The carpet on the Bedrug is waterproof, and it is bonded to some sort of closed-cell foam stuff that does not let water through. I have a shell on mine so I'm not concerned with water, but when the shell was off for a month + I ran it through the car wash, hosed it down, and had some rain ... never noticed any problem with water absorption or mildew.
The rep says that it stands up to every chemical he has tried on it., and as I recall, it is guaranteed for life.
What tim you lost me there. Thats a silverado SS the concept truck they better make it. I have a lightning story to tell you but ill do it tomorrow i am beat just got back fro the faith hill tim mcgraw concert
The trucks were kinda overshadowed by the big Vette display though. It was a cruise-in though, and I'm a BIG fan of those as well. Got to drive one of the new Z06's through the mountain passes in california and it was the biggest thrill of my life!! It is an AWESOME car!!!
awesome things...those 2 short version hot rodded garbage trucks were too cool as well...as were all the Cobras north of the GM display. Did you see the huge 63 Corvette on the building?
Didn't see the gargage trucks you were referring too. Saw the all the Cobras. Never seen so many of those in one place at the same time. Also saw the huge Vette banner. Kinda hard not too!!
I saw a guy trying to sell a Hurst Olds like the one you posted pictures of. Kinda wonderered if it was yours Tim, but I didn't remember you mentioning trying to get rid of it. Being a "younger" guy I didn't know what you meant when you mentioned the lightning rods in one of your pictures, but knew it had something to do with the big handles next to the shifter. He had a framed ad kinda describing how they worked. I assume that you can pull the #1 down to get 1st gear and the #2 to get second. Does the main shifter just stay in D the whole time? And do you have to push #1 up before pulling #2 down? Just curious. Never seen anything like that before.
Lightning rods for this car have been customized to work for an Auto tranny. Several race cars have them so you don't miss a gear. They are usually for Manuals. The main stays in drive..the others go back. when you want to shift from 1st to 2nd..push the right one up...2-3..middle one. main has to stay in drive. You could just pull back middle and let 1-2 be automatic as well...and you control 2-3. If you shift early, it still stays in 1st until the tranny tells it to shift...all it does it lock out the shift...after all..it is an automatic tranny. I like the way it shifts by itself better anyway. It always gets second at any speed the way it's programmed. Hot Rod Mag suggested to leave it in drive as well.....they said "It's a great party trick..if the party happens to be on the inside of the car"....they were right. it does grab attention though...
I seen an 84 for sale..(Silver with black bottom)..but no 83 like mine (black with silver bottom). I did see a couple of each though...
I had my eyes on that 59 Cadillac Limo for sale...talk about a tank!
How many hrs you guys have on your trucks. Mine has 5100 mls and almost 200 hrs. SOund about right?
Also my salesman built the same truck as mine on his order computer for the hell of it to see if there was a price difference well it was close to $700 more. Now the LS with bucket seats has power seats std with them and you can get the manual. Glad i got mine when i did i wouldnt have been able to bought all the accesories.
My luggage never made it to NYC, lost by American Airlines. They found it, finally in Osaka Japan, and it showed up 5 days later in Helsinki Finland.
No pickup trucks in Northern Europe. Gas about $4.40/gal. Pick-pockets, beggars and gypsies in Russia and Estonia. The young people in Russia are fine, but among the old people many are communists, some quite resentful, especially towards Americans. The Russian ballet was fabulous. We were watched everywhere we went. Visited the Hermitage, a Russian museum in St. Petersburg, established by Catherine II, and former winter home of Peter the Great. In Estonia, they are still enjoying their independence from Soviets in 1991, although their future is uncertain. The young people are a joy. Capitalism is trying to take root. I hope it makes it.
Now sailing to Copenhagen Denmark.
Our ship, the Renaissance R6 has internet access, but costs $1 a minute, so I'm not reading postings yet.
Regards to all my truck internet pals. See you Sept 5.
Today after going to breakfast while going down 80/94 (major highway) i noticed 3 semis full of silverados. All half tons. I got a good look cause traffic was pretty much stopped both ways. I would have to say half of them were all two tones. Green/silver, black/grey, blue/silver, grey/silver, my fav color carmine/grey. So i guess they still have made some and some are circulating out there still. I didnt see any white/silver though. Maybe you will get lucky though. The new green is a very nice color i like it. I didnt see the new orange none on those trucks. I did see a blue Z71 w/ black flares guess i started a trend or something.
00 Z71 Ext 1500 LT,5K miles, put the edelbrocks and velvet rides on saturday, seems to have made a big difference, seems a lot more stable now and took all the jitterness out of it.Now if the door lock and lumbar gremlins would just go away and I could get some decent gas mileage. Also had oil changed went with 10/30 castrol synthetic and PF59,was going to go with M1 but they were out of 10/30 and I've used castrol for years.
Purchased a $1.49 double sided, plain headed key at Home Depot tonight. Opened door, started engine and drove home with no problem. This will be my spare key hidden under the truck in a magnetic holder. This crap about $35.00 keys from the dealer is just that. CRAP.
