Yes, I do believe the Edge has 4-wheel disc brakes.
I would have considered the Edge, but it doesn't have 3rd row seating--it might be a future option. It is also smaller than the Mazda CX-9 (length wise the Edge is about 14" shorter), and thus smaller than the Acadia, so 3rd row seats might be a bit cramped once it does have it.
I guess the Edge is closer to the Mazda CX-7 in terms of size. Too bad they don't have 3rd row seats...would have been interesting to see how roomy they would actually be.
Confused why the 'Ford Edge' keeps coming up on this board. Did we not clear this up 25 to 40 messages ago that this verhicle to be compared to the Highlander/Murano/Equinox/and other 5 seater crossovers with minor cargo area. Even the Pilot which is a bigger crossover than this vehicle and it can only put 8 year olds in it's 3rd row...so can we finally put the "Edge" to rest.
The CX9 looks to be a feesible comparison and the Hyundai 'Mesa' another larger crossover could be a legitamate/ viable crossover SUV that fits in the new GM crossover SUV category. Not much out there on the 'Mesa', but would like to see a photo, if anyone has located one. I'm pretty much sold on the 'Outlook' at this point, but will test drive and keep an open mind.
I brought it up again because it IS a vehicle that I am considering along with the Acadia. Third row or no third row. But, the reason I brought it up was reference to a link that was provided that when I compared the two vehicles, it provided inaccurate information. That's all. And I'm sorry if my connection between these two vehicles doesn't work for you but I am trying to obtain the latest and accurate information on both vehicles which is why i pointed out the link's error when in the comparison it said that one vehicle did not come with 4 wheel discs and was not an option. I think people are entitled to the correct information and I'm sure I'm not the only person considering both of these new cars.
And if you want to laugh, go look at the Edge forum and see the guy complaining that the Edge isn't as nice as a Rendezvous and doesn't even have third row seating! My response to him was if wanted a GM vehicle with three row seating he should look the Acadia! Wait a minute, that wasn't you was it?
You can trust it or not trust it, I don't really care. The only question I was responding to was Chris looking for additional information on the Acadia. I do know that this company does move several thousand units per year, and have always been reputable in the past. If you want to buy and Edge, don't look at an Acadia - apples and oranges!!!!!!!!!!!
The Hyundai vehicle that was originally thought to be called the Mesa has officially been named the "Veracruz". There seems to be even less information available on it than there is on the Mazda CX-9, which leads me to believe its launch date will be later than the Mazda and GM crossovers. There is an active Edmunds forum under the name "2007 Hyundai Veracruz". From what little I've learned about it, it does appear it will be targeted at the same buyers who would be looking at the Acadia, Outlook, CX-9, Pilot, etc.
I'm not saying anything negative about you. I merely reported the inaccuracy that that company (Bridgeport)provided. I wasn't saying they weren't reputable. And I don't yet know what I want to buy but it will be either the Edge or the Acadia. So apples to apples for me!!!!!!!!!
And if someone can't see any link between these two vehicles, their problem not mine. But as I am researching, shopping and comparing the two as are other people, there is bound to be cross talk. Deal with it. It's not just about a third row.
I did appreciate the link you provided though and if it's updated would be a good comparison tool for me.
Loach...thanx for the info on the Hyundai Veracruz...I'll put a little time in and see if I can turn anything up on it. As of a day or so ago, they still had the Mesa on the future car 'list' on Edmonds. Looks like that these new GMs the CX9 and this Veracruz are the only crossovers that potentially met the new medium-large to large crossovers with 'both' 3rd row seating and large cargo bays...the cargo bay being my priority and comfortable 3rd row seating for others.
Not trying to gang up... but looking at your 'apples for apples'(that your looking at an Edge or Acadia)would be equivelent to... you are trying to decide between an explorer or a Tahoe.?..So, maybe a small apple for a large apple would be more appropriate if not apples to oranges. What ever...lets non of us take any of this too darn serious. If you are really high on the Edge...the Highlander is coming out with a totally new design and might be more of interest to you...Best of luck in your search!
