conned a salesman into letting me drive a new crew cab 8.1 w the Alli yesterday. I wanted to run it hard, but I didn't want to piss him off. It was pretty sweet. Got a couple of looks on the street. Daam it was nice. Wonder how it tows. Anybody have one yet? Nick
My 2001 two-tone Silverado LS ext-cab Z71 order finally got accepted!!!!
Looks like after 4 months of my order getting rejected because of the two-tone paint option, it finally went thru last week.
I know this probably has been posted some time ago, but now that I have my truck tracking number, what can I do with it? I know there is a 1-800 number that I can call to get updates, but I don't know what that 1-800 number is. Can someone (probably Ryan) please provide me the details?

this opinion will vary as well, but, call once a week, to see if you've been assigned a tpw (target production week). you can call twice a week, but it prob'ly won't help do much besides making YOU feel better. in doing this, you will most likely know when your truck is being built before your dealer does. finally, if i remember right, it was about two weeks after my tpw that i got my truck. and that was for it to go from indiana to the dealership in kentucky. they prepped it, and trailered down to south carolina. my tpw was the first week of january and i was driving it the 21st. almost a year old now! and a wonderful year it has been...congrats and good luck!
Watching it rain in southern illinois, I guess it is raining at Ryans too up in Indiana. Had a pretty sadweekend. A farmer friend who was 64 years old died pulling his stock trailer going to the sale barn on thursday. His 67 year old brother grabbed the wheel and shut the truck off. He has over the years had two trucks. Sell the old one buy the new one. We bought the old one the 75 dodge 4x4 6" lift 3/4 ton. And he bought a 2001 a couple of months ago. Pretty sad. The visitation was Friday. The funeral I couldn't make was on Saturday. Just about finished farming for the year. 15 acres of corn to go (about three hours work) but it is raining. Well I hope the rest of you had a better weekend. Get out and vote for Bush Tomarrow, every vote counts.
yep its raining and its flippin cold out. Thank god it rained my truck has so much dirt on it now you cant tell. Hopefully later this wk i can wash it. Dean guess you sent the rain this way eh?
OK Ryan...only 25 more to go before we all turn into pumpkins or tundras or something....can we do it and stay on topic? Sure seen it done inside of 6 hours or less before...so let's get it on...MNF OK all the teams that mattered played yesterday...that ought to get someone going...but the GMC Sierra ad with the Allison trans played twice that I saw. OH Boy! More electronics to play with! Actually looks like a neat setup if you need it. Upon Ryan's suggestion, I have been using Autotrac every time it rains. No slippy on the wet(and to think I tried to order my truck without it). Now I just have to remember not to get overconfident with the lunatic drivers here in NE David, congrats on your order being accepted...two tone is a personal thing, but it is what I went for too. Now go take up some calming sport like extreme mudsliding at Hooters to take your mind off the waiting...LOL come on guys we can do it make sure you save 1001 for Ryan. matthew
donn't know what you're talking about cause its still raining here. Was going to clean the truck up and take some pictures but...well the rain says it all...at least the temperature is a cold 82 degrees...LOL!!
Yeah I was gonna wash my truck last night but it was supposed to rain. It is by far the dirtiest it has ever been. Over a month and about 2500 miles since the last wash. I used to wash it ever 400 miles or so. But anyways the mud and crud makes the pewter truck look not as good as it should. Really haven;t had time between farming, school, and driving it 600+ miles a week for the last month.
Oh yeah, Im going the the GM/Chevy power Launch tour on wed. If all goes well and as planned anyways. Gona take me two hours to get home, an hour to pick a friend up on the way, and at least another hour to get there. I BETTER GET TO DRIVE THE darn duramax. But anyways hopefully they will let me take my 600 dollar 35mm camera in. If I can't well I guess Ill live if I drive it. Have fun and were gettin close to 1000.
