Im woundering if the sport trac is updated are thougth's who ordered them way back when will we have to pay a differance? I was at my dealership today and confered an ordered date of July 24th. Making sure I would be getting the high series concole and also the newer 6 disk cd player. All will be included in my truck I was asured. Only fear my salesman said there might be a slight price increace. Woundering if this is the case with others who have ordered thiers way back when? Coming from the cost sheet (www.kbb.com) from the the Explorer Sport (two door) the newer CD player (Pioneer) is invoiced at 433.00 and MSRP at 510.00. The high console comes with the comfort group on the Explorer Sport and it is 1271.00 at invoice and MSRP is 1495.00 your choice of leather or cloth. Any comments? :>)
I was told my island blue ordered in may was discontinued, however, reading the posts, I see where someone is expecting theirs which will be built and ordered after mine?? what information does anyone have to share?
In March I saw a ST with rear discs like the explorer and from what I have been able to find out is there is a supply problem and that Ford reserves the right to change the product at any time. This is a typical disclaimer. I hope that job#2 brings them back because I would rather have them due to stopping ability and ease of repair/maintenance.
I'm having a bit of a problem with the Ford Molded Mudflaps. I ordered a full set for front and rear from my dealer they arrived same time I picked up my new ST. The front flaps I installed with no problem, but (you knew there was a but coming) the rear flaps do not fit. I had the dealer order another set and double check the part # as well. They came in and dont fit either The package was clearly marked for the Explorer Sport Trac 2001 and had the correct part #.The dealer ordered them for the third time and again they dont fit. The dealer is looking in to it to see what the problem is I've yet to get an answer from him to date. Has any one else had this problem. I've read talk of people ordering them but has any one installed the rear yet or does any one have rear mudflaps currently installed?
I have never seen a ST with disc brakes, only the Sport. The brochure never mentioned rear disc brakes.
As for performance, the ST has an upgraded brake system with bigger front rotors. Also, the ST has a Bosch brake system, ABS, brake booster etc.
As for brake performance, read the TruckTrend and recent Motor Trend reviews of the ST. The ST braking performance is better than a lot of cars. Truck Trend showed how the brake performance was actually even better when the ST was loaded with heavy loads. The magazines reported 60-0 brake distances in the 120s to low 130s (feet). Impressive results for any vehicle let alone a truck.
It took 10 minutes to put all 4 mud flaps on. Unscrew 8 screws, screw in 8 screws, drill 4 holes in plastic, and push in 4 expandable plugs. That easy. The manufacturer did say they had a screw bagging problem. They sent me extra screws, even though the factory screws worked fine.
Register/login @ ownerconnection.com (must have VIN#); scroll to the bottom of the page and click on CONTACT US. I used the e-mail form and got a response back in a few hours. Don't honestly know if they will track specific VIN#'s or not, but they very well may do so. I've used this 3 times and even the dealer admitted I knew more about my vehicle status than did he.
Just installed mine this morning. Definitely a DIY item, but not as easy as it would seem. Although instructions say to remove tires, this wasn't necessary. I found it helpful to use a 90 degree ratcheting screwdriver to remove existing screws--very short shaft screwdriver would probably work too. Fronts went in no problem; I had to improvise a bit on the rears. Directions showed a screw up from the underside but no hardware provided. I used one screw that I had removed from each side to screw up from the bottom. Not sure this extra screw was even necessary. They look fine but Ford should have made them grey to match the trim.
All official Ford literature stated 4 wheel dics brakes with anti-lock, but remember the disclaimer! Anyway, I do believe that the ST will brake well and even better with the bed loaded. Although, I have a Ranger and the brakes suck, just like my Mustang GT's did, so it's good to hear the better numbers. I also hope that after the truck gets > 20K miles on the front rotors they don't warp as my other two Ford's did!!!!
Talked with Ed Molchany-Sport Trac Marketing Manager today and he said the only color they were deleting was the Mandarin Gold and replacing it with Silver.
