i bought my truck from a dealer in kentucky (best deal by about $1000 compared to dealers in columbia, sc). told the salesman that if there was anything on the truck that said "Montgomery Chevrolet" that he could go ahead and deduct an additional $500 from the final price: MY advertising fee. he got the message - hence, no stickers, etc...

took it to a local dealer, they "adopted" me with open arms. they even send me letters every few months (to let me know it's time for XYZ service). no problems...service centers generally won't care. they're intelligent enough to realize that their sales guys wouldn't come low enough to make you happy. that won't prevent them from taking your money for service...

I had a topper installed on my truck. The installer took power from my tail light (parking lights) and ran it to my topper's dome light. The dome light only works if the parking or head lights are on. That's dumb. I tried to find a 'hot' wire somewhere, but failed. I even checked my trailer receptacle for a hot terminal. None. I think I would have opted for the battery operated dome light. (2 C or D batteries). At least it would work while I'm camping in it.
The stop light feed is under the truck to the left of the spare tire. Looking up you will see 4 plugs mounted close together. The plug farthest to the left side of the truck (drivers side)is the one your intested in. The individual wire you want is the one closest to the drivers seat. i.e the one closest to the front of the truck, and on the truck's left side. Get one of those squeeze connectors and tap on your brake light wire.
You will also have to ground your lights to the chasis somewhere. I have a sheetmetal screw under the side rail of the box.
When I got my topper I had the installer use 6 3/8 bolts to secure it to the truck. I didn't want C clamps. If you were ever in a wreck, who knows if they would hold. Or they might just get loose, in time. So he drilled 6 3/8 holes in the truck bedrail [drilled holes? ooooooh. lol ] But at least it's there to stay.

dont have a fax but the info you provided will help .thanks,By the way what do you think of marvel mystery oil and their claims of being a oil-gas additive for protection in newer vehicles-trucks.Always looking to protect my engine -fuel system ,too much stuff out there making big claims for protection ,MMO has been around for awhile. I got fairly detailed directions on how to wire the cap light to the cargo light switch on the dash. A fellow helped me out a couple of topics ago. I haven't had the time to try it yet but they were pretty thorough. If you're interested let me know and I can email them to you.

I wonder, short of wiring the topper dome light directly to the battery, if anything would work right. Silverados have a 'all off' time delay on lights ( so your battery doen't run down if you leave something on). So if I did wire it to the cargo light circuit, would the light work in the middle of the night, since you would have to leave the cargo light switch on?

This has to be the most Ulcerating election I have ever seen. That way for both sides of the line. I really and truely hope and pray that George W. Bush pulls off FLorida and wins the Electorial College. Although I agree that the Electorial college needs to be abolished before the next election. But this one needs to stay by the rules, you can't change the rules mid game. This is going to have a larger effect on all of our lives than we can imagine. The Senate and House look like still GOP controlled although Barely. Well have a great day, hopefully it all swings your way.

Has anyone located or seen the acrylic ventshade that glues to the rubber window channel in lieu of sticking to the painted portion of the door for the new body style pickup? Auto Ventshade's "ventvisor deflector" glues to the painted surface of the door.
I know that Weathertech's visor inserts into the window glass track and is held in place with clips.
I would prefer the summit white rather than the smoke or black color.

Yep, the Lexerado is still in the stable. Just can't leave my Son (babbler) here alone, I like to check in and make sure he's OK and there are no outragous claims being made. If Chevy would just build a SS firebreather I'd buy one AND keep the Lexus. Ford has had the Lightning since 1999!! Is the leadership at Chevrolet asleep?

My friend has this message on his Silverado. The dealer has said: "No Problem Found" and "We don't know, we'll have to call the engineers".

Has anybody ever had this message on a 1500 LS (Ext Cab ShortBed) Z71?

What was/could be the problem? It is intermittent, comes on when in 2wd and only resets when the ignition is turned off.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

If the light is intermittent, could the dealer have duplicated it? The diagnostic test is for the dealer to hook up the scan tool and command the light off. If the light returns, they need to replace the transfer case shift control module. Once that is done, they will test the truck to see if the light returns.

I've had this come on a couple of times (99 Z71 SB), but only when starting from cold, and only long enough that it caught my eye - if I wasn't looking at the dash, I would have missed it. My dealer's service department was at a similar loss.

So yes I've had it happen, but no I don't have a why or a fix.

Sorry i havent been around much but my computer at home (almost 3 yrs old but works great) is on the brink. The screen is going slowly but surely. I took it to gateway yesterday and itll cost $700 to fix. Thats crazy. So for the mean time ill have to hook a monitor up to it. Anyone suggest a good gateway or dell laptop thats cheap? Im not paying $2500 again.

My Weathertechs didn't use any clips, just slip them in between the door sheetmetal and weather stripping, then keep the window closed for a few hours.

While there are some hood deflectors which come pre-painted, I am unaware of any ventshades which come this way. You probably can have whatever you end up getting painted at a local shop.

Thanks for the info. I think I will give these a try. I am getting tired of getting wet. It seem as though the roof is sloped to let all the roof water roll in a slightly opened window.

The Service 4WD light is intermittent, but comes on in the first 5-20 minutes of driving. Turning the ignition off/on always resets the light. The light will not reset itself.

Dealer has no clue. Seems to be no error codes set.