Yeah, I really intended too but been too busy. That and the fact when I wash it I REALLY wash it and spend about two hours washing everything and drying it.
Blackmaxx like the autotrac eh? Its nice but today i left it off and just did some slippin and fishtailing on the wet pavement and leaves. It was fun until the locking rear kicked in. That option really does work nicely. Cant wait for snow. You almost didnt get autotrac???
Takin a quick survey. Filled up tonight at Sam's for $0.99 a gallon, for 87 oct. $1.07 for 93 oct. Two blocks away 87 oct is $1.35. These are prices in San Antonio. What you all payin out there??? Oby, i know you aint anywhere near $0.99 a gallon.
Drove two hours to Carbondale today to school. 75 in autotrack on really wet interstate. No problem, only passed by one car all trip a dumb [non-permissible content removed] 1980's ford escort with about 5" wide tires (THAT DORK DESERVES TO BE IN A DITCH GOIN 85) anyways when I got two blocks from the parking lot shut the autotrack off. Turned the truck around the corner and fishtailed my rear end about 30 degrees almost into the other lane. Purely accidental. Autotrack does make a difference. With it on you can try and fishtail and can't.
in va for state inspection your fogs have to be wired to shut off when high beams are used I have installed piaa 520s to low beam wire at headlight (orange wire )(2000 silverado)but it still remains hot when put into high beams and lows are off .anyone know the right connection?
Steel the power is supplied to all the lights from the fuse. The GROUND is switched by the automatic lamp switch...hehe damn GM screwing around with logic again. Can't remember what the color code is but if you can wait, I'll try to get it tomorrow...unless someone has their Service Manual handy matthew
Why do people feel that they have to drive with their fog lights on all the time when it's dark? I personally find it very iritating - almost like meeting a car with their high beams on. When I meet people driving with fogs on, I hit with my highs - but they just don't seem to understand enought to turn the damn fogs off. Just venting, sorry guys.
Steelworker Well it is tomorrow and it took so long to get this posted, went out to the garage to get the manual.
The power through the headlamp relay goes through the under hood fuse panel and is an orange wire to all lamps (except DRL and fogs). The yellow wire is the return back to the dimmer switch and on to ground.
If you e-mail me with a fax # I will send out the wiring diagram Thursday
did you know that if you added factory fog lights as an aftermarket item, you have to have the dealer program them to work? Hehe...2 hour labor charge @ $75/hr....I told the service advisor to tear up the work order as a mistake...he went "huh??". Passed him a $50 and told him thanks...actually programming was free...it was the troubleshooting that took two hours as I had wired the lights incorrectly...looking at the diagram upside down!!!LOL!
lights but found new factory lights on ebay for dirt cheap...so....had to buy em....knowing that for purposes other than looks, they are completely worthless. I think the parking lights are brighter....
use a shrouded bulb, I guess for some sort of DOT regulation reason ???? When I worked for the OEM and had demonstrators that I drove, we had Hella option fog lights that really worked.
The wiring of the factory lights on the 'rado are really scary looking on the page when looking at the wiring diagram. Everything comes back to the Body Control Module (computer). Don't ya just love it Dean? matthew
The first time I worked on the BCM, was to install the 4 light controller which allows both hi and low beams simultaneously. Their diagram was soooo easy to follow. Now the factory diagram...that's another story. I would say it was a 50/50 chance on getting it right since the diagram is a rectangle either one of only two ways could be up or down....also no reference point to check from...I remember I had to remove two interlockers that held wires in place...thought something was wrong cause illustration, if I remember correctly, required removal of only one interlocker....since it had to go to the dealer's for programming figured it was easy enough for them to figure out if it was wired incorrectly since I left them a note and factory diagram. Little did I know that they charge for research time. Time to look up the diagnostic procedure in the manual...LOL!! If that was the case, I have the manuals but too damn lazy as it is a chore in itself to find anything in those damn 4 books...
