The red beast started fine this a.m. - started right up and purrrrrrrred like a kitten, except for the cold start knock that the 6.0L seems to be known for. (Think the temp got down to approx. 26 last night.)

Just got the HPIII unit back from Hypertech. Last programming by dealer screwed the unit up as it couldn't recognize the new programming. When reprogramming my truck tonight, I noticed a new feature. Previously, one could reprogram the shift points and rev limiter, as for these were at WOT. It appears that they have added another option to set shift points and rpm at less than WOT. Still have to play around with it, but kind of confused as to why they would do something like that. Well, have to see if the thing works anyway.

method on defrosting the Silverado windows. I cracked the driver's side window a little and it improved the defrosting time by about 50% (reminds me of what I had to do on the 66 bug with a gas heater I had in college.) It still takes in the 5-10 minute range to defrost the reg cab windows completely. I only have to defrost the windows when we have high humidity, which is normally rare in Tucson but lately almost constant. I won't complain because we need the water in the desert.
I'm just surprised that the A/C works very quickly but the defroster/heater works relatively slowly. I think my truck likes the normal 70/40 degree winter weather better. I normally use the heater on the way to work and the A/C on the way home.

Well after temporarily departing from the GM club to the Ford F-450 Bifuel club, I have decided to come back to yak and argue with Ryan, Quad, Tim, Obyone, Redsilver, .... just cuz I missed yawl. That, and the state of AZ has cancelled my $30,000 tax refund on my yet to be built F450 Crew Cab.

Gotta get back in line for a HD Silverado. Any of yawl buy one? Read Hunter98's account of driving at the Power Tour.

20F and 10" of overnight snow in sunny N.AZ this morning. 1999 4.8 Silverado still running great. Put the 4 wheel Studded snows on last weekend, played rally truck up on the mountain a couple of nights after work this past week. Forgot how much fun it is to run a GM V-8 at WFO between 4 and 5 grand in 4wd thru the forest....

Well, thinkin maybe of getting the 3.73/8.1 combo in a 2500HD CC 4x4 instead of my original 4.10/6.0 cancelled order. Anybody heard any mileage on either engine/tranny combo's in the HD trucks?

Dang TOPHAT parking brake acting up again on my '99. This will be the 3rd time fixing.

Amazing that, when putting on the studdies, the disc pads on the rear look barely worn at 30,000 miles. That DRP system on the new GM trucks must really work as the truck has done quite a few miles towing a trailer that weighs more than the truck

Anybody get their seatbelt recall work done?

Has anybody had problems with their electric windows having a grinding or scraping noise when opening or closing? It is just happening to the drivers side now but if it is a defect I think that the passenger's side will do it soon.

welcome back...8.1/3.73? Big change from an F450..LOL!!

    slamphere

There has been some problems with the windows...like the bolts being stripped. Take it in and have the dealer take care of it...no sense in wondering....good luck!!

    Temp 14F.

Ordered another varmint rifle. Figured to get this done before President elect Gore and Hillary team up to rewrite the US Constitution.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Yea i posted it but it was changed. Thats cool i have no problem with that just that someone (i doubt its tim) is messing with my username here at edmunds.

    Ryan
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
ryan, in your opinion...of those that you are known and disliked by, who would have the most to gain by getting you banned from edmunds? Could it be the same person who asked you to leave the SUV forum? Do you think that he has enough knowledge of the internet and browsers to pull it off? Just questions to help you think about and along these lines....

Back to trucks, my rear quarter windows are finally in after two weeks as I called the service advisor on Thursday. Funny thing. The parts always seem to arrive when I call. Anyone else notice this unique feature on Gm parts?

Anyone with a rhino liner i urge them to use some Rhino Shine on it. Bought a bottle for $12.95 and wow it made the liner look brand new again. Used half the bottle though. One bad thing is it says use in ventilated area. I did it outside in my driveway and the smell still got to me. It goes on a purplish blue but after it dries you cant see that color anymore. Great product i would suggest it.

I've had my windows make all kinds of grinding noises after every time I've been out playing in the dirt.

Got that way up in Alaska, in Death Valley, down in Hollister Hills. It seems dirt get into the workings and it gets noisy. After about a month, it goes away.

Did you just have some windy, dusty days in Sacto? That might be enough to get dirt in the works. Or a dirt/gravel road.

deposit money back? I'm waiting on the converted Yukon I have on order to see if our gov. and attn.gen. gals get their way before I cancel - it's not yet officially repealed but it looks like it will be. I remember a couple of week ago both of them saying they would honor the rebates. I guess it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind. I had to give a $1500 downpayment to the local conversion company separately so I think that money is gone for sure.

