Can you give me the number or e-mail to someone in Ford Marketing. I have a few questions that I want to ask about my order because I've been waiting since February 19. My e-mail is ggreenwade@txchiro.edu. Thanks. I appreciate it.
  • rjkunklerjkunkle Member Posts: 74
what did you order? Was the Tonneau in the order? I know the wedgewood blue and/or the green was a late availability paint , but they are all out now.

My original order was placed February 19. I canceled the tonneau cover May 11. Since then I've been waiting. The build date is July 24-31. I wanted to ask what in the world happened to my order. I have read here that several people ordered in May and they already have their truck. Is it because of the color, back ordered parts, etc. Can they move the build date back to July 12 so I can get it sooner? I ordered Estate Green, 4x2, sun roof, fully loaded with everything, tan leather seats with no tonneau cover. I talked to someone at the plant on June 13 and they were able to get a VIN number that night. That's more than what my dealer has done. I feel that when you get a VIN number you will get a build date the following week.

    Thanks

I too talked to Vivian about the standard radio, which will be a combo cassette/CD (made by Visteon)after July 24th or you can special order the optional 6-disc CD code #916 (also made by Visteon) with Pioneer amp and 6 speakers and sub.

For the average listener the optional system will be OK, but for the audiophile, it won't. The Visteon has no pre outs so the Pioneer or any additional amp will have to be fed speaker line inputs.... and She didn't know who made the sub, but I'm sure it will be a ported one for efficiency... sealed would be the best, but that takes more power. And just for you novices, 290 watts is peak power, no one pays any attention to that figure. RMS is what you want to look at.... and for that system it would be about 145 watts driving a total of 5 speakers (tweeters and woofers are considered a single speaker), or about 45 watts per each...... thats not much for an audiophile system.... but much more than a standard radio.

Just as always, I'm going to build my audio system from the ground up with aftermarket pieces.

Also, the Mandarin Gold paint will be no more and is to be switched to Silver Frost (code TS) as of the start of Job #2 (July 24th) .... wish I could see one in Silver before my cut off date, but that won't happen.

Has anyone verified that the cargo cage can be used with the hard tonneau cover in place? In an earlier message (long time ago) someone thought that there wouldn't be enough room to flip the cargo cage if the hard tonneau was in place with the rear half open. Looking at the bed it looks like it will work but it may be close...

truckenvy, I have called Ford dealers and Ford's customer service and neither of them know of any changes to the ST. I did explain that Edmunds has already updated their information.

Can you provide the phone number for Vivian or someone else that I can speak to about the changes.

    Thanks

I'm still waiting for my cover but I have the Cage. I have confirmed that the "Cargo Divider" that comes with the Tonneau cover will NOT work with the cage but its a separate piece so its not critical.

I guess as a test I can put a broom handle across the bed over the mounting holes in the center of the bed and try to flip the cage. Best that would do though is give you a definite "It Will NOT Work" if it hits the handle. If it doesn't hit the handle all it would show is "It MIGHT Work" since I'm not using the real thing.

    truckenvy:

In the event one were to choose to go aftermarket on the radio, would you recommend ordering just the minimal radio option, or none at all.

Is there extra work in the "none" option since they may not then finish off the mounts and placements for the speakers etc. I suppose a true audiophile would want to replace all the factory speaker wire anyway.

If this needs to go offline, my email is:
    j o e lgarzatx@hotmail.com (no spaces).

    Thanks.

Mr. Kunkle: I cannot find your email to send you an email request for a phone number for Ford. Is there another way for you to give it to me. I really would like to have it.

I finally saw an Estate Green ST today....parked right next to my black ST at work! The estate green color looks nice.
  • psikomompsikomom Member Posts: 5
I also saw an Estate Green driving by my black. It did look nice. If Ford doesn't come thru with a tonneau cover there will be a lot of after market stuff offered by custom detailers. Maybe find one that works with the cargo cage. All I know is since my alarm was activated the car locks itself, with the keys inside and the engine running. It probably laughs too.

I was just making a funny---I have been reading your posts before I ordered...after I ordered...after I received my ST...You have been very patient....IH8W8TN..."I hate waiting"...when you finally get your ST Maybe you should consider those plates!!!!GET IT NOW??????LOL!!!!;)

My husband drives a '91 Blazer and since getting my Sport Trac he got the new car bug. He loves his old jalopy because it has yet to fail him. No mechanical problems since day one, except for the usual battery, bulbs, etc. He doesn't need a Sport Trac so we test drove several Explorers. He really liked them so he went to the Edmunds topics for Explorer owners. A few said they loved theirs but the majority bashed the transmission. He has now backed away from the Explorer. My question is: Since the Sport Trac is 'kin' to the Explorer, are we going to have transmission problems?????

