I love to smell that nitro when the fumes get to the stands (Pomona, used to go to OCIR). The sound is great if you wear earplugs and ear muffs over those. The noise that is irritating is the 500 car alarms that go off after every TF or FC run. Must be the ground shaking.
My brakes squeak when I drive in a very dusty place or a gravel road. A day or two later they are OK.
Ryan,
Hey, I'm jealous!! Our bus tour of Indy only went 25mph max. I would have liked to have taken my truck around the track. The museum was impressive.
Did you ever drive up to Detroit and visit the Henry Ford Museum? No, it is not all cars, but it is all interesting. The only place I've ever seen an engine with a 3 foot bore and a 6 foot stroke. That's 73,000 ci for one cylinder.
Nope never been to the ford mueseum. The indy mueseum was real nice. Havent been there since the summer before my 9th grade yr. I was 14 then so 7 yrs ago. Wow time flys. I lived in indy for three wks that summer at a baseball camp. Had alot of fun down there.
Anyones antenna coming loose alot??? Maybe i should stopp hitting the tree by my driveway eh???
Oh yea the tail light guards have worked. Something dont know what hit it i can see a mark missed the light and hit the guard. Probably one of the neighbors balls.
After a hard night of drinking, I was sleeping on a chair in the pit of a friend's Nitro funny car. After the motor was back together, they fire it up. Well, no one told me as I was sleeping. Damn thing is the best alarm clock I've ever had...only thing, the eyes burn from the nitro. Not very pleasant when waking up. That year he made it to the finals only to lose to John Force...
Years ago when I was a kid (OK, when I was in my **first** childhood), my family lived in Texas for a couple of years. I remember my mom used to go to a place which had a drive-through where she would pick up milk for us kids and a six-pack of beer for my dad. If it was my dad picking up the milk and beer, he'd just grab a can from the six-pack and drink it on the way home.
In Texas, it's easy to tell when you're approaching the line between a "wet" county and a "dry" county, because that's where most of the liquor stores are!
Well, just called Firestone again, and turns out they were incorrect when they told me I'd get a reimbursement for the Steeltex. Just a warning to others out there considering the switch. I am going to call again tomorrow and see if a different person says a different thing again. They said the Steeltex are under investigation, so things might change later, but for now, no trade-ins on Steeltex. Oh well, I'm not giving up on it, but it does suck. But, I wanted the Michelin's anyway, so it's only money! FYI.
Did they take your tires from you or not? They must take the tires from you if they are planning to give you a refund. I can't beleive that they would give you the money, and let you keep the tires???
the tires, and filled out their half of the paper work. I was just calling to double check I had all the paper work I needed, as there was no place for the mileage or wear on the tires. I thought that was odd, and wanted to make sure I was going to get the full $500. Oh well, I'll get my money later if they get put on the advisory. If not, I'm out some cash, but I have good safe tires that will last a lot longer than the Tombstones anyway. I'm not going to sweat $500 on a $30K truck.
so they took your tires, won't give you a credit, and it doesn't bother you.....I would think that since they aren't giving you a refund that they would at least deliver the old tires to your house.
erikf2
Do you know how many counties there are in Texas? Just wondering. Was looking forward to visiting Six Flags in Dallas. pulled in to the lot Monday morning, found best parking, then noticed park was closed....boy was I pissed....LOL!! Reminded me of that Chevy Chase movie.
I finally got my new Rado. Actually it's a left over 2k model, with a lot of options that I didn't want. One of them is a trailering package. That along with the Z71 option, makes for a very stiff ride. It's a short box reg cab, so the back end sticks up too much as compared to the front. Is raising the front an inch or so feasible? Would I have to go to the aftermarket to do it? It's a very nice truck, and now I know why you guys are so proud!! It's a black and pewter LS, and I have not been able to drive straight home from work yet!!
My dad put a K&N in his '90 350. I didn't notice much of a difference. I haven't put one in my 5.3, nor has he put one on his 454. I've been thinking about puting an airaid on. They are expensive, but last forever. Nick
Ok my dad is taking his blazer in tomorrow for oil change (free coupon). There is a slight leak we have been noticing in the garage from the front differential. It is a little over a yr old. Should the fluids be changed?
4x4 (autotrac),rear,front??????? Just wondering.