PassLock simply requires that a key is used in the ignition circuit period. If the correct key is not used, then the fuel is shut off. (The correct key is one cut according to the pattern in the steering column ignition key cylinder). As opposed to hot wiring, removing key cylinder, etc. Dustyone
I have feathering on the outside of my front Firestones Wilderness ATXs (6200 miles) which can be felt as you run you hand from the front of the tire to the rear.
My question is: should I simply swap tires front to rear or criss cross them ("X" type pattern)?
Also, what is the proper torque setting for the lug nuts? Thanks
got my spares made at walmart. they work fine. never would have thought to ask my dealership. especially since they're over 500 miles away!
new dealership in town has taken a liking to me though. since i've had my and my wife's truck there for service (bought wife's truck there) they send those oh-so-helpful reminders in the mail that, "Our records indicate that your 2000 chevy silverado/1999 gmc jimmy is now ready for it's xx,xxx mile service. Please call our service desk at your earliest convenience..."
Tire rotation - X the fronts to the back. Bring the backs straight forware
1999 Silverado in shop again for 3rd time this morning. Had to add a quart of diff fluid to rear last weekend.
Was hopeing to leave on vacation for 2 weeks in high country of Colorado (Ouray, Crested Butte, and Summit County) tomorrow. Figured maybe just another pinion seal, maybe 3rd time is the charm.
Yawl have a great two weeks, I plan on running the tar outta my sorta street legal 2000 Honda XR650R throughout the ghost towns of the San Juans and Collegiate Peaks and Arapahoe Ntl Forest....... plus work in a little fly fishing, dog hiking, and road bicycling....
on Tim's site I read some posts on lowering a Silverado (mild). I have had a Hotchkis 2" front/4" rear kit sitting in my garage since February for my'01 x-cab, but like you, I've been dealing with the rack & pinion issues. A person at Hotchkis made mention that after installing their kit, the truck should actually ride better, similar to adding velvet ride shackles. The kit consists of new front coil springs and new rear leafs. Do you personally know of anyone who has lowered their truck-anything positive or negative notes?
Ryan, I'll have to check with my dealer today to see if my order has gone thru for that 2001 Silverado LS 1500, ext-cab, Z-71, etc, with white/pewter. Maybe it is a west coast thing where we can't get a two-tone built until Nov. but the rest of the country can order one now.
obyone, markbuck, and dch0300 for the rotation and torque info. I had two friends, both in the mechanics field, who were arguing over the correct method.
Nope same here in indiana. My salesman cant get any 2001 two tones yet. I am just saying i have seen some they must be shipping what they have made already and thats it for them for awhile
I know tires will not fix the vibration, but the dealer wants to start with new tires.
The clicking or tapping is very loud during cold starts and last for maybe 30 seconds or so... then it almost goes away, but you can still hear it when you're beside a building or under a carport.
The dealer had no comment about the oil usage.
I left the truck with the dealer, hopefully I will hear from the service manager soon.
Thanks for the Pics. Those Nerf bars are pretty sweet. I was noticing that yourFirestone's have white letters. Mine are they same type but are all black. Any differences anybody? Mines a GMC. Won't see it until Friday. Just started college today and didn't want to bring it up here to Santa Barbara CA. Left it at home in the garage. Dam I want to drive it!! Nick
What's great is that the dealer's have tried what's in the manual and they don't work. So you could actually cut it out and burn that section...
Dean
Actually there is one part that makes sense...where the dealer is instructed not to acknowledge there is a vibration since they may not be able to fix it...or maybe it actually isn't a vibration. Also the importance of test drives to identify what, where, how, and the vibration itself which I noticed most dealers DON'T do.

automatic with 13K miles.
I have the vibration problems and the click or
tapping in the engine...
Now during the last 2k miles, she's used a
pint of oil every 500 miles... no leaks to be
found. I visit with my dealer today to get
new tires.
Any suggestions????
I love my truck, but ... "I'm losing that loving
feeling."
pint every 500 = quart every 1000 seems like a bit much...and they can't blame it on break in. Wonder what excuse they'll come up with today.
Did you have the TSB done to change out the rack and pinion and eliminate the vibes?
How many sets of tires have you gone through?
Click or tapping on start up or continuous during idle and/or acceleration?
Specifics would be helpful...so many TSB's so little time....let us know.

Oil usage. Any more than 1 qt per 1500 miles is considered by GM excessive per their shop manual.
Only keep the oil level at 1/2 way up the cross hatches = 6 qts. See if that stops your oil consumption.
My miles/hour averages are as follows:
99 Silverado 25,641 miles 614.3 hours = 41.74 mph.
00 Silverado 8432 miles 172.79 hours = 48.8 mph
I tend to accumulate miles in big chunks when I travel. Not too much commute time in the averages.
My average for to/from work is probably 15-20mph.
