Pick mine up tommorow. 1500 LS, Ext Cab, short bed, Z71... ordered back in May. Came in last Thursdsay but I was on vacation (figures). Didn't have any trouble ordering, just took foreever. Mine is solid color. Like a nice interior but it's still a truck and the first time I take it in the woods I'm sure it will get scratched. Solid paint is cheaper to repaint later.

How long did it take from your target production week until it arrived at your dealer. Ordered mine on 8/7, was given a TPW of 9/18

I've seen some interior pictures of the Sierra C3 as having steering wheel mounted radio controls. I had them on my 1995 Trans Am. Just another one of those little gadgets you get used to having. Anybody know if GM plans on making those available on all Silverados and Sierras?

    Thanks! Paul

I recall someone recommending a certain wax for black paint(silverado)--can someone help with the brand and provide where to purchase it?
  • jaijayjaijay Member Posts: 162
The wax you are looking for is called Zaino and can be ordered from their web site.

Does anybody know the REAL h.p. and torque specs. for the 6.0 engine in the 2001 Silverado ??? (NOT the H.D. model). I have seen about 4 different specs. Local dealer has no idea . I even called the GM helpline and they were supposed to get back to me within 48 hours . What a joke. That was 3 days ago . H E L P !!!
  • jaijayjaijay Member Posts: 162
Try the GM Power Train website. They have all the information for GM engines and should have the specs for the current 6.0 engine.

    The M30 Automatic Trans.
is no longer on the option
    list for a 2001, LS 1500
    Silverado.It is a required
    option when ordering the
    5.3 engine but no longer
shows up on list of options.Wonder why?
  • royb3royb3 Member Posts: 6
Thanks for the link jaijay. I looked there and the specs they show are for the 2000 model year. I am looking for the 2001 model year specs. Do you or anyone else have any ideas or information? The information that i have seen says that the 2001 engine has an increase in HP and torque. Problem is that I have seen 3 or 4 different specs ranging from 300 HP to 320 HP and 355 ft/lbs torque to 370 ft/lbs torque. Not a huge difference but every little bit helps.
  • roger350roger350 Member Posts: 157
The HD brochure shows 300 HP at 4400 RPM & 360 ft/lb at 4000. I doubt the LD and HD will be different. The 320/370 and 330 HP figures we've seen must only be for the Yukon Denali and C3 Sierra? Hopefully, the fuel mileage increase will be more dramatic than the power increase. Realisticly, it didn't need any more power anyway, but it was a gas hog. Lets hope they improved it there.

New to the site and enjoying the info. Ordered a 2001 2500HD, 4X, SB, Loaded +/- $29,700 out the door. Found out today it will be built 9/18 so hope to get it end of Sep/beginning Oct. Can't wait. Has anyone heard of the vibe probs on the 2001 that the 99's and 00's have had?

I have a 2K 2500 ext cab with the 6.0L. No vibration at all. The trucks affected were the 1500 series.

TPW was 31 July - built in Ft Wayne, Indiana - truck was delivered to the dealer in North Dakota on 17 Aug. Didn't expect delivery until September so no complaints. I love the truck (as does everyone else). Only thing that was changed was the tires. Ordered LT245s came with P265s. Assume it has something to do with the Firestone recall.

Sounds like you got a bad one. Mine is the most well built truck I have driven, and I have driven a lot of trucks. My only complaint with the truck is the fuel economy, but if you buy something built to tow >9Klbs, fuel economy is not high on the list of priorities.

Thanks for the responses. I too bought mine to tow. I have a 7Klb trailer and hope to get over 10MPG with the 6.0 and 3.73. We shall see. I get the impression that the vibration prob has been somewhat remedied in the 2001's (for the most part).

What's your opinion on this question for 2001? Chevy or GMC on quality, performance, ride and value. I've heard GMC edges out Chevy but I have always favored the Chevy line. Does the 2500 out perform the 1500 in the ride category. Your opinions matter!

Can anyone give me a opinion on the Sierra 1500 4.8 with the tow package. Pulling 5000 lb travel trailer with a stabalizer hitch and loaded with food etc. to much?? I'll have a couple small motorcycles in the bed with firewood and other stuff. I like the MPG the Sierras offer. I 'd like to buy one of them than a 2500.
the gas drops off a bit but the invoice for the stock Sieera and stock sierra 2500 are almost the same. Until you add the tow package etc,,

    thanks,

but much more stable towing with my buddies v10 CC F350.

