I took delivery of my ST on May 4. I received a nice tin of cookies from my dealer. No gift pack has come my way.

Sounds like we are going to have almost identical trucks. Mine is 4x2, white/graphite, etc. Build date was 6/19, picked it up from the dealer on 6/23. Two weeks earlier than I was told so miracles can happen! (I'm from St. Louis, so that's close to Louisville. Maybe that helped.)

As far as the console, I ordered the cloth group and was hoping for the high-series console. But received the standard one. My dealer confirmed that Ford was changing to the other console but that it would probably be after the plant shutdown (July timeframe?).

But it doesn't matter. I love my truck! The CD-6 stereo is awesome. Riding with the roof open and the rear window down is almost as good as my convertible! Hope you're as happy with yours!

I ordered my truck around March 13th and FINALLY got it today! Red/ tan cloth comfort, convenience, sport group, sunroof, 6 c.d. changer. I waited forever for it, but it was definitely worth the wait. This thing is gorgeous and drives great too. Ford hit a home run with this one. I love the 6 cd changer, and the red color is beautiful. The vehicle itself feels very solid unlike my old Ford Explorer and the cloth seats (with comfort group) are remarkably comfortable. I do have the shimmy which really isn't that big of a deal. Also have the gas cap rub, but mine isn't too bad. We'll see with the sunroof. I LOVE this vehicle. It is quite luxurious on the inside and out. It was worth the wait. Hope to get that letter on the tonneau cover. That sounds like a good deal. Hope everyone is enjoying theirs!

I am still looking to find a cab high topper. I think that a fiberglass cab high with tinted glass would look great!!!! If anyone finds a web site that offers one let us all know.

We love our ST, have had it almost a month.
In the future anyone that lets us know their MPG, please also tell us if you have the 4.10 gears or the 3.73 and if you are 4x4 or 4x2. Thanks

Rjkunkle, The reason I need the name and Ph# is in the above title. Secondly, I was wondering if the new sound systems that Ford is supposed to be putting in the ST are going to be avail. with a 6-disc CD.
  • tae121tae121 Member Posts: 20
Just calculated my MPG. With 2,000 miles, 4x4, no limited slip I'm getting 19.13 MPG. This includes both city and highway driving, with the tailgate up and no cover. I have a bad feeling that the hard tonneau cover will be on a major backorder in a couple weeks, just like my cargo cage that I'm still waiting for, but both accessories will be well worth the wait. Is there anyone out there who does not have the "shimmy" problem? I have yet to notice one on my ST...keeping my fingers crossed!
  • rschfamilyrschfamily Member Posts: 19
Hey ... I completely agree with you. Smoked/tinted glass and something with a secure hatch would be ideal. Only problem potentially would be use of rear window. Both the flat and cab type covers have pros/cons but just think that the cab one would be ever so more versatile.
Please let me know if you find anything out there.

The fiberglass covers do not require removing the rails.

Ohhh, poor Ed. Posting his phone number wasn't a very nice thing to do to him. Now he's gonna get phone calls from every nut who doesn't bother to read their owners manual and hasn't gotten their $1.50 pocket knife from the Outfitters division yet. :-(

I need everyone's help. I am looking for the Spare Tire Lock for my Sport Trac that was mentioned on Sunday, April 30 (7:12pm) by Brand42. It was Number 2 of Topic #1847. His exact words were: "I bought the lock for $50 which consists of a reinforced steel bar with a brass keyhole to event rust. Don't settle for anything less!! This should be available at your Ford dealer".
My dealer is unable to find it. Can anyone help with locating this?
  • mrross1mrross1 Member Posts: 7
I checked the tire pressure last night as I received the ST 6-19 and found 36-38 lbs in each tire.I have 16" tires.
I lowered the pressure to 30lbs in front and 33 for rear as this is what the certificate on the door said to use.
I know this could cause less tire wear but I can tell you it greatly improved the ride and the shimmy is almost gone, well at least it not near as bad as it was before so I'll take less miles until Ford can fix the problem.Hope this will also help you!