I also asked about the difference in the radio options and he told that the new single cd players will also come with a cassette and the 6-CD Pioneer is the upgrade option but w/o cassette.
He told me that there was a cd stacker behind the dash and it moves up and down and there was no room for the cassette.
Also the deal with the Boson Acoustics or Pioneer upgrade option is.... they were deciding which to offer in the truck as an upgrade and they choose the Pioneer.
However I did fail to ask if they corrected the gas cap door gap problem, the steering wheel vibration turning at slow speeds, and the paint on the bottom of the doors.
I am gonna make a list and call him tomorrow.
I will check this site before I call and see if anybody has any questions they would like me to ask him.
My cell phone plan allows me to call all 50 states from my home area with no long distance charge.
And since I never use all the minutes anyway I might as well put them to work checking on the status of my sport trac. :-)
Thanks for the info on the splashguards.Mine are suppose to be in next week, along with cargo mat and bug shield. Can't wait to install them. Still waiting for a call on my cover.Sure hope it comes in soon.
I ordered by st on april 3, 2000, and I still do not have a truck. I was told they decided not to paint the mandrian gold anymore (just found out 2 weeks ago) and the reason for the delay was I ordered the premium sports package and they were short of those, so my truck did not get built. Does anyone know where I could find a mandarin gold, leather, anywhere in the usa. I would fly to where ever and drive it back to Texas.
Im not really wondering about the automatic trans costs. The truck being sold is with the option. I think it would only make sence that the standard trans truck will be less not the same price were paying now. Can't see $1000 more to the price.
As for the sound system update. I feel it will be worth it. I had a premium sound in my past Explorer. It was great sounding even with out the sub-woffer.
Im also getting an order date of 7/24/00 with delivery in early August. Well see.....
I would like the number to Ford Customer Service I don't remember seeing it on this web site yet.
Please ask Ed the following if you can: 1. When will quality issues be resolved? 2. When will tonneau really be avail? 3. When will X-plan be offered on the ST? 4. What shade is the silver paint(i.e. how dark)? 5. When will there be incentives offered on the ST? 6. V-8? 7. 4-Wheel discs?

I am wondering if anyone that already had a build date and so forth for August or so that think they may be switched to the upgraded system has seen a change in their status.
I still need to follow up with the dealer later today, but after some time on the phone with Ford Customer Service and the rep there calling the dealer, they seem to come to the conclusion that the order is on material hold for the stereo.
No one yet provided a release date, if known (the dealer materials originally stated 4Q2000, which I specifically questioned before including it in the order. )
I understand form a previous post that if i have an order # (not VIN), that I can get a status ford on a build date. If this is true, would someone please provide the number for cust service? I distressed that my car was ordered June 1 and i haven't heard anything yet. thanks
Thank you post#336&339. I tried to upgrade my cloth group up to the leather group. I did this two weeks ago and my build date is 8-7-00. Today the sales manager called me back and said Ford said I can't upgrade. I called the customer service # but the gal on the other end said I would have to talk to my sales manager. I can't believe with six weeks before the truck is going to be built ===that they can't change it. I'm going to try and E Mail the Ford owner connection as soon as they get back to me.
I called Ford customer service regarding the tonneau cover offer since I never got a letter in the mail. I was told to call the number given on the letter which was sent out. I called the number and talked to Brian as others did who posted before me and he said I was on the list of people eligible, so he could take my order. He told me to call back if I didn't get the offer letter within two weeks so I could get free installation at my dealership. While I had Ford customer service on the line, I also asked about the much talked about folding chairs, knife and catalog. (Folding chairs with the Ford emblem sell for around $100 on the Ford site by the way, so whoever was offering to give them away, I'll be glad to pay for the shipping!) I was told this was a dealership buyers incentive, not something Ford was sending out.
Took my Sporty in today for my first free oil change with 4700 miles on it and had my list of other problems, thanks to this web site. I had the gas door rub and the front doors with no paint on underside. The plastic cover on the rear passenger shoulder harness had also broken since purchase back in April. The service shop was great; changed my oil then told me to schedule an appointment after the seat belt part came in. The paint shop would fix the paint problem and the body shop will fix the rub. I hate the thought of having to drive the loaner, I've gotten spoiled driving the ST. Other problems I had posted previously include driver side seat belt clip broken and rear window motor broke, and had to be replaced.
