I too have a small garage that barely fits a Silverado. I just use a 1' long 2"x4" block of wood glued to the garage floor with come silicone caulking. I've strategicly placed the wood so when my front tire touches the block of wood, I'm in far enough to get the garage door closed, but yet still have enough room to get around the front to the truck. Total cost....about 35 cents.
ok, i have a brick that sometimes moves when i kick it when the truck is not in the garage. total cost, = free. i took it from the house being built across the street from me, also got one for my wifes car. stil total cost free. works great unless you kick it. might try the glue. pat = .01cents worth
while the brick is free it hurts only when you kick it. securing the 2x4 or brick will prevent it from moving but will hurt more when you kick it and fall down. tennis ball is great unless someone pulls on it and breaks it or runs into while on roller skates and falls down breaking their neck and sending you into bankruptcy with a $3 million dollar lawsuit. The way I see it the laser is the best until you look into and are blinded for life...my $.02
Ryan - come on- why do you pick Tims idea as best - you looking for a new Dad since Blue is gone for the most part and hasn't come to visit your new topic at all? or you just trying to make sure he continues to give you access to his forum? Got a little competition going?
Actually - I agree that backing into most any parking spot is easier in a truck. I don't do it as much in the new truck as I did in the old '96. Mainly because with the new trucks the turning radius is reduced some making it easier to turn into parking places. (OK with that last sentence at least this is an official truck post).
that I beam you mentioned in post #139...is it from an old ford truck? Ford with their twin I beam suspension...what a joke. Just like this topic.....LOL
Dean
BTW, ryan, just helping to keep this topic alive and well by talking about Ford trucks.
My garage is like a barn kinda....30x40...10 foor walls downstairs...8 foot walls upstairs...and another 8 foor or so shaped like a triangle above that. The I-beam supports the upper floor.
I mentioned it cuz it has 2 poles that hold the beam..and one night after "celebrating"..I DID hit the pole backing in!
Before I glued my 2x4 to the garage floor I too had it setting on the floor in just the right spot. However, my 3 year old son started moving the 2x4 on me (either on purpose or accidentally). This became a real pain. When I would come home I wold have to get out of the truck, reposition the 2x4, then get back into the truck and drive into the garage. My 35 cents was the cost of the glue (actually silicone caulking - this way I can still remove the 2x4 when I get a new and different truck), the 2x4 was free.
The position of the garage, driveway, wife's car, and the closeness of garage walls makes it more convenient to drive forward into the garage rather than back into it. Backing out is easier also due to the above mentioned obstacles.
and enjoying the repartee for some time now. I have a new Ford F-150 pickup (mentioned to pass muster as a "pickup-related" post). However, I just had to post to thank all for the occasionally useful information on top of the entertainment and mostly because I just learned what "wold" means. Thanks, dch0300! You made my day (OK, so I have a low threshold for day making! So?!?).
I found you all over in "Ordering a New Truck" giving each other he....., er, heck, and getting scribbled (unwillingly). Found the exchange enjoyable even though it wasn't a Ford you all were purportedly and occasionally helping truckchic decide to or not to order (I was still shopping at the time and might have ordered, but took the leftover 1999 conversion F-150 for a good price instead). So, when your personal information-providing topic popped up, I was helpless to resist peeking (repeatedly).
Glad I made your day. When I mistyped "would" I expected the Spellcheck to catch it. To my surprise "wold" was an actual word.
Anyway, local Chevrolet still can't order my new 2001 Silverado LS ext-cab Z71 because of the two-tone paint option. So believe it or not, I actually took a look at the Ford ext-cab and quad cab trucks today.
I haven't taken anymore interest in the Ford trucks yet, but I was wondering if Ford still makes trucks in two-tone colors? Looking for a white upper and pewter lower.
Hmmmmm, wonder if GM could build my Silverado, but take it over to the Ford truck factory to get it painted two-tone.
I, too, watched the advice to TruckChick. So what happened? Did she ever buy a truck? That topic has pretty much died. Did she pick it up in another topic?
