Hey Andre, thanks for the post. I can only imagine the groovin' songs you would hear tooling around in a '57 DeSoto back in the day.........Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, and of course, the King ....................... :shades:
Yep, here's one explanation: "The Mannix Roadsters, built by Dick Dean out of the Barris Kustoms shop, were built from '68 Olds Toronados & were pretty wild customs. 2 cars were built, and Barris retained the cars after the first 32 episodes (replaced by a pair of '68 Dodge Dart GTS converts), 1 ended up at Hollywood Motorama Museum in sad shape. Both were sold at the '84 Barris auction. One is rumored to be in a museum in Tennessee." Apparently the Barracuda came after the Dart, with a 383.
Yep, the detective was Frank Cannon, the car was a Lincoln Mk IV (he got a new one each season). Actor Willian Conrad played the part. He was also Matt Dillon in the radio version of Gunsmoke (dating myself ).
an old crime/detective type drama around the late 60's/early 70's that had George Peppard in it? I'm thinking it was "Banacek" or something like that? Did he drive anything interesting? I was thinking it was him that had the customized Toro convertible, but was getting him mixed up with Mannix.
I'm not sure of the age here, but I can say the Zephyr name was used by Lincoln/Mercury for years, I am guessing this is a Mercury Zephyr, circa 1960ish. :confuse:
Mercury didn't use the Zephyr name until 1978. Ford and Lincoln used it prior to that, but Mercury didn't use it until their version of the Fairmont came along.
That's right Lemko, here's Banacek's Packard-Darrin 180, entering his residence on Louisbourg Square, Beacon Hill, Boston's most exclusive neighborhood.>
You forgot to take into account that Checker styling was usually behind the curve, that's a 1954 Checker A6 (nearly identical to the Checker A2 of the late 40s).
A bunch of those shows were part of a rotation (forget the exact nam- something like mystery theatre? Nah, that's not right)
McMillan and wife and COlumbo were part of the series too. Everyone knows what Columbo drove, but does anyone remember what Wife (Susan St. James I think) drove around SF?
The dilapidated old van is either an Austin or a Morris, as it was badged as either, and it was made in the mid 50's, through to about 1959. We had thousands of them as Royal Mail vans.
Nice scene, lots of decent cars; I'll have a go starting from the left black Chevrolet 210 1953 blue Hudson Hornet, 1957 green(ish) Edsel 1958 ( is this a Ranger?) the car approaching is a 59 Cadillac grey car on right is another Hudson, probably a 52 or 53 - is it a Wasp ?
Anyone know if this is a Southern street scene or is it supposed to be Seattle where Charles moved in '47? IMDB says the movie was filmed in Baton Rouge.
...does anyone remember what Wife (Susan St. James I think) drove around SF?
Rats, I can almost picture it. Sports car, I think. Or maybe an SL Mercedes.
For those who want a real challenge, there was a detective series named Longstreet in the late '60s or early '70s. Starred James Franciscus (don't know why I remember that). Anyway, what did he drive?

I think it was actually an older model, like a '65-66. Wasn't it yellow?
