Yes, they should have said "a somewhat better preserved Plymouth..."
Obviously a Savoy or a Plaza.

I figured you'd post the tan one, Andy. :)

Here's the Inside Line blurb about it:

2010 Nissan Patrol Unveiled in Abu Dhabi

And yeah, probably the Armada here Juice.

Leyland (Australia) P76 - about 1975 - I think the boot was supposed to be big enough to carry an oil drum
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
Behind the blue Nissan in that Australian row of 4x4's the first white truck would appear to be an Austin Gypsy, which I think they built under licence for a few years in Australia, in the late 50's, after introducingit here a year or two earlier, but it didn't catch on, much as they found in UK when they tried to flog it here for a longer period - it consistently failed to sell in a market dominated by the Land Rover...
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    Correct!
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
That looks like a prototype for the XJ12 I think, it is certainly registered in Coventry in 1969-70 and I don't recall having seen that grille on any production Jag...The high-line bumpers presage the Mk11 version which was considerably later.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Actually this was an abortive Austin-Jaguar project by British Leyland from the mid 1970s.

Here's one that is not what it seems:

I think they should drop the name (nobody knows Armada anyway) and stick with Patrol.

Plus, the photo shared was of a Patrol. ;)

I don't recognize the logo. Honda Prelude clone, but the C-pillar looks different, is it a chinese copy-cat?
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
You're in the right neighborhood, but it's not Chinese.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I agree - the Patrol is a cool name, makes you think of the car always moving. The Armada sounds a bit ponderous, as in, let's get this Armada moving.

Lemko, your Mercedes pic was skewing the page, so I deleted it. If you'll insert height=400 width=600" before the > in the URL, it should fit.
  • jwilliams2jwilliams2 Member Posts: 910
In post 24778 it looks to be an Austin Vanden Plas Princess....
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Back then Big was a good thing. Nowadays, big means you need to ask if it's eligible for "Cash for Clunkers". :D

So yeah, the Patrol name is more in tune with the times.

I also took a guess based on the fact that I know you troll Volvo sites on the web on a regular basis.

Triumph Acclaim, one of the weirdest rebadges ever. I think Y suffix makes it ca. 1983.

Not many hosts can brag about a fan club of one! ;)
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Correct! It's a Honda Accord by British Leyland!
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Correct - a 1967 Austin Vanden Plas Princess to be exact. I guess the hosts deleted it because the picture went beyond the borders.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Accord, of course, not Prelude like I said. Doh!
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Actually that's a Civic rebadge by British Leyland, not an Accord. ;)

Post 24777 is a Talbot sunbeam which was a european version of the Horizon here.

There's a Lotus badge on the flank which denote the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, based on the successful rallye car and sporting a 16 valve 2 liter engine. The Euro-Horizon was quite popular esp in Britain and France where most were made.

Left to right - 63 Impala, maybe a 61 Rambler Cross Country (small granddaddy of the Nissan Armada) and a 58 Buick behind it. In the background, a similarly aged Rambler, and hidde behind the wagon appears to be an early-mid 50s convertible.

the multiple chimnies indicates it was built before central heating was invented. It is a wonder that prior to the date of the photograph, the building is still standing because of not one chimney fire. :)

Not sure about the dates, but here goes - 64 Thunderbird, late 60's Dodge Charger, mid sixties Corvair van, early 60's Ford Falcon behind the Charger, 67 Pontiac behind T-Bird, maybe a GM 4dr HT like and Olds behind Corvair van and an older Rolls Royce farther back.
  • wgraferwgrafer Member Posts: 592
Parked on left:1966 Thunderbird, 1967 Pontiac Catalina
Moving: 1968 Dodge Charger, '60-'61 Ford Falcon, maybe a '67 Ford Custom taxi.
Parked on right: '62 Corvair Greenbriar van, '61-'62 unidentifiable GM 4-dr hardtop

You guys have better monitors than mine. I am pretty sure that the Falcon is a '60, but that's the only additional thing that I can contribute.

Yep, the concave grille is the tip-off that it's a '60 Falcon.

    Defeated again by the margins...

The taxi (Hong Kong again?) - is it a Nissan Skyline or a derivative thereof from the late 50's? I think that model derived from a Prince Skyline, and might well have been sold as such in overseas markets - not that they exported many then...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670

Not a Nissan Skyline, or a Datsun but simply a 1957 Prince Skyline built by the Prince Motor Co. before it was acquired by Nissan Motors in 1966 and sold cars under the Datsun Skyline name.

This funky 50s MoPar look alike was a direct ancestor of the mighty Nissan GTR!

Dodge Lancer--I'll say 1961 since it's got so much chrome.

Right you are. I always liked these Valiant/Lancer designs. the wheels on this one make it look kind of unique.