Yep, Ford does the two-tone thing (press the "Build and Price" button at http://www.fordvehicles.com/vehiclehome.asp?vid=9). If you want a nice vacation from the mist of Seattle, there are several of the 1999 conversion F-150's in White with a silver or pewter-like lower color band of those I mentioned at that Lewisville, Texas, dealer. They have, I think, both the flareside (step side to other brands) and styleside (not step side tob) still sitting there. Very nice looking. You could most likely snag one for $21,500 or less. Then you could enjoy testing the air conditioning as you drive back home through Texas heat and on through mountain majesty. Just an idea....
If you ordered one, it will be a 2001. I think you probably would have to order, since I haven't seen many two-tones on the lots (other than the loaded conversions, that is). Maybe the Northwest is more appearance oriented though and would have some in stock?
have you considered ordering an all white 2001 and getting the dealer to cut you a break and/or have it after market two-toned? just an idea depending on how desperate you are. you must be desperate if you're looking at fords...
The conversion Ford's in Lewisville (done at Texas Stagecoach in Houston) have a nicer two tone than Ford's factory job because they are just the simple second color. Ford goes one step further (and worse!) by adding a cheesy, stick-on pin-stripe that they stop short of every break in the metal (door gaps and seams). Worse, is the cheesy pin-stripe tape has a matching background to the two-tone and is not lined up with the edge of the two-tone paint.
At this point I'm just looking at the Ford trucks, but I still want a 2001 Silverado LS ext-cab Z71 yet. I've been waiting since summer of 1998 to get a Silverado (waited 2 years for GM to try to get all the bugs worked out), and now I'm ready to buy.
The dealer I'm currently working with is checking with the paint shop that they use to see what it would cost to paint the lower half of a Silverado. I'd go with all white, but too many out there already (city trucks, Boeing facilities trucks, etc). With the lower half pewter, along with Westin CPS step bars, Lund Interceptor, and Eagle Alloy wheels (http://salesco.com/wheels/eagle/series_118.htm), kinda gives me a little uniqueness. And with all the rain in the Seattle area, gotta have white on the upper half.
If you've been waiting that long then a month or so more isn't bad. You've got to realize that the factories have only been building for a few weeks. They don't build every kind of truck every week. They will probably be scheduling 2 tones before long and your order will get picked up. Hold out just a little longer if you really want it. The day I ordered back in February the solid Black was on hold as well, it got picked up two days later.
Don't know if this will show up as a second post or not; first one didn't seem to go through.
David, mine is a white and pewter 2500 LT. Yes, a two-tone 2500 LT. Roy Robinson bought some trucks out of a dealership in Canada, where, for some reason, GM was making it easier to get two-tone. I was at Blade Chev in Mt. Vernon on Saturday ordering my camper and saw an Indigo Blue and Storm Gray 2500 LS on the lot; that looked really good too.
If you do order, you should have no problems with Everett Chev, they seemd like really good, "straigh-shooting" guys. I also liked Dwayne Lane in Arlington and Gilchrist in Tacoma. I bought from Roy Robinson mainly because they had what I was looking for on the lot. STAY AWAY from Lee Johnson in Kirkland; when you ask the salesman what's the best deal he can do and he pulls the old "how much do you want to spend" gig, you know you're at an "old school, gonna-try-and-stick-it-to-ya" dealership that doesn't realize the rules for auto salesmanship have changed.
I've been drinking for about three hours and I am kind of sensive, so please take this post as you will. If one more person refers to a Chevy Silverado with an off road option package as a "Z71", me and a high power rifle with have a delicate intersection on a tall building. My nephew showed up the other day with a 97 Silverado with the Z71 off road suspension package. It was a new truck to him. He says, "Hey Uncle, look at my new Z71." I [non-permissible content removed] slapped him there on the drive way. It is not a freakin' "Z71", it is a Chevy Silverado with an off road suspension package.
Tonight was last game of our summer co-ed softball league season. We lost a heartbreaker 8-7, and had some beers with the other team. And there's a cutie on the other team...gosh she was cute...and friendly, and young, and blonde, and pretty, and when I left, she called out to me...."where you going?"
Oh my,...how my life sucks.