Also on my silverado when does the 4 wheel fluid need replacing. Rear fluid??? Just curious with winter coming up
In the manual, GM recomends changing the rear differential fluid in the silverado's @ 3000mi, and then something like 20,000mi after that (w/ G80). On the front, I would guesstimate that changing the fluid once every 1 or 2 years would be fine depending on how much it's used. I got my sierra back in may and have about 3300mi. I'll probably due the front differential early next year, and need do the rear soon. Nick
Na, I wouldn't consider it really bad, but it's time to change it. I'm not sure how much it cost. I used to watch my dad do it all the time. If your going to have the dealer do it, make sure they take the rear cover off. There is a magnet on it that probably has a lot of metal shavings on it. It would be nice to have them out. It's nothing i would sweat over. I didn't read that it needed to be changed until my dad hit 8000 early this year. Nick
your right. I read my manual and it said the same. sorry for the wrong info bro. I know i read it in my dad's manual. i guess that means that i don't have to get it done just yet. Nice pic Nick
are you sure there isn't a problem with the leaf springs? sure looks like it...truck looks good except you should lose those tacky vinyl Z71 stickers. I think they cheapen the look of the truck.
do not lube zerks as damage could occur to your fingers...LOL!!! Frostbite....LOL!! Actually greasing would cause expansion in the material that contains the grease. At that low temp, it may crack with loss of flexibility....hey, what are they teaching you guys in college??? you should have learned that one by now....
Yea i know the expansion and contraction crap. It was odd when i read it. It was 11pm kinda late to be thinking.
Also my rear leafs appear to be fine. How do you know when they are bad? Ive been told look and there should be a gap at each end. (where they meet and its a circular shape. Wish i could take a pic i cant describe it to well.) Well on mine the gap is still there. That pic is bad. The slant of the driveway makes the truck sit perfectly even i know it bugs the heck out of me. If i back it in the rear sits real high. If i park it in the street it looks normal. If i get home before dark tonight ill take some pics for you.
I'm not giving up on getting the refund. I will keep calling the "Customer Satisfaction" people, and go up the chain of command and try to get the money, but if I end up having to wait until they put them on their list, then that is what I have to do. I did switch to Michelin because it sounded like a hell of a deal with the Firestone refund, but I would have switched anyways. I won't lay down for them, but I'm not going to get all worked up about it either, and let it spoil my euphoria over the new ride!
As for ride differences, I couldn't tell you? The Stones came off with a whopping 41 miles on them, and they certainly weren't aired up enough anyway. With 50/40 front/rear, the C's ride well enough. I will say the HD does seem to ride a little stiffer than the regular 2500's I've driven, but it isn't offensive. I like it. My wife wanted to know why it was so jerky/bumpy, when she first rode in it, but what the hell does she know! The only bad effect is my keys rattle around and hit the shifter and make too much racket. I need to see if I can shorten the chain up to keep it from making so much noise. Have a great weekend everyone.
re: #1272 ryan - can't help on the blazer...wife's jimmy is 2wd. on the rado...the tech at the chevy dealer where i get my alignment done recommended swapping the rear diff fluid within the first 10k miles. he recommended mobil 1 75w90 (i think? - check your manual) and that, if you don't do much serious towing or hauling that it will last up to 100k if you want to let it go that long. he changes his ('98 z71) every 50k. also said if you do any significant towing or hauling, consider changing up to every 25k. it's easier to do than your engine oil, i did mine at 7500 i think. pull the drain plug, allow it to drain. replace the drain plug. remove fill/check plug. fill. replace fill/check plug. you don't even have to put it up in the air. nick's idea of letting the dealer do it the first time (to clean the magnet) isn't a bad idea either though. although with your dad being a mechanic, i'm sure he's taken a diff cover off before and could prob'ly help you with that... the mobil 1 gear oil runs about $10-$12 a quart (give or take) and i think i got mine at advance auto.
re: #1270 crossfire - i've heard one way to raise the front is to tweak the torsion bars. i don't know how to or how hard it is...but i've heard it's the easiest way to "level out". also...if you haven't already considered it, the bilstein hd shocks made for the new rados are great, not too expensive and a reletively easy install. others have had success with the edelbrock's. i have the bilsteins and feel they improved my ride dramatically.