I still love my Sporty and am so glad I got it before Ford stopped production of Mandarin Gold! We get lots of compliments on the color, and it's definitely an attention getter.
Post #312, I ordered a red 2wd S.T. with the standard rearend, the cloth comfort group, which I tried to upgrade to the leather package, moon roof, convenience group, cargo cage, and the upgraded 6 C.D.
I just saw an ad (Phoenix)on the Ford Sport Trac and the color is Mandarin Gold! I was told by Ford that the color was no longer being painted. What's up Ford? I want a mandarin gold ST and cannot buy it, but you continue to advertise it to the public. Can I purchase the one used in the ad? What gives?
I was at www.nada.com and selected the manual transmission and the following items were block out as being unavailable.
1) 4.10 AXLE RATIO (REQ: 44D Auto Trans) 2) 4.10 AXLE RATIO W/LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (REQ: 44D Auto Trans) 3) P255/70R16 ALL-TERRAIN SBR OWL TIRES (REQ: 44D Auto Trans) 4) COMFORT GROUP (REQ: 44D Auto Trans) 5) LEATHER COMFORT GROUP (REQ: 44D Auto Trans) 6) PREMIUM SPORT GROUP (REQ: 44D Auto Trans) 7) ETR AM/FM STEREO W/6-DISC IN-DASH CD PLAYER (REQ: 44D Auto Trans) 8) PWR MOONROOF (REQ: 44D Auto Trans)
I was wondering as to why all these options need to have the automatic transmission to make them functional.
I am not very mechanically inclined so I may be wrong about the Sport Group (4:10 Axle Ratio) but the rest of this stuff.
obr123---Those items don't require an automatic transmission to make them functional. Ford does not want to build a manual transmission with all of the different option packages because they are trying to keep production costs down. From the looks of your list it looks like the only available option package with the manual is the conveinence pkg. The manual transmission is probably being targeted to people who can only afford a very basic version.
By the way, a couple of months ago, someone posted information that there were big problems with the manual transmission and it was not going to be offered in the near future. Has anyone verified that the manual will be offered when they start buliding the next run in late July?
My build date draws nigh - July 17-24 after placing order June 30 from Pell City Ford - an hour's drive east of Bham, AL for $500 over invoice; white, 2WD, graphite cloth comfort group(hopefully with the high series console), sport group, convenience group, moonroof, cargo cage. Also hoping to get with standard radio, the new spec with cassette. Will happily post update when I take delivery in the next couple of weeks.
I would be very interested in knowing if there are any mandarin gold st's in Georgia. You may email me at mcltexomadet@texoma.net. Thanks for your help.
I talked to a Ford employee and he told me that Ford was cutting back on painting certain parts on the vehicles- Like under the doors and if you look in your engine bay of your ST, there is only one coat of your exterior colour. Anyway I love my Mandarin Gold 4x2 with graphite interior. I have put 4500 mi on this truck and love it. When do we start a club for us ST owners?
Does anyone know when Ford is speeding up production on the new Sport Tracs. One dealer told us in October and by then they will be able to negotiate a little more on the price. Is this true?
That dealer is trying to work you over. He's just trying to give you a believable reason so you'll pay more than you have to. Many of the people on this board have stated that they've been getting prices for Sport Tracs that are just a little bit above dealer invoice.
So if the dealer doesn't want to negotiate then shop around.
Can someone place the part number for the cargo cage? Would like to order one and my dealer cannot find a part number. Hope someone out there can help me. Thanks for all the comments on the Sport Trac's.