SPARE TIRE LOCK...www.jcwhitney.com has a good one for 19.95 plus shipping...part no. 55RE5655P...Got one on my 98 F-150 and my beloved Sport-Trac..."It securely locks any size wheel directly to the winch mechanism that lowers your spare". Hope this helps...

Well, I do. Maybe for some it does "shimmy" but to me that would indicate something out of round, or out of balance or even RUBBING! So its my contention that description is a bit harsh... since I think I have the same symptom. Let me describe it:

Once in a while (not always) turning the steering wheel sharply at IDLE will exhibit a "pulsing" feeling in the steering wheel itself, like the power-steering is bogging down slightly - perhaps due to a very slow idle. However, once you give it a bit of gas this smooths right out perfectly. Then if you try to make it do the same thing again, it usually won't.

Maybe my observation is different, but my ST rides rock freakin solid at all speeds.

Also, figured I'd post current MPG (at less than 500 miles) has been 14 on primarily city driving my 4x2 w/4.10 L/S axle - hopefully that will improve. I guess I could always take it a little easier, but that engine does have a nice kick!

I've had my lock on order for a couple of weeks now. I just checked Tuesday and they said they just came off backorder and should be here soon. My dealer had no problem looking up the part number and ordering it. If I come across my sales slip or when I pick it up I'll post the part number.
  • fordsporttracfordsporttrac Member Posts: 300
Hate is a bad word but I agree with you. Its been misleading everyone into thinking its a driving problem when its not. Maybe it will help if we describe it as a Power Steering Pulse from now on.

Hey, I've been trying to register @ www.ownerconnection.com for 2 days now and it gets to the 3rd page where you pick a login name and password, then when I try to submit that it keeps coming up "Page Unavailable Try again in a few minutes" with a big Ford graphic page...

Does this mean there are no more folding outfitter chairs and pocket knives??? I spent like $25k on this thing - I want my free chairs
    I WANT MY FREE CHAIRS!!!!!!
  • fordsporttracfordsporttrac Member Posts: 300
Jezz I hope your kidding lrwizard, If not you can have mine. Its 2 $8 chairs and a $1.50 knife. :-)

But seriously, If your using Netscape try Internet Explorer. If your using IE try Netscape.
  • mrross1mrross1 Member Posts: 7
Your right it is a no speed power steering problem. What I was saying is after I lowered the tire pressure this problem was not as noticeable. It is still there but if you didn't know it,you more than likely would not know there was a problem.
  • tomboy1tomboy1 Member Posts: 6
I appreciate you both giving me the heads-up on the spare lock. Hey fordsporttrac, if I can get your number off of your ticket that would be helpful, I had the extra $50 financed in and they might be more cooperative if they deal with their parts department, if not, I'm sure they will order from J.C. Whitney.

After ordering in March, I finally got mine last week and I have to agree with everyone - I LOVE IT. I traded in a Ford Probe, standard tranny, which I loved, but it was impractical for my lifestyle (it was originally my daughter's car) I've never owned an automatic and it sure is taking some getting used to and the gas mileage is 4 times greater! But, I still love it. I've had it one week, put 700+ miles on it and had to wash it out twice. Worth waiting for!

Just took our ST in today to have service look at the radio (it stopped working although the 6 in dash cd player works fine. Sat in service dept waiting area for 2 hours waiting for them to tell me that they have to order a new radio (should take about 7 days). I doubt it will ONLY take that long. Anyway, got our first big rainfall in months (we're in a drought here in SC) on my way home from the dealer and guess what? Yup, I checked the headliner and behind the driver's side the sunroof is leaking. What a surprise (NOT!). This is so unlike a Ford product, yet really not a surprise since they have changed vendors/suppliers and many other ST owners are experiencing the same. I also checked out the cover for the gas tank and you guessed it...I see what everyone else has been "talking about". With time the paint will rub off from the cover hitting the fendor. So, when the radio comes in, we will leave our ST with the dealer for them to fix ALL the problems. At least these problems are happening now BEFORE the warranty runs out.