I have been trying to find out pricing on the new Outlook and have been unsuccessful until today. I work for a GM supplier and we get a discount on GM products. I contacted our channels to try to determine the discount on the new model. The local Saturn dealer in Springfield, PA got back to me with the following:
"We made a phone call to Saturn, the pricing on the vehicle will not be available until Oct. What we did find out was, it will start at approx. $28500.00 and fully loaded with everything about $37500.00"
Take it for what it is worth, but I think it is both truthful and likely to be correct.
Not a bad starting price if correct. Hopefully the Outlook and Enclave will be in the same ballpark, although I do expect the Enclave to carry a slight premium since it will probably come with more options standard (hopefully they won't price it like a Lexus or Acura, i.e. starting near $40k, since I won't even go near it at that price).
The Buick should scrape the middle of an mdx's priceline ( I'd guess 43 grand for a top line model) But that's what GM wants-an RX/GX competitor. Look at the topline Rendezvous's price (adout 40 large). Anyone looking for a bargain crossover should go for the GMC Acadia- which is a great bargain for that size crossover. I go with many others in saying GMC envoy XL has met its demise. But something in me still says that if GM wants a firm competitive edge, they might want to bump the V6's about twenty horses.
Since you mentioned Chevy Equinox- I will be too mad if GM gives Chevy a lambda. though i don't completely believe motortrend, The picture they showed in june was ugly and may negatively affect outlook sales. The only Lambda edition GM should allow is for Saab 9X-7 replacement- which Saab should spend as much time on as buick has on the enclave. I say Chevy should take the new 'nox based suzuki XL7, give it sporty and rugged chevy styling ( not just a badge swap!) and a redone interior and call it a day. but you know GM (hopefully of old) Buick Terreza/Chevy Uplander, etc.
I was talking to somebody and told that the fully loaded price for a Outlook should be around $37,500. So if that is the case what do you think the fully loaded price of a Acadia will be?
In my mind the Acadia and Outlook are for those who want most of the functionality of a minivan without the image problem associated with it. The Acadia/Outlook's dimensions are very close to those of a Sienna. I'd expect the pricing to be similar, too. Low 40s for a fully loaded Acadia, I'd think.
It will be interesting to see what the difference in pricing will be between the Outlook and the Acadia, given that Saturn's prices are non-negotiable. I have $3k of GM Card earnings to use, so I will almost certainly be leaning toward the Acadia unless the Outlook is much cheaper.
Does this mean we'll see an Outlook on the lot in October? Or at least by the end of the year? I'm tired of the speculation, I just want to see one in person!!
Read in Edmonds that Outlook should begin in the mid 20s... was encouraging!...if the mpg was there; "GM was going to finally bring some value to the table.?." and now it seems more like possibly the high 20s(@ $28,500?)...hopfully this thing doesn't grow to the low 30s for a base Outlook by the time they actually show up... or will be forced to look for other economical solutions to my driving needs.
That's the one thing that irks me with Saturn: no negotiation. Yet, many dealers added a premium on the Sky roadster. So they won't negotiate down, but they'll happily add market premiums. Ridiculous.
In any case, you might be able to get a better price with the Acadia since you can negotiate, even though the Acadia might be a tad more expensive than the Outlook (I have no clue if this will be the case or not).
The Acadia has some standard and optional features that the Outlook does not have, so it is clear that GM is positioning the Acadia at a higher price point than the Outlook.
Most likely, even if the the Acadia and Outlook base units were to come out with identical standard/features, the Acadia could possibly fetch another grand or two just for the emblem alone.?.they can over Chevy -
I'm with dthompson; it is frustrating looking at these nice photos of the Outlook and Acadia... with 7/8 seaters and very nice(of ease)cargo utility(my priority)...plus potential non-guzzel mpg.?. and modest pricing for base units with good standard features.?...and if so,I'm sure I'll be happy with that(crossover)test drive. I'm sold if this scenario is reality.
