With 600 extra pounds to move, real world fuel economy, accelleration, handling and braking distance should be inferior to the VDC. However the VDC's price might require some downward adjustment.

I would not have bought a 600 pound heavier VDC. I traded in a nearly 500 pound heavier Passat W8 wagon on the VDC.

My take? Red would go well with a beige interior, so if you want gray get the Blue one.

I'm fine with maps, it's my wife that wants Nav. To be honest she wants a Legacy sedan, 2.5i or GT, Limited model. So we could get that with Nav and a Tribeca for me without it.

    Not any time soon, though.

Dave: I guess the VDC would still pickup the folks that don't like the new styling, as well.

But you gotta admit the pricing strategy seems odd.

To quibble a bit. Per a local District sales Manager, the NASIOC board has the price for a fully loaded B9 Tribeca 7 Seater w/DVD & Nav is $37,369. This puts the Tribeca at prety much a tie for fourth with the Montero. Not to diminish the Montero, but realistically the Montero is not quite the same level as what Subaru is aiming for. The Freestyle, Odyssey, Pilot and Higlander are the real competiotion. The Tribeca is the only one of these that come with AWD, NAV, DVD, and Side Curtian Airbags. I think the pricing is awesome and if the Magazine drive tests prove well this car will fly.

No blue... she wants Red. Although Red looks better with beige, but we have beige and it's definitely more to maintain. Besides, I have to have some say in this, this time around.. lol.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Watch, you won't get the color you want inside or out. ;-)

Not that it would be any different in my household.

For those of you who have actually been in the Tribeca 7 seater, I'm wondering if one can move the center seat forward, without moving the two outboard seats forward? Or in other, words do all of the center row seats move on independant tracks or do they just fold down in a 40/20/40 configuration?
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Not sure. The middle row seat track may be 60/40. Juice (or anybody), do you remember?

Yup. I wonder what Subaru is going to do with their OB lineup now that the Tribeca kind of eats into it's territory.

I'm sort of glad now that I didn't get the VDC wagon and went LGT.

  • bigelmbigelm Member Posts: 995
If I remember correctly, the middle slides with the right side of the bench (60/40). But then again, the level was broken to fully test it; so I've added no value to this post :-p

sweet subie - Wakefield Subaru is where I saw in last Saturday.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Rob - mighty big of you to admit you liked it. :-)

I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. But I'm also am willing to admit when I'm right. :)

It looked nice. I didn't sit in the back seat - my kids were there. I didn't have a whole lot of time to climb all over it as we were waiting for a Legacy wagon to be brought out for us. The 3rd row though is tiny like all the others. I wouldn't even try to climb back there.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
I'd feel really sorry for the dealers if they have to start discounting by 10% soon. That's just about all the profit in these things.

I wonder what NE sticker price is going to be. We typically have to add in emissions equipment and the $500 NE Subaru profit.
  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
The 2nd row seat backs are 40/20/40, the seat bottom is 60/40 (I think it's 60 left / 40 right) and the two sections slide independently.

    Bob,

The middle row SEATS are a 60/40 split( 60 on the right). The Seat backs are 40/20/40.

I'm new to this forum - but if I can help - I have a hardcover dealers sales book - does anybody have any questions?

The pricing is lower than we expected but I bet there is an " LL Bean" version in the works - perhaps with a wood grain dash - to be released at the same time as the SAAB version - What say you.

I disagree that the Tribeca's pricing makes the VDC obsolete. They are completely different cars with different customers in mind. Price is not everything. Sure it will take some VDC customers away, but render it obsolete??? That's like saying the Pilot makes the V6 Accord obsolete.

    Sly
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The base is 60/40. The 60 portion is on the passenger side.

Sly: if a Pilot EX cost less than an Accord EX V6, I bet Honda wouldn't many of the latter. But it costs a few grand more, as you'd expect.

"Sly: if a Pilot EX cost less than an Accord EX V6, I bet Honda wouldn't many of the latter. But it costs a few grand more, as you'd expect."

That's non-sense. Completely different cars apeealing to different people. You're statement could only be valid if EVERYONE wanted a big SUV, which is far from being the case.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
But the Tribeca is a lot closer in size compared to the Outback. In fact, measurements show they're not that far off at all. The cargo area, for instance, is about the same width and length, as my earlier measurements showed.

It's taller, mostly, and wider outside.

wow have you checked the prices on the 05 durango? 5.7 hemi, dvd, nav, etc for 35k i think it was
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Honestly? You couldn't give me one of those.

It's just all wrong. Too big, too trucky, swills too much gas, too hard to park, too everything.

Another point - just checked the KBB values of a '98 Durango V6 against a '98 Forester L automatic, and guess what? The Forester is worth $500 more, $9750 to $9250.

New, that Durango costs roughly double. OUCH. By a Forester L today for $19k and in 7 years you will have a higher residual.

OK, maybe with that DVD it'll be worth about the same as that Forester. LOL
