...Model A Ford, but the wheels look slightly different. I don't think it's a Chevy because Chevies had doors on the hood versus louvers. Is it a Plymouth?
TR250, I think....or is it a regular TR4.... used to own one. The TR250 was a one-year car (1968) and a great little automobile. Basically the TR4 body mated to the TR6 engine. Has the special "surrey" top.
Look at the badge on the hood Shifty, and the license plate as well as the placement of the steering wheel. There was no TR-250 outside the US, it was known as the TR-5.
Oh, yeah, TR-5, that's right. Also called the TR5 PI for "petrol injection". I think it had (gulp) Lucas fuel injection--ironically the carbed TR250 could pass US emissions and the injected TR5 couldn't! Go figure....too bad, a 150HP TR4 with 6 cylinder engine would have been nice! Methinks a man might want to hurl that Lucas injection over a fence and get hisself two big Webers.
What IS that race car, some kind of Michelotti design or??? headlights are wrong for a Spit but grill looks very Spitfirish....
It's a TR-S, essentially a TR-3 with a special body by Michelotti and various race mods to compete in the LeMans 24 hrs races of '60 and '61. It presaged the TR-4 (also by Michelotti) but was never introduced in street legal form.
If you ever see Triumph at LeMans in the Speed channel program listings it tells the story of the Triumph factory racing at LeMans. It's not a one-off there were 3 or 4 made perhaps more. The pictured car was photographed at a vintage car race.
Yeah, but Detroit wasn't a bombed out heap of rubble either. I think Benz did a pretty good job with the 170 (that's what that is, isn't it) considering the country looked like the bottom half of a Shake 'n Bake bag in the late 40s, early 50s.
The Brits did, however, finally leap into the modern world with this one in 1948: (sorry the picture is so big but I wanted this particular car to show y'all)
Yeah it's a 170S....you can tell it's a more modern car by the fenders, which make it from 49, but with looks of a 1935 American car. I guess it is somewhat of a miracle that they were making anything...but if anyone could at the time, it was MB.
The Jag is timeless, of course. It wasn't very dated even when it was 10 years old...and compare a 48 to a 58 Chevy to see what happened elsewhere. But some mainstream Brits were laughably old. This thing remained in production until like 1958 or 59, IIRC
Austin Atlantic...I kind of like those. I saw an Austin Devon a couple years ago that was pretty cool....kind of a similar thing, more like a 3/4 scale 41 Chevy.
Damn...I have a pic to post, but I can't bring it up, as comcast is all screwed up right now and I cnly get to certain sites.
The chubby looking Alfa was a 2600 Sprint coupe ca. '60 which was obviously styled by Bertone and presaged the look of the trimmer, smaller Guilia Sprints and Sprint Veloces, arguably some of the best looking GTs of the era.
Oh, I thought it was a trick question. The 2600 Sprints are very heavy and slow. I don't like them to drive, and parts are almost unobtainium. Buyer beware.
Well it was a trick question. I've heard the 2600s were nothing special which contrasts with the well deserved reputation of the later Giuilia Sprints by Bertone which were fantastic road and racing cars then and highly desireable collectibles now.
Notice the small scoop atop the rear fender, signifies that this car had air conditioning.
That's almost as cool as the wire wheels. Yup that's a '56 'perial and I'm trying to resist the temptation to buy it, the seller is asking 20K. Good thing I don't have the dough.

Although not squished in the "usual" sense. Bonus points if you can idenfity the car! :-)
Here are other images from that site. Some are rather gruesome...

My guess is that car is a Model A Ford, or perhaps a Chevy of ~ 1928 – 1932 vintage.

It's a 1947 Model 78, Bob. As you can imagine '46 and '47 models were very close to those of 1941 on account of the unpleasantness of '41-'45.

Compare that dated Oldsmobile design to what the Europeans were doing with styling in 1948...of course, the Europeans weren't mass producing yet.
But more mass market European cars in the late 40s were even more ancient in design than American cars...of course, the tech was different
And the Brits were even older, old design and old tech
American firms had about 10-15 more years of being styling trendsetters
The Brits did, however, finally leap into the modern world with this one in 1948: (sorry the picture is so big but I wanted this particular car to show y'all)

I have a pair of Renault Dauphine cuff links, but I don't want a car to go with them.
I think they stole the chrome stripe rightoff a postwar Pontiac.