However, If we get the "Consumer Guide's" test results that this model consumes 16/20 mpg city/highway(which is very possible)and the base price is at 30k, then I'm done with getting reeled in with potential value that really isn't there, just because it looks nice and has cargo utility. This is GMs last shot with me
Though, If I could justify buying the Enclave, then I probably wouldn't be too concerned about the mpg, except from an environmental perspective.
I'm not sure this is the case anymore, but from what i heard, Acadia is a step under in class than outlook (like Outlook to MDX as Acadia to Pilot) If this is true, GMC is a real steal. And about gas mileage- I don't think 16 and 20 are so bad for this size truck. Pilot gets 17 and 22, envoy XL 16 and 21
The Buick Enclave is the critter GM is matching up against the MDX(and like Japanese/Euro types)... that is really good news if you've got the new GMC crossover to be less than the Outlook...but not holding my breath, only crossing the fingers...
As far as the 16/20 mpg...it has been stated on this forum that the new 2007 Tahoes are "expected" to do at least that well...so a 'crossover' from the same mfger should be able to out perform the 'truck' cousin or GM continues not to progress...its very survival is dependent on progressing; mpg is one of the main factors she has to be dealing with.
I cetainly hope your 19/20mpg city is at least very close, but I think.?. we've been down this road before and settled on a more realistic possibility of something like 18/23, but it could have been someone else. Lets keep our eyes pealed for that unbiased road test mpg rating...should see something fairly soon.
Yeah, it was me. I guess my "city" mileage that I gave is really my kind of driving. What is city driving? Sitting in traffic? stopping once every mile for a light? No highway? For me it is rarely stop and go since I do not get inot rush hour traffic much. Mostly drive a mile and stop. Sometiimes a little highway to go to the zoo 6 miles away.
I'm guessing you in your 30s with the zoo trips(unless you're a grand parent)and are driving this docle.?..just wait until you are my age...you will really be able save this planet single handedly...I'm light on the pedal too. In my mid 30s decided it was crazy to rush around.
But a realistic 20 mpg mixed driving will work for me with these oversized mid-sized dudes.
all I can say is your name fits all the information in your many posts. Get someone to teach you how to use your computer and maybe you can cut down on all the empty posts. :shades:
Nope, a very young 47 with my own 5 and 7 year olds. No I do not drive docile at all. Do not mash it at every light but I do not feather the pedal either. Pretty much you follow someone all the time in the city so you do not have much choice.
What are you doing to get the multiple posts? I know if I use the back arrow in the IE to go back to the message instead of using edit you can get multiple poats.
Thanx for your assistance in the 5-6 multiple posts I've errored, but not exactly sure what it is I did when it does occur... as I've reiterated in previous posts...that I'm ADD(my whole life)and it never really totally disappears with age. Didn't even realize I had this until I started teaching special education 9 years ago.
Don't want to go any further on this... as not a forum for this sort of subject...but on New GM crossovers and like comparables. I'll leave it with you guys to carry on the input for a while until the 'intolerant one' chills out.
Looks like the Enclave ordering guide isn't up yet.
The "Print book" button will load up a handy PDF file if you don't feel like clicking on all the links on the left of the page. Although you have to click on the link to the left to actually see the colors offered under Ordering Info (Carbon Metallic looks interesting).
No prices yet, though. Nice to see what options will be offered on all the trim levels, especially the exterior/interior colors.
does anyone know when acadia hits dealers? Im hoping by mid october. And looking at boby cladding on Acadia (absent on outlook) I'm pretty sure outlook is a step up from Acadia. But I still like Acadia better. I hope after market parts aren' too far behind'cause I wanna replace that big GMC grille with a billet one!
Well from the speca I've seen they will all be about 200 in. long. But I bet they'll handle almost like MDX's. And It's time for an equinox update. No more sheap interior, and you can bet it'll get new 3.6l V^ in new XL7
Sadly probably not. I don't think they even set a date yet only a estimate. I think the earliest it will come out is the end of the year November/December. Probably more likely the beginning of next year.
It was my understanding that Saturn dropped no-haggle pricing ages ago because it simply didn't work. But, I have never been to a Saturn dealer in my life. I'm just relaying what I heard or read some time ago.