BUT, even with all of this...we still love our ST.

Can someone tell me what the owner's manual of the ST recommends as the minimum octane level gasoline to use? Thanks.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
The part number of the spare tire lock from the Ford Outfitter's catalog is, 1A380.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
The owner's manual says, "Your vehicle is designed to use 'Regular' unleaded gasoline with an (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87. "

Had mine in to the service dept. for the second time in 800 miles. Had them check the pulsing and was told it would disappear with more mileage on the truck. The first time they bled the power steering line of air and said the rest would disappear. It got worse so I had them check it again. Is there anyone with 5000 miles or more on their ST that doesn't pulse anymore (shimmy) at low speed turns? Thanks AL
  • mkazarian1mkazarian1 Member Posts: 17
How do I get a copy of the Ford Outfitters Catalogue. Thanks.I would like to buy a spare tire lock.

Well, i'm new posting, but have been lurking for quite sometime, and might I say, you all are WONDERFUL i've learned so much from you all, regarding my sport trac, great tips and hints, bought my white 4x4 totally loaded except for leather and moonroof,.. on May 2nd 2000, and now have approx. 5200 miles on it, and YES, it STILL pulses,..... i just haven't had time to get it into service yet to check it out,... i live in my car,.. i mean, i drive it about 100-200 miles a day in it with my job,. thank goodness i only work a few days a week,... lol
just wanted to respond to your post asking if anyone was over the 5000 mark yet, and what the pulsing was doing at this stage,....
    Dove,..
  • fordnutfordnut Member Posts: 80
The only reason I would want the Ph# is that I need to have some question answered on options
available on the ST before I order one in the next mth. or two. Ford dealers and their #800 number customer service dept. are inept at answering any
questions. I know more about Ford's vehicles than they do, -- so do most posters on the board!!!
  • dep7dep7 Member Posts: 12
I downloaded the copy of the letter(from the president of the ford division) that dolphin66 posted and sent it to the dealership and ask them to check into it for me. The salesmen called back and said that is only good to people that recieved there truck before june 5th. This does not make me very happy since I also wanted to order my ST with a tonneau but had to delete it so that they would build the truck. The salesmen is going to send the letter to one of his contacts and see what we can do....I will keep you posted as to what I hear.......
  • tractiontraction Member Posts: 141
My ST has about 1200 miles and the power steering shudder/pulse (do not call it shimmy) is definitely better than when new, but is not completely gone. When I first got the ST it did it almost all of the time with low speed turning maneuvers, now it does it only once and a while. Will monitor it and take it in the dealer at my first oil change.
  • fordsporttracfordsporttrac Member Posts: 300
Sure thats fine for you but the number was posted on a public board. So now not only you know his number but so does a million other people. How many of those people could be bozos.

You should have transferred the phone number privately. The address is a different story, but not the phone number.
  • greenwadegreenwade Member Posts: 24
I don't know about the rest of you that have been waiting but I'm going nuts. It's been since February 19 and I have a build date of July 24-31. I ordered Estate Green, tan leather, fully loaded including moon roof. It only takes them approximately 45 min. to build one truck. I canceled the cover in early May but hope to get a letter from Ford.

    My patients is running out.
  • dolphins66dolphins66 Member Posts: 78
    Greenwade:
There is an estate green with tan leather interior at our dealer but it may be sold. I believe it is loaded.
    Fordnut:

I agree with you about giving out that phone number. Not really fair play. I think it's one thing to give the address but now everyone is going to be calling this guy. Bad judgement. Hmmm...now I'm wondering if it was such a great idea to post the letter that we received from Ford for the tonneau cover. Ah well, I did leave out the phone number.

Dep7: I hope the information your salesman gave you is not accurate. I got my ST on June 8 and will be pissed if I miss out on this deal because I received it 3 days later than the cut off date!
  • lrwizardlrwizard Member Posts: 9
Yeah, I took delivery on the 9th of June... crapola, man! If the June 5 date is for real then I missed by 4 days. Why not base it on the order date tracked to the VIN#? Would be much more fair considering there are people that ordered in FEB and still have no ST even today. Most of the wait time seems tied to the priority# of the ordering dealer and/or the options ordered (which may have included the tonneau cover and subsequently delayed the order- how ironic!)