Hey is it getting like real cold by anyone. I think my truck isnt happy. I went to pick up my brother from swimming practice and when i got out about a half hr later (25 degrees out coldest its been to date for the truck) i started the truck and it started but it didnt seem like it really wanted to. I mean it didnt chug but it started then seemed lose a little power then it was fine been good since. YOu think its pissed cause its so cold and rainy out? I know i am.

Went the the Power Launch Tour Wed night in St. Louis. They had for us to drive (ALL ALLISON AUTOMATICS): a base silverado reg cab, dually with the Duramax, LT Silverado Ext Cab 4x4 Duramax, Dually, in the new Orange Color, looked nice, there was a Ext Cab Long bed 2500HD Duramax LS (28' approx 5000 lb trailer in tow), and a 2500HD Ext Cab SB LS 4x4 with the 8.1L big block. The Duramax's were all quiet idleing, the noise outside while accelerating was quieter by far than a Cummins or a Navistar, but you could still tell its a Diesel (JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT), on the inside, very quiet idleing, accelerating not bad wish it were quieter in the cab, couldn't get it up to speed to see how quiet it is cruising. Acceleration is excellent with the duramax, many people were squealing the tires with the duramax. The 8.1L was taken away half way through the night, three people after myself, because they were told to not spin the tires and everybody had to "Try the power out", myself I didn't spin the tires, I put it in 4x4 got it going about 5 mph and slowly went to full throttle, MUCH!!! more responsive than my 2000 5.3L, the turning with the 4x4 engaged was terrible with that truck, really makes you wish for autotrack in the HD. The guys with the power launch tour said with the trucks 20+ k loaded they getting 13-14mpg on the Interstate (Duramax/Allison) and that they expect milage unloaded to be 20+ on the interstate. As far as myself I think ordering a early 2002 Duramax is the ticket.

There might be more who wish to comment on the subject, but I generally stay away from them. MMO however did the trick in loosening the stuck piston in my Mercury outboard. Lost head gasket seal didn't know it, sucked water in to cylinder and piston seized in a week of non-use. Pulled head, filled cylinder with MMO and worked crank nut back and forth with 24" breaker bar, tapped on piston crown with plastic "dead blow" hammer...after a couple of weeks piston AND rings freed up. Used about 1 quart of the stuff, but with patience it works for that.

ANY truck in 4-hi is going to bind in 4WD when you turn....Autotrac does as well with sharp turns...just not felt as much...

Blackmax, yeah the 8.1 L and the Duramax were awesome, wish I could do it all over again. But had to do about 9 hours round trip of driving and stay at a friends appartment to do it. Only bad thing was the cold and the mist in the air. Tim yeah I have drove many different 4x4 trucks and yes I know that they do that, just pointing out that autotrack is nice, I use it alot with really wet roads or in the winter. With that 5.3L it is really hard to not spin them both with less than Ideal traction in 2wd. Can't spin them in autotrack and it turns great. Just one of the things I really wish the HD had. The crew cab was nice, but I am sure now I'll stick with the Ext Cab, (they should have made a bigger Crew cab, nice but another 4" would have made it easier to get into and loads more comfy, ((IE Taurus Leg room to Towncar leg room)) and the fact the back seat folds alot better in the ext cab for storage). Something deep down inside me longs for the 8.1L with Borla Exaust, Maybee a Paxton or a Eaton hehe, but in stock for I would average 10mpg probable, and couldn't afford the speeding tickets. So for economy and sanity sake the incredible Duramax will have to do in 002.

Dealer called and my 2001 2500HD/Ext./4x4/6.0/ 4.10 just arrived. Kicker is I may not be able to pick it up until Monday because I'm booked for tonight, and have to go watch my Aggies beat the #1 team in the nation Saturday in C.S.!!! Whoop!!
Ordered Sept. 28. GM accepted order Sept. 29. Built Oct. 26. Arrived Nov. 9. Six weaks exactly from the day I ordered! Very cool!

Just got back from the Chevy Site. The standard 2500 has dropped some models. No Reg Cab 4wd (the model I bought in 2000). I don't know what else was dropped, but that model is gone. If you want a reg cab you have to get a 2wd or a 2500HD.

Sure makes me glad I ordered my truck last year!

I still believe Chevy will drop the standard 2500 soon and only have the HD (like Ford and the SD).

I was just curious roger. I know they couldnt put my order in till the next tues (ordered on a saturday) because they didnt have a silverado allocation but they got one that tuesday. It was accepted the following tuesday. Got a tpw that wk too. It was built a wk early. Threw all my plans off. But it paid off.

Below freezing here in Puget Sound country this morning, but no problems starting my 2500.

However, it took a LONG time to defrost the windows, EXCEPT the rear (I have the electric defroster), even with the fan at 5; there just didn't seem to be enough air coming out the front vents. Then, about halfway in to work, the light dawned, I reached back and closed the vents on the BACK of the center console (it's an LT extended cab), and viola, lots of air coming out those front vents!

My truck was fine this morning. Its in the upper 20's or well it was now its about 40-50. I used the front defoggers on the #1 setting and it took about 3-5 min to totally clear the truck. The 1500 must have a better HVAC system (that one is for tim).

Chalk that another reason to get a 1500. Still not regretting gettign the rear defogger yet. Only 1 time have i needed it that was labor day weekend and we wont get into that.