The fog lights do work. Have had some dense fog the past few mornings and it does improve visibility. ANd sometimes yes i do drive with them on when there is no fog. Its funny i have been getting flash with peoples brights (usually 2 a morning and i dont have the fogs on) as of late. I flash em right back and they immediately turn them off. Nowadays headlights seem to be getting brighter and i dont think people can tell the difference.
in bad gang areas....a flash of lights is a gang sign..and they sometimes drive around with theirs on...and if you flash yours...they have been known to follow you and kill you.....honest..
I have mine on by choice....first thing I hit at night....when semi-dark...I turn the parking lights on and have the DRL/Parking/drivings on....
yeah new lights are brighter....almost always when I;m behind a smaller car....the width of the truck puts my drivers headlight directly in their side mirror and you can see their whole face lit up....and usually they don't look happy!....I try to remember to pull up offset....oh well....they should have got a truck instead of a death trap!
haha yep i like lighting them people up in front of me. Once a lady appreciated it i think. It helped her look into her mirror she didnt have to turn on her dome lights.
On Halloween I posted about a flat tire and my inability to get the spare tire down.
Had to have the truck towed to the dealer. Turns out the shaft for the spare winch was out of alignment. It's been fixed as I used it to put the spare back up. Anybody who hasn't yet, you should check yours.
Picked up something big off the road. I could see through the hole in the tire. Truck still handled well with the flat.
Anybody have experience on those cans of tire 'fixit' stuff? There are some places I wouldn't want to try and change a flat.
I know what you mean about the ladies. I used to feel a bit guilty about lighting up someone at night till I was behind one of those "big hair" girls we have up here. She spent more time fixing her hair and checking the lips than paying attention to where she was going. Typical.
Where is the best place to hook up the third brake light and dome light?
I watched them install a cap on another truck and they were taking the power from the rear tailights. Is there someplace they can hook up the third brake light and dome light? In reseaching the caps the people on the Dodge topic seemed to think there was wiring harness already installed on their trucks. Didn't read enough posts to prove or disprove that theory.
I personally haven't used it, in an emergency, it's worth a shot, but it makes the repair process to the tire a mess, besides trying to get the surface prepped for a patch.
I've seen it mentioned in past postings that some of you think their is additional value to purchasing your vehicle from the dealer who will be doing the service.
I'm so frustrated by the arrogant, uninformed and unhelpful sales people I have come in contact with at my local dealership (1 mile away) that I am considering making my purchase at a different Chevrolet dealership. Unfortunately, the great salesman I had been working with moved a month ago to another dealership an hour away.
Needless to say, the convenience of the nearby service department would be a great asset, but if I'm given the same shoddy treatment, I may need to rethink this whole thing. What experiences have those of you had who purchased your vehicle from the non-servicing dealer?
I bought my truck from a dealer 45 miles away. But when I had it towed to a dealer (see my posts on spare tire issue) I had it towed to the local dealer 5 miles away. A dealer has to service warranty work no matter where it was bought.
Mine was a simple fix (although annoying) but there was no quibling from the service department, even though it was obivious I bought the truck elswhere.
Fix a Flat works OK for slow leak situations - but it takes 2 cans to blow up our big tires.
If you buy the truck at an inconvenient dealership just take off their badge and the service department at your local dealership won't know where you bought it.
Why would you have anything on your truck advertising for a dealership?? When they pay me, then I'll leave their advertisement on. Oh, and I don't care if they gave me the best deal ever and their service department even mows my lawn.....KEEP YOUR ADVERTISEMENTS (license plate frame or stick on plastic/cast dealership logos) OFF MY (key word here :MY) TRUCK/CAR.!!!!! ...........................................So let it be written, So let it be done.
Even advertising can be a part of negotiating (ie no stickers) if you're lucky enough to order a new truck. If not, break out your girlfriends hairdryer.

Looks like after 4 months of my order getting rejected because of the two-tone paint option, it finally went thru last week.