Ordered my mandarin gold ST 3/23 with
    tonneau. Cancelled tonneau 7-10 days
    later. Still waiting. to rb125--haven't
found any ST's in the Sacrament area
with leather and moon roof. Can't go
out of state due to CA requirements. Would
have to buy used. Beard1--finally got
a vin and build date of 8-7 with a
price adjustment. Had to change color to
    white tho.

Hey I saw it again. The Sport Trac Taxi. This time I got a chance to speak to the driver. He loves it and compared his comments the explorers he has driven in the fleet. "Much better" he said! "Very nice ride"!

I did get a closer look at the Tonneau Cover. The feel of the cover was much smoother than I thought before. It does have a little texture to it but not much. It was compleatly closed this time. I did notice a rubber seal down the middle of the cover where the hinge is. It was round sticking up on top of the hinge. My only thought was keep it siliconed!!!!

bigtoe52 - Good luck trying to get your truck any faster. Maybe your order was lost with mine. I've been waiting since February 19.

deciding2 - I figured you were just kidding. I wasn't sure what you were saying about plates. You mean skid plates. My truck is a 4x2 and I don't plan on driving it off of the road so I don't think I will need them. It's only a work and travel truck. Thanks again. A little humor helps me get through this ordeal with Ford. What a nightmare. I'm counting the days till July 24 when my truck will be built. Yeaaaa!

Iwould like to know if anyone else has been told what I was told. When i was looking at the ST , I was told that the rear console controls for the radio could be operated separate from the front. It was told to me that the people in the rear could listen to the radio while the driver could listen to a CD.
I went back to the dealer and was told that Ford had put out some ST's with a dual tuner which would let you do just this.
Now the dealer is saying they have heard of no such thing.
  • rjkunklerjkunkle Member Posts: 74
I am sorry somebody seems to have lied to you. I don't know of any vehicle with dual tuners for rear audio controls. That would be a novel idea, but have not seen one hit production.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get what you wanted when you wanted it...I too live in the Sacramento area and had no problem what so ever getting the ST I wanted...What dealer are you using...Ordered the toreador red, pre. sport group, convenience group,6-disc and the cloth comfort group...4.10 limited-slip rearend...Was told it would take 6-8 wks...In the mean time the dealer found the exact same one at another dealer and got it to me in 24 days...All on his own...We now have 2300 trouble free miles on it and lovin' every minute of it...Not all dealers are created equal...We went through the Costco Auto Program for a big saving...

I just got back from experiencing the Sport Trac at a local Ford dealer. I must say I am truly impressed. I would have driven it home today, but I need the weekend to think it through.

I had everything priced and I added the Cargo Cage. The dealership priced this at $365.00, however, at Ford's website it is priced at $195.00.

Anyone know which is correct? Thanks a ton for all your help and useful messages. Hopefully I will have more to add soon!
  • ssicchissicchi Member Posts: 18
I paid $195 for my cage and I didn't think I would use it at all but I have used it a couple of times and it was worth the bucks. But don't pay that much for it wait and buy it later.

Picked up my ST last nite and put 155 miles on. 4X4 white w/sport, convenience packages, 6 disk cd, cargo cage and skid plates. Ordered it on 5/22 and received vin the next day. Was built on 6/19-20 and delivered on 7/6. Love it so far. Have not noticed any shudder w/low speed turning however the gas cover does rub. The doors have minimal paint coverage on the bottoms, kind of like a heavy overspray, not sure if there is a clear coat there. Any suggestions how to tell.

The head turning factor is certainly in effect here in Pennsylvania.
  • denverdavedenverdave Member Posts: 13
Speaking of the rear radio controls--does anyone know whether it is possible to disable them (temporarily)? It will be a few years until my daughter is old enough to wreak havoc with the radio from the back, but it seems reasonable that the driver could "turn off" the rear controls. I didn't find any reference to such capabilities in the owners manual--perhaps I missed it. Thanks in advance.
  • psikomompsikomom Member Posts: 5
I got the cargo cage thru the dealer, he said he would give me tonneau and cargo cage for his price, which is $166.00. Such a deal. My ST was born on 3/30/00 and I have 500 miles on it now. I have had absolutely no trouble with it except the alarm has a mind of its own. My gas cover is very close to hitting but doesn't. Also, paint not on bottom of doors, but it looks like there is a protective coating of something, a beige or gold color, shiny. No shimmy so far, mine is 4x4. I love the get up and go.
  • rjkunklerjkunkle Member Posts: 74
Press 3 & 5 at the same time will disable the rear radio controls. When you do so the headphones icon will disappear from the rear display. Hope this helps.