I have gotten as low as 7mpg and as high as 11 towing with my 4.8L 4.10 rear end 5 speed.

I have a CC 2500HD Silverado on order with the 6.0L. I tow in the Rockies and open windy deserts of the southwest running 75mph and at times feel a little like the tail wagging the dog. 4.8 has plenty of power, but you gotta keep it wound up.

Has anyone seen a 2001 silverado dually out there? I ordered mine in Aug. and was given a tpw of 9-25 but that has come and gone with no good news! I'd be surprised if it shows before thanksgiving.
  • trucks4me2trucks4me2 Member Posts: 31
Not sure about the CC, but my 2500HD had a TPW of 9/18 and was finished on 9/26 and now have a VIN. Should have started the transit on Friday. Will see tomorrow.

Bought a 2000 2500 HD in july of this year, so was wondering about this all new 2001HD ,that has a payload of 600 lbs more than than the 2000HD. Can't see that is much of a big deal over the 2000HD, As all of these trucks are classified as light duty ,heavy duty trucks. The only diff. i see is a torsion bar front end on all their trucks and 2 new engines and a little more power on the 6000.
  • markbuckmarkbuck Member Posts: 1,021
The greatest appeal for me for the 2001HD's is the frame and 4w disc brakes and maybe better suspension. Oh ya, and improved trannys....
  • caveman3caveman3 Member Posts: 14
have 4 wheel disc brakes on my 2000HD, 4 speed heavy duty auto trans same, but THEY do have a better 6 speed manual and the allison tranny on 2001HD.
  • jlflemmonsjlflemmons Member Posts: 2,242
The big difference between the 2000 HD and the 2001 HD, and the reason for the 600lbs gain, is that the 2K 2500 HD w/6.0L engine was included in the cafe average for fuel economy. As I, and many of you others with the 6.0L now know, fuel economy is not it's strong point. By raising the load capacity 600lbs, the truck is no longer figured into the CAFE average. It's called a loophole. GM knew that the 8.1L and 6.6L diesel would be above the load range for cafe, so they bumped the 6.0 load capacity up just enough to get it out of the average. This way, the CAFE average looks better, and they did it without spending any money. Slick, huh.

the 2000 is considered a light duty....wheres the 2001 is classified as a heavy duty...like the f250 light duty versus the f250 Super Duty...
  • jlflemmonsjlflemmons Member Posts: 2,242
is only a matter of a couple of hundred pounds total GVW. My 2000 2500 is rated to tow 9200lbs where the 2001 is maybe 9500lbs. At issue is where the federal weight break point is for EPA classification. This is why GM upped the weight rating on the 6.0L equipped trucks. The weight rating on the 5.3L falls into the CAFE requirements, but that engine gets much better mileage, so it doesn't hurt the average as much.

    2001 Silverado LT:

I have a noise at 80+ MPH. If you are on the passenger side it sounds like it was coming from the driver's side front post. If you are on the driver's side, it sounds like it is coming from the passenger front post. Help!!

    It is driving me crazy!!
  • caveman3caveman3 Member Posts: 14
my 2000 2500HD manuf. MAY 2000 has 2500HD on the window sticker.I can see why they upped the wt. rating on the 2001, to get a better GAS average. maybe my 2000 is a heavy duty and the 2001 is a super heavy duty? but actually , looks like they are classifing it in a higher wt. rating to up their fuel averages on the light duty trucks.

The rattling you are hearing is the moulding around the windshield rattling due to airflow. Take the truck to an auto glass shop and ask them to put a bead of sealer around the moulding.

1500 max towing (equipped properly)=9300 lbs
2500 max towing (equipped properly)=8800 lbs
2500HD max towing (equipped properly)=15,800 lbs
3500HD max towing (equipped properly)=15,700 lbs
    1500 Max GVWR = 6400 lbs
    2500 Max GVWR = 8600 lbs
    2500HD Max GVWR = 9200 lbs
    3500HD Max GVWR = 11,400 lbs
    For what it's worth...
  • jlflemmonsjlflemmons Member Posts: 2,242
Just remember that the 2500 for 2001 is not the same at the 2500 for 2000. The direct comparison is the 2500HD for 2001 (6.0L Only) to the 2500 w/HD suspension and 6.0L in 2000. The window sticker on my 2000 model made in May '00 says "2500HD" and at the bottom of the sticker reads "This vehicle as equipped is rated to tow 9200lbs with a weight distributing hitch" or words to that effect.

