Regardless of the color, I believe the Cadillac 62 Convertible is a 1948 rather than a '51.

    Yup Facel-Vega Excellence.....

    That didn't last long!

Its an Autobianchi A112 and the black bonnet probably meansan Abarth version...

    I believe the Cadillac 62 Convertible is a 1948 rather than a '51.

The '48s didn't have tail fins. It's got to be a 1949 or later.
  • lokkilokki Member Posts: 1,200
    Right you are Magnette...

    It's a 1979 A112 Abarth

I knew you'd be the one most likely to get it, but since it's from 1979 and - according to the Craiglist Ad (Below) "very rare and hard to find even in europa" I was hoping it might slip past you. Nope :)

The 1948 model Cadillac is the first finned Cadillac unless it's the Series 75 long-wheelbase/limo model which carried the vintage 1942 prewar style through 1949.

bar none---my favorite Cadillac of all time:

    image
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
It's lovely--I thought the fastbacks ran from 1949-52?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Yes that's a '49 I believe. Has the split rear windshield that you can't see very well. Look how modern the roofline is. I think they would call this a model 6107 Sedanet...not sure. There was also a 6207 listed.

Here's a GIGANTO picture of the car:

    http://www.seriouswheels.com/1940-1949/1949-Cadillac-Club-Coupe-Fastback-black-p- - - o.htm

IMO Cadillac never made another car that comes close to this one in pure, clean, elegant good taste.

Well the pimpy wire wheels need to be removed, but other than that..... :P

If you can't see through the wires, to make the car spacious and graceful underneath, then don't bother putting them on.

Ah yes, the lovely and talented MG TC, I believe. . .
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
only one year makes. Here's the TCs successor, and it's certainly not an improvement:

This model was "redesigned for American tastes", so the ad copy went.

Gee what does that say about US? :confuse:

Lost all its charm. Those wheels are hideous.

    an Italian car to re-design:

    Egad! I can tell it's a Lancia, but. . .

    Virgil Exner maybe?
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
Those hideous wheels distinguish my MG Magnette from the near twin Wolseley - they look better on the Magnette than the TD/TF range, I think. Actually the earliest TDs had a different disc wheel, with four slots around the edge - I used to pass one on my evening commute until about ten years ago.
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
I agree about the '49 Sedanette being absolutely classic. It's always been a favorite. Your pic with the wire wheels is interesting -- I've seen much worse, and I could see how this look could grow on someone (as long as you had the originals to swap out for serious times).
I was kind of confused about the front parking lights varying from solid rectangle shape to small round lights in a rectangular bezel. I'm guessing that this small distinction indicated the difference between the Series 61 vs Series 62???
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,669
Based on the size I'd say it's probably a Flavia or a Flaminia.

I'd make one exception, IMO the '49 Convertible was even nicer, I saw a black Series 62 with a tan top this weekend and it was just outstanding!

    Here's a '48 Sedanette with the correct Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels>

It's easy to make just about any convertible attractive, but it's not so easy to make a "post 2D" look good.

LANCIA -- it was designed by Raymond Loewy, who should have known better. Maybe the man was on the skids at this time (1960). Maybe Exner stole his brain. Who knows? Yes it's a Flaminia-based car, with special coachwork by Zagato. The full name is a Lancia Flaminia Supersport Zagato. I believe one of the Zagato family designers just died last week.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Yes, it was a production car:

That looks like a Dellow Mk II which was a British sports car popular for Hill climbs and trials.

    Wikipedia: Dellow.

That looks like a yellow Dellow.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
A very mellow yellow Dellow no doubt. I don't think they made but a couple hundred of them, as a kind of replicar trials car for the UK. late 40s to late 50s.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
I doubt very many people ordered a Series 61 or 62 sedanette with wire wheels as they were the least expensive 1949 Cadillacs. Most Cadillacs of that vintage sporting wire wheels would've been convertibles.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
That yellow reminds me of a Minneapolis-Moline tractor.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Funny you should say that---some of Mellow's early clients were agricultural companies who needed cars to inspect field work.
  • lokkilokki Member Posts: 1,200
Why buy a Mellow yellow Dellow, when you could have had one of these?

    The Jeepster?

There's a restored baby blue/white Jeepster sitting in my condo's parkade. Very nice shape!

Yup, the 49 - 50 Kaiser Willys Jeepster. Just the thing for a businessman wanting to inspect agricultural properties I think!
  • au1994au1994 Member Posts: 3,701
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what the heck is a parkade? I have never heard that term before.

A structure used for the storing and parking of motorized vehicles, mainly horseless carriages, automobiles, light trucks, and in some cases motorbikes for short and long term.

This structure may be above, or under ground and may or may not be attached to other buildings. :P

    It's my building's undergound garage. :P

The only stupid question is the one not asked. As my teacher used to say.

Wow, that pic of the Jeepster looks remarkably like the one that my wife's stepfather owned in Wyoming. He passed away last year and my MIL had to sell it. It wasn't quite in that nice of condition, of course, but I think she got a few thousand for it.

Still leaves her with two cars - a '97 Eldorado and a '97 Grand Cherokee Limited. Neither one probably has more than 35K on them.

Small is good offroad. The Dellow could go places that a Jeepster couldn't being both smaller and lighter.

Aw geez it's one of those Hillman/Sunbeam/Singer/Humber things from the late 60s or early 70s possibly a Hillman Avenger or Hunter or some variation thereof .

The hubcaps actually look like something off of a Dodge Dart. Meanwhile, around the windshield/cowl area, it looks like it's related to an American Chevy Nova. My guess is some kind of Vauxhall or Opel, circa 1973?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,669
I thought it might be an Opel or Vauxhal but that's not either emblem on the grille,
Perhaps that one was branded a Chrysler or Talbot?
