Just do it. I'd also like to see the pix.
I'm getting some beige fabric colour and striping the agate with it from the floor up. Or should I go with a burlwood synthetic type colour?
  • bigal31bigal31 Member Posts: 189
"iowagigguy" I thought I'd go out again today and look again in overcast,it's still grey-blue.

"themacguy",broke out the sales brochure you were talking about and your are correct "beige" that's with the computer. Is it possible that "beige" and the computer come as a package?

Do the beige overheads have the power overhead convenience group?
  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
I see crashing and burning - definitely beige - no power overhead - sorry.

    However, here's a thought.

I do have the overhead console (just not the power bit), and the clip, sunglasses pocket and garage door opener pocket assembly is beige.

Maybe it's the overhead console, not the power overhead console that dictates the colour.
  • jones27jones27 Member Posts: 42
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this problem. Mine has a power overhead console and is most certainly LIGHT GREY...

The thing is, we all see colors differently and to some it may look grey, to others it may look beige......whatever. I like the response of "it looks different in different light!"

Let it go, it doesn't matter. The truck is a great truck and unless you are laying on your back looking up, you'll never see that headliner. And if you are laying on your back, don't put your feet on the headliner, grey or beige, they will show up!

    GUYS!!!
C'mon! I'm getting a stiff neck out there staring at the roof!!!

    Got an idea!

Why don't we call it bluish-greyish-beige and be done with it!

Anybody installed the Flowmasters? If so, what style, what did you pay, and how do you like them???
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Jay, the shift on the fly works perfectly well with any transmission, manual or automatic. You do not have to de-clutch to engage. When you shift the transfer case, the type of transmission is invisible to the drop box (transfer case). Shifting into 4WD low range is an entirely different pussycat (sorry Boo, no pun intended). You should only shift into low range from a stopped condition. Sometimes it is difficult to release the drop box from 4WD low range, and you must reverse and sort of ease it out of low range. For further information, consult the owners
manual, or Andy Jordan. He probably has more time in 4WD then most other people have in 2WD.

Tim, I have the overhead convenience group and it also comes with that same "sterile" blah color.

Tow, why don't we call it "greige"?

Spike, last fuel load indicated 18.2 MPG average. Both the computer and mathematics were approximately alike, although the math portion read a bit higher. This was probably because I filled it myself in PA and topped off,; The re-fill was in NJ and they stop when full although they do round off the price. Again, route 72 in Jersey @60 MPH in cruise, a very flat road with little traffic when I was on it. No A/C, all windows fully down and rear slider open. Just Boo and I. I'm well satisfied. Love my truck.

    BOO:
    Excellent idea on the "greige!"

Just walked outside to take a look at the headliner on the '95 Ram... Guess what! It's GREIGE!!!

Now then... Have you heard anything more on the Flowmasters? What configuration are you thinking of (dual-side, dual-rear, single outlet?)
  • jkinsleyjkinsley Member Posts: 20
    After 350+ happy, blissful miles:
    First tank = 11.9 MPG
Second tank = 14.3 (so far)

What a great truck! Can't get over how it drives,.... feels so solid, heavy and substantial. The rack and pinion steering is great!

Ordered A.R.E.'s new "Z" model cap. It seems to have similar styling to the Leer (frameless windows, curved rear glass, in other words: that SUV look). There are no Leer dealers around here, so I checked out the "Z", liked it and ordered it.

I'm just wondering if maybe the inside roof of the truck cap will turn out to be ...... beige.

Tow, I think I would opt for dual-rear, but dual-side might be okay as well. I hope our friend posts soon with the information.

All this talk about colors, made me go outside and look at my truck. Grey Mist seats, grey headliner, console, doors, etc. :-)

I am planning on buying a 4x4 auto with V6 engine. I recently joined this chat room and have not completely followed the saga of the colors. Which colors do people recommend for interior? I plan on going with the Red exterior.
    Thanks!
  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
And she helpfully solved the problem:

AJ: "What would you call the colour of the headliner dear?"

    Wifey: "What's a headliner?"

AJ: "That thing on the roof"

Wifey: "Oh, you have a shirt like that don't you."

AJ: "Yes, well, anyway, what colour would you call it?"

    Wifey: "It's fawn"

AJ: "Fawn, what the hell is fawn!!"

