    Anyhow, the Ariane was based in the Vedette chassis and offered with either an Aronde 4cyl engine or an Aquillon 8 cyl engine). But given the frequent model & name confusion of the epoque, every name might be possible applied to any model, at least occasionally.

    Plenty of room for confusion between the Ariane and the Vedette,they were both clearly influenced by American Ford styling.

    I read once that Simca was the best selling marque in France during the 1950s, I think the Aronde was the most popular model.

    The Chevy has the chrome stripe indicating a BelAir or a 210, no way to tell which it is and I can't see enough of the middle Ford to tell what trim line it is.

    I based my answer on the Ford in the middle on the trunk emblem having horizontal arms rather than the shallow V arms of the Ford on the left.

    I want to say that the V indicated a V-8, but I'm not sure. Also, the middle Ford has a B-pillar. I think that Ford used 'Victoria' to indicate a hardtop, and called the pillared sedans 'Sedan'.

    I think that Ford used 'Victoria' to indicate a hardtop, and called the pillared sedans 'Sedan'.

    Back then IIRC pillared sedans were Tudors or Fordors but some Victorias were h/ts, some not (notably Crown Vics which used a swept back B pillar as the "Crown.")

    Ford began using the term "Victoria" back in the 1920s for it's two-doors but I think it gradually lost meaning as to any specific type of body. Hence today's Four-door only CVs. ;)

    I used to know a guy who once had a Phoenix...4 cyl...it was so weak that there were hills in Seattle it literally couldn't climb, and he'd have to back down. Dark days.

    You have sharp eyes Fintail, the photograph is of a Lancia belonging to a resident of Wurzburg Bavaria, he says the car is one of 300 or so registered in Germany.

    Wanna go for the Gold and identify which Lancia this is?>

    I have no idea...never seen it before. Very bland and inoffensive, early-mid 90s, reminds me of the Rover 800 series coupe.

    It's a Lancia Kappa Coupe (ca.'94-'00). The Kappa replaced the Thema series at the top of the Lancia line and came in sedan, coupe and wagon form.

    There was no equivalent to the Thema 8.32 which had a Ferrari V8!.

    Well, the big black fastback is definitely a Buick of the 1942-48 vintage. The two-toned car behind it is a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air sport coupe and I can just barely make out the tail lamp of a 1955 or 1956 Plymouth.

    Yep, the Sedanette is a 46 Buick, probably a Roadmaster, which preceded the Bel Air h/t by a decade.

    The Plymouth on the left is definitely a '56 - probably a Belvedere with a V8
    as indicated by the emblem on the trunk.

    And though this car is French, there is an Italian lineage to Simca. Until the 1951 release of this French designed Aronde, Simca made Fiat designed cars.

    So there may be some Italian connection influence on the design team ;)

    I'm not sure about the Alpine but it's possible the 1200TV and the Oceane or products of the same designer. I haven't been able to come up with who designed either, if I had to guess I'd say there's some Michelotti in both.

    A note on the Alpine. Early versions had big tail fins that gave it an even more "American" look>

    1957 Ford Fairlane 500 two door sedan faux hardtop, almost indistinguishable with the chrome over the door post. Strong blue and white with the only flaw being the license plate on the grill instead of a holder on the front bumper.

    Is that a picture of actual cop cars? The reason that I ask is that the badge on the background car indicates a small block V-8, and I would expect them to have the big block (probably a 396).