I just completed the first oil change for my ST today. Exactly 30 days of ownership and already 3000 miles. I love my ST! I have all of the same imperfections as you all do but it has not changed my opinion of the truck! I love my ST!

I found a place on the web that located a trailer hitch that bolted right up without any modifications or busted knuckles. These guys are great...I had my hitch in three days and the price was $141.00 which included shipping from Ontario to Georgia. Class III round tube 2" receiver.

Here is the address www.hitch-web.com. Check them out.

    actually she said:

"I would have to disagree about the Nissans and Toyotas. The quality of their product doesn't even come close to the Ford. The Ford product on the whole is more solid and the parts for the interiors are much better made."

Obviously Lisa justs posts and doesn't read what people are saying. I don't expect anyone to rip on there purchase of an ST, but facts are facts. There are problems with these trucks ( FOR NOW, mostly cosmetic) that should just not be getting out of the factory

Your not going to read about these "CONSISTENT"
quality issues with new Nissan or Toyota Pickups on their Edmunds sites, especially with the Nissan CC
  • tractiontraction Member Posts: 141
These boards always seem to end up in 'my vehicle is better than yours' posts.

As for Nissans not having any problems, the Nissan board is has a lot of them problems mentioned with the Nissan truck including 'vibrations', A/C noises etc. I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder.

Some things I would like to see on the 2002

#1. Floor lights under dash when door opens.

#2. Re-design the inside front door handles, I
am a big guy and the small door release is
up under the handle and hard to get ahold of.

#3. Larger FORD emblem on the rear tailgate and
    move it up.

#4. Change the Sport Trac emblem from white and
red to something else, but I dont know what
for sure. Maybe just EXPLORER ST

Well that is it for now, maybe someone from Ford Will see this ?????

Ordered from dealer in Wa. 4X2, mandarin gold
with all options but block heater. Cancelled
tonneau cover due to material hold approx week
later. Went out of area due to price. No one
would match deal. Laughed at me. Don't under-
stand that type of mind set. 3% dealer hold
back is pure profit. Vehicle is in and gone.
Will finally have the ST in late August. Still
a long time to wait. 3/23 to 8/? Maybe will
have corrected some of the assembly problems by
    then. Jim

Today I had taken my son to get somethings for his 5th birthday and while in Walmart,my wife called me over and showed me the best present for my son,it was a radio control Sport Trac.
I have a gold 2x4 and it is a gold 4x4 but it sure was a surprise to find this on the shelves already and many people can't get the real thing.
Thinking about going back and getting one for myself.
By the way a also saw a red one there.
  • rjkunklerjkunkle Member Posts: 74
Go to Toysrus.com and type sport trac. The remote control shows up. I have the silver one. It looks just like my harvest gold ST.
  • cleekcleek Member Posts: 9
I now have 1500 miles my ST. My MPG averages 17.8. The vehicle is still a pleasure to drive and as served us well hauling lawn and garden supplies as well as the wife and babies.

I checked with Ford and they claim that the T-cover will peacefully coexist with the cargo cage. I didn't have the presence of mind to ask about the divider, but I have a hard time believing it can fit with the cage...

I plan to take the ST in at ~3000 miles to get the nits fixed. I experience the pulsing when turning at low speeds, and have the rubbing gas cap, but fortunately my lower doors all seem to have been painted (Note that my ST is White in color). Perhaps the more exciting colors have this issue. For once it may pay to be a boring guy...

A heads up for other owners -
I have experienced a problem with the power rear window. When the window is in the down position and then is moved to vent, the window rises to a slanted position, with the left side aprox. 3/4 of an inch higher than the right. The window has a fair amount of play when grasped gently shifted to-and-fro in this position. My guess is that the window isn't seating in the right channel. This kind of problem sounds like a TGIF PM factory SNAFU, but I though I would post the situation to give others a chance to check for themselves.

I think I'll go to Wal*Mart and pick up one of those remote-control STs so I'll have something to play with while the dealer figures out how to fix the rear window. I have taken a gander at the layout and can't quite figure out how the technician will get at the window, unless he removes the rear seat and most of the rear of the cab. Glad its under warranty...