My drivers window was grinding getting worse over time then one day it fell from closed to all the way down. Defective plastic motor casing.

yes we have had some bad north wind days and we also live on a ranch in Wilton, Ca. I don't get into the mud anymore since I sold the best 4x4 in the world TOYOTA. had a 150,000 on it no paint to speak of and still got 3,000 for it oh it was a 1986. The only thing I get stuck in the mud is my tractor.

    Thanks steve

Quad - what caliber? I'm guessing 220Swift? My ol' .243 pushing a 4000+fps 55gr Nosler BT is still my favorite and only for varmit'ning, works on deer too, with heavier bullets.

Fortop - still have my depo of $3500 down at my local Ford dealer. They have been GREAT. Have not even cashed my check. Said they would return my un-cashed check at any time before I actually took possesion of the F450. Two best buddies are tentatively out about $4k each if Jane gets her way. I suspect you will not lose any money on the deal as the State will pay you if the doorknobs won't refund you money. I'm holding out for the Legislature to decide, but I think Jane will get her way.

The good thing after looking into beds for the F450, is that if I go back to ordering a 2500HD, I'll have a flatbed put on the back instead of a regular PU bed. Much more practical for hauling snowmobiles and 4 dirtbikes and stuff while pulling a travel trailer. Several of my buddies' wifes say I will be "marriage-proof" if I get a flat bed truck. Not sure if that is actually a negative.

Still looking for ACTUAL fuel economy on the new HD's with 6.0 or 8.1....

I have a 97 silverado 4X4 that pulls slightly in either direction when initiating a turn. It's an intermittent problem. Any ideas as to what the cause is?
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
I'm too cheap for that expensive ammo.

Buy Federal .223 FMJ 55 gr boat tail by the case.

3240 fps, Save barrels, not varmints!

Yeah the window on my 2000 on the Drivers side make that aweful sound when they go up and down. The passenger side is ok as of yet. The 99 when I had it for 20k never did make the sound but they slowed down some over time. When I get time thanksgiving week I think I will stop and talk to the service manager. Have to work on projects for school and Exams this week. Well anyways I hopefully can hear some good gas milage figures on the Duramax. That and reliabitity are the only things left to sort out before I am sure of ordering for Oct. 2001 a 2002. I wish the allison had a 100k warranty like the engine does.

    Best of luck

    Hunter

PS deer season starts this friday in Illinois!!!

I posted some time ago, a tip for more quickly defrosting your windows I read in the owners manual for an Acura Integra I used to own. Use your A/C as well as it is also a dehumidifier. You won't damage your A/C by having it on and using the heater at the same time. I can tell you from much personal experience in our cold, wet Seattle winters that it more quickly gets rid of the water vapor(mist) inside the vehicle.
Additionally, an old mechanic friend told me your A/C system will perform better/last longer if you use it year round instead of seasonally.

Can't run the defrost on Chevy's without the A/C compressor coming on anyway....
  • k0hbk0hb Member Posts: 89
On my 2001 LT I can run the defrost WITHOUT the compressor. "AC" is a separate button all by its lonesome which you have to specifically press (in addition to placing the flow selector in the "defrost" position.

The compressor turns on automatically when you put in in defrost mode, it does not illuminate the ac light though because you are not using the AC. Your LT is no different than my LS they use the separate button for the AC. 95% of all cars today turn on the AC compressor with the defroster.
  • pjcavpjcav Member Posts: 80
that checks out correctly gsxr1216. mine does same, as should all silverados

    Full breed golden retriever

He is 7 yrs old. He stil acts like a puppy though. Cant get enough attention. My mom is planning on getting 2 in the next yr or 2. That should be fun. Bad enough this one all summer all he wants to do is swim and all winter wants to play in the snow.

This is my 3rd golden retriver. Had 2 when i was little both died of cancer. They were dark red this one is a blond color. Its like the new color for these doggs dont see many red ones anymore

My Ten year old was Red, he died of severe Arthritis we suspect, he got it when he was about 8.5. Both parents of the litter Bo and his [non-permissible content removed] are Dark Red. Bo's Human mother is a good friend of my mom and I am supposed to get the pup for my 21st birthday, which happened this past saturday but I won't get the pup Till late January. But anyways I can't wait till I get him and get his trained (Housebroken, Commands, Hunting, Retrieving, ect). Anyways I guess we are alot alike in even more ways, both 2000 GMC's Both 21, Both in College, Close in the US, same animal tastes, ect. Anyways Have a great week, I have three tests and lots of projects I have to prepare for.

    Where have you been?

Ok after about 3-4 wks since my trans update i have to say the milage hasnt changed. Highway/city is still 14.5-15.0 and all city is still 12-13. So the trans update thusfar hasnt effected my mpg.

Just thought id fill you in

    Ryan
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
at your dog's age, it would be more of senility rather than ADD.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
no way been like that since he was a puppy.

He really hasnt grown up. Still acts like a puppy
