As if Toyota in 2009 could be so fun.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,408
I think th Avalon debuted for 1995. I remember my mom wanted one - but they were a little too dear for her expense desires.

Cressida was redone for 1989 yeah, bigger and rounder.

I guess nothing really replaced the Cressida, it was just phased out and replaced with dull FWD iso-chambers...really, it is indicative of the direction Toyota took in the 90s.

And still follows to this day though I heard rumors about the return of the Supra.

Yeah, we've been hearing about that one for years, along with the mysterious Lexus LF supercar.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
...was killed by the strengthening Japanese yen in the early '90s, which made it too expensive to sell here as a Toyota, so Lexus got the GS300 to take its place and Toyota got a US-built Buicamry.

Stuff we missed out on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRpDNgb0NRY
  • au1994au1994 Member Posts: 3,701
"Buicamry" is right. My Dad (67) was an Olds guy with a few Caddy's thrown in for years. His last 2 company cars were an Olds 88 and then a Camry, he got to select both. When he retired, he bought a Camry, but has been making noises about wanting to get an Avalon. So I guess for at least one consumer the Avalon and Camry have replaced the Buick and Cadillac.

Amazing the progression of the Toyota model line over the years, but very smart when you think about it. They hooked the consumer early in their buying days with Corolla's, Celica's or Tercel's. Offered them the Camry when they needed to upgrade and now have the Avalon (or Camry) for their golden years.

That does seem to happen - Pf_Flyer has driven Nissans forever. Maybe the ruined LED third light on his Versa will ruin it for him.

I had a wonderful Tercel I drove for 17 years. The three other brands I've owned since then have all been fine. Maybe Toyota will sell me another car, but there's no loyalty there. My Dad loved his '53 Buick but wound up in a Valiant and Falcon after that.

People seem to hold grudges against manufacturers at least as much as they are loyal to a brand - probably more so. It's a mystery. :shades:

It's no mystery, it's human nature. If you get good service from a car you're getting what you expected but if you don't it's a bit of a shock and it makes more of an impression, doesn't it?

And it's the name of the discussion, but if you aren't going to take my hint, I guess I'll have to post one myself. :)

Unveiled Maserati Gran Turismo Cabrio, 2009 (to be presented in Geneva Autoshow 2010).

    Ahh...

    Sight.

    Very good.

This one is just a concept, but it should be recognizable (and it's coming to the Frankfurt Auto Show this fall). Supposedly it's a serious design proposal.

    Not Saviero, but Saveiro.

    We would pronounce it sah-VAY-du.

Unless you're from the gaucho south and roll your Rs, then it would be sah-VAY-rrrrrru. :D

In Brazil we don't follow the "i before e, except after c" rule. My last name breaks that rule, not once but twice!

Yeah, that's a Mini Coupe. Wonder if it's more than just an exercise--could be the spiritual successor to the CRX.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
That one doesn't run, but it rolls. :)

"Everything you see is doable for production. It might not be cheap, but it's doable. Hopefully we can get the OK before the end of the year. We will need another two to three years to develop the car. For sure we have to do a thorough aerodynamic study, because we've only done a rough one on the computer."

Their designs are starting to rival Aston Martin's. Gorgeous!

How 'bout a Mini Couper... :D

Looks a bit odd, like someone tried to fit a Miata's hard top on a convertible Mini.

Saves 200 lbs, is that enough? I'd like to see it even lighter than that.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,408
I don't know if I like that study...looks like the bottom half of a normal Mini with a new top. Doesn't look fun for the 5'10"+ crowd
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I don't like the top either. Looks like an afterthought.

That wouldn't happen to be a DeTomaso Vallelunga, would it?

    Why yes it would! ;)

1967 Oldsmobile Delta 88. He should have had a designated driver, not a designated diver....
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Close - it was actually a 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88. Olds model names were confusing back in the 1960s.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Lincoln F150.

It's not anything but an F150, either.

    Gosh I hate that grille.

Looks like Fiat 1100s--lots of them--and IIRC they are still on the road as taxis in some parts of India under a different name.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,669
That's right Stephen, those are Premier Padminis, an Indian version of the Fiat 1100D. This version of the Millecento was introduced in India a few years after it's Italian debut in 1962 and is still in use in India and Pakistan, mostly as cabs.

Production in Mumbai ended in '98.

    "Renault Caravelle, early 1960s. "

    Close enough, it's a '59.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Definitely a Ford motor. It looks like it is stuffed pretty tight in there. Is it a 429 V-8?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yuck, you'd have to be crazy to pick that over a loaded Flex.

I think the Flex is actually pretty cool, it looks like a Super-sized Mini Cooper.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,669
    Nope it's not a (Boss) 429.