I stopped by the dealer on Saturday to check on the status of my ST (ordered in Feb) & found out/confirmed the following: 1) My cloth comfort group has been changed to the full console (as others have posted) 2) My interior color has been changed to Tan since Dark Grey is no longer available with Estate Green (seems a number of other color combo limitations now exist) 3) My sales person realizes that time spent waiting for my ST equates to less money in his pocket due to the price changes (small price adjustment in April & the Automatic Trans pricing change). The total dealer cost increase for my order is about $550. My cost of course is still the same.
Build date with Tonneau cover is next week. Can't Wait.....
Talked with Ed Molchanygas again and ask the following questions ya'll posted...
Q) cap door gap problem A) The plant has been made aware of the problem and it has been corrected.
Q) the steering wheel vibration turning at slow speeds A) The problem has been noted and is being worked at this time.
Q) the paint on the bottom of the doors. A) The plant has been made aware of the problem and it has been corrected.
Q) Also invite him to post on this website. It would be nice to have someone with the answers and it would help Ford relate with their customers. A) He indicated that he views most all chat rooms to get ideas of the customers problem(s), need(s), and wants.
Q) When will quality issues be resolved? A) Those not resolved are being worked
Q) When will X-plan be offered on the ST? A) It is being offered at this time and is for ALL Ford vehicles.
Q) When will there be incentives offered on the ST? A) Demand is to great at this time for that to be considered.
Q) V-8? A) Possible in the near future. He asked if I would prefer a super charged V6 or a V8. One of these being offered will GREATLY depend on the demand made by the customer. So start demanding everybody!!! :-)
Q) 4-Wheel discs? A) No. Front disc... Rear drum...
Q) will lumbar support be avail in the cloth seats A) No.
I found an easy way to order your dash cover. I did and was very pleased only wish I had my ST to put it into. The web site is (www.dashhugger.com) I got Sport Trac with 3 inch Ford oval embrodered in all for 55.00 included shipping. Looks great like something directly from Ford. I spoke with I guess the owner and he told me he personally went and checked the fit to see if the 2000 Explorer is the same dash as the 2001 ST and it is so its a perfect fit.
Thanks, a million. I think I should call Ed right away and put in my request for a V8. But, realistically Ford would need many thousands of requests for the change, even though, the Explorer has the option avail for some time now. It's nice to dream anyhow. Thanks, again obr123.

We shall see.... :-)
I will let ya'll know when I find out.
On the Island Blue.... they never said "no" or have yet to notify me of the fact they couldn't fill my order in that sense.
I will call and check with "Ford Cust Service" on the color deletions and what new colors have come out if any.
And I will try and find out about the tranny price difference if any for those of us that had them on order before they switched.
Try and get a lil jump on the dealer... :-)
BTW: Anybody know the deal with the alarms?
Can you upgrade those at the factory or do I hafta wait till it gets here then have the dealer do it?
Does anybody know the difference between I believe alarm 5 & 6 if you have the power locks and windows?
Are either worth up-grading to or just stay with the factory alarm?
Thxs

Anyone???
I think the wording of the message intended to say you can "login/register" @="at" ... with the www implied.
Did some research through my print outs for the prices before the swap and....
Invoice (Auto) - $20,414
Invoice (Manual) - $19,882
+ $931 (Auto Option)
=======
$20,813
So that is a $399 difference.
My point was I hope the dealer(s) don't try and stick us with the extra cost since some of us ordered our vehicles before the change over.
Also called Ed and left message to call me.
Have the questions in post #332 written in my tablet with some of my own when/if he calls.

I believe the information you got about the director's chairs being a dealer incentive was incorrect. The letter I received with the chairs was from:
Ford Custom Chair Headquarters
1501 Ha-Lo Drive
Troy, Mi 48084
and was signed by James O'Connor, President Ford Division.
The tin of cookies that I received look like it came from the dealer...
I was at the dealership last weekend and I seen a one w/Cloth Comfort Group(Tan), 2WD, Sport Group, Conv Group, Cargo Cage.
I was planning on going out to see what they have put on the lots since then this weekend.
I can post weather or not they sold it or got anymore in.
It's located in GA. about 1-2 hours south of Atlanta.
Let me know if anybody is interested in an update.