    Wifey: "Well you asked"

So there you have it, fawn it is (at least in my truck), but the mals and I will refer to it as greige as officially designed - expect to see that as a late addition colour for 2001.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Jay, what I would sincerely recommend for the interior of your truck, is the 4.7 V-8.

andy jordan: Andy, you can never get a simple and/or uncomplicated answer from girls when referencing color (colour). It is always some sort of tone. eg. "That's not green Honey, that's between a sage and a fern. In some lights it even looks like an asparagus." Reply; "I don't want to make a damn salad! I'm trying to select a floor mat here!" Andy, trust me it never changes. Wednesday (06/14) Judy and I will celebrate our 42nd anniversary, and I have yet to score one goal. And when and if I finally do, it won't be on color (colour). Enough said!

Congratulations - 42 years - that's 2 murders and a robbery isn't it (without time off for good behaviour (behavior).

And please don't talk about goals - remember the land of my birth - Portugal 3 England 2 hurts man, it really hurts :-(

    We wuz robbed!

Guys, if you were Portuguese, just think of how happy you would be. Beside that, the food is much better. Trust me, I know!

On day's like today I'm Canadian!!!!!

How can you compare Portuguese food with Black Pudding - aagh, yes, I see your point.
  • steveeaststeveeast Member Posts: 158
    without black pudding.
  • gsu1gsu1 Member Posts: 43
Well guys I always thought my headliner was light grey until yesterday. Now it is beige. I do like the sound of the color greige it sound more truck like than the other options. Please stop pointing out these thing next thing you know my truck won't be Patriot Blue and Driftwood.
  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
All those stereotypes about English food, it isn't fair is it. We all know that it is some of the best in the world right!!!

And healthy too of course :-)
  • gbilhimergbilhimer Member Posts: 53
Jay I have a 4x2 Sport, flame red with agate interior that I really like. My dad has an RT and has the mist grey interior which is ok but i prefer the darker color. Also Bookitty is right get that 4.7 motor! I got the 4.7 with the automatic and 3.55 lsd rear end. The 6 does not get enough better mileage to justify that extra hauling and towing power IMO.
  • gbilhimergbilhimer Member Posts: 53
OK I have a grey headliner in my truck. I ordered in December and took delivery the 28th of January.
I also have the power overhead convience group.
Maybe it has something to do with the exterior color that you get? Just a thought.
  • bigal31bigal31 Member Posts: 189
"gbilhimer" you might just be on to something.

All I can tell you is that this mystery is killing me!Granted in the grand scheme of things this is a small slice of the "Quad" pie.But doesn't there have to be a real reason for DC to do something like this?I think it has to be some kind of conspiracy. What next maybe we all have 4.2L and not 4.7L....Hmmmmm.

    Flame Red 4x4 (grey overhead)and I think?? 4.7L.

Actually, the headliners were neither beige or greige. It does not matter. The other night I heard a noise in my garage. In the dim light I saw
towcrazy2 and Andy Jordan. They were spraying my headliner with greige paint (50% Canadian content)
so that all Quads would look uniformly boring. They were at your house as well. I saw it, I did!

    Bookitty
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
What is more boring than a greige headliner? Why British food of course!

    Bookitty
  • iowabigguyiowabigguy Member Posts: 552
How can you say British food is boring, Havent you ever watched the "2 Fat Ladies" on the food channel???
  • colbatescolbates Member Posts: 37
OK Bookitty, Andy and towcrazy2 must have stopped by my work some time yesterday morning. Yesterday, I went out into the parking lot a little after 2am to check my headliner. I could sweat that I saw grey. Then when I left work at 9am the headliner, visors and overhead console was beige!

To make things even more confusing the interior 360 degree view on the www.4adodge.com site of the QC shows a mist grey interior with the greige headliner!
  • jkinsleyjkinsley Member Posts: 20
The headliner/overhead console of my 'agate' interior is definitely beige, .... about the same color as those prolific wall switch covers in most everybody's home. Apparently I unwittingly ordered the 'two-tone agate' interior.

Anyhow, when I happen to look up and notice the 'beige', I just put on my sunglasses and mash down on the 4.7 a bit and any concerns I had quickly pass.

My wife and I were married for 3 blissful years, ...... 3 out of 17, that ain't too bad is it guys?

The rest of the time we made Cain and Abel look like the Osmond Brothers!

I've seen the '2 Fat Ladies' on the Food Channel.