Of course I'm not totally certain I'd really take advantage of the deal anyway but I just hate being left out of things, especially by a few days.

Oh, and I was actually being a little sarcastic about the chairs/knife offer. But I mean hey, who doesn't like freebies?
  • fordnutfordnut Member Posts: 80
Well, all I can say is now maybe they can work on
their customer service a bit because I and many others do not need to buy the ST --even though it is cool! I took me 4 mths. and several calls to CS and emails just to get a brochure on the ST and F150 Supercrew --not to mention, they sent me brochures on the WRONG vehicles which means they don't even know what they are selling! It took Chrysler one email and they sent me the brochure I requested. Not too tough for them!!!
  • fordsporttracfordsporttrac Member Posts: 300
Its not the people with legit concerns that I worry about its the crazys who will call Ed every time the wind shield washer is empty or the tires need air.
  • bdenneybdenney Member Posts: 6
Had there not been such a fuss made over this phone number being given out, people probably wouldn't have known about it. I sure didn't, but now I, and everyone else in here does too.

I find it interesting that Ford would change the soft pack console to the high series with the cloth group after it being touted as a selling point. My ST is supposedly being built this week and I am looking for info on how to find out (other than waiting to see) which console it will have. Thanks in advance.
  • melvin7melvin7 Member Posts: 32
I ordered leather seats, but it seems like most people ordered cloth. Is there any downside to leather that I don't know about. I'm not going to haul dogs or anything work related, I hope.Let me know.
    Thank You, Mel

Pardon my francais, but the leather is the sh**! It is so nice, so supple, the seats are just awesome. They are thicker and more solid than the standard cloth.

My only beef is that when you close the door, the electric controls and the lumbar crank are like 1 inch from the interior door panel making any adjustment with the door closed, a bit tight.

To compare the leather with that of our Jeep Cherokee, the ST's are much nicer and more comfortable - on par with some of the best Mercedes seats IMHO. Also, they are identical to my friend's Eddie Bauer Explorer (except that the ST passenger seat is not power).

I can't believe that I almost didn't order the leather! It was just about the cost and the absence of the softpack center console -while a nice idea, is not as desirable to me as the full console with more solid cupholders, rear a/c vents, and 2ndary stereo controls. Plus you get the nifty compass/temp display and GDO holder overhead... very nice too by the way.

Not getting the softpack, and the additional cost would be the only minuses (to some people) that I can think of, but for me the extra cost is reasonable for all that you get.

    Your ST looks great!

    What's the website for A.R.E. ?
It was a big dilema for me when I ordered mine on deiciding between the color-matched (which shows the black strip around) or the standard black. I went with the color-matched top.

    shelltake8---

Ford has been charging the same price for the cloth comfort package in both the 2 dr, 2001 Explorer Sport and in the Sport Trac.

But the Sport receives the upgraded console with the cloth comfort pkg, while up untill now the Sport Trac's cloth pkg got no console upgrade. I think that was quite a rip off.

It's good to see that Ford is trying to give Sport Trac buyers better value.

I'm confused--what is the difference between the high and low console? They all come with a floor console and either of the leather or cloth group comes with a overhead console. Thanks,Merl
  • bjohn1225bjohn1225 Member Posts: 16
Thankfully, the June 5 cutoff date for getting the tonneau cover letter was incorrect. I received my ST on 6/8 and was concerned I would not be eligible for the $590 price. Fortunately about 2 hrs. after my previous post, I received my letter (and ordered it immediately). The person I spoke to estimated 4-6 weeks for my dealer to receive it.

In regards to the leather seats - Get them. They are the most comfortable leather seats I have ever sat on and look great. When I ordered, I believe the dealer invoice price of the leather comfort group was only about $400 more than than of the cloth comfort group. The decision was a no brainer for me since I think the cloth seats look awful.