The 2001 2500 series is not available with the 6.0L engine and the 4L80E (heavy duty, but not the Allison)transmission. That is why the tow rating is lower. I know this is confusing, imagine how I felt when the dealer told me I couldn't order a 2500 with a 6.0L. I made him pull out the books and prove to me what the deal was. That is when the real story came out about the CAFE average.

BTW, the 2500HD (2001) has such a high tow rating because you can get the 8.1L or the 6.6 diesel with the heavier transmission, Allison or the standard. Either way, I cannot imagine driving down the road towing 15,800lbs!!!

It has a little difference is the outside looks, a taller ride height, the option for the 8.1l and diesel, A CREW CAB, and a big ol badge on the side that says 2500HD....the light duty ones just say 2500...I don't realy care about the differences a lot, i just wanted a crew cab....I ordered the 6.0 and for 2k1 the heads are aluminum and the torque has been increased...there is also conflicting stories on whether HP was raised to 325 on the HD...
  • 4x44x4 Member Posts: 114
It says that the HD will have 370 pounds of torque....It has also been said that the brochure was put out in July before GM actually decided if they were going to put the upgraded 6.0 in theHD...6.0 in the cadillac has 345HP and 380 pounds of torque and the Denali has 325HP...there are so many versions of this engine, it is really confusing to find out the real answers...my dealer swears he had an official GM memo stating the HD gets the 325 and the 370...

I've had my 2001 LT ext cab 2WD for about a week now. I've wrung it out really well on all sorts of roads at all (reasonable) speeds, both 'bare' and pulling a boat (about 2000# rig). I am *very* picky, and can't find even a whisper of vibration.

By the way, the 5.3L engine just plain blows away the old 350 I had.

Last week i ordered my silverado and was wondering how you can track your order? It's my understanding there is a gm order # assigned to you. My sales guy did not know which number i needed. Does the gm order # consist of both numbers and letters or only numbers? Any help would be much appreciate.

    Thanks, Lewis
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
yOU CAN TRACK IT BY CALLING GM CUSTOMER SERVICE

    (Sorry bout the caps)

Ok this is how it goes. They place your order your given an order number when it is accepted by gm. Then about a wk - 2 wks later they give you a TPW (target production wk). Then your truck is built and shipped. ALso your salesman can easily track it for you. Saves you time and he has to work for his $$$

I'm glad to hear they're building some good ones... I still haven't decided for sure if I want to take a chance on getting another shaker. My arbitration hearing was last Tuesday for requesting a buy-back on my 2K Sierra. I drove a 2001 Silverado LT a few weeks ago and the steering wheel vibrated badly at about 68 mph. I was very disappointed, as I thought surely they had fixed this problem by now. Must just be the luck of the draw. Hopefully yours will continue to be a jewel!

Once again, I'm looking for possible solutions to rattles that seem to be coming around my windshield. It starts at 50 and gets worse. At 80, it is unbearable!

    2001 LT (4X4)

I got once response from Peter- Thanks!

    Are there others?
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
do it, or your dealer and let him sub out to a glass shop, or you can do it yourself...the last one is perhaps the most challenging while option #2 might prove to be most frustrating and option 1 perhaps the most expensive. Not many other options other than those....

I have had the same problem and to my amazement I found that the rubber seals that run top to bottom along the posts will actually lift at highway speeds. This causes an annoying slapping of the windshield. I fixed this once with rubber cement as a test and it worked; however, rubber cement does not last. Now that I am sure of the solution I will silicone them to the window. Hope this helps!

I've decided to buy an extended warranty in about 6k miles. I've researched both types I'm interested in: WarrantyGold and GM Major Guard. The max for GM is 6yr/100000, the max for WarrantyGold is 7yr/100000. However, the cost is much lower for the WarrantyGold and the 7 years start at contract date instead of just 3 years for GM. It also looks like WarrantyGold covers more. They also pay by credit card and you can take your vehicle to any ASE service shop.

Anyway, having said all that.....has anyone had any experience with WarrantyGold?

    Thanks....John

can you tell what the date is on the frame tag (located on driver's side frame rail, below the door) Just curious, as I have read where others have driven '01's that still shake, I believe these vehicles had dates from June or earlier. I drove one with a July date and it drove fine, drove a couple with earlier dates and they shook. How many miles on your truck? Still no signs of problems?