I have a LDSG 4.7 4X4 with the POCG and the headliner is def. Light Grey. (Have Agate interior.)

  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
Geez I'm tired (all that spraying in different parts).

British food - I can not agree that British food is boring, it is definitely "interesting". Walk down any British 'high street' and you will see typical British fare - curry houses, chinese take outs, Kebab shops etc.

I wonder what happened to the England of my youth - meat and tater pie, fish and chips (not fries, chips), spotted dick (don't delete this Meredith - it's not rude, honest), faggots (don't delete this Meredith, I'm not name calling - honest) et al.

Aaagh, memories - I hear the faint strains of 'Land of Hope and Glory' and 'Jerusalem' even as I sit here.

Headliner - well I guess it may have something to do with exterior colour, but it seems kinda weird, matching interior colour would be far better surely - and it means producing two lots of all the consoles - oh well. Here is a prime example of why we need the Dakota manager in the forum - to answer these questions, or maybe he is already here and too busy laughing at this debate to respond.

By the way, there is only one fat lady now.

Finally to be serious for a minute, no honest I can be:

Bookitty is celebrating 42 years of marriage today. I for one congratulate you and your wife, in this day and age it is something that you can rightly be proud of, and here's to the next 42.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
What the ground clearance of a 4x4 Dakota Quad Cab is with the 31" tires included in the t&h package?
  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
But I believe from deep down in the memory that clearance is about 7"
  • tpmillertpmiller Member Posts: 45
you and the bride should be proud. On your 50th, we'll all meet and Andy's house for some spotted dick and faggots.
  • andy_jordanandy_jordan Member Posts: 764
But its the other way round - faggots for main course, spotted dick for desert.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Andy, thank you for your nice comments regarding our wonderful life together. Now, down to the serious stuff. You mentioned that there is only one "fat lady" surrviving. The other suffered from diseases relegated to rich food. I think that they lubed their motorcycle with butter.

Henny Youngman died, but fortunately we have Jeff Kinsley who is now doing the one liners.

As for the Iowabigguy, he is heretofore sentenced
to consume British fare for the rest of his natural life (or it will seem like that).

    I hope I didn't miss anybody.

    Remember "mood rings?"

Through our ridiculous banter on headliners (speaking inclusively), I'm now convinced that DC ergonomics engineers have created the very first "mood-liner" in a production vehicle!
  • bigal31bigal31 Member Posts: 189
Well it finally happened.Sure we can send a man to the moon(so what)but we can't figure out why D/C puts "beige"in some Quads and "grey"(light blue) in mine, and in others! Slipping guys..LOL

Congratulations on 42 years! My wife and I will celebrate 37 years this December. Maybe she will "let" me get a Quad 4x4 for an anniversary present -- yeah, dream on). Ain't love grand!!!

    I was 42 on May 17th.
  • jkinsleyjkinsley Member Posts: 20
Last evening I drove up to the Dodge dealer.

I was going to ask the Sales Manager about the agate/beige headliner saga, ..... until I looked down and saw that he had two different color socks on.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
jtc43; Congratulations, actually, my wife got me the Quad and a 6 HP air compressor for my retirement gift. Great girl.

themacguy; So you're 42, Sonny boy! At last we found you!

jkinsley; Thank heaven, I thought that it was only
me that was experiencing those problems.

    Thanks all.

when this first came up, I went and looked and positively reported seeing beige with agate. Since, we have had no sun. While driving today, the headliner et.al. are now definitley a bluish grey and look fine. It appears to change perceived color based on lighting. Or it is the same material as one of those little humidity measureers that change color based on humidity.

Lucky you! My wife won't let me retire (I'm 57). She said I will live longer if I continue to work. Is this what they mean by "fuzzy logic"?
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Saying you will live longer is roughly translated thus; She will live better. Besides JT, you're still a youngster. I have ten years on you. Please go to work now, your Social Security contributions are important to me. Thank you.

    Bookitty

PS Everything seems "fuzzy" to me of late.

I appreciate all of the information that has been shared re: the Quad Cab. I think it is a great truck. I wish the best for all of you quad owners.

My neice works at the Ford Truck plant in Louisville, she was able to get me a SuperCrew on the X-Plan. My cost was $300 under invoice. When compared with the Quad, there wasn't much difference in price.

My wife and son liked the Ford better, I hoped I made the right decision. Only time will tell.

    Good luck to all!!
