I checked after work today. It was another Rear Quarter window which they already replaced a couple of months ago for noise. The current one still makes as much air noise as the old one did, so I decided to ignore it and just play the stereo louder. (it was ok until the kids opened it once, now its swiss cheese).
I told them to keep this 2nd new one for someone else. The truck goes back in less than a year anyway.
If you remove the fuse for the fuel pump, you're not running it dry. The pump does not run when the fuse is removed.
What you ARE doing is depressurizing the system.
Your comment about spilling fuel being no harm no foul may sound good, but as mentioned you're not hurting the pump by disconnecting the fuse, and doing it your way definitely harms the environment. I can't recall the exact figure, but it is somewhere in the area of spilling a tablespoon of gas is the equal of driving a new car/truck a few hundred (could be thousands, but I forget) miles smog-wise. Mulitply that by the number of cars/trucks on the road, and it is a definite harm/foul.
Why do you think even having the gas cap off triggers the Check Engine light? Those vapors are VERY harmful to the environment.
I bought my truck off the lot back in March as it was the exact truck I would have ordered if I were to order one except one option,the UY2 camper and fifth wheel wiring provisions.At the time I bought it I did not need it but we bought a fifth wheel camper this summer and I would like the wiring harness in the bed.I got by with using the trailer light plug down by the hitch but the wires catches on different things when turning sharp so I would like to add the UY2 option.Is this possible without splicing into the truck harness or does it just plug in some place on the truck?Any help in this matter would be great. The SS sure is nice (Sure, the price will be too!) I wonder if GM used the unibody configuration to strengthen the truck. Looks good but what do you think as far as body flex in the long term, being that it is long?
I guess I missed the concept on the fuse thing. Sounds like a great way to avoid the spilled gas. And sure, every little bit we can do to help the environment is important. Didn't mean to get you all fired up.
Can't tell on the design from the photos. There could still be a gap between the cab and the bed, just covered up with flexible body trim. If not, just the thought of it makes me not want to think about the ramifications. Now if we had the same material that they used to build the Millenium Falcon or starship Enterprise....no problem.
You know what i seen yesterday. A 1980's 4x4 suburban. Your thinking whats so odd about that. Well it was a dually. Had dual wheels in the back like a pickup looked strange.
Ryan, they do some strange s...er stuff in the midwest, and it seems more so the closer ya get to Ohio. Although Michigan is where I saw an ElCamino on a Blazer 4X4 chassis in 1975. Down in Louisiana, I saw last year, a 'burb 4X4 with a chassis AND body lift. Then the guy had a platform built up about 4 feet from the roof from front to back with a railing around it all. The kicker was there was a steering column up there too! Dual Controls 10 feet in the air. It was to be able to spot game in the bayous and swamps. So a dually 'burb...mild, weird none the less. matthew

....make a unibody truck back in the 60's. They held up pretty good for a few years. After a while and after going over some rough stuff they did begin to crack around where the cab and bed came together. A lot of people are starting to fix those up because they do look sharp with no break between. I think it looks cool and I bet with no more rough stuff than it will be going over, it will hold up fine.
No. I'm not talking about the Ranchero. I'm talking about a regular pickup. They made some that were unibody's. Basically the bed just came right up to the cab and I guess the two were welded together. Anyway the finished product looked slick. Really smooth with no lines. This was from the factory, too.
Picked it up today after many months; 2001 (Big Mouth Bass) GMC Sierra 2500 Extended Cab 4x4 shortbed, White, Neutral int. 6.0L 3.73 (yes, Tim, a 3.73, I don't need the 4.10). Drove it home in the rain and it still looks clean. Only thing I've noticed is orangepeal paint, but you have to look close to see it on white. Can I do anything about that? Came home and sold my '86 F--d Diesel for $1600 over retail bluebook, (was a very good truck and California is still booming). Buy a new truck and sell my old one all in one day. Somebody's looking out for me.
Yes you can......it takes a while...but polishing will smooth it out..(not wax...polish)(or compound)...I rubbed the Olds out so much....the primer was showing thru in a few spots!.....but ohhhh was it glass smooth....
3:73 with the 2.48 1st gear in a 2500 was too sluggish off the line for me.....sometimes the 4:10's seem it also.....but not as much...(duh)

My parents are ordering a 2001 Silverado tomorrow. I would like to have opinions on the composite pickup box and the ride control suspension. Is the composite box worth the extra money? Any problems with the ride control suspension? Also, in the Silverado brochure, it says that if you get the optional leather seats, only the front seats are leather. What are the back seats? In the pictures they all look leather. Any thoughts are welcome.
You gonna be using that bed alot? Throwing stuff back there? Or will a bedliner suffice???

DEAN - The tail light guards are decoration i guess you call it but if anything hit my rear tail lights trust me the guards would save them. So decoration and "just in case" never know when a neighbor kid will hit a baseball into my tail lights hehe. I know a football has hit my truck a few times and it hasnt been from the neighbors but from me and my bro.
they look very good...nobody will know...it's some kind of vinyl?.....the only real leather is the tops and sides of the front seats....if you look and feel it close...you can tell the difference...but nobody is going to know.....and yes it looks like the brochure....so you were fooled too!
Like Ryan said, who knows when they really will start building them. It could slow up your order until the Spring? Also, my old truck is a '90 Chevy Stepside. The stepside fenders are fiber glass or the like. The paint has faded much quicker and worse than it did on the metal surfaces. Just something to think about.
If anything hit the tail light guards, they would break first, then your tail lights. So to replace, you would have to buy another set of tail lights and another set of tail light guards. Hmmm...why would you want to do that?

Could have said it was mine and nobody would have known the difference...know what I mean. Even if you were standing in the picture..still would prove nothing as no one knows what you look like. I was on a trip to Irvine CA this past week. National Car Rental had a 2000 Silverado ext-cab LS 4x4 that I could rent, so I did. The truck was built in 12/99, had 21,000 miles. It hopped like crazy in the concrete freeways, and the rear ext-cab window wind noise was very loud. Other than that it was a great running, riding truck.....except for one other thing.
When I would come to a stop I'd press the brake pedal down about 1" before the brakes would engage. I'd press the brake pedal down about another 1/2" by the time I'd stopped moving, and the brake pedal at that point felt very firm. Now while stopped I did not push down any further on the brake pedal. However while stopped it felt like the brake pedal was getting softer, more of a mushy feeling. The truck would start to roll forward, and if I didn't again push down on the brake pedal until it became firm again (almost to the floor, about another 3") the truck would keep rolling forward.
Is this normal? I hope not, my order for a Silverado might get placed next month.
I think a lot has to do with the fact that it has had a tough and abused 21K miles being a rental unit. Something similar to the people appearing last night on Jerry Springer....