Fortunately the weather has been pretty nice in western MD and the rear window stays down most of the time ;-)

Thx to all for sharing their info and experiences and a special thx to Bob Kunkle for posting scans of the parts info.

    Cheers, Cleek

ACTUALLY IF YOU CARE TO NOTICE, THE BANTER BACK AND FORTH ABOUT QUALITY ISSUES WITH THE NISSAN CC IS AMONGST JUST A FEW OWNERS, CAN'T BE SAID ABOUT THE FORD.
  • mdemarcomdemarco Member Posts: 13
Everyone has been so helpful with pointing out minor flaws, I thought I would give my 2 cents.

Upon a recent trip to the dealer the fixed.. A ripped sun shad that was damaged during the moonroof leak fix, drivers side seat track (it was rocking and squeaked badly), and ordered new molding for the rear doors (did not fit to my liking). As for the fuel door, mine rubs slightly while opening, and they said "all Sport Tracs do that" and the power steering "pulse" was
"fixed" by bleeding out the PS (which did not fix the problem). My door bottoms are fully painted (deep wedgewood 3/28 build date)

A few minor bugs, but they are slowly working their way out.

If anyone wants a non-biased comparison of the ST and CC check out the August 2000 TruckTrend. They liked both, but the ST out performed the CC in people room, load carrying, braking with and with out a load, out accelerated with and with out a load, and had more "features". The ST also cost $5K more.

Where can I find the lowest price? Has anyone paid less than invoice?
  • rjkunklerjkunkle Member Posts: 74
The posts have been really slow this weekend.
Well I had a friend take some picturers with his digital camera and he is going to put them on a CD-RW. I had tried taking 35MM, and they look great, but the done scan worth a damn on my scanner. I will post links when available.

    I Love my ST.

St is going in the shop tomorrow for:
    1. Vehicle is tempormental about letting me shift out of Park. I have to remove the key and try again. Maybe is has something to do with the replacement of the PATS module and transponder unit they did when it was 2 weeks old. Went out into driveway and engine would not start.
    2. Rubbing gas door. Just started to rub paint off.
    3. Scratch on interior rear passenger door.
    4. Rear window rattles when in vent possition.
    5. Sound in dash: when I hit a bump it sounds like your keys swing and hit the dash.
    6. Steering "shimmy"
    7. Possible minor miss alignment of bed in relation to cab of truck. Be is laterally flush with the drivers side of the cab. The bed is 1/4" -1/2" shy of being fluch with the passenger side of the cab.

    NO SUNROOF LEAKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Harvest Gold with paint on the the bottom of the doors!!!!!!!!!!!!build date 4/18/00

The Truck Trend comparison of the ST & Nissan Frontier CC was generally very well done & certainly covered the issues, most of which in the ST's favor. The point I take exception to though was the price advantage issue, which while it exists, was not accurate with the models shown in the article.
Assuming the ST in the test had ALL options available, less the items that were clearly not shown:
    - The elusive Hard Tonneau Cover
    - Power Moonroof
    - 6 Disc CD
    - Leather
The MSRP of the ST tested would be $28K, not the listed $30K.
Since price was the key advantage that the CC had over the ST, I would have expected that to be accurate.
Overall, still a must read article.

I thought it was pretty wild to see the posts about the remote control ST available in the toy stores.

Well, I had to share what I found this morning while scanning the web for any news related to the Sport Trac.

A die-cast, with plastic parts, 1/18 scale Maisto Ford Explorer Sport Trac. :)

    http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/888191.htm

And guess what? It's on backorder... :)
  • beard1beard1 Member Posts: 15
a little info... i just put my soft cover on. in order to use the cage or full bed, you have to partially disassemble the cover frame. not just unsnap and roll up the cover. it appears to be a pain. i just hope it will increase my mlage cause i'm only getting an average of 14.8 now for combined driving.
  • beard1beard1 Member Posts: 15
btw, i called the dealer about the bad milage (14.8 mpg) and was told the engine is still tight (1200 miles) and that i would start getting better milage around 10,000 miles

Ooops. My mistake. That was a button on the first page that allowed you to "place" a back order, not a graphic indicating it was on back order.

Has anyone noticed a lack of paint under the doors of their RC model? ;)

Anyone have the Alarm upgrade? I do and I'm trying to figure out if it is normal for the Alarm to sound while using the key pad to enter the vehicle. I get 2 buttons into the code and the alarm goes off. When I finish the code the alarm quits and the door unlocks.

This could be normal and kind of makes anti theft sense but it is annoying.