Ryan, this is why you stay single and unattached. I can't stop thinking what if....my heart aches. I need to get over this. Tomorrow I will, I hope. This has happened before, but I'm too devoted I guess. I should just think about my wife some more...she's cute and young and pretty too. Life's too short!
That sucks. Sorry to hear about that one. Your a very good man. Most would have jumped at that chance but you didnt good choice i applaud you.
Good advice about the stay single thing but i have been unattached to long. My plan was to save up get the truck then look for a girl. And guess what happened everything went exactly to plan. Except the boat And no the truck didnt attract her she didnt even know about it at first.
I'm the other Tim, but I agree obyone, booze and hormones will do it every time. And their is always that "what if?" thought making you look over at what appears to be greener grass. But, if you fall for the temptation and dump your commitments, then you find out that the grass over the fence still needs tending (water, fertilizer, mowing, etc.). The realities just don't live up to the media hype. That sweet, young, blonde thing will remember that you were unfaithful to your former wife and wonder. Or you will remember that she flirted with you and wonder what she's doing with others. OK, OK, you know the story. The "thrill" won't keep you warm at night. Let your obvious commitment win and you won't be sorry....
erikf2, Thanks for the info regarding the local Chevrolet dealers. I'll probably stick with Everett Chevrolet. They will try my order again this next Tuesday. I hope GM starts making the two-tone Silverados soon, otherwise it might end up being a bad business decision. According to the dealer, they haven't made one in 4 weeks.
dinotwo, I do believe that a Silverado with the off road suspension package has decals on the rear fenders stating "Z71 Off Road". If it is called out on the side of the truck as a Z71, then why can't we call it a Z71?
Our ole friend CW in topic #2799 has taken the cake.
Check my response (#640) before is gets scratched.
He better not start something now. I've been holding back on being mean to that guy for 6 months now. I'm loaded for bear if he wants to start a war though.
posted in the Yukon topic. Cowards? I rather think that we took the indirect, subtle, approach...LOL. Anyway if you got the time, my post number is #642.
...suppose my Z/28 was just another Camaro. As was stated earlier, it's the heritage!
To get really technical, the 97 is a K1500 with both a Silverado trim package and Z/71 off road package. Chevy did not officially call their trucks Silverado's untill 1999.
Wait a minute, my 1989 Chevrolet truck is a Silverado, says so right behind the side windows. However, I don't think it's a LS or LT, I believe it's just a C1500. Not sure where I'm going with this, but maybe our CEO (Ryan) can tell us. How we doing boss? 177 posts and still going strong.....now GM where is my new two-tone truck!
on running boards for a y2k Sierra z71 sle 4dr.I am looking for a set of boards that don't require drilling the frame (or body) and I can only find nerf bars. Does anyone make 'em? I really like the look of the stock ford boards. Thanks
for those of you who like the black running boards that come on the ford expedition (black with a light on either end) my neighbor has them. unfortunately, he's been on vacation for a bit. he just got back and i asked him to check his receipt to see what brand/part # etc he's got. also, i looked under his truck while he was gone. there are about four brackets that support each running board. i didn't crawl under his truck (only 2wd with 255's on it...too low!) but i'd put money on the fact that they require you to drill into the frame. for more info, email me at kwerking@aol.com and i'll let you know the details when i get 'em. shouldn't be but a day or two
hey ryan, so far your 2109 forum has been a success, now it's time to think about a Z-71 forum for all the 4wd. guys. should be interesting too. Z-71 is all one needs to hear to know we're talkin' about 4wds. right. thank the good man above for giving us the title "Z-71". sounds alot better than just plain 'ol 4wd. Z-71 Z-71

2x4 glued to the garage floor - 35 cents
Tennis ball hanging from the ceiling - 5 dollars
Electronic Laser beam device - 20 dollars
None of the above and driving through the garage wall into the living room - Priceless.
Thank you Mastercard.
pat = .01cents worth
if you hit the bench or come in on an angle..and hit the pole for the I-beam......you have gone too farr
LOL

haha j/k
My method is pull up to the garage stop put truck in park turn off the truck then open the garage then go into the house.
Actually with my old S-10 i used to pull up right next to our garage cabinets and i knew i was in far enough.
Tims idea is by far the best though