I am thinking maybe next wk ill go get it changed. If it lasts 100K mls shoot ill just have them do it.
Ill find out about the blazer later on today. The guy tried to bs my dad on the phone yesterday and tell him it will leak some oil. Boy he didnt know he was talking to a mechanic.
For some reason though my dad wont work on the new blazer. To compact in the engine compartment or something. He always works (changes oil brakes) on his. I guess when you get free oil changes you take it in. And plus he isnt getting any younger.
bama got me pretty fired up the other day when he stated that i "make stuff up" as i go. i realize now that his intent was solely to get me fired up and off topic. he can't show me where i intentionally lied or deceived people and now he wants to claim that i admitted to making stuff up. i give a rip what that guy thinks of me. when he puts together a coherent argument i may re-engage with him. until then, i'm leaving him alone. he's the kind of guy that, if consumer reports said the sky was green and the grass was blue he'd go around telling everyone it was so. period, end of sentence. i've got better things to do with my time than worry about him.
Well, looks like I won't have to order. I found 'the Truck' I was going to order with all the options I wanted, and none I didn't (like those cheesy fender flares ;-) ). It's even pre-Onstar and a 2001! I have it on hold. They are going to sell it to me for invoice, 1.9% GMAC, and nothing down. Pick it up tomorrow. I'm only 37, so I told them I was buying it for my father for Christmas, since it's the Carmine I wanted ;-)
I've been watching this site since before your carmine crack...
Do you let your dog ride inside your truck? How does he/she do getting in? I have a 9 mo german shepherd who's not a jumper, who will probably ride behind the front seats whenever it's raining.
Hes rode in my truck 2 times. I dont like to take him in it because he leaves me to much dogg hair. He jumps right in. When we are outside he likes to lay in the back of my dads S-10 (cap makes for a dogg house) its a 2wd and he gets a running start and goes right in.
WHen he rode in my truck i had the seat up. He could barely see out the front window which bothered him but he could see out the side. He was happy. In my dads blazer he rides on the back seat or on the console between the 2 bucket seats hehe.
Oh yea the first time he got in my truck he was scared because of the nerf bars sticking out i think he kept looking at em funny.
Is it me, or does your two tone look like Carmine/Gold? I didn't think the gold was an option, or did you have that done special?
I was looking at your wish list, and have one of my own going already. With no money down, I'll be able to get some of the following sooner, than later: Line-X UTR, CD Changer, Bazooka subwoofer, speaker upgrade(?), chevy splash guards, rubber floor mats, clear front end protection (X-Pel?), and maybe one of those really nice sunroofs.
I haven't had the money in the past to dress out vehicle they way I want it, but this time... well you only live once...
No its just a crappy camera. It's carmine/pewter. It's a '00 not a '01, I think the combo. is still available?
I want the molded splash guards but It says on the Chevy web page that you cannot use them if you have the flares.
I know what you mean.... This is the most expensive vehicle I've ever owned and I'm decking it out. Like you said "you only live once" Lets just hope the economy stays like this (not betting on it, but I hope)
If you want me to post a pic of your truck send it to me and I'll put it on the page.
Thakns Ryan, they look good. Looks like they fit great. Were they easy to install? I know its not hard to intall but was it hard getting the fit so perfect?
You use 2 existing fender flare holes (tabs that pop out easily) and 1 drilled hole to attach each mudflap. I looked for about 3 months before i got the truck for flaps that would fit my truck w/flares. These were the only ones i found. They work great too. They pretty much keep my nerf bar by the front wheel nick free and the rear end chip free.
Let me know if you need anymore information on them
Yeah I think it looks really good, I think they are Kelly 285's don't hold me to that. I posted a note to him on the diesel page asking him about the tires and the milage. That color looks really good. But I want a GMC and there was a dually that wasn't being exhibited at the power tour GMC that was red and looked not nearly as good, a different shade. So I guess I will have to go with POLO green and get lots of chrome. And bigger tires of course in 2002. If I find out I will let you know.

PS im leaving school right now to go deer hunt and for the week off for thanksgiving. Whohoo!!!

Anybody seen those little antennas roof mounted over the drivers head on the new ones? On-star or cellular option?

j/k the Z71 pkg makes you seem a little younger. The fender flares would have taken about 5 yrs off your age.
